After reading alot of post, and still waiting on my Tab to arrive, I have a question. I wish to replace my X with a new Tab. Verizon has told me that I can give my current X phone number to my Tab.
Can I then forward my Tab number to GV, then forward to Skpye and anwser it on my tab?
Then put my tab # as my outgoing Skype number and make outgoing calls?
Am I missing anything?
Yes and no.
Yes because it should work, it's what I've been (trying) to do. No because I think the latest app update messed the app up, I haven't rec all my calls.
Pretty sure its an app problem, I've rec all calls on my PC and iphone thru skype, but I'm still checking my settings to see if the problem is there, but I doubt it.
I've got it setup by adding my skype online number as a GV fwd number, and to make calls you have to do it thru skype, as a stock tab, you cant dial from contacts, maps, etc.
"to make calls you have to do it thru skype, as a stock tab, you cant dial from contacts, maps, etc."
Good point didn't think about that. I will settle for that if I can make calls.
Yeah it's not really bad, same as using it on a pc, I'm sure theres a way to change it, just havent cared enough to look. On my captivate I can call thru skype from contacts, but the tab needs the dialer support. Let me know if you are able to rec all your calls.

I have a question regarding google voice (I know, you wouldn't be able to tell by the title right?)
Anyway, somewhere I saw that when you recieve a call from Google Voice, a little white box comes down letting you know you're getting a call from google voice. I don't see that. In fact, I have two options, either I see it coming in as my google voice number (which doesn't let me see who is calling), or I have the number come in straight (which means I can't tell if it is google voice or regular number).
What I mainly use it for is Google Voice is my business number, while my personal number is well.. my personal number. Anyone have any pointers?
~Navik
go to google.com/voice
settings>calls
if you want to know that it's from google voice that the number is calling, set it to caller id (in) > display my google voice number. but, you won't know who it is that's calling, only that they're calling from gv
then after you do the above turn on the caller presentation in the options where you have to press the 1 to answer the call
I guess what I'd like isn't possible as of now. There should be a way for the phone to tell if a call is coming via google voice (since it is coming through the data) and distinguish it as such. I'll keep playing around with it for now I guess.

this is a fact
what i meant with the caller presentation is it will make the person speak their name and when you pick up the phone you will hear "Call from..."persons name" press 1 to answer the call, " and then it gives you some options such as sending to voice mail and listening in on the call while they leave you a voice mail
Would it be possible to forward text messages to the gtab from my phone. Also would like to respond with my grab. Not sure how this would be done but it would be cool. Could be done through Bluetooth or just a good internet connection.

You load the Google voice app from the market. You need to setup a Google voice account also. You enter the phone numbers you want to associate with it. It will also give you a Google phone number. Then you setup Google voice on your device and when it asks for the phone number use one that is associated with your google voice account. People use the google voice phone number to send you texts. And when you send them they show on peoples devices as coming from your Google number. I just had my daughters add my Google number to my contact info in there phones. The last part in the setup about voicemail you can just skip. Only going to send texts from your tablet..
It appears as a big inbox. You get notifications in the top bar when someone sends you something. You can also reply from Gmail. I have an SMS folder I setup in Gmail that I can reply from also.
Sorry to revive an old thread but is there any way to forward incoming sms messages from your cell number (not GV number) to your GV account so you can read them on the Gtab? I don't want all my contacts to have to change the number they send texts to for me. I tried to set it up but none of the sms messages were forwarded to my GV account. I think they are probably in an infinite loop in cyberspace!

I saw that last week but also saw my carrier will charge an ETF if I port my number over to GV. I'm not going to pay $200 just to read my text messages on my Gtab. It was just more of a convenience question as the screen is larger.
What I did and it worked for a couple of hours was create another GMail Account and downloaded an app from the market that forwarded my SMS messages to the Gmail account. It worked until Android killed it. I restarted the app and then I didn't receive any more text messages on my phone or in the Gmail account. I uninstalled the app, restarted the phone, and about 30 SMS messages all came through at once.
In theory this works if you can find a decent SMS forwarding app that can run in the background without being zapped and doesn't screw up your messaging app. I only tried one but may try others tomorrow.
may want to look for "sms forwarder" in the android market. not sure if that does what you want but it sounds like it does.

Yeah, that's the exact one I used and it was hit or miss. I haven't tried any of the paid apps to see if I get better results.
Toktumi has finally released their Line2 app for android. I've been using it for a couple of months with my iPod touch 4G and love it. I tried it with the G tablet and it fully works. You pay a monthly fee and you get a phone number with unlimited calls and text in the US and Canada I think. Yes you can make and recieve calls and texts using your tablet! Go check it out they offer a 30 day free trial.
http://line2.com/download_android.html
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 using Tapatalk
Does not show up on Market. Where else can we find the .apk?
Thanks
I think that it's "tOktumi" (http://toktumi.com/)?
Jim
I'm going to check this out
Many of us would like to check it out, but is it showing up in Market for anyone? If so, can someone post it somewhere (free apk)
Thanks
what is the diff between this and google voice?
Google voice lets you send and receive text using your tablet. However, when somebody calls your Google voice number the call gets automatically redirected to the phone number(s) you linked GV to. Line2 gives you a unique telephone number so when somebody texts or calls you, your tablet gets the actual call. Line2 also lets you forward calls to any number but you have to manually set it up in the app preferences.
PM me if you have any other questions.

