I've just upgraded my Nook Color to the latest nightly build, encore_70.
Everything worked fine, except that when I connected my Nook to computer, and clicked on the "Select to copy files from/to your computer" from the notification area, nothing happened. No dialogs, no errors.
I wonder what's wrong? I don't see other people complaining about this, but both my nook color and my computer used to work just fine.
I tried to start it from adb am and run adb logcat for it, here's the dump:

Doesn't seem to have any problems. I can see the SD card and internal storage icons on my desktop now, but none of them actually mounted.
Same here (nightly 69). I used to get two icons in the notification area on the NC, when USB was plugged in - a USB symbol and a little bug icon. Now I just get the USB symbol and tapping on it does nothing.
Ditto here...I noticed it last night, not sure what # nightly I had....figured it was a bug and updated to the latest. Same problem....when I click on the notification, for a brief second see the screen when you mount the SD card (the little Android with a USB arm)....but then it just goes back to my homescreen.
I am having the same problem here.

Me too. Was at latest "stable" now tried #73 & #74 Nightlies. Both don't work.

Edit: Went back to last "Stable" (Think it is 5/8) & the function is back.
Guys, this is a known issue with the latest builds of CM7..... It was discovered and noted late last week. If you need USB connectivity, you need to go back to a stable CM7 or download an app from the market (sorry can't remember what it's called).
I installed WiFi Explorer Pro when this issue cropped up. I can think of few reasons to go back to USB connecting to my desktop.

I use the same since I bought my NOOK and it was always the best solution for USB connection.

Seems that under Froyo, when I connect my nexus to a PC using a USB cable to charge it, the SD card gets disabled because the USB mass storage is enabled whether I actually want it turned on or not. This means I have to unlock the phone and explicitly turn off USB mass storage to continue listening to music.
Anyone else seen the problem? If so, please add your comments to this issue:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9116
as Google has closed my previous two bug reports without any testing or thought.
After reading your post, i guess that google is removing your issue since its not the final froyo version you are using, so its either a bug in the test froyo build, or the issue has been fixed in the final froyo that hasnt ota'ed yet
i have actually seen this before in both 2.2 and 2.1
my problem with the auto mount was actually an app i downloaded.
are you using a media player called double twist, because if you are thats the source of your problem.
go to the option menu and turn off auto mount
if not i have no clue, i never had that issue with prior to that app
Yeah, I had the same problem with "double twist" and I have removed it, as I use bTunes instead.

Yep..
Just go to Double Twist settings and check off "Auto USB Drive", and you are done.
Winamp also has auto-mount enabled by default.
This auto-mounting was driving me crazy, I thought that I messed something with my ROM, and it appears that all of this was Winamp's fault. They shouldn't enable such option by default...
Many Thanks.

Thanks. I've used DoubleTwist on my Original Droid a year ago, and never had this problem. I recently downloaded it to my Droid. This must be a "new feature" they recently added. The problem was fixed in 1 minute , after searching XDA for 1 week and finding your post.
Hi,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S a few days back and installed Kies on my Windows Vista PC (32 bit) last night. It asked for an update as soon as I started it for the first time and I did so.
When I tried connecting my phone to the PC USB, it asked for the connection mode and I chose "Samsung Kies", right after this I see the Galaxy S flickering between the MTP application connection screen and the home screen. This goes on indefinitely and I need to pull out the cable to stop this.
This is really frustrating. Is this a problem with my phone (USB port damaged) or some other problem? If anyone else here is facing this and has resolved it please let me know how.
TIA
Put your phone in mass storage mode, connect it to your PC so that you can browse the internal storage and delete any files that have extensions longer than 16 characters. This is the reason why MTP is crashing over and over. If you do a search for it, its a common problem. I think there is even an app that someone wrote to scan your internal SD and automatically remove these files.
Know the name of the app?

Here is the app.
Had the same problem a while back and this fixed it
Thanks for all the help.
Remvoed Dolphin HD (the one that had 16+ chars extensions) and was able to connect with Kies.
Ive had this problem when trying to install KIES last night, going to give this a go as i want to upgrade to some FroYo goodness!
So after moving apps to the media area, the internal storage on my phone, most of the apps dissapeared. Other websites have talked about this, but I see nothing on XDA. Is this fixed by the leaked OTA?

Its the way the OS works...you dismount a drive and anything on that drive will no longer be available (disappear). This occurs when you plug into the PC and the phone unmounts storage so the PC can mount it. Force close your launcher or if possible, restart it (launcher pro gives this option) once the storage is unmounted from the PC and remounted to the phone.

Actually...I'm having the same problem. Even when the media area isn't mounted on the PC (I make sure it's mounted in Android). Doesn't bother me too much, because my apps don't take up much space. The strange part is that not all of the apps in the media area are disappearing, only some.

