Darky Q&A
It seems that a pinned Q&A for Darky is missing here.
I have been using Darky 8.1 and just recently decided to give 9.3 a try. One of the things I have liked about Darky is that that the version of 2.2.1 on it supports bluetooth voice dial. I have a BlueAnt S4 in my car, and although it does not voice dial 100% perfectly, it's still worth using. (the rest of the 2.2.1 roms I have tried that do not support bluetooth handsfree)
Okay, here is my question: on Darky 8.1, going to Settings - Display - Wallpaper -Lock screen wallpaper - Gallery ... would result in->
Sorry!
The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
[Force close]
I seem to remember the initial update to 9.0 (or 9.1) listed that this was fixed. I just got 9.3 running last night, and this still results in a force close. Does Darky have a forum to post this kind of thing, where the developers might see it?

Okay, Swype just expired.

I am on Darky 9.3 extreme captivate edition. Any fix?

Same problem here, also on Darky 9.3 extreme cappy. I've tried reflashing the captivate swype file, restoring a previous back up, and installing the newest beta. No dice on all 3 accounts.
This doesn't seem to be a problem with just Darky though, and poking around the site it doesn't look like it is exclusive to the Captivate either.
Darky's 9.3 phone not receiving calls
Once again I would have posted in Darky thread in android development if I could..
Ever since I have installed Darky's my phone has had problems receiving calls and will often say "simcard removed from phone please reboot". Today I got a new simcard because I thought that may be the problem but I tested and it still doesn't work. My friend rung me and as the call comes through my phone loses service and the call gets cut instantly and slightly later it'll pop up saying simcard removed please reboot phone. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's time to go to Cyanogen Mod..
Did you ever restore data with Titanium Backup after you installed Darky's?
Yup I restored everything that was on my old rom Cognition
That's your problem. I used to have the same problem. Your phone settings is different between the two ROMs. You should typically ONLY restore app data. Not the system data.
Try going into back into TiBu, then find 'Phone' and click on 'Wipe data'. Hopefully that'll make your calls work again. If not, you might need to reflash Darky's.
System data backups really don't work well between different ROMs (and even different versions of the same ROM).
P.S. Nice to meet another NZer btw.
Oh I see, yeah that makes sense, I asked a friend if I should restore everything I backed up and he wasn't sure so I just restored them all anyway. Now I'm not sure if I should reflash Darky's or move to Cyanogen Mod.
I would try the 'Wipe data' thing first before I try any flashing though!
Upgrade from 9.2 to 9.3 help
In the dev thread, it says you should flash a captivate kernal and modem before installing 9.3. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a guide to flashing modems/kernals.
Just kinda worried cause I have read so much about people bricking their phones when putting the wrong kernal/modem combo together. I noticed on the Darky app it has options already there, so do I have to downlad the kernal seperately, or did it come with the app, or does the app download it from somewhere?
I am afraid that if I flash the modem first, then reboot it won't match the kernal and I will get stuck.
Thanks!

You can flash a Modem in Recovery just like you Flash a ROM or Kernel. If you happen to Flash a wrong Modem it won't cause any problems other than you won't get Cell Service. I am presently using the New znkp1 modem and it doing Great on my Cappy with 9.3 Darky and SuckerPunch/Voodoo Kernel.

Just letting you know that in the Darky Rom Configurator App, if u enable LockScreen Wallpaper, it would use Samsung Gallery which has a battery draining bug. Hence it is an option in the Darky app before flashing.
If you really want to use it, enable it and then flash. Or I'll just work on disabling that menu option.

Don't know if I'm too late on this but...the modem/kernel combo included has been working good for me; no need to change it. Like rickysa2000 said, don't select a modem/kernel using Darky's Configurator when you flash 9.3.
My only SMALL issue has been when going into APPS and sometimes they won't scroll for maybe two/three seconds.
But it's still my favorite ROM so far (though it's only my fourth). Especially impressed with the dev's attitude and willingness to help!!!
[ROM] Darkyy's 10.0 Gingerbread!
I was just in the i9000 forum and Darkyy said he will have a flashable rom on friday!!! I hope we can get this ported for the Cappy.
Edit: looks like beta 3 is already available for the i9000. Got so excited I impulse posted...

Hi, are there any Viber Beta users out there?
None of my call recipients can hear me. Im wondering if any other SGS users (or even SGS users with CM7) can make successful calls?
Could it be a SGS x CM7 issue?
This is over excellent Wifi.
I can hear the other person very clearly.
Thanks peeps.
***EDIT***:
A ticket has been raised to Viber, don't flood them with CM7 SGS issues!
From Viber:
"Thanks for contacting us.
This issue has been transferred to the proper department and we're currently investigating this matter.
If more information will be required, a Viber representative will contact you in this regard.
We kindly thank you for your patience."
Same here and no joy at all.

MIUI huh? So it doesnt appear to be a CM7 problem.
Are there any Official ROM SGS users that are having problems!?
Same probleme here with CM7 but i can hear my friends who have got stock firmware!? Another friend has Boogies MIUI Custom Rom 1.6.24 and I can hear him so it must be another problem.. Has anybody found a solution? (Sorry for my english)
No solution yet.
Im trying to figure out where the problem is coming from so I know where to ask questions.
So it seems that Viber works for Stock SGS, but not MIUI or CM7.
http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/...ew/45/0/is-your-android-compatible-with-viber ... SGS is listed as working with Viber.
Anyone know if this is solely affecting SGS CM7 users? or with ALL CM7 users?
I have a i9000 running CM7 with the same problem. It isn't just the i9000 running CM7 who have this issue, but also on the Incredible (I'm not allowed to quote the source because of XDA linking constraints). I tried using the Tango app for voice/video-conversation, and it worked flawlessly there.
We should keep posting as we learn about this issue and inform the devs from either CM7 or Viber about it as well

I have tested the forfone app from the market and the same problem here so I think it isn't a viber problem.. But with skype everything is ok!?

