CWM backup stored where on my SD card? - LG Optimus 2x

I have made a backup of my phone with CWM to my SD card. Now i want to copy that backup to my computer if my phone or SD card is broken.
What file(s) do i need to copy from the SD card and where are they located? I only need the backup file.
Do the backup file need to be copied to the exact same place on a new SD card if my existing phone/SD card gets broken?

on the external sd card under
clockworkmod\backup
And yes it's got to be put back exact or it wont work

Maybe you already know that, but with LG-P990 you need to manually enter on the bootloader (power+vol down) and start your backups/restore. The Rom Manager feature that automates this isn't working on Optimus 2X.

I do all my backups through Rom Manager.

I can make a backup with the ROM Manager but cannot restore with it. It doesnt show up in ROM manager. It does in CWM by the way. Strange.

what do yo mean it does not work? it doesn't back it up? or will perform the backup but restoring from it will make your device unusable?

It's 'cos ROM Manger looks in /sdcard and the actual backups are in /sdcard/_ExternalSD

i checked my Sd card... and back up is in sdcard... i don't have any _externalSD

_ExternalSD is the on the internal SD.

Hi, I had this problem once, you do not have to format your SD card, just go to your sd card, look for the folder nandroid, delete that entire folder. Plug your SD card back into your phone, go to your recovery and try again!

You need to use the right CWM version. The latest CWM (5.0.2.0) provided by ROM manager (see market), for example, uses the external SD as default.
Sorry for hijacking the thread
But how to backup to the internal using CWM5? I cannot even the mount the Internal SD.

What happens if you start CWM with the external SD taken out?
(Do you mean you cannot mount the internal via adb while in CWM?)

There have been a lot of problems with ext file systems on the sd cards and mounting in the recovery. Some claiming it to be unsupported other that it works. Only thing you can do is try to make the partition with different tools. For example mkfs.ext2, gparted, different windows tools etc. Also different sd cards if you have.
Hope it helps.

Yes, you can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1098745.html
If you need v5 you could also try to mount the internal SD manually in CWM via adb shell and the following commands:
umount /sdcard
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /sdcard
^Thanks guys! Its working
Let me try ....
May I know, where to set Ext SD card as default, inside the ClockworkMod Recovery or the Rom Manager inside set it ?
i just bought and installed rom manager from market last night and when i did backup of my current bell 2.3.4 rom, looked on ext sd, not there, thought b/u didn't worklooked on int storage, there it was? how do i change settings to ext... looked for 30min. thank-you for any help
mine saves backups to internal. but only finds backups from external, so I must move files to backup.
My clockwork goes like this
-launch backup from application in use mode, it saves backups on internal
-manually enter recovery and launch backup, it saves on external

