25/5 2011: Changed topic, since a baseband related thread seemed to be missing. I have now put the 502 baseband on my phone, and it seems to be really good.
Installation procedure for Baseband.
Backup phone, use Titanium Backup or My Backup pro and make a nandroid backup in recovery.
Go here and get the baseband and utility to install it.
Format cache/data/system in the Clockworkmod recovery menu - mounts and storage.. Go to advanced and wipe Dalvik Cache and battery stats.. And Fix Permissions.
Now you can either restore your nandroid or install a clean rom..
Okay, so i sit and browse thru all the threads in the LG o2x section, and i start wondering why the discussion suddenly is about baseband in the various topics.. I upgraded to 405, and i have had some issues, i dont know whether they are related to the rom, the baseband or just a plain phone bug..
Issues i have had:
1. GPS wont lock at all.. Or i get lock after 15 minutes, but after reboot GPS refuses to lock again..
2. My Mobile data is very unstable, disconnects constantly and also gives browser freezes..
3. In call sound is very bad, distorsion is high, and sounds like people i talk with i holding a cloth on their microphone..
So, could someone give an explaination to what the baseband does ?

I am using the 1035.21_20110306 baseband and I am having no issues. (CyanogenMod 7 - Nightly). Also, it was V10b from the beginning and still no updates for the phone from LG (Not that I need one).

Okay - i have been using 405 since it was found.. So i'd like to get a hold of the 218, to test it out..
So to whom might find the 218, 306 or whatever they find, please post links in here, and i will try to put them all in first post..
you can get all the basebands from nasihrameds [Firmware] Thread. The archives contain the *.fls files for smartflash.
0218 is included in the earliest UK Firmware for example (and also in the Singtel variants if I remember correctly).

Edit: To answer your question from the Nightly's thread:
The maintainer of the O2X cm_arcee uses the 20110218 baseband, so you can expect a similar expierience to his, and probably avoid bugs he won't fix because they are related to the baseband being different.

Hey thx man - Although they are not extracted.. Is it possible to apply the baseband without it wiping the phone ?
well I don't think downloading and extracting them isn't that much of a hassle
I don't know if the smartflash wipes your phone, as far as I remember mine wasn't wiped BUT, it overwrote my recovery partition (reverted to stock) so I wiped the phone by accident when I tried to get into CWM again ^^.
I guess you could always do a nandroid backup before flashing the baseband to be on the safe side.
Just a heads up, changing the baseband, make nandroid backup first. Baseband formats cache and data patition, so you will reboot onto a clean rom afterwards. Recovery isnt erased though.. Good luck peeps, im now on 218..

So far only positive things to report, but will take a day or two of normal usage to come with a solid conclusion..
since the baseband resides in another location as the ROM, it cannot be flashed using CWM. Smartflash is the only solution so far.

Hello - I tried to search but couldn't really find answers
I got my LGOS some days ago from Ebay.
He used Cyanogenmod but reverted it back to the Stock image "over the settings menu" - whatever that means.
It was still rooted (he said he did it with Gingerbreak) and had Superuser installed. Clockworkmemory is installed, too (I updated it to a newer version with ROMManager now).
It has the 10c firmware - that means unbranded if I understand that right.
I downloaded both RIL tools to figure out which RIL I have - but unfortunately they won't show me my RIL version
"Unknown RIL file found"
Baseband is 1035.21_20110405
Could somebody help me - what should I do next with my device? I think I want to stick with stock for now. Should I do a full revert with NVFlash? Or can I just use it? For the last 2 days I had no crash - it seems to work fine.
I owned a ZTE Blade before and did a lot of flashing (CM7 mostly). Just want to say that I am no total noob - but I am a bit confused with my new smartphone now
Thanks in advance
If it's working and you're happy with it, then don't worry about it.
Hehe thanks - and sorry for not making myself clear enough.
I want to stick with stock because it seems everything is working here. Maybe "stick" isn't the best word - "keep" would be better. I thought of a nandroid backup and then to try out CM7
It bothers me a little that no RIL version is shown - this works normally, doesn't it?
It works by comparing the MD5 of your lge-ril.so file against a list of known ones.
Whatever you have just hasn't been entered into it's database.

