sim unlock app for sgs phones.i used it and it works great! READ THE FRIGGIN INSTRUCTIONS make backups, backup your backups to PC and ext sd card, EVERYWHERE.
Must use method 2, as rogers phones dont have the code stored inside it. method 1 returns FFFFF, must do file swap method.

Root and carrier unlock are different things. Carrier unlock requires a code from your provider.

Would he need to do a carrier unlock even in the case he installs a new ROM on to it? (even the ODIN One-Click stock ROM?)
Sorry, just curious myself!
What he describes is the fact that in 2.1 ROM, carrier unlock code is very easy to extract from the phone (it is not encrypted). But once you flash to any 2.2 ROMs, the unlock code is now encrypted and much difficult to extract but still doable.
Flash back to 2.1 will not give you back the encrypted unlock code. So, it is important that get get the unlock code while still in 2.1 and write it down somewhere.
There are instuctions posted in dev forum about how to extract the encrypted unlock code in 2.2.
Regardless which ROM you are on, your unlock code stays the same unless you flash to a custom ROM that is not properly ported to Captivate and it will likely destroy your IMEI, product code and unlock code.

Ah I see! So much like the CM7 ROM then
So I'm guessing my phone was already unlocked somehow beforehand...
Call ATT, make up some BS about going to Europe on a trip. Tell them you already bought a prepaid sim card for an international carrier and you need the sim unlock code for your phone.

Custom ROM has nothing to do with unlock status.
Exactly, that's what I'm meaning
I've never unlocked my phone, yet it's unlocked.

How do you know it's unlocked? Are you using it on a different carrier than when you first purchased it? Are you using prepaid SIMs in it? That's what carrier unlocking allows. Rooting allows access to the base OS so you can run certain apps and make mods that involve the system. You can be rooted and locked or unlocked and you can be locked or unlocked and not rooted. One has nothing to do with the other.
I never said they had anything to do with each other, I'm much aware of how they both work. I'm both rooted and unlocked (not bound to any carrier, and yes I use prepaid SIMs).

if your phone has root access simply download galaxy s unlock from the market by helroz and run it. it's pretty simple. to know if you have successfully unlock your phone just dial *#7465625# it should should show network lock off. and you"re good to go any carrier sim you want that supports your phone baseband. if you're not at&t way to go....

Wiped Captivate - Need Advice

Hey everyone,
I recently wiped my captivate clean. I have used the Odin one click downloader to take it back to Eclair (JF6) and master clear to clear all the files.
I need advice at this point on. I leave for Spain in 5 days. I need this phone unlocked to use my international sim card. Do I upgrade to 2.2 and work with the fact that the unlock code on 2.2 has been erased? Should I stay with Eclair and use easy unlock and root methods?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
once you unlock your captivate it will be unlocked for good. Having the stock JF6 rom just makes things easier because the unlock code was in plain text in /efs/nv_data.bin and can be easily extracted. Any rom after JF6 had nv.data.bin file encrypted but there are other methods to get the code.
Try using the Galaxy_S Unlock in the app market first to see if that works if not there search the forums for another solution.

I unlocked it and successfully upgraded to 2.2 froyo without losing the lock. This is great news. My only concern is that when I insert the unaccepted sim card (international), won't it request a code or will it not?
Thanks for the help!
not sure about using a sim from spain but i've used and tested my captivate on:
US T-mobile sim
UK T-mobile sim
US Simple Mobile sim
and Hong Kong sims
without any problems.
open up your phones dialer and enter *#7465625#
if you see:
Network Lock [off]
Network Subset Lock [off]
SP Lock [off]
CP Lock [off]
you should be good to go.
Your best bet is to contact whatever provider you will be using while in spain and ask if them if your unlocked phone will work with their sims.
Thanks for your input. I contacted them and they said their sim card WILL work, just going to have a hard time unlocking it. The good thing is I have done that already!
My network lock is [off]. I thought I would still need the code? I suppose not.

[Q] SIM unlock

I might need to change service providers soon because Koodo is just sucking right now. As such, my phone needs to be unlocked. I would be paying Koodo for the service so that I don't have to run the risk of bricking my S5830D (can you even brick a phone while attempting to unlock it?). However, my little Ace is running CM9.1 RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE.
I don't know the SIM unlocking procedure and I was wondering if I would need to flash back Koodo's Stock ROM (where can I get that by the way?) and unroot it to have it unlocked.
I also heard of unlock codes around these forums and was wondering what they were, does Koodo just give me a code that I enter somewhere to SIM unlock? Please give me any information that you can on this matter.
Koodo charges $50 for this service, is there a simple safe and less expensive method to SIM unlock?
Thanks in advance.
I unlocked mine with an app from Google play called Galaxy Ace Unlock, by Helroz. You can find it HERE
It worked like a charm for me, if it doesn't find the code, install Busybox and try again.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try. Busybox is already installed with my ROM and any other installation fails. If it fails and I can't install Busybox, do you have any suggestions?
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548
Is there another easier method to unlocking the phone? this is a lot of work... -.-
With Busybox already in your ROM you should be good to go. The one I posted the link to worked for me so I never had to try any other method. I got 3 codes, and the second one worked. So, yeah, I really don't have any experience with other methods.

Brilliant worked I obtained the code (the same one repeated four times?) I will unlock it when I get the chance. Do you need to be on a stock ROM for the system to read the code?

I don't think so but try it and see... Generally if there's a message to say the phone is locked, there should also be an option to unlock it.

you must purchase a sim-unlock code. S-OFF/supercid/root will not sim-unlock the phone.
you must be as close as possible to 100% stock to use the unlock code. Anyway try it, if id doesn't work then go back to stock and re-enter the unlock code.

Thanks for trying to help me! The issue is, that there is no Unlock Code for this IMEI, I tried 5 differnt suppliers and noone could provide a code.
I guess the reason for that is the device is brand new...

in this case you could try the SIEEMPI method. The HTC ONE isn't listed on that page but many users reported that it works (in this thread)

I tried that, but I get an error when hit SIMLOCK, see screenshot. Also, the Config.dat file isnt there afterwards, tried to push it via adb to /root but it says "Read Only File-System". Am I doing something wrong? Transferred the file via usb on SD-Card and then copied it via ES Explorer to the root folder. Any Clue? Thanks.
Thats the error message.

the procedure is a bit different for the HTC One, you have to copy the .dat file to a fat32 hard drive connected to your phone with a usb Y-cable. take a look at the thread I have linked above, read the last few pages.

help! my M8 didn't ask me about the unlock code

I try to unlock my Sprint M8,I tried T-mobile and AT&T sim card.
But my phone didn't likes youtube video, My phone didn't ask me about the unlock code. It just simply tell me the sim card is Invalid.
I have tried to use the unlock helper to unlock it, but it just unlock the internation lock.
I still want to unlock the domestic carrier lock.
Is it the ROM problem?
My phone use the Android 4.4.3,and it is S-OFF.
Please help me!
If you're trying to unlock your phone to use it on another domestic carrier, you're not going to be able to do that. SIM unlocking will work for international use.
