Hey all,
Anybody using matte screen protectors on their IS? Does it significantly reduce glare when using the phone outdoors?
I want to get one as the one I'm using (came with the Casemate case) is horrible. It gets TONS of fingerprints on it. Wondering if any of you have suggestions as to what would reduce/eliminate glare and fingerprints.
Thanks, all!
Using a matte screen protector from screenprotective.com
It is good, does block glare and the fingerprints are significantly reduced. Though it does reduce the already horrible quality of front camera.

Isnt there a cut out for the front cam?
No there isn't and as I don't video chat or use the front camera, I don't mind that at all.
Also, even if I used the front camera, getting the fingerprints and glare off the screen is a tradeoff as you obviously use the screen much more.

Hi,
I had this problem at once, about no have cut for fropntal camera, when i bought protector for my Milestone.
Now i buyed from ebay. I not receive yet, but i can post my impression when i get if you wait...
Our Incredible S sports a Gorilla glass screen, which in my opinion makes screen protectors obsolete.
Just google gorilla glass, check the videos found on youtube, etc.
Never had a screen protector with my hd2, just sold it without a scratch after using for almost 2 years. Incredible's glass screen is even better, not only scratch, but impact resistant.

I think the OP is more concerned with glare. I just picked up a matted one that for that same reason and it does help considerably with fingerprints. Glare protection helps but nothing is going to help that much in really bright direct sun light... I forget which brand it is, but the cutout for the front facing camera is off. Don't really notice a difference in the picture but I went ahead and snipped a small part of the protector.
Oh, ok I get it.

Just an update for this thread. I decided on the BoxWave ClearTouch Anti-Glare screen protector. It is AWESOME! Glare and fingerprints have both been reduced significantly! I definitely recommend it to everyone!

Does the anti-glare cause 'noise' or skews the pixels of letters? That's one of my worries of getting one. Otherwise I'd have to stick with crystal clear.
Also, does it hinder brightness? That'd kill battery life for me..

So it's a choice between the screenprotective one and the boxwave one? The Screenprotective is US$4.29, comes with two and has free shipping worldwide but is missing the camera cutout. The Boxwave one has a singular option for 12.95 plus shipping and has the cutout. Hm...
How are your screen protectors holding up? Still tight against the screen? Do they make the screen dimmer by a lot? Thanks!

Is this true, there does appear to be some doubt about our phone having gorilla glass. The manufacture states on their web site that our phone has gorilla glass but it is not shown in the HTC spec.
perhaps only the camera lens cover on the back is made from gorilla glass. i've heard this being the case with a few other phones.
fyi, i've just received the boxwave screen protector. it's great. yes, it lowers the brightness a bit because it's a bit grainy but this is the case with all matte protectors (i've tried a few). it's completely reusable so there's no need to buy two.
For now I have only used a screen protector only on resistive touch devices. They decrease the quality of the screen pretty much is my experience especially under sunlight. This is the main advantage of a capacitive screen, it's made of glass and before you scratch it you'll break it. This is my and my friends experience with several brands of smartphones. So my advice to you is to save the money for a case to prevent scratches on the case because it seems that this is pretty likely to got damaged on the surface.
Got the cheapest from ebay, had cut out for front camera. Survived for a year with lots of scratches but it was still readable under direct sunlight, just had to adjust viewing angle. I don't care if there is a drop in brightness as long as it protects my screen and reduces glare.
From the start you will still see some fingerprints, but the longer you will use it less prints you will see

How does it feel and look? Mind sharing pictures; screen on, screen off, under direct lighting or sunlight, please
I noticed this, that many just cover the actual touch portion. I have a clear Zagg from the Nook Color that fits like this on the N7.

