Phone staying at 800 mhz the whole time - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i am currently using gr-12 Rom. And i don't use setcpu or voltage control.
However i have been noticing that my phone stays at 800 mhz the entire time...
According to cpu spy. Its 98% 800 mhz... This has been resulting in a very decreased battery life.(about 10hours on standby).
Any solutions?

Using what kernel?

boot into cwm and clear voltage settings.
or USE voltage control and make sure 1000 is enabled.. or wtf is going on and change it manually.
ps and ya what kernel.

I'm just using the kernel that you flash when you flash gr12... I didn't flash any other one..

And any guide on how to use voltage control? I have no idea what to do
UPDATE: I just got voltage control off the market. And it said my kernel is not compatible with it...

Don't know if this is an issue with GB roms, but change your wifi sleep policy to never and see if that helps. I know on froyo there was a bug that caused the phone to stay awake when the wifi sleep policy was set to turn of when the screen was off.

I think GR12 used xcals kernel, and it does not support oc/uv. Thats why voltage control won't work.

I would start watching app. You may have one thats running rampant.
You can flash Talon. Its oc/uv capable.

Well how do you flash another kernal? Just put my phone to download mode and put the kernal on 'pda' section and flash?

Whatever you do don't use "power save"
Phone won't wake in that mode.

I just set it as 100-1200 interactive. Then set a profile when the screens off 100-600 conservative.
As long as the profile is set from 200mhz - (200-1200mhz) the phone won't shut off and you won't have to remove the battery I had this issue on my phone....

That's because you had it set on "ondemand" I had the same exact issue for a long time before I figured out that was the problem. It has something to do with the kernel doesn't support it right with setcpu or something. I read it somewhere on this forum. I've had it set at 100 min for the last 3-4 weeks and it's never not turned on (as long as it ISN'T set for ondemand).
I'll bump this thread to ask a question.
Around the time I installed SetCPU, I noticed a HUGE drop in battery life. To be honest, I'm not sure if SetCPU is the problem, or if I changed something else on the phone and that's the source of my problem. Anyone know anything that I could have changed unknowingly that caused my battery life to suck so hard.
Don't use set cpu if you can avoid it. Sre sets you to 1.2 ghz and unhelpful supplies a script if you are comfortable doing that.
Limiting speed with set cpu had little positive influence. As long as the scalling is working the cpu should idle with the screen off any how. The only situation I would change the clock is during an overheat condition but I'm running without set cpu all together.
If I'm interpreting unhelpful right the next kernel will make use of user space in set cpu and allow many new things including under voltage to save battery and the creation of custom clocks not written into the kernel so you aren't bound to his preferences.

Where can you do that at? Is that where you make your own cpu speeds?
Use NSTools in any ICS ROM with Icy Glitch kernel.

How to.fix charge death?

Try using speedmod's kernels on the link below. They have some kind of charge protection into them that says charge full when battery is like 98% or so full. This avoids getting full charge helping fix charge death.
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880
Edit: Don't worry abt losing that 2%. These kernels are pretty battery efficient and make up for that 2% charge.
I think Designgears posted a work-around solution using SetCPU as well. You might want to search for that thread in the Development forum and see if that works.

Don't use an OC/UV kernel (see diablo009's speedmod link) or try the latest glitterballs kernel which seems to have fixed the charging shutdown problem.
I seriously need an.oc kernal or my phone lags terribly

Don't fret on OC/UV. I have SetiroNs 1.5.6 kernel. Have a quadrant score of 1350+. I used speedmod's kernels, n got a quadrant score of 1350+. None of these use voodoo. Nor do I use UV/OC.
All I did was to flash these, and convert the file systems to EXT4 (by default they are RFS). Do this and u'll find ur phone pretty fast.
Honestly, I think it was a freak thing, happened one night and that was it. Now its working like a.charm! thanks for your input!

What ROM are you running? I run Darky's 8.1 with Speedmod kernel, underclocked to 800MHz (conservative scaling down to 100MHz, no oc/uv), and my Captivate runs smooth as butter, no lag in launcher or apps, over 1200 in Quadrant (over 1300 if I remove the 800MHz cap).

[Q] Overclocking ace with SetCPU?

i got freez on my phone every try i want to overclock it via setcpu,i currently using Grif CM rom, before overclock i flash the OC kernel named ketut, and then installed setCPU.First i was try to set max to 844mhz and min to 122mhz,if i goes up my phone starts to freez after few seconds...i was seen something on youtube that it could be run on 903 mhz even on 940mhz so what's the point?
and sry for the language....
What's the point ?
The point is that all CPUs are different like humans .
Like us people , some can withstand going faster while other cannot .
It's all down to how much the CPU can do
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
Yup. Listen to him.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
point is u need to read a little bit more
You can try a rom based on stock instead of cm7 and try the cf-root OC kernel. Might be the same though.

Going over 844 can cause damage to your CPU. I would recommend not doing so
Yes, people have taken it to 904 and then drained full battery in about half hour.
So, if you're so unhappy, buy a new phone

Hmm weird.. Check CPU Spy because if your CPU is running 100% constant it will generate heat.

The stats are looking normal altho it keeps running pretty much on 1000mhz.
Could you lower the max freq a bit to see if it helps

First off, this should be in Q&A, not general. If you put [Q] in the title, think about where you're posting.
Second, I've had the same thing. Are you using arrrghhh's kernel? What kernel settings do you have set? Are you overclocked/underclocked?
I tried underclocking and it becomes much more frequent. I'm overclocked to 384/max right now to see if it will subside.

Been overclocked for 2 hours, only one crash/reboot a few minutes after overclocking, none since.
