I've had my phone rooted since August, you all might know me from the 2.3 thread. Anyways, I've been wanting to go S-OFF to change that infuriating white splash screen.
However, I'm on HBOOT 1.47, the bad one that doesn't work with darch's ENG-SPL. It flashes, but doesn't change to 1.46 S-OFF. I can use Regaw's S-OFF method, but I don't want a permanent S-OFF, just in case.
How do I get to 1.46, preferably without RUUing? I will do it if I need to, but I'd rather not take all that time:
1. Backing up
2. Running the RUU
3. Re-rooting
4. Installing ROM Manager
5. Re-doing Firerats
6. Restoring the nandroid.
So, can I get the ENG-SPL without running a RUU?
Have you tried flashing the zip I posted on darchs eng-spl thread???

I thought that was a RUU? One second.
Nope the ruu in zip format is on thedarknights thread. If that zip dosent work then I think you can just flash the .27 radio and then try flashing darchs eng-spl. " I think" Also that zip is for Ra if your on the newest cwm you will have to chang the scripting. That you will have to pm duce or jm for they know about converting zips from Ra to cwm. Or you can just flash Ra temporarily and try it. Then flash back to your current recovery.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always *
Sorry, different link that I thought was posted.
I am using cwm 2.5, that's still amend though. Does that matter?
I also have .29 right now, I'll try .27, since I just flashed this and I'm still 1.47 S-ON.
Your good as far as the recovery. And yea try the .27 radio because darch-spl doesn't work with .29 and then reflash the eng-spl zip. Its a long shot but it might work.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always *
Huh, that wasn't said in the thread at ALL. Thanks! Let me try.
Flash radio then eng-spl, or radio->reboot->spl?
Hummm. Id say flash radio first. Then reboot. Let it settle in. Then flash the eng-spl. After flashing the spl reboot back into recovery then power down. Then press and hold volume down and power to see if it took.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always *
Sounds good. I'll let you know how it goes.
EDIT: Radio is booting up.
I can't get the radio to flash... Odd. Do you have a downgrade zip?
Try this it's flashable from recovery
Link temp removed
Let me know when you get it so I can remove the link
Edit let me know when your back on line and I'll repost it
I'm back, and have tons of free time to spare.
Radio? Or I could get on the IRC, where it's quicker.
Well if your on there check there. If your on here I'll post it now let me know.

I have the .29 radio and flashed darch's file from the OP on his thread using CW 2.5.0.7.
It didn't take the first time though. To get it to take, I booted into HBOOT while I was S-ON. Then hit Home to go to recovery. I then flashed the zip. Then I rebooted recovery. This is when it updated the HBOOT. Maybe I just got lucky because I have seen others having issues with flashing with the .29 radio.
EDIT: Thought I should clarify, you can reboot recovery from the advanced menu.
@poashil
Yea you got lucky "imo" because it was a know problem with the .29 radio. If I'm not mistaken he already tried and it didn't update it. But I don't use cwm so your way might work for him. And I myself had to down grade my radio to flash it. And did you flash the zip from the op?? Or the one I posted???

Zip from the OP.
I am tempted to flash back the 1.47 HBOOT just to try it again. I know it didn't take the first time I did the flash, but I rebooted the phone that time. So I tried it with rebooting recovery and then it took.

I just click on the link on the OP and it downloads it. Just tested the link.
UPDATE:
So I went ahead and flashed 1.47 HBOOT and I am now back at S-ON. Now the 1.46 won't hold.
I got it once so I am going to try again and record the EXACT steps when I get it.
First, this is way more steps than the initial time I loaded this, so I think laie1472 is correct that I got lucky the first time.
To flash 1.46 Eng-SPL with the .29 radio I had to use adb/fastboot. So first I plugged the phone to USB.
1. Load the CW 2.5.0.7 image file to the root of your SD card. (Can be found here)
2. Reboot to recovery and Nand your phone.
3. Wipe data
4. Wipe cache
5. At cmd prompt:
Code:
adb shell
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-heroc.img
reboot recovery
6. flash the heroc.hboot-1.46.2000.zip
7. reboot (Choose reboot system now)
From here the phone should show that it is updating the image. Then it will boot to FASTBOOT USB.
At the cmd prompt type
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
It will restart and you will now see you are S-OFF and the HBOOT will be 1.46.2000.
Press vol down to get to HBOOT (you will be in fastboot). Press HOME to get to recovery.
If you use firerat's, you'll have to reset it back up. Restore your NAND and reboot.

hey guys, I'm using a G1 (HTC Dream). It runs on Cyangoenmod 4.2.15 right now with a radio version that starts with a 1 (I don't know the exact version, the phone is not with me).
I'm trying to flash the 2.22.19.26I radio version by going to "flash zip" option. It goes about half way and tells me that it's having a a verification error. Could it be that I'm doing something wrong?
Try and redownload the radio or use newer radio which is 2.2.23.02 I think
Or do it via fastboot.

For fastboot you have to extract the .img file from the zip.
Okay, then what do I do with the radio image?

