[Q] WiFi calling on stock N1? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So apparently Tmo opened up WiFi calling but there's no app for most phones (http://gigaom.com/mobile/on-t-mobile...alls-are-free/).
Has anyone got the standard WiFi calling app working on the N1? Can it be done with a stock 2.3.4 phone? Is root required?
Please do not litter the thread with all the other VOIP possibilities out there, I'm only asking about the T-mobile provided app.

Netalk on the market is Free WiFi ans 3G Call It works Great

Yes, wifi calling is available on the N1, but AFAIK, it can't be done with a stock Android install.
I know that wifi-calling is "almost" enabled on CyanogenMod. I think it is completely ready except for the actual calling app itself. It is something that does need certain settings in the kernel, which I am pretty sure don't exist in the stock kernel. So you are only going to be able to get it with a 3rd party mod.
Here is the link to the app, but you may want to read towards to end to make sure it still works with the current releases of CyanogenMod.

Skype!

Skype for Android has been released on the Android market. Unfortunately, the app does not officially support Galaxy S devices. So some users are experiencing difficulties logging in.
http://briefmobile.com/skype-launches-on-android
I tested the app on my 2.2 Froyo JI6 Captivate and it worked well! Woohoo!
Anyone get it working too? Any problems?
i Just downloaded on 2.1 - for some reason my phone rebooted at 40% during hte download - I have never had this happen and have had the phone since launch day.
No luck signing in right now... will try a few things and report back.
Yes, there is issues with 2.1 (it's noted several times on blog post on skype website). It does work fine on leaked 2.2.
My question though, I used market enabler to download I would guess european version of Skype (I emulated T-Mobile AT). Would that mean that I can make skype calls over 3G in US (since default install in US is limited to Wi-Fi connections only for voice calls). I don't have any contacts online so can not test it.

Hello,
I trying to use the code, but it send me to the market and says that is not available for my location, Can you put the apk here?
Thanks in advance!!

I get a bunch of FC's on mine... sucks.... COG2.2Beta-1.... Anyone with help on this issue?
-Ken
**EDIT NVM, reboot the phone and works great! Also I would turn off automatically start its under settings under profile in Skype
It does not support any LCD Density changes... So use stock LCD density 240 and it works fine... Besides stock, not sure which setting works other than 240 now....
**
I have ji6 2.2 and its says "We're sorry, but that Skype Name does not exist" it does so not sure what the problem is. I have tried over wifi and 3g still no luck
edit*** nevermine it works fine
Works just fine for me. About time we got Skype. The beta sucked.
It's useless in US since works only on Wi-Fi. When I have WiFi connection I usually have better means calling other people then Skype.
Works fine on 3G for me. What are you talking about?

Voice calls? Chat works over 3G.
This is documented limitation for users in US. Call only over WiFi not 3G. No such limitation in other countries. Wondering how they are figuring out where you are.
I haven't been able to test out the voice call yet as nobody is online on my contacts, but chat works. There has to be some kind of a bypass for that 3G limiter...
Sorry for the double post, but I think this may be of interest to everyone. Just found it over in the main android section.

Skype on 3G for US
Edit: It doesn't seem to work on 3G at all even with the modded apk. I just tried to call my sister from the bathroom asking for more TP.
I keep getting can't sign in errors, might just be that I'm on a stock rom though.

Working just fine on 2.2. Didn't work at all on 2.1 though as stated. Skype's site doesn't allow you to download it though (phone is not supported message). Getting it from the market works fine though on 2.2.

Can't even sign in using that.
I do use the skype beta for text chat on my captivate, which is all I need as I have many skype contacts and we text chat often.
Why would it need access to my personal information (contacts...)! No thanks.

[Q] Droidwall

Hello, anyone uses Droidwall? On my stock 2x, it seems to work only for wifi. But for 3G data, even if i don't enable any of the apps, they can still use the network.
Works for me without problems.
I'm using the modaco custom rom

Hi, may I know if your mobile network is always on "3G"? 'cos my network always show "H"... sorry, if it sounds stupid, but am not sure if Droidwall's "3G" means really 3G only.
I have the same problem. Droidwall works only for wifi. I am using 2g, but for HTC Desire all working correctly under the same conditions.
Tested only on Edge (E) but Black List works well on Mobile and Wifi
Black List is not working. I see changes by means of the adb. Iptables is changing but not working. Maybe its because of kernel version? I have 2.6.32.9-mck-r4.
hi. for those who have droidwall working for 3g, are you able to show rule?
i always see this

${IPTABLES} -L -v
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
I suppose all ROM versions are not able to show rules. But it'd be interesting to know. It looks like only two o2x owners have this problem, and it's not depend on ROM version.
Can somebody answer the dohanins question about showing rules in droidwall?
The solution is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12894811&postcount=447
That's great!! Many thanks.

