Why does all the gingerbread roms I flash on my captivate freeze after 12 hours since boot? Please help! These roms are the greatest!

.. that's not cool. I have yet to expereince this. I'm assuming you've done all the cache clearing and stuff. I know it sucks, but have you tried a factory reset?

No ill try that now !

I was having a very similar issue with any of the i9000 GB ROMs (GR, Perception, Mosaic, Continuum, symply, subpression) It would freeze and need a reboot, or randomly reboot on its own. I never had this issue with any if the 2.2 ROMs. Studacris suggested it could be my phone, I have a build 1006 from day one. This weekend I'm going to try to get a replacement.

Im betting that once you do some cleaning things will work fine. That's why the step is included in the instructions.

[Q] Can someone point me in right direction please!

Using a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant
Firmware 2.2 using Mater's Axura Final Build
Kernel (i think stock) 2.6.32.9
Im having a small lag issue at certain times. Once in a while the phone will hiccup a bit during messaging. I will be typing words and its way behind what I am typing. And I am by no means the texting champion. Is there a Kernel that will help improve this, or a lag fix? Can someone help me out...Thanks!
Also, I have only flashed this one rom to my device ever... So not very experienced. I did try to run voodoo one click lag fix and soft bricked, but restored with Odin. And then re-flashed this rom im using now. Whats necessary to re-flash and try a different rom?

Which ROM have you flashed & which lagfix have you applied? You have to give as much details as possible.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Problem

Hello. I have recently flashed my phone with darky's. I got very disappointed mainly because of battery drainage and I switched to Doc's Custom Cooked ROM from romkitchen.org
My MAIN problem with Galaxy S is that after about 15 reboots (NO MATTER WHAT ROM I USE) I get the force close loop and everything goes straight to hell. All my apps are invalidated and nothing works anymore. I am tired of flashing and reflashing my phone. I just want to USE IT, NOT WASTE TIME FIXING IT!
I kindly ask for a solution on this forum. I would also like to say that I have applied the "/system corruption problem" but this didn't work at all.
I am eagerly waiting for an answer. Currently there are 2 sollutions:
1 - Solve this damn problem
2 - Throw SGS to trash can and buy an iPhone
Please help!
Just flash with the stock v2.2.1. Use your phone...
If you go with a custom rom, you gotta expect issues.

To be honest with you, it might just be your phone...I've flashed countless times and not had a bootloop in months. Try doing a factory reset and start from scratch from either Darky or Doc's ROM

+1 to that.
If you really want a custom rom with good battery... I'd recommend a clean 2.2.1 JPY flash and then Darky's 8.0/8.1 . The battery life is much better in those versions. I get ~1%/hr drain at night with Darky 8.1 vs ~3% with 9.2
I have recently tried Insanity 0.6.1 and find it very good. It actually doesn't have all that bloatware from Samsung and therefore it has more stability! I have been using it for a day. Given ~ 20 restarts and no problems. I hope everything is going to be allright. I'll report back in a couple of days or as soon as it gets problems.

[Q] CM7 and Modems

So ive been rooting htc phones for a while, and my friend wanted me to root his captivate for him which was completed, and now the phone is running cm7 nightly 4/21, platypus kernel 4/27, but my friend keeps telling me he loses signal and cant make calls and or send text msgs. Im thinking its the modem, can anyone helps out a samsung noob(me lol) and let me know which modem i should use, and how to install it? i tried flashing through cwm recovery 3 but it doesnt like the scripts. thanks in advanced
Scroll towards bottom fire compatible modems
http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/captivate/
Make sure your friend has a imei still on the phone. Hope you did the efs backup step

How often does it happen to him? My buddy has a cappy running cm7 nightly no problem. I had some issues at first so I cleared system/cache/data and reflashed initial, then updated and it works fine. I lose service at times but I did before root anyways.

