[Q] Best block numbers/blacklist app? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wondering what everything thinks the best call blocker/blacklist app is out there. I've tried a couple but seem flaky.

There should be a built in one for calls. Would be nice if the nightly had one for texts. Now that would be sweet!!

hands doown either super private conversation or extreme call blocker both work really good.

Thanks... I tried SPC... I'll try extreme.

there both about the same also u can call sprint sprint and give them the numbers and they'll do it. i was forced to do that awhile back when a really shady collection agency was calling me about 3-5 times a day asking for someone else it was crazy so i called sprint and they took care of it the problem was is they would call from random numbers so i just had to keep giving the new numbers to sprint until they stopped. im also on the national do not call list and they were still getting threw i almost sued for harassment.

I have been using aFirewall and like it alot. The only thing I wish it would do is block all text messages from numbers that are not in my contacts.

T-Mobile Pulse System dump APPS (BlockBreaker2,SoundRecorder)

Some cool applications that I took from Drizzy Drake's T-Mo Pulse System dump. I'll see if they're anymore applications that can be run on the G1.

Sound Recorder FC's when you click on "Recordings", any way I can fix that? Otherwise it works fine.

run a fix_permissions in terminal or command line and see if that fixes it. I'm running Cm 4.1.99 and both apps run great.
wrong thread, sorry.

Umm I think you ended up in the wrong thread. These are T-Mobile Pulse apps, not Sprint apps.
fix_permissions did not seem to work.
Any chance of getting the dialer? Im wondering if its similar to the dialer in the hero roms, with the dialer contact search.
Block Breaker works great on the rooted Tmo 1.6(donut). Thanks for this. Haven't tried the sound recorder...
i love this game!! its the best game for the g1. that robo defense game is soo boring. is fun for like 2 seconds then just repeats. i was blown away with how different the stages in this game are, with the bosses(totally unexpected) and the weapons upgrades. i started playing it, just to try it, but couldnt put it down lol.
and the recorder is good but i get the same fc's when clicking on the recordings thing. havent tried the fix per. yet though. but really why do we need it? theres a free one on the market i thnik. plus theyre really just shortcuts, because the g1 already has a recorder built in, just no shortcut to it

yeah, block breaker 2 really is cool ! I made it up to level 10 last night. I don't know why you guys get the force close on the sound recorder, maybe it's because you guys are running cm 4.1.999?

i don't think there is anyway to port the dialer from the pulse rom, it's like trying to port the hero widgets to the g1.. it's solely for that rom.
Maybe someone who is good with JesusFrekes smali/basksmali can try to port it to the G1.

Asurion address book out!

Write Asurion in Market and download the address book and the mix ins you want to get installed...
Amazing app, let's see how it develops...
im gonna bumb this cause this app is pretty cool. It connects all your contacts with facebook and twitter or w/e social network u use. It takes a couple min to setup and sync all your contacts though. I liked the notifications that it gave you for each contact. I did find it a little slow and the interface isnt really apealing. All in all, its pretty good just needs work on the interface and on the speed as well...
Havin some difficulty figuring out how to set up different notifications.
Pictures for contacts dont update with the FB page.
Ugly UI.
But to be honest the FB portion is better than the FB app. Its worth it for that alone. Alot of functionality seemingly. Absolutely needs to be streamlined.
still too laggy for daily use. it froze my phone for a good 4 minutes.
I messed with it a little. Seemed to be really slow on my G1 with CM 4.1.999.
My personal faveorite contacts app is still StarContact - I just wish they'd update it... I'd at least like to see contact photos. I hate it when good apps go abandoned.
As it stands it certainly isnt an Addybook replacement by any means.
I do hope they stick with it.
This is easily replacing my phonebook. I love it! I don't know what these other people are talking about with lag, but on cyan 4.2.2 it is phenomenal! I am blown away by it and am so glad something similar to voxmobiles upcoming effort has come out.
i'd love to try it out, unfortunately it seems it's not yet available here in germany - at least not for me
if someone could pass it on to it'd be much appreciated
cheers
anyone have a direct link? I can't find it in the market. Thanks!
Yeah I cant find it either.
I read in one of the market comments that it doesn't sync with Google, is that true?
cant find this in the market i found the you tube and speed dialer but no address book. anyone have a link?
Those of you who can't find it, where do you live. My buddy from Canada couldn't find it either. Might be a regional issue but I'm not sure.

We need to know what region we need to be in. I have T-Mobile USA and am unable to find it in the market as well.
I have German T-mobile and after a call force close!

Also have T-Mobile USA and found it. Search for Asurion.
It's a great app, but I found it has issues with the MixIn settings. It still gives notifications even though I disable them. It appears other people have issues with the settings as well that want to change update intervals so they don't use so much data. Keep in mind this is still in beta. Can't wait for an update.
can't find it. I have t-mobile USA. searched asurion and only the speed dialer and you tube mix in shows up. I'm running xrom if that helps. even if i try getting the link straight form the website, it doesn't show up. weird.

ROM question....

I have tried a few ROMs here for my Hero and am not finding anything for what I need. Maybe I haven't looked enough but I have looked.
I have tried the Blue Froyo and Darch's 2.8 and neither let me play any of the music I have on my sdcard in a file called Music. On the stock ROM music player they show up just fine.
I also am having an issue with both not letting me use my voice mail properly, I have found the VVM zip and this only solves part of the issue for me. I still don't get proper notification of new messages. Instead I am getting two or more messages from 9016 for each new voice mail.
Any one point me towards a ROM that helps with both of these? Non-sense preferred but not a must. Sorry for being lazy but there are so many ROMs here and trying them all just to test these two things out would be very time consuming and asking these questions in all threads would be very redundant.
Try CM6.

