[Q] Heavy battery drain - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,i use ficeto´s jvh rom and my battery is very fast down.when i go to about phone>battery use have i 49% displaj and friend have wildfire and he have only 2%.how to solve this?

i didn want to say this,.. but this is stupid question.
If you use your device long time.. then sure the display gets higher priority in battery usage. Even you dont do anything it consumes battery.
It must be something consumes the most.
Your friend have rarely used his phone at the moment you checked with his.

but where is problem?4 hours and from 100% to 32% and i don´t play game and when i sleep battery lost 34%

MULTIPLE posts on battery drain use search and read them .

[Q] Serious battery drain problem(s)

The thing is, that I'm having this issue for a while now. Battery drains extremely fast both on stock, stock + ext4, cyanogenmod, no matter what. Now I decided to install the stable version of Darky 10.1, but it's just about the same... It's like it drops 2-3% percentages in couple of mins (~10m). I'm using my phone at minimum brightness (btw, display uses 9%! only of the battery), no OC/UV, no animations, only 2g, no wifi, no gps, no account sync, so I'm like really trying to get more...
Okay, and here comes the thing: It used up 70% of the battery in less than 5 hours, and the battery stats looks like this:
Android OS 62%
Android system 10%
Display 9%
Cell standby 5%
Phone idle 2%
Dialer 1%
Dead Rider (just a game..) 1%
In my opinion, everything looks great, but the Android OS. Now what the *** is that, that this crap uses 62% and growing ?! PLease help, thanks!

Hmmm what apps r u using ? how many apps do u have installed ?
Did u buy ur phone used or from new and if u got it from new did u do the over charging for 16 hours or more ?
android OS is a huge problem for battery drain with a few causes and plenty unknown.
to fix it completely will require some skill full people from a closed source.. Download an app such as juice plotter or similar to find out a cause of the battery drain.
there are things you can do such as undervolting for extra battery life.
But the best thing to do is type in Android OS battery drain, in the search bar and have a good read up. i had this mega battery drain a few weeks back but i have it under control now

Charge your phone till it reads 100%, reboot into recovery and I think in Darky's Kernel under advanced you will see wipe battery, do this, boot your phone and let it charge back to 100%, then unplug your phone, let it die to 0 and charge again.....something weird is happening because it shouldn't be that bad....if the above doesn't work and you can rule out apps possibly you have a bad battery?? To rule out apps, wipe everything and do a fresh install of a stock ROM if it still drops then i would say it's a bad battery, but try what I suggested first (wipe battery stats)
The last maps upgrade causes bettery drain....
how to slove this problem?
Hi!
I have the exact same Problem..some say this is a bug in the gingerbread versions and can only be solved by samsung...is this true? Any ideas?
Well, I've had a pretty big read-up on it, and tested it myself, what's more tried out other things too. So I came to a conclusion, that this is absolutely true. It's said to be enough the 'freeze' the apps that cause this problem, but it's just not true. With frozen, they somehow still did it. So here's what I've done, and it looks like solved (far not as good battery life as 2.2.1, but still, at least acceptable...):
- format internal sd card
- removed the suspicious apps (msyncml, syncml, it depends on your rom, the important is, that it has "sync" it its name, and NOT account sync!)(I also removed Samsung account, and everything **** that I didn't need)
I'm having BUJV9 on right now with newest FuguMod and it looks good.
It does not mean Android OS is using 62% of your battery over the time in question .
Its a measure of what has used the power not the power drain on the battery .
Though useful on a heavy drain as your figures show display off OS using a lot but what time span at the top of your figures ..
I would guess from figures posted you have something working away in the background . A factory reset usually cures that problem .
Or find the culprit .
PowerTutor from the market may help .

