I recently installed miCoach, but I got a problem with the GPS (beside the usual inaccuracy).
After 2-3 minutes that the screen goes off, the GPS just doesn't work anymore > the symbol at the top dissapears and then I have to toggle the GPS icon in the taskbar to regain the GPS.
Is there some kind of energy saving option to keep the damn GPS on when the screen is off?
I'm running JVB stock deodexed.

Hi Everyone...
I finally have my 8925 just how I like it (for now anyways).. I still have the 6.0 AT&T rom (minus the bloatware by resetting when it installed it).. I have all the programs I like, (ie HTC Home, TomTom, etc).. I even got the internet set up for my tiny hole i nthe wall providor... I do not want to flash the entire thign and start over... but my battery meter is missing from the top when it is at the Today Screen... When S2U2 is on, it shows the battery.. My Today screen is slightly longer than I want.. I was going to get rid of the HTCHomeplug, as its only real function for me is to show the battery level.. But in the Start bat, it used to show the battery if I remember right, but does not anymore... .. It shows (right to left) a 3 line thing that shows what programs are running, the time, audio levels, singal strength, Wireless connection type (E or 3G), and then a Triangle icon...
Any advice what to do? I tried that Ariel Battery and it shows the level.. but onyl when I click the file.. when I exit it goes away... I don;t really care what speed of internet is avaialble to me as I usually use WiFi anyways so that icon coudl go away, also the time is shows in the HTC Home so that could go away too if that helps.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
if you exit ariel battery it will go away. if you click hide it will not. after putting a link in the startup folder and restarting it shouldn't even show up in your task manager. hope this helps.
LVMTopBat works for me
I found LvmTopBat here. It shows battery status all the time without taking up valuable screen space. Check it out.
After i used navigon my gps will not turn off itself, so its seems to be searching or connection to gps all the time with no need to do. So, how can i turn off gps myself. when i go in flight mode it dont turn off. the orange light keeps blinking. this costs battery.
Just close the program that was using the navigation; it's not like bluetooth or wifi where you can turn it on and off.
All programms are closed via taskmanager
I wasn't aware that there was a light that indicated the GPS was on.
Is the orange led not just an indicator that the phone is powered on? The gps does not have an indicator LED. If you want the orange LED to turn off, then you need to turn off your phone completely which makes it hard for people to call you.
The gps only goes on when you use a program that uses the gps.
to the person that started this thread, the correct answer, as most of the replies say, is that the gps should come on by itself when the first application requests it. at this point, you can start other gps based applications and the gps will remain on. as you start closing these applications and/or begin to disable their gps options, the gps will go off when the last such application is closed/disabled.
to those that think there is no indicator/status LED to show whether gps is on or off, there IS such an LED indeed. if you look at the LED bank from left to right, the left most light can be:
1. green (phone is on, no missed calls, no new text messages)
2. orange (phone is on, some notifications are pending)
3. red (battery is critically low)
the right most light can be:
1. blue (bluetooth is on)
2. green (wifi is on)
3. orange (gps is on) <------so there IS an LED to show gps status
The phone has WiFi?
Well I tested mine last night with TomTom and Noviplot gsp software and I do not get any led's flashing when the GPS is on. I am using Kaiser Notification but there is no setting in there to change GPS led either. This is an unbranded HTC. Maybe others are different.

i haven't used kaiser notification and i'm not using tomtom or noviplot. i have tested with google maps and gpstest and the right-most LED blinks orange about every 7 seconds. the blinking stops if i disable "Use GPS" in google maps, for example.
maybe kaiser notifications messes up the LED mapping thus preventing the GPS light from coming on?
maybe tomtom and noviplot access the GPS differently?
you might want to look into that if it bothers you but its all good and blinking as expected here!
edit: just to clarify further, my kaiser is also an unbranded factory unlocked HTC TYTN 2.
OK! GPS is working fine for me. Just that it takes forever to lock when there's no active data connection. Otherwise is a beauty. Now my problem is one hooked to sats the icon stop blinking which is normal but then it wouldn't disappear after I've switched off GPS. I mean to say that the icon stays there even after GPS has been switched off. Also when this happens it doesn't speak to satellites nor attempts to see them in lbstestmode. I have to restart my phone again for the icon to disappear and the phone to start talking to the satellites.
BUMP to the top!
I'm having trouble with the GPS on my ZR. Basicly it seems that it won't startup when I startup an App like Google Maps, Waze or Foursquare. GPS function is on, but it won't activate, no GPS icon shows in the top left corner. Nor does it find satellites when I check that through an app like GPS Status. When I turn off GPS by using the widget, and turn it back on, most of the time the GPS icon will appear in the upper left corner and I will get a lock on. Sadly this won't last, the icon dissappears and so does the GPS lock.
I tried this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197842
But it does not work. From the start, the app shows that my phone wont even find the satellites, in stead of just not getting a fix with them.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I am om the official update 4.2.2 and unrooted.

GPS works very well for me in both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. It seems your GPS doesn't work at all. Maybe take it back for a replacement?
Just to be sure... try tapping on the lower right icon that zooms to your default location with GPS off. It should show a pretty wide blue circle. When you toggle GPS using the widget and you see the GPS icon appearing shortly on the notification bar, can you check if the blue circle shrinks due to the more accurate GPS measurements? Of course try this in an open area...
The GPS icon doesn't stay on for me always when I turn it on, I always presume it will only really be activated periodically when it needs to...
Have you turn on some power saving function? try to turn them off.
Problem went away, but unfortunately I dont know how. I did fiddle around with the app GPS STATUS and deinstalled Google Maps to stock. Cleared all caches too. Glad it was software and not hardware.

Hi,
I often use the RunKeeper application when I make long walks. In all my previous phones, the GPS kept working when I turned off the display and put the phone in my pocket. In the mi 5, however, it seems like the GPS stopped functioning as soon as I turn off the display put the phone in my pocket. When I take it back out, it shows the same position that I was at when I put the phone in my pocket, and within a few seconds it is updated to my actual position.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a matter of settings (maybe even permissions)? Same happens with navigation apps like Waze - if I put another application to run in the foreground, such as Youtube, then Waze (while still working in the background) loses my location, and when I switch back to it after some time, it takes a few seconds to show me my new location.
Thanks,
Shlomy
Hi,
This has happened to me also while using the Starva app and the reason is MIUI doesn't allow to use the Location in Background.
To allow that, go to
Settings -> Battery & Performance -> Power -> App Battery Saver
and select the app you want. Then you'll see that Background location is Restrict. Make it Allow and you're good to go.
Regards,
Samitha
Thanks so much! Almost got me to try custom roms because of that.
