Installed [ROM] Rock Steady CM7, worked great... Until I rebooted - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed it, it did great, I restored everything from Titanium, rebooted, and now it will never stop booting. Just doing the HTC with the green indicator "with HTC Sense" on the bottom, and it's doing it for 30 minutes. I brought it into recovery and wiped the cache, and the Dalvik, still the same. I cant get it to a home screen to try laying another rom over it. Any ideas?

try a factory wipe

OK, I'll try it. Thanks for the quick help.

Sweet man, that did it. Although it killed everything. Should I just try installing another flavor of 2.3? What would you recommend?

All I know of is aosp's asopcmmod or cm nightly. There was probably something in titanium backup that messed it up, you can restore most of your downloaded apps, just keep away from restoring any system apps or associated data.

Ah, I did do that. That makes sense to leave the system data behind. Thanks Again!

also the rocksteady rom i would never recocmend because the op is gone and when he made alll his "tweaks" it broke alot of the code from cyanogenmod.
i would definitly recocmend a cm7 nighlty and if u want the sense look that bad just instsall a sense theme for adw from the market.

Or NTSense for the theme engine. It is pretty!

ntsense is what kifno originaly copied anyway, and it was much better before he screwed everything up.

I'm told the "tweak" wasn't included in this rom. However, I'm frowning upon this thread because it is promoting a rom that is no longer supported and a rom that is one of the biggest KANGS ever!
People, stop using Rocksteady!

Ok, I installed the last stable Cyanogen 7.0.3. It works fine, but its force closing messages. I checked the cache, and its clean. Now it will bring up the list of all contacts in the msg screen, but once I choose a contact, it force closes trying to open the msg log for that contact.

Be brave. Join us over at the nightly thread. ^_^

Hehe, I may be pulled into deeper water shortly, but just getting started and getting used to rooting and flashing. Thanks so much to everyone who helps everyone else each day. VERY helpful forum guys. If you ever need any tips on burning Vegetable Oil in a Diesel engine, msg me, that's my expertise.

That's fixed in the nightlies.

Ah, OK. Well, I may do that in a bit. I pulled down Handcent, and that seems to have addressed the symptoms I had. Thanks again people!!

Correction, Handcent DID allow me to view messages, but a few minutes after I sent a msg, I got a notice that it never sent. Hmm.

Would the fact that this distribution is for a Sprint phone, but mine is an Ntelos? As far as i know Ntelos is pretty much a clone of Sprint, and is a parent company in a few ways over Ntelos.

Well I answered it! Haha I might be able to help you out here too.
I recently encountered a problem with Super User not connecting to anything, and what I did was just re-flash the ROM right on top of what was already running. It won't wipe anything, besides a theme, and it also works by re-installing the stock apps. Data is never lost, but sometimes it resolves problems within apps.
What it sounds like is that your IM app isn't connecting to data services. Try all EDGE/3G/WiFi connections. If that's a no go, re-install the app with a re-flash of the ROM. If that STILL doesn't work, wipe and re-flash.
Let me know how that goes :]

Alright, cool. Personally, I would give up on the Stock app and switch to one of the other countless IM apps on the market, because they're constantly updated and quite frequently have more features to offer, but that's just my opinion :].

You won't be able to get it from the market, but you can unzip any build with it in it and drop the app on your SD card and install with an App manager program.
That's odd, you might want to try re-installing the app then :].

New posts should go to Koush's CM6 thread. Mods, please close.

Quick question regarding the facebook sync. By reading your summary of the facebook, i wonder if i have a different issue. When i go to accounts and sync, when i click add then facebook. It just goes back to accounts page. Does not even let me enter facebook information. However i am able to use the facebook app.
Is this the bug your referring to, or am i experiencing something different?