Okay, I sent you the email. Thanks
I am still a bit unsure about the way the pre-owner restored the ROM and rooted it.
First - does this apply to the LG 2x, too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108201
It is strongly recommended that you flash clockwork recovery via NVFlash. If for some reason this or a future nightly build causes your phone to not boot up, you will not be able to boot into recovery unless you have it flashed via NVFlash.
To clear up some confusion, if you flashed your recovery via ROM Manager, you didn't actually flash a recovery. It is what we call a fakeflash, you should still probably flash with NVFlash.

Second: Is it correct how he restored the stock rom? He went to "Settings - Privacy - factory data reset" - but had installed CM7 before.
No it doesn't apply to the O2X, ROM Manager flashes properly.
If he did a factory reset, then it's not on stock ROM, just a blank CM7.

I mailed him again - now he clarified it
He reinstalled the ROM with NVFlash a while before he was on CM7 and then deleted all his data via the menu. This explains some remaining stuff & pictures on the internal SD card hehe.
Then it is okay - I just wanted to make sure that he did everything "correctly".
Thank you very mich Rusty for your patience with my noob questions
I had a similar problem when I Installed a 622 baseband, then stock froyo, then cyanogen.
Then I guess I installed the 622 RIL from GB instead of the froyo one and the result was an unknown baseband (in LG GetRIL app), locked sim and no phone network.
Going back to the froyo 622 RIL solved everything.
hi there,
im still new to the o2x (got my phone yesterday) but i is comfortable with flashing android. i used to own a milestone and flashing roms but not KERNELS.
So my prooblem here is that i can never flash a kernel it will either end up in a boot loop or screen will just turn black. M i missing something here?
History;
1)Phone came with GB update yesterday.
2)rooted with the NVflash method.
3)DOwnloaded Rom manager and flash CWR via the app("flash CWR").
3)Then flashed CM7 stable.
p/s: i never flash any baseband, RIL...
I also picked the correct kernel that states for CM7..
and also im using a 8gb sd card.
your advice will be highly appreciated. thank you very muchh!!~
Hello!
Ok, 1st when you come from a stock GB you need to flash a baseband that is woking with CM7 as the stock GB-baseband is not...
Always before flashing format /cache, /system and wipe dalvik.
Install CM7-stable/nightly/KANG
Install gapps
Install kernel
Reboot
1st reboot might end in boot loop - pull battery after a few minutes - then you should be good to go.
If you still have a boot loop recheck everything. Maybe redownload rom or kernel – it might be broken.
thank you very much for your pm and reply. So implanning to revert back to froyo so that i dont need to flash any baseband am i right?. and try again...anyway is ril important?
on a side note, from wwhat i know, u need to flash the baseband that is closest to your country m i right? but im abit confuse after reading the post about baseband because they say certain baseband is better than the others.
Ok im a bit confuse now... so sorry dude...wht do you suggest I do now.. currently im on CM7 stable. just wanna flash the kernel.
1) i wanna revert back to stock to start all over gain. but i dont know which i to choose there r so many to choose..V20, v10 etc..which 1 is for CM7?...
**my aim is cm7 stable with [CM7 KERNEL][Dec12-REBASEv2] ironkrnL -- vork's bastard stepson**
2) i should flash baseband after this rite?..same prob...which 1 to choose?
lets say i flash this BIN_LGP990AT-00-V20e-ESA-XXX-OCT-28-2011+0.zip. can i just flash any random baseband or it needs to be in the same category'??
thank you very much for your advice...
MY GOAL: stable CM7 + ironkrnL -- vork's bastard stepson
ok heres an update...i reverted back to stock...
Android version:2.3.4
baseband: 1035.21_20110225 (does this mean that it is 0725?)
kernel version: 2.6.32.9
build number: GRJ22
LGE version: LGP990-V20e
it is based on the stock firmware:
BIN_LGP990AT-00-V20e-ESA-XXX-OCT-28-2011+0.zip
1)So my plan is, Im gonna root it with this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
(w busy box installed)
2)then im gonna download Rom Manager from market and install CWM from the app.
3) after this im gonna backup the whole rom and start flashing bbaseband (which i dont know which i too choose yet rite now. after much reading, some say the 0218 is good for CM7 stable so im gonna use that.
4) ill be wiping everything (data/cache/dalvik) and flash 1) CM7 stable 2) Google apps 3) the target kernel accordingly.
let see how it goes.I hope i ll be right this time...
that kernel was very unstable for me, had tons of reboots and bootloops . maybe try an other kernel if it doesnt work.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
use vorkkernel if iron kernel gives you reboot and bootloop
why don't use nvflash recovery from paul obrien.
Code:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/335474-25-mar-nvflash-stock-rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15032011/
don't forget to install get ril app
Thanks for your reply. Yeah..i only had the chance to use nvflash once. After i flash cm7 , i have to press both volme up and down and usb instead of just pressing volume down and usb. Because of that i m always stuck at "nvflash started"
at last...i had nvflash working....thank the gods!....It appears tht u have to keep on trying until u it works for nvflash to execute..(I was stuck a " nvflash started ").
so heres a question. what baseband is usable for CM7 stable?..
after i flashed the based, basically i just hav to get the app get ril and im done for the first stage right?

