[Q][GSM] How do I go back to stock firmware? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to revert back to stock firmware for my Rogers GSM Tab.
Anyone got a guide on how to do it? I got the firmware from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950104
If you can help thanks.
Guide-like would be best.

No one?

Just put your device into download mode by powering off then hold power and volume down buttons until you get yellow triangle, then flash the files with Odin while connected to USB.

Thanks but I need a step by step guide. What files go where and such.

There is a difference between lazy and through. Learn it.
Any HELPFUL members out there willing to actually HELP?

have you tried the restore button in the Samsung Kies, if you Backed up before touching your Gtab. XD sounded a little pervy there.

your step by step guides are provided in the backup scripts and howtos i mentioned and i believe that is being helpful enough.

Download quickboot from the market. Open it up and select recovery. Should be pretty self explanatory from there.

"nandroid backup/restore"
To me, it sounds like you heard about this somewhere, and thus now want to perform a backup. But we need to take a step back if thats the case, because it sounds like you're missing key knowledge of how the android system works.
In order to perform a backup you need to have an unlocked phone. There's a few steps to get there, in both setup of your computer, unlocking, flashing, and then if you choose flashing a custom baked ROM, but a ROM is not required for backup/restore. How-to w/ video!
The unlock process requires you to agree that you are voiding your warranty, if this doesn't sound acceptable to you, stop and take heart that most of your data is backed up in the (google) cloud (provided you actually input your contacts into your gmail account).
Next you need to install Amon RA's Recovery (also described in the how-to above).
Nandroid backup is included in Amon RA's recovery, when you load into the recovery (accessible from fastboot, or by doing an adb reboot recovery). The option to do a backup/restore is there in the list and is as simple as following the on screen instructions.

Are you sure there are no way to backup or extract the firmware whithout voiding the warranty ?
someone says it is possible before root (on droid maybe?)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8920841#post8920841
Ehow's howto is definitely wrong.
Nandroid is only provided with custom recoverys.
And custom recovery is only installable if you are root.
where to get 1.0-ERE27-nexusone-insecure.zip ?
ok thank for clarifying this ,
BTW i am looking for this file :
http://www.romraid.com/paul/nexusone/1.0-ERE27-nexusone-insecure.zip
can you help
I have downloaded a "1.1-nexusone-insecure.zip" last week but it is useless with a locked bootloader (operation not permitted when flashing).
The only aim of superboot is to get root on your current rom.
But the first step to do anything about root is to unlock the bootloader.
And void the warranty.

Need some help (couple questions)

im a bit new to xda developers. ive scourged the forums all day via search and found no concrete help or answers.
FIRST: i dont know what adb is and because of that, idk why my nandroid backups and restore wont work. it say "push via adb" or something like that
SECOND: i also dont know how to use sdk or whatever it is.
i need a detailed walkthrough of some sorts because the search on this forum sucks and did not help me at all

not to highjack the thread, but whats it mean when recovery starts prompting you to exctecute command via adb/sdk? i noticedbmy bluecarebear is TRUELY angry with me, so much hes not wiping my ext or dalvk!

Well using the xda search "ADB" the first result is a thread that leads you to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
How is that difficult? Everything you need to know about the ADB et al is there
As far as the sdk is concerned, your hero is rooted so it is on your pc already if you followed the traditional process. Otherwise it is there in the link as well.
Seriously I am not trying to be a smart ass but too many people give up before even trying.

I would try reflashing your recovery image.
I had trouble with the green one a while back, I changed images a couple times for other reasons. Back on green cb now with no problems since flashing over the problematic image.

Also not trying to be a smartass, but come on dude. If you're not willing to hit google and learn a little bit, then you are probably already in over your head just with what you've done to your phone so far.
I STRONGLY recommend you find a way to be happy with stock phones. Otherwise, I see a large collection of very expensive paperweights in your future.

[Q] Confirmation please

I will wholeheartedly apologise if I have missed something but I have spent the last two days researching this and am slightly confused.
I am looking for the SAFEST way to go to the ovecome ROM. I think the steps are
(I have a EURO Galaxy TAB with 3G)
1) ROOT the device
2) Go to market - Get Clockworkmod EURO boot strap?
3) Make the backup of the device using ROM manager? (Also on market?)
4) Then follow the steps in the comprehensive (thanks!) overcome manual
How does this all sound? I really want to ensure I am backup and have all tools in place before I start (JUST in case the brown stuff happens)
I really appreciate any input
Thank you

To backup (once i have root, and the bootrap in place) Its just a case of running up rom manager and hitting a backup button of some kind?
you need to back up your original rom, your private data such as contacts, as well as your apps from your stock rom.
rom manager, titanium back up, and even kies software can help you there.
Right ... done the research ... tonight we will overcome!
You won't be disappointed. I installed overcome the first day I got it and compared quadrant scores with my coworkers stock tab. He was getting ~1050 while I was consistently getting between 2200-2400 (overclocked to 1.4ghz with -200mV reduction).
Righ-tee-oh
I did survive - I did overcome ... THANKS FOR THE POINTERS GUYS!
Only 2 weirdisms ....
1) Could not use the superclickone to root - weird - As soon as I put USB logging on, KIES would not connect to the tab . Anyhow I just used z4root and problem solved!
2) The tab is much faster now ... In fact it may be a little too fast for my memory card (lol). Watching video, every now and then I get the slightest stutter like the buffer has been emptied - Any way to increase the buffer?
Many thanks again