Ok, thanks for clarifying. In your summary might want to put something regarding "Unable to add to accounts & sync" , just for others that might be curious.
Wireless tethering worked for me, i just installed the one provided in the 10minute root video again after CM6 was installed. Then tested it and it worked fine. I also have Hydra Rom for stock speed undervoted with wireless N. Noticed when i did tethering it only connected to my laptop in G mode, however i am able to connect to my router in strictly wireless N broadcast.
Had this problem last night which forced me to revert back to stock firmware.
I plugged in my phone to charge at 11 PM. Then at 12.30 ish AM, i heard my phone vibrating. I looked and it rebooted. So i let it be, then few minutes later I heard it again. Then I decided to revert back to Stock.
Thinking that it was maybe caused when charging the battery. That the batt got 100% then rebooted? Not quite sure.
I can test again if needed.
Good idea.
Thanks!
You are most welcome!
Thank You very much
what time is the nightly build and what time standard/zone?
i would love to try this but cant without bluetooth and am hoping it makes it into the next build. in my state they are cracking down on using your cell phone without a handsfree and giving big tickets to make up for budget shortfalls. so i need bluetooth. (i am too deaf for speakerphone, especially on the incredible, its not that loud)
i am excited, especially now i am 90% sure i am keeping the DINC now that the DX is officially going to be a ***** to root and no roms looks likely. and i dont know why blogs that pimp the phone keep saying "root is still inevitable" but i dont agree with that, if you cant get into the boot loader we would have never rooted the incredible and it only makes sense motorola has locked down the backflip root methods and made sure rooting will also be hard.
i just really want a bigger screen and a fast gpu, other than that, the DINC is the best.

and nice, based on your answer on the first post, we have a new build as of a couple hours ago, anyone running it yet? anyone have a revised bug list? should we discuss that here or in the other thread?
It would appear that the incredible has been removed from the buildbot cycle as of the latest build. A version was built today (check the dates) but looking here: http://buildbot.teamdouche.net/tgrid it's no longer listed
I hit check for update on the rom in Rom Manager, but it didnt say there was new rom. The last one under nightly builds in rom manager still has same time stamp as one i got last night.

if you clear download cache and redownload it should be newer, someone posted the repo and it clearly showed a date and time of today even though the file name still said 7-8 or 7-9 on it the time and date were 7-10 unless it was mirrored then or osmething.

The filename doesn't change. Just clear the download cache in ROM manager and then choose download ROM, reinstall as usual. I guarantee its a different file. Updating OP with what my current build version shows.
Sometimes download of apps in market just stalls.
Some apps fail to install. (android-vnc)
Sometimes screen doesn't register touches until rotated.

Deleted the CM6 zip file from the sd card, then redownloaded the nightly build. Installed and noticed the rom version now has 7/11 as the date instead of the zip files number. So thats good. I see you crossed out the green light while charging bug. Thats only difference i have noticed thats been fixed.
I really hope they are concentrating on Facebook, Camera, GPS bug the most. Thats the biggest deal breaker for most i know.

Sprint hero sends but won't receive texts?

I have a rooted sprint hero running aosp mod (latest stable, not gingerbread - don't remember the version number). Up until Sunday everything was working fine. Sunday evening I noticed that I hadn't gotten any texts all day (highly unusual). Started to text my fiancée, didn't recieve a response. Called her a couple hours later, she said she'd recieved them and replied. I figured it was a sprint issue and would pass by the next day. Next day, still nothing. Stood next to a friend of mine, had him text me, nothing. Sent him a text and he received it almost instantly. As of today I still can't recieve texts, though everything else works just fine. Is this a simple software issue on my end that can be fixed by reflashing my rom? Or is it something more serious that I need to see a sprinnt Rep for? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I saw a guy have this issue with cyanogenmod. He ended up flashing a different rom and all his texts came through at once then. He was using the nightly releases, so I think he just waited until the next nightly came out. You might should just reflash and see if that helps.
This is a common issue. Usually it is due to deleting the stock messaging app because you have handcent or chomp, but those apps pull the info from the stock sms app, so if you deleted it, reinstall it. The other cause is just a known bug in froyo, and though I have never had the issue, many many others have been able to fix it by going into recovery, nandroiding your current setup, wipe EVERYTHING, flash a sense rom, go into settings and update your profile and PRL, then open texts up (you should get a bunch), then going back into recovery, wipe everything again, and restore your nand. Hope this fixes it, good luck.
Sounds good, I'll give it a shot when I get off work. Does it matter what sense rom I flash? More specifically, can I just use an ruu from HTC.com or will I lose my root?