Hello!
Any baseband compatible with Froyo is working with CM7.
I would use 0725 or 0823 some people recommend 0622 - they say it has least battery drainage...
For me personally 0823 works best since it gives me better reception indoors, which is far more important than battery life (at least to me ).
But you might have to do your own tests, since this might be influenced by factors like Provider and personal profile of usage.
I would recommend you start with 0725.
The best guide is this German one…
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/lg_op...-lg_optimus_speed_p990_aktuelle_baseband.html
English How-Tos are here…
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
I would say download baseband from 23.08.11(BB 0823) or 25.07.2011(BB 0725) from the German page at handy-faq.de and follow the English How-To.
The baseband Zipfile from Version 0823 contains 4 files – flash them in descending order of size. Baseband 0725 is only one file – this might be easier…
After this boot back to recovery install CM7, install gapps and kernel if needed…
Get GetRIL from the market (you could place this on you SD-card before) or LG RIL Version and download/install the corresponding RIL-Version…
Then reboot and you should be good to go…
...and BTW: I wouldn't use CM7 stable since this is rather old now and since its release there have been a vast amount of bug fixes and new features added.
I would go for the latest KANGs (see my sig.).
A2DP Bluetooth support for instance is now perfect. My phone connects to my cars radio and build in hands free unit without glitches, whenever Bluetooth is activated– that didn’t work with CM7 stable! Audio streaming works perfectly etc.
And if you want to save one step and you are planning in flashing a stock rom 1st because you fell your phone is messed up – use a froyo based rom 10d or something and you don’t need to flash a new baseband…
…and yes to have a corresponding RIL is important since a matching BB/RIL compo makes reception better and helps prevent glitches and crashes – but installing a corresponding/matching RIL is easy (see above).
thanks alot.... im now using 0622 (ginger) with the compatible 0622 ril based on LG getRil. what i did was i flash a froyo rom with nvflash. then flash baseband with smartflash tool. then i flash cm7. everything was right until....the kernel part...i downloaded the the vorkkernel app and downloaded the kernel from there. Still no success in flashing the kernel..the screen will just go black and continue that way...sigH~..i wonder what is the problem...
i ll try the kang in your signiture..Im sleepless for ddays because of this kernel..
P/S; iwonder why i cant wipe dalvik cache. it says "E:unknown volume for path [sd-ext]"
Hello!
Again gingerbread based basebands aren’t compatible with CM7 - they might work at first but you get loss of signal, crashes etc.
No need to flash new baseband when you come from a froyo based rom!
I wouldn’t use vorkkernel since it is to old – use ironkrnL.
CM7 stable is very old – use latest KANG.

Use either no ramhack version or 32MB ramhack version (but reboot won't work 32MB hack - but it is faster).
Wouln't use higher ramhack version since some things like camera or video recording certain games etc won't work anymore.
Best compromise for me is the 32MB hack since these extra 32MB speed up things considerably and only reboot doesn’t work – I can do without it. Shut down and then reboot isn’t that bad.
mr medicineman...u really made my day...i would like to elaborate more but let me digest what u have said first..will cme back later for some credits and how u helped me solve it..