I was having the Same Problems with Battery Drain. (Dropped 70% in 6 Hrs.)
It is related to 2 Services on Gingerbread.
Software Update & Samsung Account.
Clear Data and Freeze Programs using Titanium Backup and Your Battery should be back to Normal.
Huge drain on battery SGS i9000 android gingerbread v.2.3.3
I did like some other users have done I quess!?!
I upgraded via KIES from earlier version of android. After upgrade I did a reset to factory settings, but didn't set the "Format USB storage".
I installed a few programs and used the phone for a few days. After short time of usage I noticed that the battery drained really fast. Like 20% within 1 hour or so. Normally 20% battery drainage happens in a day with little use.
Then I thought something must have gone wrong with the last upgrade. Many time the tip is to clear the phone again and this time I set the "Format USB storage". It worked. Now the battery drains about 30 percent during a normal day with little use.
Since I have a backup of everything, I just installed the backup so the phone is back to normal again.
I hope this might lead to solving battery drainage issue for other users or at least and idea of what could be wrong.
First of all, I do not trust this solution, but it work to me
Solution is simple, remove your memory card from the phone
That is all
After check, found that the scan media always running to scan the memory card
This might deal to corrupted card
People say backup the data from memory card, format the card, put back the data
I haven't try format the card
But after my phone remove the card, now already 13 hours, I still have 82% and I did few phone call as well
there is an app by the name of battery calibration...follow instruction from within the app and it should solve the problem of android OS drain .. i shifted from darky 10.1 to MIUI 7.7 and 100% to 30% in 3 hours with normal usage and no wifi .. after this app battery lasted for two complete days ... so try it
There is another MORE SERIOUS BUG in ALL GB ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134741
After full charge in GB, phone start using batteries ONLY instead of CHARGER ONLY like in Froyo and lower version builds.
Samsung folks goofed up BIG TIME by making phone use batteries instead of charger after full charge while stopping the charge cycle. Because of this OS thinks its running on CHARGER (or USB POWER) and shows batteries as full charge when in reality it runs on batteries after full charge and will eventually make the phone dead through full discharge of batteries.
You could test this by keeping the phone connected to the charger after full charge for a prolong period. When you disconnect, based on the usage during that time, the batteries will instantly show lower charge than around 100% (could be close to 0% as well depending on usage after full charge if you disconnect charger before phone going dead at 100% drain).
Did you flashed Darky in 100% battery? The tutorial suggest you to do that. You can try to wipe battery in recovery mode.

[Q] Bad battery drain, new SGS, tried everything

hello,
i've had my SGS for a little over a week now. from day one i noticed battery drain but i thought it was normal for a new device. i flashed darky's 10.1 extreme on the second day i got it because it was very slow and had a lot of bloatware ( i wasnt very patient and i flashed at 95% or 96% battery), the drain was still there. i let it go through a few recharge discharge cycles and no improvement, so i used an app from the market called "batterycalibration" by marosige, no improvement and it the reading would drop to 99% or 98% after taking it off the charger.
i did a little digging and discovered i had the android os bug (was over 50% usage usually) so i used titanium to wipe software update and samsung account, and froze the first, didnt help by much
i then flashed darky's again at 100%, and now it still reads full charge after removing charger and android os bug i gone (reads 4% system and 4% os), but drain was still there. i emptied it to the point it couldnt turn on anymore then charged it from wall charger while turned off to 100% while i slept
i woke up and tested it by playing a game (Blastmonkeys) for like 20 mins and the battery went down to 90%, that was less than 2 hours ago, and now its at 87% and it was completely idle
notes:
my brightness is turned all the way down with no animations but display reads 54%, wifi is usually on when im home but battery stats show 6% wifi so i dont think its a big problem
also, the device was bought locked in france by someone else and im in egypt, so i dont know anything about warranty..
im sorry for the long post but i tried to be as detailed as possible...
hello, when i upgraded my sgs to 2.3.3 i also got battery drain and android os was consuming hell lot of cpu about 70%,..,.,then i flashed 2.3.4 jvp i didnt get any battery drain in that firmware then i upgraded it to 2.3.4 jvq this also donot have ny battery drain..,,.i recommend u to flash it and try it once
will try, but isnt darky only compatible with JVH? what happens if i change to JVQ?

see jvp and jvq are bug fixing firmwares and i didnt use any custom rom ,..,i have stock firmware which i just rooted and didnt use any mod or rom.,,.,.jvp and jvq are stable roms diffrence between the both is that in jvq browser is improved gallery improvement,.,..,etc
As far as I know, the percentage not being 100% after unplugging is normal. To prevent wear on the battery, the phone cuts the charger after reaching 100%, and restarts charging when it reaches ~95%.
I don't think a 3% drop in battery over 2 hours is uncommon. Wifi and data connection will pull a lot of power if on, even in standby.

Normal, this phone drains about 20% battery per hour of screen use, slightly less when watching video.
2-3% drain over 2 hours is also pretty normal if you have wifi/sync on.

I just got my SIM card replaced today. The one I had used before was about 12 years old. So whenever you-re having battery issues, make sure your SIM card is not the cause for it .