It wasn't on XDA, but on Reddit (/r/Android/comments/iunhy/viber_finally_launched_for_android_free_calls_and/c26tabk). I forgot to mention that this wasn't the same problem (he got FC), but he ran CM7 on his phone and had a problem with the app.
As i see it... as I am sharing the problem as well... we need to see if it is working on other devices that run on CM7 or MIUI not just the sgs.
then we will know if it is a problem just with the sgs or with CM7..
same here.
sgs+cm7 can hear but cant speak.
tested with iphone, android, over 2g, 3g wifi
It seems that it's a problem in Viber on all galaxy phones.
take a look at the second comment:
http://www.viberfaq.com/viber-android-beta-version-review/
Viber works just fine. Stock odexed JVQ+speedmod kernel
As stated by "DaRkMyk", just uninstall the beta and download the new version from Market. It's working just fine for my SGS, Juwe's 5.2 Rom.
I9000T Mexico + CM7 no mic!
It seems that Viber is fine for Stock SGS ROMs, which is expected since Viber specifically developed and tested on it.
Haven't really got a definitive answr for MIUI ROMs, but there definitely seems to be a problem with CM7 and SGS.
Anybody know any CM7 non-SGS users out there? Do you know if Viber works for them?

No luck. Just tried that along with several other "GPS Fix" apps. For GPS Aids, the XTRA (native mode) fails so I tried using it in "forced mode". Still nothing. Curious why I can't start lbstestmode.

Hmm you might have a captivate with a really bad gps .(hardware)
Where can I download v2? I'm running 1.9 now and loving it. The best battery I've had, ever. I'm getting 15 to 19 hours usage with ~2hrs display and 1-2hrs talk. The same basic setup since the day I bought it (7/10), multiple gmail accts, wifi and bluetooth on and display set to automatic.
3G problem
Hello I love the ROM. I had Fasty 2.5 but changed to Fasty II 1.9. Now my Browser dont work in 3G, yes in WIFI, also the Opera Mobile, but Opera mini works OK and other software that use 3G like Market and Slingplayer also work OK.
Thanks!
Check out my post here about my GPS issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17574640#post17574640
Loaded Fusion V and have GPS back. But, I prefer FastyII...
So Far So Good
I haven't had a chance to really test drive the ROM yet, but things are looking fine thus far. There is a small bug. I have the honey smoke theme. I noticed that when I go to make a wifi connection and enable auto rotate (when entering WEP key) I have to manually go into settings in order to turn it off again. The drop down auto-rotate button won't work. Nothing major. Keep up the good works guys!
App kill
3rd day on fasty.. no issues.. Excellent battery life
I miss the CM7 feature which kills the current app by long press Back button. If possible, could you please add that in the next version
I have a problem, sometimes I try to open an app and looks like crash or something because reboot the phone, was with latitude, TouchPal keyboard trying to open it and the last was trying to read a text .

Last I checked fasty 2 thread is closed, and I lack the link to dl atm. But on cyanogen you should flash to stock. And get GB bootloaders if you dont have them. Also If you dont havr bootloaders id recommend flashing jf6 or kb1 (based on your phones build). After on stock flash GB bootloaders and then flash boogs kh3 kernel, then cwm rom. Alternatvly you can flash stock kh3, but i still recommend jf6 or kb1 first.
Im not on my computer so dont have links sorry

I followed all the instructions to the T, rooted and everything, but I'm having some difficulties getting the ROM to work?
Firmware Version: 2.3.4

I'm really not sure what the issue is, but it is giving me the old signature verification failed message when I attempt to install. (E:signature verification failed)
Thanks in advance

You need cwm. The esiest way to get it is flashing boogs kh3 kernel, DesingGears cog5 step 2 kernel (kf1) or any kernel with cwm.

Is there a fix, or different apk, for the email stock app (not gmail) that will fix the auto capitalization and auto complete? All other apps seem to work fine, but mail.
I am currently on Pinnacle 1.3 for Captivate, but had the same issue on Cognition 5, v1 and v2.
I saw there was a possible fix in the CM7 thread, but I tried to install it with CWM and it failed.
Thank you in advance for help.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong area, but I think I am okay. I have posted this question in the Cog and Pinnacle threads, but got no response.
Is it possible that no one else has this issue? Is it just me? Interesting that I have posted this several times, in different forums, and do not get a response?
Please reply if you do or do not have this issue. Thank you.
I have the same issue with the leaked 2.3.3 GB ROM. I haven't looked for a fix.
It is nice to know I'm not completely alone, but it is still interesting how few responses are here. Not sure what to make of that...
Anyone? Please... I have to get this fixed or I will have to bo back to early releases that didn't have the issue, which I really do not want to do...;-(
I really don't know. Only thing I would try is pulling the email apk from a froyo and using it on your ROM. I don't know if it will work or not.
Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread

Thank you mistrp74 and The Tox for the help.
I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Just one more question, what's your backup strategy that you guys use?
Or else it a lot of work to update each and every app... one by one... also what about the SMS, call log etc?

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?

Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