Same. Things will dissapear even though I never plug it into the computer. Other forums have said this is a common problem, I'll post a link when I'm experienced enough to
Has anyone installed the update, and can give a status report on this issue?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
Haven't experienced this as an issue on any droid phone, but it's probably common because alot of ppl are plugging in their phones to their computers and thus losing access to apps on SD.
As with what tcrews advised, it's the way the Os works - If this persists simply restart your phone/launcher, could be a faulty SD card swapping out the card would help.
We have so much space to use on the apps partition as it is tho so i'd recommend moving any apps that install to sd/media back to the phone to reduce issues.

I appreciate the advice, but I'm afraid no one is getting at the real issue. Since the OP, I moved a dozen apps over to test and half have dissappeared. No computer, no mounting or remounting, just one restart.
Please, this post is about the update. From other forums I believe this is droid 3 specific, and I would like to know if this was fixed. I have a lot of apps.

After some research, I see the issue everyone else is getting at. My problem is not the launcher shortcuts or the app drawer. In settings > applications > manage applications, the app disappears, and all that is left is the namespace, which I assume is just a link to the data on the internal storage. But I need to redownload the app before it works.
Has anyone who flashed the update experienced this, not experienced?

It just started when I was trying to transfer files from my phone to win7.
It does it every time too:
When I connect the phone and the 'USB connection' window pops up, only 2 programs force close, Lookout and Folder Organizer. They do not force close if I connect using PC Mode, Windows Media Sync, or Charge Only. Just with USB Mass Storage, and it is consistent and always only those 2 programs. I took about 5 screenshots of logs while it was happening that I put in a zip if anyone can understand them. I am amazed how much log material there is even for one minute of time...
I am rooted, Eclipse 3. and those 2 programs have been installed for a few days with connections to the pc going without FC's.
Thank you

It's because the apps are running from the scars and when you mount it with windows your phone can't see it anymore
Hi Willis...thank u so much... did you know that from experience or did the logs indicate that?.. I could have sworn those were installed on main phone...odd.. because I have had both those programs for years each time I flash a rom.... I will move them...why didn't all the other apps on the sdcard fc? Just curious. So what lines in the log would indicate a fc. I briefly scanned them but could not fully understand them.

just from experience/problem solving/troubleshooting as well the fact that you mention everything works fine until you mount your sdcard as a mass storage device. Your logs indicated "unknown resources" when launching an app although I do some some dalvik permission errors after that which seems a little off but the resources are unknown/not found because they are removed from your phone when the card is mounted in the computer instead of the phone
Having used Stickmount for OTG, which worked perfectly in KK 4.4, I was pleased to hear native OTG worked in 4.4.2. I uninstalled Stickmount and plugged in external OTG storage and it mounted and I could see the files using Root Explorer under Storage > Usbdisk . Going into Settings > storage also showed the external memory at the bottom of the list. It has an option to 'Unmount shared storage', but if I select that and unplug, I get a permanent notification telling me 'Removed usb storage. usb storage removed. Insert new media', and I cannot clear it. If I don't unmount from the storage settings screen and just unplug, I get the notification 'USB storage unexpectedly removed. Unmount usb storage before removing'. But I can clear that notification. Before I just go back to using Stickmount, can anyone explain the proper way to unmount otgusb storage properly without generating an error?
I get the same thing when going to settings to unmount. I believe what we are doing is the correct way, and I'd consider the permanent notification a Moto X 4.4.2 bug.
Yes, it seems that it must be a bug. Guess I'll go back to Stickmount. It umnounts reliably.
Maybe I am out of place but I get the exact same error on my Moto G on 4.4.2.

Do you have to get the paid version of Stickmount in order to unmount properly? I buy apps all the time, but would find it disappointing if the paid version didn't do this. I tried the free version which seems to mount things OK, but unmount not so much.

I just tested this. I installed the free Stickmount and it mounts fine, files are in sdcard > usbstorage > sda1 (using Root Explorer). Touching the Stickmount shortcut brings up options including unmounting. Unmounting generates a message that the storage has been unmounted, but I do get a notification that the storage was unexpectedly removed. That notification can be cleared. I installed Stickmount Pro and get exactly the same result, even though there are some additional options. I bought the Pro to support the developer.
Thanks... Exactly the same when I try the same steps.

remove the notification
To remove the seemingly permanent notification you can long press on the notification and click on App Info. Then force stop the application that posted the notification (System UI). Doing so doesn't seem to affect anything else. Annoying we have to do that but better than restarting phone or yanking out the drive without unmounting.

Hi, My expierance so far in different to you and to many other Moto X users and its a issue which I think next might take care off...
But here is small trick just long press the notification and force close it this might escape you from rebooting complete phone but with one glitch this might reset your wallpaper to default moto x every time you do that
I updated my stock GSM (T-Mobile) XT1053 to Android 4.4.3 yesterday. USB OTG works well and unmounting using Settings>Storage>USB DISK>Unmount no longer causes notification problems.