If you mean the nightly, I have and maybe I'm too picky because it isn't themed like the blue froyo is. It also has these two issues I'm asking about so that won't help.
Anyone else have a suggestion for me?
You may need to reformat your SD card. There's really no reason it wouldn't play files from a "Music" folder unless it's having trouble reading the SD card somehow. Try reformatting the SD card (after backing up everything on it) and then reload all the files on it and try again.
As for the voicemail thing, on any AOSP-based ROM (DD, CM) those notifications from 9016 won't go away....it's kinda how android tells the Sprint VVM that a voicemail has been received, but to my knowledge no one has figured out how to disable those texts from coming in. Using Handcent SMS (an app from the market), you can supposedly blacklist the 9016 number but I'm not sure if that's a complete fix because I've never tried it myself. Most or even all Sense-based ROMs don't get that text.

Thanx I'll try that when I get home as I'm at work right now. Strange that all sense roms I've tried see my music fine but not these two which of course are my favorites. Came from a moment so sense is weird to me.
The voicemail thing I guess I'll learn to live with as I'm reserving an epic tomorrow @ RS.

Edit: ever have one of those moments where you say to yourself "why didn't I think of that" ? Well I should have but I feel so stupid I can't even think enough to do that right now...formating the sdcard did the trick....thanx again
Bump...so one of the 9016 messages I got for vvm looks like a command to turn on a notification. Just curious if this has been looked into. Maybe we could get this to work by tweaking the command or maybe the command isn't being ran because the receiving app needs tweaking?

I have seen that one, I am kinda partial to the blue froyo theme but I noticed that the nightly isn't themed. I will try that one out for theming the nightly, thanks. I've played with theming on another phone but haven't quite figured it out yet on the Hero or I'd just make one myself.

flashlight alerts froyo

This is a very cool app that could even be considered an accessability option, it uses the flash to alert for calls & msgs I used it with 2.1 and it even worked on some 2.2 roms also, I dunno maybe his girl won't put up with his devvin but he replied to my email saying he didn't have time to fix it but he will post the code somewhere so somebody else can pick it up... both versions were paid apps (both I bought)
If he sends me a link ill post it...
If somebody happens to fix it let me know ;-)
Bhang
kinda a bump but not really
I haven't heard from the dev and didn't find anything with a quick google, I'm suprised there aren't more deaf/hearing impared people, people working in loud enviroments, etc
It also alerts you to calls from a distance even when you can't hear the ringtone.
Maybe nobody is intrested enough, it worked on a few nightlys but hasent worked for a while now, maybe its an easy fix, but for me its an almost impossible.
Doesn't the powers that oversee android want to add as many accessibility features as possible?

Universal bug on 3.0 messaging app

For the past couple weeks, I've left the comforts of CyanogenMod to venture into the realm of 2.1/3.0 sense roms since they seemed to be close to stable to make one of them my daily rom. Anyway, on EVERY single one I tested, there was a bug in the 3.0 messaging app. Every once in awhile, I would receive a text postmarked an hour later than it actually was. The issue is that when I replied, it would put my response right above the text I just received since my outgoing text would be the correct time. So if this happened a few times in a row, the flow of the conversation would be jumbled. I'm not sure how this happened so I tested it out with my Google Voice account. I'm not sure if this was coincidence or not, but it seemed like it happened either right after turning off the screen or while I was using the phone. I'm guessing it has something to do with how the messaging app deals with the phone's internal clock or something since it's a universal issue and not just found on a couple roms. But I'm not a amazing coder like you guys on here so I have no idea. Hopefully someone can get this fixed.
The roms I've used thus far (the bug is in all of them):
Optimized Shift 2.4 (my main rom)
Synergy RC2
Nil's Business GingerSense 3.0 v1.3
Nil's Business GingerSense 2.1/3.0 v2.3
Incredible 2 ReMix RLS 2.2
Kingdom Stock GingerSense RLS2
Kingdom Rewind 3D RLS3
I posted it here instead of the Q&A because I figured developers should know about this (or whoever it is that ported the 3.0 messaging app) so it can be fixed.
Multiple people have experienced this, and cyanogenmod has had some releases that have done this as well. There is a market app that fixes it, I don't recall the name but it's somewhere along the lines of smsfix or something.

I had this problem a couple times but I didn't pay to much attention... The app that HeliosAI mention is called SMS Time Fix.. and you can get it from the market as he also mentioned...

Were you in central time zone? I never experienced the bug until I traveled from Virginia Beach -> Memphis. Durr, the clock changed on its own. It was on the Pure Speed shift ROM, I reported the bug and basically I was alone 0.0 :'(
Another bug I've noticed is that ever since Sense 2.0, if you have a contact linked to Facebook, their number appears in EVERY. SINGLE. TEXT. Ex:
Bill (M +17575552019): Sure
I call this a bug because, I know who I'm texting, I don't need their number plastered on every single one of their messages, at the very least, HTC needs to move the number to the top. There is no... "sense" in having their number in every text. It also happens if you put email information in contacts. I understand HTC just wants us to know that we know which number we're texting, fair nuff, but who emails with the messaging app?! And on top of that, I've tried de-linking contacts from Friendstream, only for the messaging app to keep showing their number in all their texts whenever I start texting them again -.-
Its amazing that I seem to be the only one who notices this ugly bug.
It seems that no matter what, incoming messages are stamped with Eastern Time .... I was in PST and messages were 3 hours different and now I have moved to CST and messages are 1 hour off. SMS Time Fix will fix this but it does suck that it requires a separate app to do so ....