awesome thanks guys, i just flashed jl2 modem from the teamhacksung site, hopefully my friend will see better results. he said it was happening quite a bit. i also installed cm7 according to the instructions to a t
edit:i just flashed JL2 but when i look at baseband in about phone it says JK4 (confused)
Yes it is a mistake they have jk4 in the jl2 pack
You can flag any modem now just replace the modern bin in the flag package
Use the package because it is cwm 3 compatible

awesome, thanks alot
he may have one of the captivates with a rare hardware defect that makes him incapable of using i9000 modems (jk3, jk4, jl2, kc1, etc). I have a similar captivate and am forced to use the KB1 captivate modem (check my signature), which unfortunately has no voice processing. it makes calls sound horrendous, but it maintains a constant signal. so depending on how he wants to use his phone, it may work for him (assuming he doesn't place many phone calls, just texts). if not, for now, CM7 may be unusable for him and you may have to fall back to a KB1-based ROM that uses a Captivate kernel/modem.
I suggest Torch + OverStock kernel + KB1 modem.
There's absolutely no way around it?

Please use the ROM-specific sticky at the top of the forum. That's why they're here.

nope. if he has a captivate suffering from this issue, his choices are to use KB1 and have ****ty voice quality or use a captivate modem/kernel combination on froyo. until audience chip is ported, there will be no alternatives.
Thread closed, since this can be discussed in the sticky.

[Q] GT-I9000 Bootloop with Wifi on

Hi All,
I have a strange problem for the last month or so which is giving me a lot of headache. I was hoping someone here could help me.
I have a galaxy s i9000 which I got on contract from 3 UK a few months back which came with Froyo 2.2.1. Everythng was fine and sometime later, i was offered an upgrade to Gingerbread and I went ahead with it. Then, I decided to root the phone as well with CF-Root, something I had never done before (rooting Androids that is).
It went well with that as well, and I got CWM and Superuser installed but I discovered that I can't use the Wifi anymore. The moment I switch on the wifi, within a few seconds the phone goes off into a bootloop. Switching off, battery pull, nothing works and the bootloop just comes back when the phone is booted back up. Apart from a full factory reset and a restore from a nandroid backup I haven't found a way of correcting this. So effectively, I am without Wifi at this point. Since then, I have switched to a different cf-root kernel, added lagfix etc. and everything works...except the wifi. I have not touched the ROM in any way, despite being tempted to do so many times. Didn't want to break anything else in the phone being quite new to this.
The current setup of the phone is the following:
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000JV5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVO-CL182937se.infra
Build: GINGERBREAD.NEJVD
I had other cf-root kernels before, and all of them have the same wifi issue. This one at least gives me a very smooth interface.
Would really really appreciate if someone out there can help me or point me in the right direction. Why am I getting this bootloop when I switch on the wifi and is there a way of stopping this? Many thanks in advance.
Abhi
I'd come off that baseband as its your network operators release, flash JVH, JVP, JVR or JVB or something, then all should be fine dude

Many thanks. Finally took the plunge and used rom kitchen for jv5 with full wipe. Things seem to be working fine now. Am still using the same kernel and it looks ok so far!
Word of advice....galaxian kernel will double your phone speed it *whoosh* super quick lol

Thanks for that! But now, using my new found confidence on all things Android have installed GB 2.3.4, again from ROM kitchen. The kernel is the Chainfire kernel of JVP. Its fantastic and the phone has speeded up tremendously!! Will still try Galaxian to see if it gets better.

[Q] my i9000 boot loops a bazillion times

hi guys
my i9000 boot loops a bazillion times before it finally decides to start up normally.
I was wondering what could be the cause of it and if there's a way to fix this
the phone is rooted on stock gb 2.3.3
(just rooted the phone, didn't flash any custom rom or kernel on it)
everything else works great, except the boot loop problem when I reboot the device sometimes
if flashing is a solution, please recommend something that works great with the i9000
I'm really thinking to flash it, but thought to ask here first
thanks!

Flashing it is probably the best option IMO you should give one of the many 4.2.2 ROMs a try the i9000 loves it

is it possible to jump straight from 2.3.3 rooted stock, to a 4.2.2 rom like you suggest?
and what are you having on your i9000 m8?
and how's the battery life?