RUU takes longer. also, dpending on how you rooted you will probably lose root. just run ANY sense based rom (custom too), fresh,NFX,liquid, whatever, it'll only take like 5-10 minutes. Also, just a hint, make a nand of the sense rom before you go back to your current one, that way you can update your profile/PRL whenever you want. I keep a sense NFX rom in my nand folder for just that.
Or you can wait till I release an updated dualboot script and have both easily accessible. Should be released this week.
Oh, and like some others said, its a problem with froyo and some phones. You might look in the froyo sense thread and try the fix listed in the first post.

You're awesome. Followed your advice, worked perfectly.
However, I'm now having a separate issue (I assume). All physical keys work fine, with the exception of my home key which does absolutely nothing once the phone boots. Is this a related issue? Did I screw up somewhere along the line?

I have heard of this as well. Can't remember the fix, but it sounds rom related. The home key action is in /system/usr/keylayout/heroc-keypad.kl you can also check there? You could try to re-restore the nand again - wipe ALL first. Also, I know most launchers have home key options, make sure those settings look normal. Also maybe go into your launcher app in settings/apps/manage apps and clear the defaults for it, then see if home does anything. IF that doesn't work search for member "appleflap" on xda, he made a hardkey remapper that you can fix/change the function of the home key.
Reflashed the current nand to no avail. Flashed a clean install of aosp, works fine. I can deal with the loss of my settings, I suppose.
Thanks for all of your help, bud.

I am actually having a similar issue, but I am periodically not able to send texts. Receive just fine, but some texts fail over and over.
I am running CM 6.1 stable, and using the default text app. Anyone had this issue?
Sorry about the bump, but I did not feel it necessary to create a new thread after I found this one.
Edit: I totally also recognize this could be something to do with the sprint network as well

I flashed kyle's wild port this morning along with deca's 768 kernel and scaled it to 768/352 ondemand and it has been pretty quick.
The issues I am seeing are duplicate application iconslaces, navigation and books. Also I cannot figure out a way to clear the voicemail notification. I press clear but it stays. Battery pull didn't help.
I can't post to the dev thread. I hope this info helps.

That is a known bug, and a weird one at that, since it works... Your carrier in about phone will show "unknown", and the PRL will show "not ready". Glad you got it though, it's a pretty ROM.

A much more functional market.. and not sure where it went!

Okay, I am confused.. I had installed phiremod miui rom, and wanted to try running cm7.. I did NOT format data, trying to avoid reinstalling most apps(was being lazy), and everything worked fine..
The market looked as it normally does on my phone, the way it does on 2.2+ roms, green, not very nice for a tablet.
Okay, so looking for netflix, and not finding it for the device, I force closed market, wiped data and cache, and fc'd the google framework, wiped data, restarted(a trick to make stock nook color 2.2 see the whole market), restarted..
And the market was different. Black theme. Different layout. Looked like it was tablet optimized. Clicked apps, and it let me pick from editor picks, or scroll the screen left or right, showing me 3 columns of apps listed under free, paid, highest grossing, etc. So many awesome ways of searching for apps, so much nicer.
It was the first TRULY different market I have seen in all my rom-ing days.
I was going to screenshot it and send pics to a buddy(wish I had), but I got sidetracked because cyanogenmod settings weren't working because I didn't wipe the data partition..
I assumed the market was changed with cm7, and I skipped from cm7.0.3 to rc1 on second install, thinking it would come back.. but it hasn't.(Did the same process as before, fc market, wipe, etc, more than once, numerous restarts, everything else I can think of)
So IS it supposed to be different, because I can't find any reference to it no matter how much I google search. It isn't listed as a feature on the miui rom or cm7 rom that I can see, or on any other tablet I can find.
What did I do right/wrong?
I am about to redo the nandroid backup I did when it was like that, and if it is still like that titanium backup the system app, and take screenshots, just in case it is a weird fluke.. but any answers are welcome. I expect it is a feature I was totally unaware of, but if it is, I would like to get it back or enable it somehow..
Sounds like the new market.

Thanks for the quick answer, I am ashamed that all of my searching didn't come up with that, but I never go to that forum.. maybe I should. Restored my backup and took some screenshots for my buddy, but now I am thinking I should delete this thread(since it could have been avoided with better searching).
Here I was all excited, lol.