[Q] Extreme battery drain

I am experiencing an extreme battery drain with ALL the roms i tried.
The battery lasts maximally 5h, with 20-40mins of 3g browsing.
Currently at 38%, display max brightness, 2h 12mins usage,78% in battery use / Opera Mobile usage 22 m
ins, 9% in battery use.
13h since last recharge (i went to sleep).
Also my battery magically charges itself while on standby, up to 4% per hour.
Im pretty sure my battery is calibrated, even if it isnt it would give me the same power.
Also it heats up to 59c (even when i wasnt on 1.2GHz kernel)
I think u need a new batt. Same thing was happening with the iphone and untill i've replaced the bat the same thing happened.
.
Thought so.
Will flash stock 2.3.5 or should i flash 2.3.3, which is the latest official for my network?
I think it doesnt matter...
Well the guys in the service are a$$es so it will take them about 2 weeks for it...
i'm not sure tere is such thing as stock 2.3.5 and i think only MIUI has this. Last is 2.3.4 but i might be wrong.
There is xxjvs that is a 2.3.5 firmware
No your battery isnt wrecked neither magic took place its just that ypur battery stats are messed up!
Fixing them-fully recharge your battery until it shows 100% then switch your phone off and then let it charge for another 1 minute then go to recovery mode( you have cwm recovery right?) Then go to advamced then delete battery stats from their and reboot your phone ! Then for best result ypu can fully drain your battery to nil unt it switches off! Your battery stats should be now fully fixed ! Dont worry for deleting battery stats system will make them again in a few minutes or on a reboot !

What would you do when ...

hi all ,
my phone is having some battery drain issues ...when i use GXP v22 the battery drain 1% everty minute in standby ..no battery in just 2 hours with GDX it last only 10hours
even when i full wiped , clear dalvik , wipe battery stats the battery still dies to quickly ...
so what would you do?
oh ya i got this rather odd problem the battery went standby for about 4hours ..the battery was 75% and still is ..but then when you use like 1 minute it drop another 1% ..why?
will the launcher be he culprit? i use launcher 360 ..
i off everthing , 3g ,0% brightness , no haptic , no wifi , no bluetooth use silent etc...
flash the other rom after flashing gdx without full wipe.. hope it works ...

Try another "Rom" i guess it's not the launcher but the rom itself, try XGin 6.2 it has a great batt. life. been using it for over 2 weeks now and i'm pretty happy with the battery life.
wifi always on, calling, texting, media streaming, brightness set @ 70%, surfing and my batt last for about 1day 7hrs..
will it help if i give it some time ? maybe a week or 2 ?
I don´t think so.
But that battery drain IS NOT NORMAL, I normally get beetween 24h and 48h of without charging, sometimes even more, and less when I use Wi-Fi or play 3D games.
There´s a battery calibration app on the market:
You charge you phone, an when it´s at 100% you click a button and then the app wipes your battery stats.
You can also set an alarm that rings when the battery is on 100%.
GingerDX v022 on Stock Kernel, smartass governor (default scaling values of 122->600 MHz)
With WiFi and 3G turned OFF the battery drain is 1% in ~2.5-3 hours (phone idle).
With 3G turned on and WiFi turned off the battery drain (almost full reception) is 1% every 4.5 minutes!!! (~7 hours before the battery dies)
With WiFi turned on and 3G turned off the battery drain is 1% every 15-20 minutes (phone just sitting there causing the usual traffic of Gmail, Talk, Sync).
Try to set your phone to a comparable configuration (no idea if GXP has a CPU Governor setting - in GDX it's in CyanogenMod Settings) and try to replicate the test ...
From the "with GDX it last only 10hours" you wrote it sounds like your phone is constantly connected to WiFi or 3G (and maybe having download/upload traffic going on - therefore increasing the power consumption).
EDIT:
Also note that overclocking (as I recall I spotted a overclock thread of yours) will chew the juice out of your battery at a way faster pace.
Keep in mind that the values may differ depending on the GSM/3G reception ... the weaker the signal, the more power the phone needs to apply to communicate with the tower. If you're in an area where the reception is poor you shouldn't wonder about the battery getting eaten.
As a last resort, keep an eye on what applications you have running in the background. The more crap you got running, the more bat drain you're going to have when processes are fighting over CPU time.
NONO i never on wifi / 3G / bluetooth / GPS ..cause of the poor battery i tried my best to save as much battery as possible ...but in no use =( i cosntantly use task killers and i use smartass governer i think i will try stormvix ..oh! and starting my phone eats about 20% each time i does it ..is this normal?
i tried the battery calibration app ..doesn't do jack =(
should i pcc my phone? and redo everything

"starting my phone" translates into what ... ?
Turning it on (from being powered off) and letting it boot up results in 20% loss of battery charge?
That's NOT normal at all ... your charge should lose 1% at best if it was already close to going down by a percent.
Using the phone for a phone call makes it lose 20% battery charge?
Well, that entirely depends on the length of the call and the reception. Going down 20% would be about... hmmm... 1.5h talking time (estimated from the top of my head)?
At any rate ... a rapid loss of charge like your 10 hours while the phone just idles around twiddling thumbs and not being connected to WiFi or 2/3G is not normal no matter how you look at it. EDIT: Unless you overclock sky-high and running the performance governor which would keep the CPU fully clocked no matter what's currently going on.
starting in the sense like restarting eg entering cwm / xrec ...i flashed back to stock now ...gonna do it all again .. i knew this was too much drain i off everything even background data and i use smaratss 122 - 710 , even my brightness is 9% ...