[MOD]Add Wifi Calling for froyo based roms (T-Mobile only)

T-Mobile offers a service of using Wifi to send/receive calls rather than the cellular service. It costs minutes for Pay-as-you-go folks, but is free if you have a plan (at least in the US). The feature shows up as 'Wifi Calling' and automatically updates if you have a Wifi connection. It is really handy if yo have poor cellular reception.
There have been various P509-specific roms here with Wifi-Calling, but they were either based on T-Mobile's 2.2.2 whose performance sucked, or they didn't work for me.
Here is a flashable zip (signed) which should work in amonra and CWM, to add the relevant files and properties to any 2.2 based rom for a P500.
I've been using it on devoid with no issues.
It probably won't work on a gingerbread rom
It definitely won't work if your provider isn't T-Mobile
You should be able to install the zip and be good to go.
For reference these are the manual steps I used to get it working:
install:
system/apps/Kineto.apk
system/lib/libganril.so
system/lib/libkineto.so
system/lib/librilswitch.so
Add this to the end of build.prop
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libril-qc-1.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
None of this is difficult, but finding all the bits and pieces took some time, and the error messages from logcat are next to worthless as far as debugging goes.
The zip does a crude hack to modify build.prop, so you should only install this once per ROM (i.e. install after reflashing a ROM, not if flashing a kernel or another mod).
I originally started this as a question in the general forum, but now that we have a solution, I was advised it probably belongs here. If them mods disagree, please feel free to delete this or that thread:

I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know for sure, but my guess is that we will need different shared-libraries to deal with the updated 2.3 baseband. So my expectation is that we either need to wait for a 2.3update from T-Mobile, or to maybe find anothe LG phone with the same baseband that we could grab the shared-libs from.
Works perfect on devoid froyo final

I've been trying to get TMO wifi calling working all day for my HTC HD2. I'm running a completely stock Desire HD ROM port = Android 2.2.1 w/ Sense 2.1 (CMYLXGO's). Is this ONLY going to work on a P500 or will this work on any 2.2.1 Froyo build?
OK - so I went ahead and flashed it from CWM and it all appeared to go smoothly. It installed and the app is there, but it just sits on "Enabling" once I turn the app on. I've verified that:
1. The three "*.so" files are in the "system/lib" folder
2. The build.prop file was appended and the appropriate code was added to the very end of the build.prop file
But still no love. Any thoughts/help??
For reference, I've tried a newer Gingerbread ROM and the associated TMO Wifi Calling app that's been documented to work and I have WiFi Calling working in that scenario. So I know I have correct setup (right SIM, etc...). The problem is I'm not a huge fan of that ROM and I'd really like to get it working w/ Froyo 2.2.1... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thnx

no. you need to find a gingerbread version. I know there was one in the development section, but it's been taken down.
If anyone has one, please post!
I am looking for this as well for CM7 for my girlfriend when she leaves to study abroad.
I just read this thread....
Can someone help clarify if the .zip file in this thread is the standalone Wifi Calling app or it's a ROM that I need to reflash to my phone in order to use the hacked Wifi Calling app?
I rather not reflash, prefer to stay with the official Android 2.2.2 from T-mobile, so any advice for installing the hacked Wifi Calling app alone is most appreciated.
Thanks! My phone's the Optimus T (P509).

Is this app working?
Ok. I downloaded this hacked Wifi Calling app to my phone (T-mo Optimus T P509 - Android 2.2.2 official / stock)
It unzipped, and presumably placed the files where they needed to go. Rebooted the phone.
I then checked my prepaid balance, and noted it.
Next I made sure Wifi is on and connected. Wifi Calling "blue logo" is also lit up. I used the browser to make sure internet is working on Wifi. All good.
One extra thing I did manually:
I noticed the "Use only 2G networks" setting under "Mobile network settings" is set for 2G and I "UNCHECKED" it. Not sure if causes any anomalies to the Wifi Calling hacked app.
My prepaid balance got reduced after my test call. What's going on?

Alright then. It was my mis-understanding.
I originally thought this modified Wifi Calling app would allow Prepaid users the benefit of free calls when Wifi is present.

I believe this used to be true for those who were on monthly subscription plans, but from what I've heard, it uses minutes for prepaid users.
There are still benefits though, with the main one being better signal coverage. I have also heard that if you are overseas and you use Wi-fi calling to a US number, you will still be charged at the normal domestic rate instead of paying international roaming.
Do we know if there is a version of this out for Android 2.3 yet?

Do any of the ROM's include a working WiFi hotspot APK? Or is there a tweak to get it working? I am unlocked, and rooted still on stock ROM.
Thank You.

We should be able to rip stuff from the international images. Came here hoping someone had already done it.
Having issues with the Media Link HD, because it won't pair without either a wifi router or hotspot mode.

[Q] Custom ROM and WiFi calling

Is the WiFi calling feature part of TouchWiz? If not, is there any way to extract it and use it with AOSP ROM? I REALLY want to run some of the killer Lollipop ROMS, but I need the WiFi feature. Since it is a TMo exclusive, it would seem that the framework for it could be extracted, but then again, I have ZERO experience in attempting something like that.
nope, cant do it at this point

Easy use hangouts. Let's you make wifi calls on any ROM with any carrier. I use it all the time. It works great. It also eliminates the need to have a bunch of minutes.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
is there any payment involved using hangouts to make calls, or are they completely free anywhere?
thanks!
I'm actually more interested in texts over WiFi without changing my contact number to the umpteen million people. I bet I average about 6 minutes in calls, LOL.