yes it's normal. i do flash 2507 froyo baseband and ril
Hello!
This depends on the version of ROM you flash...
i.e. v10d Euro open contains BB/RIL 0725 - if you flash something older you might get an older BB.
But 0622 is fine - it is even recommend by certain forums because some people report better battery life with it compared to the newer BBs – so if your reception is ok with that, no need to change it.
I have a few questions about Baseband/RIL. I am currently running CM9 by Owain and have baseband version 1035.21_20110725. Everything is working fine (3G etc), just battery life is quite bad as mentioned below.
I have heard that the baseband and RIL should match or something like that, is that true? and this may also improve reception/battery life or something?
Does RIL change with every different ROM and baseband stays the same? If so, should I change baseband or RIL?
What do these actually do and what effect do they have and can changing them cause problems to your phone like bricking or anything?
Also, my battery life while using the phone seems to be quite horrible (about 2m for 1%, with only wifi on) and I am not sure why, on idle there is not problem, is this normal?
Baseband and Ril shd match to get the most effective signal...
Baseband can only be change thru nvflash.
Ril can be change thru rom change, update ril or getril app found in the mkt.
Cant recommend on a single most best baseband and ril match becoz it based on network location and provider. U need to experiment to get the most ideal for ur signal, download speed, call quality, battery life.
ur battery life is pretty decent. toggle to 2g if no usage to prolong battery life
Should I be changing the baseband or the RIL though to match the other and how exactly do you change the baseband, links to nvflash or a tutorial or something?
Get the app GetRIL from the market, the app will purpose you the RIL corresponding to the baseband you got.
Like darrenxes said, the best baseband will depend on your provider, you have to test the one which suit the best, you can flash the baseband through smartflash. But be sure you run a Nandroid backup before flashing the new baseband.
I'm testing the BB420 with RIL1120 on Owain CM9 Build 58 / Harsh Kernel and it runs smooth, signal is great, GPS fix is quick, and battery life is great when toggled in 2G.
use getril to match ur baseband first.

Yea I also want to know whether a nandroid backup actually restored the previous baseband or not.
Also, so basically first I should try getril from market and match the ril with my baseband and then if i am not getting good reception with that, then try flashing different basebands?
Hello, I have tried it out and no, performing a nandroid restore does not restore the previous baseband.
I have this weird problem with reception. Normally my phone has pretty good reception, with alright 3g etc, but sometimes when i look at my phone it just has no service. When I reboot the phone, reception seems to come back and sometimes even without rebooting it seems to come back. I have no idea why that is? Could this be because of baseband/ril or would it be something else as I seem to have decent reception most of the time?
Nandroid backup cannot restore baseband.
Try this for network drop
Uncheck automatic network time
Install clocksync from playstore. Use this app to auto sync time
Set to auto GSM/wcdma
Works for me.

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here, but I do understand a thing or two in computers, software, devices etc.
I want to tell you my story with the device (for future users experiencing the same problems in the future) and also ask a question in the end.
So...
Yesterday, I received from Ebay a used KU5900 (It was described as LG Optimus Black p970).
I got it with v10r firmware (which is in korean/english and has lots of korean stock apps).
And also, while browsing in the settings area I discovered that this model has an extra of ~ 6 GB "internal sd-card" (which is not available on the p970).
So, obviously, I wanted to get rid of the stock apps, update to a nice newer ROM, keep the internal sd-card and make myself a kick-ass phone.
I've read probably about 20-30 threads in this forum to understand the process of rooting, flashing, etc.
I rooted it (gingerbreak doesn't work on v10r, neither does unlockroot, so only blackjack worked).
when I upgraded to CM7 (without backuping first), the internal SD card support was gone.
So, sadly, I flashed it again to a stock v10a ROM (for LG P970).
Then, something even worse happened:
The phone didn't connect to networks, the "airplane-mode" got stuck for ages when clicking it, and it seemed that non of the connectivities of the phone worked correctly.
I searched even further and read about the baseband issue... p970 and KU5900 may look alike, and act alike, but their "modems" are different.
So, I downloaded V30J from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868405 and flashed again using smartflash and KDZ converter to fls,bin (it was already 1-2am and I was on a 6 hour run), just to see the phone getting stuck on LG logo and not booting anymore.
Today, I kept reading, and hoped to find a decent ROM (for KU5900 ofcourse, in order to make the baseband and modems work), found this one:
V30i_00 - which is currently still downloading and takes ages...
Meanwhile i had an idea - I had the stock v10a (europe) which did work (boot) but didn't connect (baseband didn't match) and the v30j
(which was for KU5900 but got me stuck on the logo screen), so I flashed again... took the *.bin from v10a (the bin is like the ROM data and program data I guess) and the *.fls from v30j (the fls is containing the baseband data) and whoa! I had an europe version which worked and also connected and everything... also, not much stock apps. The only problem is that this version (probably because it was built for the p970) doesn't recognize the internal SD-card... which is a big waste.
So until here, I managed to get "solo". The only thing left is to ask if anyone knows what is needed to do in order to recognize the SD-card?
Also, is there a version for KU5900 which is all in one? (working when flashing, supports the baseband, supports the SD-card, up-to-date, and not with tons of stock korean apps)?
Hopefully my little experience which I've shared here will help future users of the KU5900 (which is quite poorly documented, in English at least).
Thanks,
Shay