I bought the roocase screen protectors (2 HD and 2 Anti-Glare) and I can say that they are decent screen protectors. BUT you have to get it dead on when applying it as their is no room for error and also at the very top of the glass (above the camera) all the way across it is literally .4mm too short and leaves some glass showing. Not too bad as the screen is scratch resistant in the first place

A month and a half later...
I had amcase matte screen on my n7 for a bit. I got it from amazon. The protector itself was well made as it was sturdy and stiff, not a flimsy cheap feeling. It felt really good on the fingertips with the characteristic matte texture and it did not effect sensitivity, brightness, and color reproduction. Also it limited smudges by a huge factor and did a really good job diffusing the sunlight during outdoor use.
But in the end, one of the best things about n7 is its clear high def screen. Since matte screens make the screen appear fuzzy and does distorts contents on screen I decided to oder amcase clear screen. Am much happier but it does get lots of smudges that needs constant cleaning.
Hope it helped.

I may be alone in this, but I think screen protectors are overrated. The biggest danger to the screen is shattering and no screen protector will prevent that. Unless you have diamonds in your pockets I cannot imagine scratching it without breaking it completely. .

That is a good point, which would go more towards purchasing a case rather than a screen protector, though i have a major pet peeve when it comes to my screen having any sort of scratch..let alone cracks..but IMO i do believe having a well made screen protector on or screens do provide a lesser chaw of getting cracks if the device were to drop!

Fit is perfect and goes from corner to corner very well!

I was using invisishield protector for a few a months. Was a pretty decent protector. Didn't tear, anti glare and all that jazz. I ended up taking it off about 4 months ago because the protector itself was scratched and to be honest, since I removed it I've been asking myself why I bought one in the first place. 4 months later, not a single scratch and I think I have enjoyed the phone more without it. Screen is clear, sharp and bright and still without scratches. Often put in my pocket with keys, lighter and other hazardous materials for out phones.

same here, what will be the point in selling a super scratch free 2 years old obsolete phone .....
just like the slightly scratched glass on my iphone 3gs I gave to my kids as an ipod touch
I see I'm in the minority here but screen protectors just don't have the same smoothness as the gorilla glass. Coming from a Samsung Impression it felt like I was running my fingers on silk. And after 4 months of always being on my person I can attest gorilla glass is pretty kick ass. I've dropped the phone onto a gravel street and got very minimal damage. Now mind you the phone bounced, landed and skidded about 10' on the kevlar back so maybe it was just a small miracle it didn't shatter. But the only damage was a small knick in the glass on the top corner away from the touch screen and a small dent in the metal around the face. The kevlar took no damage at all. I've also had in a pocket with loose change and keys with no effect.
Now maybe I'm just lucky but the kevlar backing and silky smooth touch of the gorrilla glass as opposed to having to change screens and getting a bulky case that won't fit the HD dock just aren't comparable.
I go a couple of scratches on my screen, probably from it being dropped in the gym and all that good stuff. I went ahead and got a Zagg screen protector off amazon. It's not too bad for the 10 bucks I spent.

I'm a big fan of DC Mugen screen protectors, usually buying from their ebay store. I bought 10 for my Nexus One, and have only used about 4 in almost 3 years, such good quality they are.
However I noticed that they've shutdown their store, and don't really sell much phone gear any more.

If they make your screen look fuzzy then it sounds like you perhaps tried matt ones? Matt are usually better for anti glare and fingerprints, but they do make the screen look fuzzy all right.
The best type imho would be a crystal clear gloss type that would also help prevent fingerprints and smudges. I believe SGP ones might offer this but at a premium per protector.
I'm still searching on ebay for something decent with delivery to Europe.

No one with a Gorilla Glass phone should use a screen protector. They increase the weight and thickness, interfere with the proximity sensor and don't prevent scratches, as Gorilla Glass doesn't scratch, and therefore are a waste of money, time and resources. In my experience they're also harder to clean and leave adhesive behind.