First, as a general precaution for the future, make sure the radio you're trying to flash is compatible with the SPL. The wrong radio/SPL combination can brick your phone. Upgrading from a 1.x to a 2.x isn't a problem, I'm just mentioning it for the future. It would also be a good idea to verify the MD5 checksum of the files you download.
Place the extracted radio.img file in the same directory as the fastboot executable, and once you have verified fastboot connectivity the command to flash the radio is:
fastboot flash radio radio.img

So any radio version should be fine at this point right? Either one with 2. right?
Also how can I check the MD5?

As long as we're talking about a t-mobile G1 (or an EBI0 Dream) a 1.x to 2.x radio upgrade should be no problem. Search on Google or Cnet for MD5 utilities, there should be several free ones out there.

Alright, I'm trying to install using fastboot, however, my G1 won't go into it. It goes to the multicolor screen and when I press the back button, it just reloads the multicolor screen. The HBoot is 0.95.0000. I installed the 1.3.2003 SPL but I'm still getting the same thing.

Hboot and SPL are the same thing, so if it's reading 0.95.0000 then 1.3.2003 didn't install and 0.95.0000 doesn't support fastboot. What recovery are you using?
Just remembered something else. Can you connect with ADB after the system is booted? If it works check the stickies at the top of this forum for more specifics, but you should be able to flash from there.

I have the RA-Sapphire-v1.7.06 recovery. Perhaps the SPL not installing is due to the MTD script I applied here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8002144#post8002144)
It has a USB-MS toggle option could that be used?
Also, it does connect on ADB, I checked the stickies, but I couldn't find anything about flashing the radio via adb, are you sure it should work?

Don't know about the MTD script, I use DangerSPL. Good thing you don't since it would brick your phone with the radio you have. One thing that seems strange to me is the RA-Sapphire recovery, that sounds like the Magic/MyTouch recovery not the Dream/G1 version.

No, I'm not sure, but since you can't use fastboot it's the other way to access the phone from the PC. Since you have root you should be able to flash the radio by putting the .img file on the SD card and using the flash_image command through the console or telnet.
I see that in the other thread you are being help by ezterry who is one of the most knowledgeable people around here and can give you way better suggestions than I can. Maybe a tongue lashing for cross posting too.

If you applied MTD then don't flash SPL from there. You need to start over, by erasing exiting recovery and reflashing the recovery again.
So I tried rooting my girlfriend's G1 and it didn't workout so well, so now I'm trying to fix it for her (I feel terrible, my poor android friend.. I mean my poor girlfriend!) . I rooted it and it was working find, but I wanted to flash a ROM on there. I tried flashing CM5 following the directions on the wiki. I made sure I installed Amon_Ra's recovery and did a nandroid backup. Then I flashed the DangerSPL. 2 things then happened, when I tried starting up the phone it would just hang on the "G1" startup screen until I pulled the battery, and when I went back into recover it switched back to the old recovery I had after root (JFv1.42). So I can't go back. But when I go into Fastboot, the HBOOT is at 1.33-2005, which indicated the DangerSPL was flashed correctly. So should I flash CM5( or 6 or 7) now? I just don't wanna get the phone to a point where it's unusable (unless it is already) =/ Can you guys help me out?
If you can go to hboot, everything should be fine. Check again, that you have a 2.x or 3.x radio installed (should be the case, because otherwise I doubt you would be able to go to hboot).
If this is the case, you can flash what you want. Probably I would flash Amon-RA recovery first
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <amon-ra.img>
To be sure, that you have a clean phone, I would do an
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
Then you can boot into recovery and flash the ROM you like.
Your girlfriend G1 still fine.
The CM5 that you have flashed is not compatible with the SPL(HBOOT)/radio combination. (to my understanding) That is why it gets stuck at G1 screen (that had happens to me).
For G1, you can only flash up to CM 6.1 (to my knowledge), Cyanogenmod 7 will not (according to the DEV) works on G1.
You can try other ROM, recommending ezGengerbread, or Gingerbread Yoshi, and also my favorite (I am currently using it.) SuperAosp DM 2.8.2.
You will need to use 2708 SP and 13d radio for the newer ROM.
First load the radio, then the SPL. After both have been flashed (you can check it in the fastboot mode) then flash the ROM that you want.

No, it's not adb, it's fastboot, a different program, but you are right, it's a program that runs on your PC. You have to make sure to have fastboot installed. Then open a command window and enter the commands above having your G1 connected to your PC and beeing in fastboot mode (boot with back + power).

Any suggestions would be cool. I typically use CWM 2.5.0.7.
Yup. If your s-off. Try a fastboot erase. Usually helps me out and you don't loose root. But it erases everything. If you decide to do it you should also consider backing up your data on your sd then formatting your sd threw your pc then threw your recovery. Then flash a fresh rom of your choice. Should have you running brand new.

As written in this thread you can flash the
orange-xxx.nbh via fastboot, then boot the rom and you have a full engineering SPL installed. From there you can continue as you want, i.e. flashing new recovery, new SPL, new rom, etc.
which firmware will i get after flashing this..and fyi i am using g1 us version..
I just thought of one other thing to try first. Install Android Commander on your PC. I have successfully reflashed Amon RA recovery with the new radio/SPL from there - there's an option to flash a recovery from your hard drive.