Hi,
I just installed sipdroid, and it created a pbxes.org acct, and I can call out, but called party can hear me, but I can't hear them. Any ideas how to fix this?
Also on the sipdroid website, it has screenshots, showing a dialpad, but I only get 2 text boxes, for # to call, and 'called address'?
Pressing on the icon on upper right, I get an FC.

Answering my 1st question, after establishing a call, I press menu, then 'speakers', and then I can hear.
Also tried w Bluetooth headset, and that worked.
Still no keypad though.

Fyi, I just figured out how to get incoming call working also. What I had to do was go to Google.com/voice, login, and under settings>>phones check the Google chat checkbox. After that incoming calls to my Google voice # come to sipdroid on my gtab. So now I can do both incoming and outgoing calls with sipdroid!

That seems like a separate problem (BT headset connecting), so you might be better off posting a question about that separately, probably in the General forum. I think I've seen some threads about BT connecting there, so you may want to search there 1st. I'm on stock TNT still, but maybe it may depend on which firmware you have also.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to answer an incoming call on my tab. I have the overcome 2.0.0 rom, and a Tmobile tab.
I have gvoice set up properly, I'm able to call the tab from another phone, it rings through, and when I slide the notification bar down, I see this, the phone icon (which I tapped and nothing happened), mute, headset, and end buttons. I do not see any other button or way to let me answer the incoming call. I am stumped. This is what I see. What am I missing? Is it the rom? Can anyone please help?
Thanks.
Ok, I'm going to try to answer your question but I have a few myself. Are you using google voice via sip account for your calls? If so, maybe someone has an answer for you, as I do not use google talk. Um, so generally in the Tab when someone calls you, u see the call and use the slider to answer.

Yes, google voice via antisip and ipkall. That picture I posted is what I see when a call comes in. That's the notification pulldown. When a call comes, I have to wake the screen and then use the pulldown, but there's no slider or anything to answer the call.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm not using clip at the momment. Have you read the overcome thread to see if anyone else was having problems with voip or their website?
Don't you tap the phone icon (green button)?

Yes I tried that. It doesn't do anything, it doesn't change color or move, it's frozen just the way it looks in that pic. I'm wondering if it's missing in the rom. I can call the phone, and it rings and rings, but I can't physically answer it. I haven't tried via bluetooth headset or something like that yet.
I bet your going to need a different app to make this work.
I use GV on my SGT, and it works fine.
I agree with Starlog. For sip or voip apps, they usually have their own dialer app.
Go to the market and search voip, sip, or antisip.

Ok, I dl'd the apps Gvoice, and Gvoice callback since I think those were the ones needed? When I call through Gvoice callback, the GV calls my Gtab back to connect the call, but I can't pick it up, since I can't figure out why the button won't work. It rings the number I'm calling, but because Gvoice calls the number I'm dialing as well as my gtab and I can't push a button to connect, I'm stuck. Maybe I need a new dialer?
Ok shooting in the dark here, but isnt there in settings > call settings go to internet call settings. check those options in gingerbread under accounts and see if that helps. Again, I do not use sip or voip.

I have the settings set up right. I can get calls coming through, but I have no way to answer them. Maybe bluetooth will work. I'll have to check when I get back home.
I have same problem. Voip callas work, but can not answer incoming call.
2.6.35.7 Overcome-v3.1.0#16
Overcome v2.0.1-HERMES
Must have been the overcome Gold ROM. I flashed CM7 and with the same settings, it all works, and I can make and receive calls. Thanks for all the help!
Now I have updated new Ikaros, but same same. Can not answer internet call?
Does anyone know the solution?!?
I have now upgraded to Jupiter. Now I can reject the call, but not still can answer the call.
I can not write to the overcome-conversation because I have too few messages.
I feel like ever since hangouts was able to handle GV sms I've had issues with making GV calls. I don't want to make voip calls. I want to use the regular cellular net work with my Google voice number. I'd checked that the settings in GV say to only use GV to make calls but people still tell me my other number shows up. It's there a way to resolve this without using voip?
Thanks in advance to anyone who offers advice.
Yes.
Long press on the home screen. Then select widgets. Then scroll until you find "toggle google voice", and drag it to your desktop. Press that and you'll notice the options pop up.
I use this feature quite often when selling tickets via craigslist.