Just for testing purposes to see if the bat drain stays within a sane stretch I recommend you stay with 122-600MHz.
It would also help to install some app/widget that monitors the current clock of the CPU - just to see if there's something which keeps your CPU busy and therefore running at full throttle. I recently saw something like that, I just fail to remember where and what the name of the app was ...........
okay so i flashed to stock last night ..i on everything sync , wifi , bluetooth , data etc for 5 hours it drained only 10% surpisingly ...after 10seconds it restarted and dropped to 3% ..odd...and i fully charged my phone to 100% and left it there for about 1hour and it dropped from 100% - 86% ..any solution?
There are only two things left that I would consider ...
a) The circuitry monitoring the battery charge is bogus and pulling random values out of thin air (would indicate a hardware defect in the loading circuit on the motherboard).
b) Any change the guys who repaired your phone from the hard brick returned your device with a old, almost dead, battery instead of the shiny new one you had in your W8 that bricked (you know, shady retailers thinking to make a few extra bucks by selling off the battery of your dead phone as used-part replacement to earn a "little something extra")? This would closer match to the 10->3% / 100->86% jump symptoms - the battery being about dead and therefore unable to hold the charge and draining like wild.
I don't know which of these two options to favor, but I would give "b" a 51% chance over "a".
EDIT: Stay with the Stock ROM and complain with either the repair shop or SE as the drain problem can be reproduced any given time. This should actually be covered through warranty as the original phone wasn't that old, and the repair is somewhat unrelated. The battery should at least last for two years before you should observe major degrades.

3% per hour battery drain while idle

So my X1 running Code Butter NAND ROM is experiencing a 3% battery drain per hour. It's not really that much of a big deal since I can make it last a day on idle state, but what's the use of that? I even bought a new battery. I did all the drain the battery first procedure and charge it fully thing already. Last night, I charged it. At 6:00 AM, I unplugged it. When I came back home, the battery readings were at 60%. It was at 100% when I unplugged it. Please help me with this problem.
Before giving any tips, here's what I have already done since I did some research on the forum...
I have reflashed my device. I have been flashing different kinds of ROMs but still experiencing the same battery drain.
I don't have any apps which may be the cause of this. If there is an app, it must be Swapper 2. It's kind of famous already.
I always calibrate my phone after flashing. I just flashed it 2 days ago. Calibrating actually fixed the battery indicator.
I have used CPU Spy. According to the readings, my phone enters deep sleep.
I don't use any task killers. I do have a rebooter app which can hot boot the device. However, I don't use it very much because of the speed Swapper is giving.
I have cell radio turned on. That's it. I don't have any other connections. I don't have 3g or whatever.
Even though my phone enters deep sleep, I have installed betterbatterystats XDA version. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything interesting.
I don't have any battery saving apps. I used to have JuiceDefender Ultimate. However, it didn't do much. It still drains 3% per hour.
Please help me with this problem. I think I'm starting to annoy people for asking so many questions. This shall be the last thread I'll ever make. I only start new threads if I can't find any solutions. Please help me.
Well, the battery driver in the kernel isn't optimized nor completed, so there is a major general problem with it... Currently CoolrunnerII is "playing" with an X1 to try to map everything, but as Elibl discovered, the battery driver isn't correct and should be replaced with the same as x10... But until then, the battery is draining just like this.
Yes, but there might be a solution.
I'm getting tired of all these android issues. I'll just install Windows Mobile 6.5 with the HARET.exe thing. Thanks for the help anyway. What's the best "HARET" android for your opinion?
Twizdroid or sensedroid
Hi there, if you will be trying again someday a NAND ROM, here is a solution that worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16808932
I have bought a new battery and now on NAND ROM ZeamDroid v.7.2.1 my battery drain is about 1% per hour in sleep mode. Apps that I use: SetCPU and Battery Monitor Widget.
We don't have the same device but we seem to have the same issue.
Did you ever find out how to fix it ?