I really liked RealLook
I had one for my Vibrant, then one for my S2.
Never had to change them out once I properly applied it.
I would stick with cheap ones. Only thing is, I don't know why they don't make any screen protectors that ONLY have a cutout or the earpiece.
I don't need a cutout for the proximity sensor/ light sensor/ FF Camera. That's superfluous. There's no reason to leave those exposed with stupid cutouts. The Screen protector is Transparent.
Anyway, that's my only complaint Plus, with our screen now, there's a hardware Home button. It'll be extremely easy to line up the earpiece cutout and the Home button cutout and the rest of the orientation will pretty much fall into place quite easily.
I want to increase the friction on my galaxy note 2 screen.
What has your experience with glare resistant screen protectors?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
They screw up the Image and overall vision of the display, especially on white background. I guess this is due to their light reflection capabilities
But the one I used was really increasing the friction. However it is much better without the protector.

I actually am using one right now. It helps out a lot with the glare, but it gives the screen an oily look to it on a white screen. I'm moving to an invisible shield today.
I am using a matte / glare resistant screen protector and I personally think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Yes, it will cause some graininess to the screen, so that the whites are not as clear. However, the reduction in fingerprints and glare is drastic. One of the advantages that I like the most is that it allows your fingers to glide quite smoothly across the screen. Unlike glass or clear screen protectors, your fingers won't stick to the screen. People who use matte screen protectors swear by them. Buy a cheap one and try it out. If you give it time, it will grow on you.

Looks interesting. If you order one, let us know how it is.
YES finally!!
Careful, looks like this protector goes all the way to the edge of the screen. The edges of the G2 are curved, which means a screen protector will not attach properly

Of course you realize that is not a real product photo, right?
I am certain the actual shipping product fits properly.
The one you linked is flexible, so I'm not sure it's real glass. The site also links a more expensive tempered glass option which is thicker which I may pick up.
Only thing that could make it better is if it included the black top and bottom sections to cover the Verizon and lg logos.

I've never used a tempered glass screen protector.
How does it feel/look compared to regular screen protectors?
What benefits does tempered have over regular screen protectors?

Its clearer for one, the feel is just like using the phone without a protector at all.

I'm the WORST at putting these dang screen protectors on, no steady hands. Knowing my luck i'll finally get it on and aligned right with no bubbles then to only notice i have fingerprint marks underneath, lol!!!

when i got my gs4 it was the first time i ever decided to use a tempered glass screen protector. i bought a mime glass screen protector. now i cant go back to the screen protectors that are flimsy like zaggs. the glass screen protector feels just like you are touching the screen itself and the sensitivity as far as the phone goes, it thinks you are just touching its own glass so you lose none. only way you can tell you got 1 on will be at the top where the cut out for the ear piece will be. they are more expensive but if you want the best i'd recommend getting a glass screen protector. i'm hoping mime picks up the g2. they have the best customer support.

Ah, that's new from the other day... Not sure I like the rounded corners on it, they don't follow the contour of the actual screen. Sort of ghetto...

You do know glass can bend without breaking right? Fiber cables are glass.
just watched a few reviews on iloome glass screen protectors and they were all positive.. nothing negative.. I just installed the crystal hd by spigen which is pretty darn close to perfect.. these are undetectable other than the edges and not 100 percent the feel of glass.. I'd say 85 percent. I'll definitely purchase the glass one next time mostly for teh glass feel.. they are only around 10-15 dollars more.

Just FYI, I looked around some more and I saw a video of the "flex" model and it does "crack" on impact like a full glass one during the impact test. Obviously none of these splinter into shards to cut you, but the flexible one is definitely made of a material that is brittle enough to crack in the familiar spider web pattern of traditional tempered glass.

Just ordered one for my G2.
I got one similar on my Canon 5D MKIII DSLR and absolutely LOVE it!
Interesting this makes my choice harder

I don't want to wait the two weeks for this to release but I really want one. Those glass protectors give you great protection. You can use almost any flimsy case with it and feel secure.

black trim version
Just ordered one with the black trim which should cover the LG logo quite nicely for a very clean look.