Strange Sd card problem

Whenever i Install an gingerbread or cm7 Rom 2.3.7 on my x8,
after it the sd card in the phone is protected against writing, only reading.
The phone dont see the SD card anymore , and on my pc it see the card in my cardreader but i cant copy and paste things from it.
When i directly connect the phone with the sd card in it to my pc via usb, the pc dont see the sd card also.
Then when i flash back to the original Rom, the SD card is back normal like writing and reading and my phone sees the card.
Also i can Copy and paste like normal.
When i flash to froyo pro 24 (2.2.9 android) the phone also see the card like normal.
Looks to me something in 2.3 android versions mess with my SD card and set it on read only...
Does someone know what this could be?
Thnx in advance,
Henk
what sd card do you have? did you try format it?
It is the standard 4gb card that was in the box from the x8.
I install the roms via this sdcard.
I also formatted it but that did not solve the problem.
there is no ''lock''on the card, and after i flash it back to the original stock rom with flashtool it shows the card with no write or read protection.
In android 1.6 ,2.1 and 2.2 till version 2.2.9 i dont have the sd card issues.
I checked mini cm shakira,
herodroid
gx stock
prime hd and 2 other roms based on android 2.3.
Some i reinstalled and full wiped after the installation but that made no difference.
(offcourse i always full wipe/factory before installing the Roms )
In''storage settings it always say:
-total space
unavailable
-Available space
unavailable
-mount Sd card
Insert a sd card for mounting
-erase Sd card
erases all data on the phone Sd card such as music and photos.
(This is the only option that is highlighted and usable, and it erases only files when i tested it, it dont format the card)
I also tried to unlock the read only protection to place the mini sd card in the cardreader but i can't find an option to unlock that protection.
It only shows the files on the card but i cant copy and paste something.
(Both in windows7 and windows xp)
Some of them are on Stock kernel and the mini cm7 on an naa kernel.
(problem with the naa kernel was that i could not update the fix after flashing the rom in xrecovery,
since right after the flash from my sd card to mm7 my sdcard was on read only and write protected........had to reinstall the stock version by flashtool again and install xrecovery again and busybox, rooting, to start after with the flashing of custom roms again.
All of them did something with the sd card that it is read only when i place it in my sd card reader on pc ,and its not visible on the phone.
With some roms i can access the sd card via cwm or xrecovery to flash an rom zip but sometimes it says it cant mount''e'',
which is my sd card.
After i flashed my phone back to stock rom via flashtool, the sd card is visible again on the phone and not read or write protected.
Also on froyo pro 24(android 2.2) i dont have this sd card problem.
Could it be that there is some kind of driver for my sd card so that my phone reconize the sd card?
I really don't know what this issue could be and im stucked on 2.2 now.
you're using 2nd ext partition?
if yes, trying to solve it and boot via cwm and format it using partition sdcard (advance > partition sdcard) you need to backup your data first
if not using 2nd ext partition, try format using this http://hard-disk-low-level-format-tool.software.informer.com/ but i'm not test it yet
maybe u must check and repair your sdcard
1. try with another sdcard
2. make sure if your sdcard format is FAT
or
3. backup your sdcard data to your pc, then format it!
it must be work
Your idea doesnt work

Maybe the ROM doesnt have the necessary drivers. Any idea on how to install them?
Go to following directory via a root explorer app:
Root/system /bin
Find this file:
Fsck_msdos
Delete & Replace with froyopro's disk checker.(same file in froyopro rom)
Yes,this is the file which scan & fix ur sdcard For errors in startup.
This must help u.

[Q] How to format SD Card completely?

I was running rooted stock ICS for Turkey and I installed JB for Germany after it released. When Turkey update for JB released, I moved on it and tried to restore my settings and apps. However when I tried to restore, while Titanium Backup in progress I got the error memory full and couldn't achieve the restore process. I erased backups more than one and tried to do wipes but no solution. I made a clean install again and there were about 1GB space but when I rooted and installed Titanium Backup again, the space decreased to 400MB. I guessed there was a problem about TB and now I decided to run a complete new install.
So my question is how to format SD Card completely? There are a lot of folders about apps and apps that I removed etc. I want them gone and I want my phone as it is on the first day. How can I do that progress? I tried factory reset but it didn't involve SD Card. Everything remains same. How can I erase all the things on SD Card?

If you are on safe kernel then yes you can format your internal sd card. Just go to SETTINGS>STORAGE>FORMAT SDCARD(INTERNAL STORAGE)

question about backups

So, I've gotten good about making backups of everything before flashing another ROM. My question is, where can I access the backups made in CWM recovery so that I can transfer them to my computer in case I need them later?
Inside the clockwork mod folder on your phone.

Personally, I gotta seriously recommend saving your backups to your EXTERNAL SD card. One of our main fixes it to wipe and start over...doing it that way you'll lose whatever is on the phone's internal SD. I went out of my way just to free up 1.6gb of external sd space just for that very reason....1.6 is a lot when you have about 14-15gigs of music and not much more than some apps...got lucky and found some old TB folders .
//Sideloadable backup and recovery would be the shiznizzle.

You're right! I finally found the clockworkmod folder. I didn't realize when I flashed one of the new ROMs that it moved my stuff to /sdcard/0 and found it in there. Moved my backups to my external SD so now I'm golden. Thanks!
I keep a copy of my backups on my PC as well. If my SD card goes bad, I can copy the backups to a new SD card and restore as required.
Always backup to external and keep on hard drive!