Your problem is rather easy to solve (at least I hope so). First download the v30 ROM you want, then download the manual version of bin extractor (dont take the automated version, since it doesnt work with such big files), then you ll get a lot of 0.....bin, 1....bin files. Rename them to 00 and 01,... then proceed with the process given in the thread. Otherwise the tool will add the files up in a wrong order and thus you get a bootloop. Once your done, just flash it (make a backup before, just to be on the safe side) and you should have official ICS on your KU OH and dont forget to inject cwm of course

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. Could you refer me to the "manual extractor" you were talking about?
Thanks.

Doesnt work with files from KU5900, because they are too big.
here is the thread of the manual version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566532
You need to read the thread, dont remember how to use it, but it was something like lgextracttool.exe -kdz file.kdz
then lgextracttool.exe -wdb file.wbd, but dont really remember, read it in the thread

K. Sorry
Thanks for the quick responses, I appreciate it.
Tried to extract V30J to *.fls,*.bin as you said, worked fine, Phone booted, everything worked as a charm.
Now of-course there's only the issue of the stock apps.
Tried again to extract V30J and patch it (using the same method like the automatic tool just with correct ordering of the [1][2] bins.
The phone booted to LG screen and said "security error".
Is it possible to get to V30J with root (to be able to remove the stock apps)?
Thanks

Use v30i or G, since J has some patches it seems, that keep it from being rooted easily... I think 30I should work

Hi, I've downloaded a 30I version (found it somewhere here), extracted to bin/fls with the manual version and ordered the bin files correctly to create the big bin file. then I injected CWM with the "dd" method and flashed it to the phone using smartflash.
the phone started up to the LG logo and was written "security error".
Any clues?

Anyone?
Thanks.
I have a S3 Mini I8190N, Baseband I8190NXXALL6, on Three Ireland.
I've tried all of Maclaw's CM10.2 roms for the last month, along with some of OliverG96's releases, and none of them show up any network signal for me, and won't let me search for networks, almost as if the rom can't use the hardware radio.
The stock 4.1.2 rom works perfect.
I've tried changing my baseband from I8190NXXALL6 to I8190NXXAMG1, and that made no difference.
(Stock still has perfect signal, Maclaws CM10.2 has no signal at all)
I've also looked through the build.prop files and compared them to the working stock build.prop, but I don't really think tweaks in there will fix this.
Seeing as this possibly could be a hardware issue, is there a file defining what radio hardware my phone has, like /proc/cpuinfo does for the cpu?
Anyone have suggestions on how i could fix (or help fix) this issue?
I can test suggestions and provide logcats if anyone requires?
EDIT:
Problem solved! seems there were some issues with my modemfs, and golden-guy's suggested fix here worked.
did you make a clean or dirty install?
if dirty try a clean install.
Same bug here and also Oliver96 has the same problem s.s

I've tried a dirty install, a clean (factory reset) install, and I've even went into ODIN, flashed a complete stock rom, TWRP, and then put CM10.2 on after that with a factory reset.

Do you also have an I8190N? I'm trying to work out if its a hardware thing (like maybe we have a different hardware revision) or if its something we can actually fix. Is OliverG96 trying to solve this or is he just working on having a working rom for the majority?
same problem
i have got the same problem too.
got back to original samsung firmware und stock recovery... nothing
i am from germany und tried out any available basebands... nothing
on any stock, theres no problem, but if i want to get some roms e.g. from maclaw.pl i cant get signal at all
greez

No, I have the I8190 normal version like OliverG96, and I don't know if he is working on a fix.
The strange thing is some users have the bug and some users not.
Also I have this bug with paranoid rom, pac rom and aokp.
On the contrary with Dmod v6 I don't have any issue, probably because it is based on official firmware, I don't know sincerly.

i also think that the problem doesnt come up when u are using any rom which is based on stock firmware.
any custom rom which is using its own firmware doesnt get any signal
btw.: i am in the net of telco (o2)

Hi, i also use O2 (directly) and had never problems with any CM-ROM of Maclaw.
You checked the APN??? Maybe you have to use a different one.
build.prop tweaks
Did some of you already try adding/tweaking some attributes in /system/build.prop?
There are quite some available to get better signal:
persist.cust.tel.eons=1
ro.config.hw_fast_dormancy=1
I did not try these myself, as I don't have any RIL issues, so use them at your own risk. Reboot afterwards for the changes to apply.