Hi nirogu325, thanks for replying. This is what I am trying to do:
-Enable adhoc connection so I can use my windows mobile phone as a hotspot for my tabl, and
-Enable USB charging for my tab in my car and elsewhere, not just wall jack.
Based on what I've read, I need busybox (Titanium back up says it's installed but when I downloaded an app called wifiadhocenabler, it says it is not installed. Installing it from the market says I need Nand Unlock and this is where I'm stuck at the moment. Do you know how to perform this on the P7310? Or an easier way to meet the objectives above?
Thanks again

I assume you're on a stock firmware. If I were you, I'd flash this specific version which is already rooted and has busybox as you can read in the OP. Also, flash the v2d version of the motley kernel and go here for the USB charging script and instructions on enabling. I know that last link is for the 10.1, but it is the one motley linked to in the v2b version changelog in his kernel thread.
After my soft brick yesterday, I used Odin to "install" the version you attached in your General Guide post P310XARKJ5_P7310UEKJ5_HOME.tar.md5). That's the one, right?
Anyway, the good news is, I decided to install BusyBox without doing the Nand Unlock (maybe it was already done?), and it worked! The wifiadhocenabler app works now and I have a connection to my wm phone! Yay! Before trying the app (for the sake of onlookers) I tried the other method with the wpa_supplicant, such as the one here: http://androidtablethacks.com/android-tablet-hacks/how-to-enable-adhoc-wifi-on-android-tablets/ and it did not work for me. The app did!
So now, I'll try the kernel you posted above and then the USB charging.
I'm going to look over your general guide to see if I can figure out how to flash. I'm guessing it's the same or similar to when I recovered my tab in Odin...?

If you mean flashing a CWM package as the motley kernel, a file goes in the SDcard, you access the CWM Recovery and flash. That's a generic way BUT depending on what you will flash you may have to wipe. That's why I avoided altogether putting generic instructions regarding CWM packages in my guide (instructions may vary between ROM and kernels). Read your flashable package's thread carefully.
kind of like rooting? Yes, do I have to wipe to flash the motley kernel? I'm not seeing the flashable packages thread, can you point me to it?

No, lol. If you want to flash the motley kernel just follow that thread's instructions. I gave you the motley kernel thread link in a previous post. For kernels, no wipe is necessary, for ROMs, yes.

You're welcome. Some people have the tendency NOT to wipe while flashing ROMs...yet complain later on the road. Always wipe when it comes to ROMs if you want to avoid issues. The only bugs you will experience are the ones that come with the ROM already. Better safe than sorry.
Ah, that leads me to wonder...When my tab was soft bricked and I used Odin3 and inserted the KJ5 file into the PDA section, and so on (I think that was flashing), was I supposed to do a wipe before I did that? If so, would it be better if I started from scratch again? ...hoping not, but better now than latter I'm thinking.

No. ODIN clears everything (including kernels, ROMs and CWM Recoveries). Everything back to stock. I was just referring to flashing other custom ROMs (non-ODIN, i.e. CWM flashable) procedures. Stick to the thread instructions in your chosen ROM and you'll be fine. It's just that some don't follow instructions and due to that, they may experience weird bugs.
That's good news, and strange, because after I used Oden3 (in the way I previously described), all my apps and files were still in tact. Does it just affect the system and not the file memory?
P.S. Hey! I'm no longer a noob! lol I just noticed I am now a "Junior Member".

That is because you didn't check F.Reset Time on the left side of ODIN before flashing. It is advisable to make sure it is checked. My tablet is definitely a little laggy now, but that could be the 3.2 HC. Since I did not check that off, does it mean that it did not install on a clean wipe? I'm wondering if I should just do it while I remember the path to how I got where I'm at now. I doubt I'll remember everything down the road.
I have been making nandroid backups as well as titanium app backups.

nirogu325,
I'm back to do my clean wipe. I performed the wipe/data reset in nandroid and now it's saying there is an update from KJ5 to LA3. Do you still think the custom kj5 is better than the stock LA3? I'm wondering if I should just install the update, root, install the motley kernel and go from there...?
Hope you're well! I still think you should add a donate link...you don't have to be a developer, your assistance/guidance is equally helpful to the community.

I can paste files from other folders, but this one I copy and when I go to paste the paste option is not enabled; if I drag I get a little red circle with a line through it. Any ideas as to why it's rejecting?

[q] heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Excuse me but this is my first time here as well my first time having android device, and have no idea of it, i have a problem, i have galaxy note (Only 2 days) and i went to your forum to root my device (As i thought it is like jailbreak for my old iphone) and i downloaded the "CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5" as it was for my kernal vrsn, i followed the steps and all worked just fine...well after some friends got me worry about that rooting can damage your phone of am not aware of what i am doing, so i found a video of how to unroot using "DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING" and i followed the steps, so after i unroot one of those 2 icons was deleted, but CWM was not and each time i open it it says " CMW Manager needs SuperUser access to function ! If you have SU installed make sure CWM Manager is not blocked, then reboot and try again" so i use "DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING" again but nothing happened, then i use " CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5 " and clicked on (ALREADY ROOTED) and nothing changed then i thought that if again use (NOT ROOTED YET) then it will solve, but after the process finished, NOTHING CHANGED ONLY CWM icon is there.....
So i want to bring everything back to normal...HOW I CAN DO THAT..and please i am a beginner so please use easy steps with me....
Again Sorry for the inconvenience but have nooooooooooo idea what to do