Failing that, you'll need to start with the nbh, then flash radio/spl/recovery using the instructions provided by Ezterry for installing the radio/spl.

Okay, so I have an HK m8 on sprint, FW 1.54.654.13.
I was originally on Viper 1.8.0, but wanted to upgrade to 2.0.0, so I went back to my stock backup, with the aforementioned software version.
After restoring that backup I realized I needed to also flash a stock recovery in order to take the OTA. So I flashed the 'Stock Recovery From 1.54.651.8 OTA' over adb from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736048
So, since flashing that recovery my phone seems to not have a recovery anymore; infact, it constantly reboots after about 1 minute of being booted to system. When I boot into recovery, I get a symbol of a phone with an "!" in a triangle over it.
Where did I go wrong? What recovery should I be using? I can re-flash TWRP, but it seems I still get the bootloop, even though it does actually boot into system (which I've never seen happen from a bootloop). It's been like this for 12+ hours, and no amount of searching has helped me out thus far, so I'm hoping someone here could help me out a little.

This is stock recovery
You could pull the stock recovery from the HK firmware...hopefully that will get you back to normal.
Worse comes to worse run the RUU.
I do not have the recovery.img in my backup. I'm also not S-off, so I think the only way I can upgrade my firmware is through OTA from what I understand, correct? If I could just flash the proper stock recovery I think I would be fine from there?

You can flash the full firmware while being s-on.
Alright, thanks! Can I go ahead and RUU 2.22.401.4 directly, or should I just RUU to my current stock firmware and just OTA from there?

2.22.401.4 is not for Sprint.
I would go with the current HK RUU and start fresh.

Damn. Alright, well from what I can see 2.16.654.4 is the latest for Sprint. After downloading O.M.J.'s RUU, would I be good to go straight to viper 2.0.0?

After you install TWRP recovery, yes.
For future reference Viper does OTA's which are not the same as Sprint OTA's...download the Viper OTA and flash in twrp.

Yes, I am aware. But on 1.8.0 I did not get an OTA. Maybe because I'll get it after I upgrade my FW. So after RUUing then reinstalling TWRP, if I restore my viper 1.8.0 backup, I can just OTA to 2.0.0?

Should be able to...
But if you are going to RUU why not just download the full rom and clean flash.

I tried flashing the full Rom per your suggestion, but after flashing the 2.0.0 Rom, it's like my phone has no OS and can only boot to bootloader or recovery, not system at all.
I also tried extracting the latest hk ruu to the root of my external SD card and running it through bootloader to no avail.
I feel like I'm missing a vital part of information here. I've never really ruu'd before so I'm new to that but I'm pretty stumped on this whole thing.

get the drivers for your phone + adb, rename the firmware update to firmware.zip, put it in /sdk/platform-tools
put the phone in fastboot, make sure it says fastboot USB and type fastboot devices in terminal to confirm it's connected.
then type in terminal Fastboot oem rebootRUU (capitalization matters.)
your screen will go black with a greyish HTC logo, then type in fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
once it's done doing it's thing type fastboot reboot
this method is pretty much failproof
EDIT: also, if you're flashing ONLY the sprint 2.0.0 update, you'll have to be on capt's twrp 2.7.0.7, otherwise you'll have to flash the full rom, boot into it, reboot into 2.7.1.0, and dirty flash the sprint viper ROM. Hope that helps, cheers >;3

Thanks for the reply! From my understanding, you need to be S-Off for that method, which I am not.
The method I attempted to use is this one, from O.M.J's thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
using 7zip, extract 0P6BIMG.zip to ext sd card
-boot into bootloader
-make sure*hboot*is highlighted, press power button
-it will scan your ext_sd card, then ask if you want to start the update
-press volume up & let it do it's thing...
The problem is, it scans my external SD card just fine but never asks if I want to start the update, nor do I get the option to press volume up etc... I am on captains twrp 2.7.0.7, as I've seen many other users confirm success with this recovery.
Also, I don't see just an update, it seems the Sprint version of the Rom I downloaded is the full rom. I actually did get it to boot once and got this (see screenshot), but it was a dirty flash.

Did you re-lock your bootloader?

download the full one and the sprint one, flash the first, reboot all the way (doubt you have to finish the automatic setup) then reboot into recovery and dirty flash the sprint one without wiping anything. It'll connect to the CDMA network instead of the GSM one with no problems, you don't even need to be on 2.7.0.7
And if it isn't working in HBOOT just go into recovery and adb sideload it, you shouldn't need to be s-off to do that. Enter adb sideload and just type in a terminal adb sideload (filename)
EDIT: idk why but that picture made me lol irl, KEEP CALM AND KANG AWAY
Alright giving that a shot now, thanks
That message is hilarious to me now, but it wasn't at the time xD
Edit: is it safe to dirty flash the first one, coming from 1.8.0? Also no, I haven't relocked my boot loader.

Ahhh, okay makes sense now. My m7 was s-off and that was the first and last time I ever did a RUU. If I re-lock the boot loader, do I have to go through htcdev again to unlock once more, or will having it locked again not effect root?