Hi
There was similar problem with SGS1 long ago, it was caused by wrong IMEI. Check your IMEI with stock ROM and then with CM rom.
hey there, i looked up my imei with *#06# and got two different results.
the aokp custom rom shows me the same imei as the stock. but at stock, i get additionally "/ 01" at the end of the imei. the custom rom doesnt show this

I compared the maclaw 10.2 build.prop with my own functioning stock build.prop and changed most of the attributes about with no luck. I've also tried both those suggested options, but they seem to be more for improving signal strength rather than actually getting a signal, I didn't see any changes using them.

Like mausdefekt, I get two slightly different results from *#06#.
My IMEI matches up, but when i'm running a non-stock based rom, my IMEI SV is 00 for some reason.
Guys, just back up your EFS partition and restore after you flash CM roms. You wouldn't have this kind of problems if you were using TWRP you know.

Ive tried that too, no difference. Also tried it with factorymode set both on and off.
I'm using Maclaw's TWRP 2.6.3.0 with kitkat support atm, I've never used any non-TWRP recovery.

Hey,
I am running CM-10.2 on my S3 Mini (Oliver's cm-10.2-20131116-UNOFFICIAL-golden) and RIL is working just fine. So I would not think that there is a general issue with RIL on custom ROMs. Rather, the way how you switch from stock to custom might have an impact on RIL...
You could try going back to stock, verify RIL is working again as expected and then start flashing anew following my approach using heimdall: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537520
Since when I switched from stock to custom, I exactly did that. And I never had any issue with RIL on any custom ROM I have installed since then - which was basically all versions since the 20130928 release.
Cannot tell if that works out for you, but it's definitely worth a try
Btw, I did not check the additional "/01" in the IMEI output when I was still on stock. Running custom I get the very same output - just the IMEI, without this suffix. In the "about phone" section, the relevant IMEI SV entry does read "01" for me.
I wonder if your cellphone is SIM-locked...
hi
i've a similar issue:
tried all maclow roms (4.1 and 4.2), in standby no network signal.
When I plug the phone to AC all works fine, in standby without AC no network signal.
I've tried setcpu to raise min. cpu to 1ghz, nothing.
What's wrong? On AC all works fine!

I factory reset, flashed back to complete stock I8190NXXALL6 (it's 4.1.2) using ODIN, and everything worked perfect. From there I followed your guide to flash CWM recovery, then flashed maclaw's cm 10.2 (20131123) but I still had the same RIL issue.
Then I tried flash the stock rom with heimdall instead of ODIN initially and then follow your guide, same result.
Then I downloaded the odin version of maclaw's CM 10.2 (20131122) and flashed it directly with heimdall. same result.
After that, I took apart both the stock and odin cm 10.2 versions, and tried use heimdall to flash a hybrid version of the two:
Stock: STEboot1.img, STEboot2.img, Modem.bin
CM10.2: boot.img, system.img, recovery.img
Still had no signal at all, so I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 recovery and restored back to my usual stock-based backup.

I checked (borrowed an o2.ie sim from a roommate) and it is network-locked to Three Ireland, but with my last phone (Samsung Galaxy Spica - I5700) it didn't affect using custom roms so I honestly didn't consider that... Do you think my problem could be that my device is network locked? Would that really cause this?

I just tried to see if i'd get any sort of signal on maclaw roms by plugging my phone into AC... no joy for me there either
Does it have signal if its plugged in then the phone is turned on, or can you get signal at any time just by plugging into AC? like:
*Turn on phone* > standby (on battery) - no signal > *plug into AC* > standby (on AC) - signal > *unplug AC* > standby (on battery) - no signal
Sounds like your problem could be more hardware based than mine? something to do with voltages possibly? I'm really not sure what to suggest.

The thing is, that operators and brands, on earlier devices, put some limitations on the devices. For example, if you buy a Sony smartphone from 2011 and forward that is SIM-locked, you won't be able to flash any custom kernel at all. Can someone with the same problem confirm that their phones are SIM-locked?

So assuming thats the issue, would getting a network unlock code allow me to use custom kernels and roms?
