Hi All,
Been pulling my hair out trying to get 2.3.4; got ota but kept getting "assert failed", AccountsandSyncSettings.apk.
Also tried a couple of custom roms 2.3.4 and would not load. Finally did a complete factory restore with PASSIMG.IMG. It immediately went straight to 2.3.4 Gingerbd update but now when I power off and do volume down/power to go into bootloader and go down to Recovery all I get is Triangle with exlamation and little droid. Recovery never comes up. Is there a button sequence to access Recovery from the Triangle screen?
Checked Root Explorer and there is NO: init_recover.rc file.
Thanks for any help.
That's the stock recovery. To see the menu press power and volume up together (power slightly first)...
Thank You, Thank You------worked great!!

hey guys,
as i already wrote i got an issue with my milestone and its recovery mode. Today afternoon i decided to flash a vulnerable recovery on my phone and then try G.O.T. open recovery out for the first time. After flashing the vulnerable recovery I tried to enter recovery mode by pressing camera button while pressing power button and then (when the triangle appears) the camera button with the volume up button (the way its always done to get there). This worked out pretty well and i was able to do a nandroid backup, root my phone and install the G.O.T. theme (just to try sth out). Later i wanted to flash a custom rom to my milestone, but since then i couldnt even enter recovery mode, i'm always stuck at the point where the triangle appears. I pressed camera+volume up for 2 min and nothing happened, even entering "su" and "reboot recovery" from a terminal app didn't work. everything else is working fine, could somebody explain me what i'm doing wrong or how to fix this? thanks a lot in advance!
EDIT: Ok, i'm really sorry for causing any inconvenience, i figured my mistake out by accident. i pressed camera + power, released both when the triangle showed up and pressed camera and then volume up, while it should be the other way around i guess, cuz now it worked out fine...
got same problem, stuck on triangle and no reaction on volumeUP + camera…
bump
Is this for the milestone or the vzw droid they have different systems. i know for the droid its power + X for 10 sec while the M logo is up. Im sorry im not to familiar with the milestone A853
So I wasn't paying a lot of attention while I was flashing to Cyanogen ROM and accidentally hit the update.zip (google apps) before installing Cyogen Mod. I looked up and then looked down then the phone vibrated and it was rebooting.
When the phone loads it attempts to get into a setup mode which just spams a force-close for process.gaps and com.android.setupwizard.
When I hit volume down + power and go into recovery it just gives me the android logo and an exclamation point. I've tried doing clear storage and that doesn't fix the problem. I was consistently getting the Exclamation point in the recovery image from ROM Manager, but going in and flashing to the alternate and back fixed it. I just can't get into the vanilla android OS right now.
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to get out of this loop?
PASSIMG.zip
You can try the passimg method-
1. download a stock image and rename it PASSIMG.zip
2. Place the file on the root of your sd
3. Power off your phone, then turn it on by holding VolDown and pressing Power
*It will start up in HBOOT mode and will prompt you to flash the PASSIMG.zip update
Install a custom recovery first (Amon_ra being my preferred recovery) . Then flash what you want.

This worked. Thanks for the tips! Without this forum people like me, who know only enough to be dangerous, would be totally screwed.
I am currently on android 4.0.4 and have safestrap installed.
This is what i have done:
-unistalled recovery
-backuped root
-temp disabled root
-download JB file
-moved file to root of SD
I tried to boot into stock recovery by holding power button and volume up and down. It brings me to an options screen where i can choose fast boot and recovery and bunch of other things. I scroll down to recovery and press up. My Screen goes black and I wait and the android guy is on screen on his back with red triangle. So with this saying i can get into stock recovery to install JB. The OTA fails for me. Does anyone have an idea what to do? I cant be the only one with this problem.
When you see the android dude on his back, press both volume up & down. This will bring you to recovery screen. Update from there. Good luck. It worked for me.

Trying to update GPE to the latest OTA 5.1.
Unfortunately when I enter stock recovery to flash the OTA I am greeted with "no command" underneath a green robot.
I power down, hold volume down when restarting, into bootloader, select recovery and it loads the above.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I have tried the methods described online, hold volume up and pressing the power button but the no command/robot remains on the recovery screen. I am running a newly flash GPE 5.0.1 stock image.
Anyone have any idea or seen this before. I can get to the bootloader menu and can select recovery, it then boots to a robot and "no command" message.
I have tried holding up volume and pressing power as suggested on other sites, this does nothing. If I keep pressing power the phone just ends up rebooting.
No matter what I do I can enter the recovery menu.
Frsutrating as I wanted to flash an OTA.
Ps. Is this because I am s-off and/or have an unlocked bootloader?

Re-install stock recovery, firmware or RUU then try the OTA update.
@maritimesbob Reflash the right stock recovery from fastboot
Ok, here's where I am at.
I flashed GPE stock 5.0.1 using the conversion method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
As my phone was originally sense based. As this is a stock rom, with stock recovery I thought I should be ok, as it flashes recovery, radio, firmware, system etc,
When accessing recovery I get the robot and no command.
I managed to find a copy of the 5.0.1 gpe stock recovery, and tried flashing that, I appears to have got a little further, now I have the robot with an exclamation mark.
No matter what method of keys, volume up and whatever, I cannot get into recovery to flash an OTA. I was hoping to upgrade to 5.1
Would an unlocked bootloader and being s-off cause recovery to be locked out, if indeed it is locked out?
So as I was trying to root my phone, I noticed that when I went into recovery mode, it now gave me the option for what boot mode I wanted (Recovery, Fastboot, and normal) but when I chose Recovery Mode, it just shows a Android laying on its back with a red triangle warning sign and says "No command". No buttons I push do anything and I end up just holding power until it resets (if I leave it long enough, it reboots on it's own). I've no idea what happened to it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is the stock recovery after the OTA update. They changed it.
I forget, exactly but I think from that screen hold volume either up or down (one of them) and you get stock recovery menu.
