CM7 USB Mounting - App doesn't work? - Nook Color General

I'm using samuelhalff's Nook Color USB Mass Storage utility but it doesn't seem to do anything.
When I plug in my Nook into my PC it says "USB device not recognized". Using the aforementioned app does nothing in Windows when mounting or unmounting SD card or media.
That thread was last updated 2/26 and seems very out of date. Any ideas on how to get this working?
I'm using CM7 Nightly 74.
(I would use SwiFTP to transfer files but I'm going to transfer 16 GB of media to two Nooks for a plane trip tomorrow and doing all that over Wi-Fi would take ages.)

Uuuuggghhh.....I just flashed back to CM7.0.2 to mount so I could grab some crap off my computer at work before I split for the weekend. I sure wish we could get this mounting situation with the new builds fixed.

[Q] Nook Color Honeycomb usb SD card mount?

Hi all,
I have installed Honeycomb on Nook Color working like a charm. Added Market to it using adb skd push through usb cable. When running stock nook I could plug usb cable to computer and internal drive would mount and I could copy files to nook from computer.
Now running honeycomb on SD card when I connect the use the drives show up on compture but they do not mount. Again I was able to connect and push files from computer to nook via adb commands. On my samsung captivate I was having similar problem until I figure out that there was a message in status bar that I would pull down click on and would mount SD cards. Don't seem to have that in honeycomb when connecting usb to computer.
Is there a way that can mount sd card open up in windows explorer and drag and drop files from compture to nook running honeycomb? The android's USB connected notification seems to missing on honeycomb on nookcolor
Any Ideas
Thanks
Greg
I think it's not mounting because you're running from the SDcard. If the card is in use by the system I'm pretty sure android won't let it mount but I could be wrong as I'm not familiar with honeycomb. You could always try pushing the files with adb.
Code:
adb push *filename*
Ok thanks, I will give it a try in mean time. I must be missing something because on phone it i mount internal and external drive. I will have to brush up on the adb command line.
Nook Color USB Mass Storage utility - Mount any partition to your PC
There was a post form samuelhalff in which he developed a NookColorUMS-0.3b.apk that mounts drive. so I will try tonight but in mean time I am not sure of cli adb commands that I should use. where do I push it to on the nook, I am running honeycomb from SD cards
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
I'm running HC from the SD card, and the best way to mount drives is using samuelhalff's mounting utility (since the SD card is partitioned and it supports this!). I believe you must have Superuser available to use it, so below are the links you need to both the app/instructions for the app and for gaining superuser on HC.

Superuser

I've got this working, and can confirm it works like a champ!
Sweeet will give it a try, I read something that sound was not working on HC but the little I have played around with it appears that I am getting some sound. I want to load a mp4 on it see how it plays.
Thanks again
This application was quite easy to use.
1. Plug USB in Nook and connect to PC
2. Open NookColorUMS.
3. Select "Mount Media"
4. Nook Pops up on PC.
Thanks a lot
This app finally made my nook into a full android tablet.

USB connection very problematic [Win7 x64]

I'm having multiple problems connecting my NC to my Win7 PC via USB, particularly from stock 1.2. Every time I connect, Windows attempts to install device drivers, and is successful only half the time, at most. If it successfully mounts the NC as USB storage, it may or may not also mount the SD card (again, maybe half the time).
I also boot CM7 from an SD card using verygreen's size-agnostic image. From there, the connection has been 100% reliable--turn on USB tethering, and both the system and storage partitions get mounted as USB storage.
HOWEVER, plugging in the NC from either OS frequently causes a really odd problem with my external HDD: both the drive and the uppermost layer of the file structure will still be listed in Computer, but click any of those folders and they show as empty. The HDD is also "in use" if I attempt a safe eject, but unplugging the USB and plugging it back in solves the problem.
Are other people running 64-bit Windows 7 having these problems? Any idea what could be causing my PC to get 'confused' about the HDD?

How do I put files onto my sd card that has been made bootable?

I have installed bootable cm7 on my 8gb sd card. It only shows the first partition when I connect it to my computer. I tried connecting my nook color to my computer in both cm7 and stock firmware, but the card isn't readable in either case. In fact when I connected using cm7 it didn't connect at all.
I am trying to put some pictures onto the sd card, but can only get them on the first partition, is there a way to get them on the larger partition?
Enable USB mass storage for the use since it's the only way.
Boot CM7 up, connect NC to PC, look at the NC's notification area, usb icon should be displayed, tap to open then enable USB mass storage.

There is a program developed here on XDA that can mount your micro SD installed CM7 media data partition that you see on your NC but normally can't see when connected to your PC. Normally the pc sees the first partition only (boot). This program will let you also mount your 4th partition on the sd card so that you can add your media files there. Install the program, tell it to mount your 4th partition, and connect your usb cable to the pc. It will show up as a drive letter. You can download the program here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11322639
This is also very useful for those users with ics preview on their micro SD card.
The app had been integrated into CM7 builds so long time ago, no need to install it separately.

I used it on the new ics preview build. It's the first time I had used an SD install, and the usb mount is broken so far so this little app was great.

I am running nightly from 20121227 on a sd card(2GB) on my nook color. Everything is fine except that when I connect it to my pc, I see the nook as MTP device on my pc. I see the SD card with a storage of 180MB only. the nook internal card shows up as full. I do not see the usb in the notification area of the nook. I want to be able to add music/documents to my sd card so I can access them from my nook(when I boot it from sd card).
Thanks

Go to Settings-Storage select 3 dot menu in upper right corner and select Mass Storage. You will then be able to see the nook USB notification.
The nook will show up as a drive on your computer. Use Clockwork Mod Recovery to partition SD card to reclaim space, but with 2gb not much remains for user media (cm10~700mb, ram~512mb, etc).

Tried that. Now when I connect to my PC, I see only one FAT32 partition(boot) and it shows only 180MB size. I do not see any other partition. Do I need to use a larger size card (>2GB) to see the additional partitions.

Take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585572&nocache=1
You may need a higher capacity card if you plan on adding lots of music, books, comics or movies.

See my post above with the link. In cm7 there is a setting to use emmc as sd.
For easy access use a wifi connecting app like WiFi File Explorer Pro; see whole card, quick UL & DL of files.
You can also use debugging over network settings in the ROM and use adb...
The first time you do it do this in a command or terminal window:
adb shell busybox mkdir /sdcard/boot
Then every time you use it to transfer files to the boot partition for flashing:
adb shell busybox mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard/boot
adb push ROMFILENAME /sdcard/boot/DESIREDROMFILENAMEONDEVICE
If you are wanting to transfer files to the "sdcard" partition of the card:
adb push FILE(s) /sdcard/DESTINATIONFOLDER/

Followed those instructions. Still I see only the main partition in windows explorer. Under disk management I see 4 partitions. In my tablet, I see the 180MB partition. Also I see another with .93GB showing up as internal storage. The emmc shows up as another internal storage. Not sure how to get files into it. I am attaching screen shots.
You are only going to see "Windows"file systems (partitions) in Explorer (FAT, NTFS, etc). The other partitions are Linux type partitions (ext, etc...).. Explorer won't see them. Thus the need for ADB.
Personally I sometimes find it easier to place files in Dropbox and then just deal with them on the device rather than through the cable. You will need the Dropbox app on your NC.. available in Play store.
Since CM ROMs have debugging over network support... there's no need for the cable when adb'ing into the device.

[Q] CM9 wifi fix and reading SD card in general

I hate to post but I have been searching through this forum and the net for a few days and cannot find the answer.
I have a NC that I have been running CM7 on for about 5 months ( thank you to everyone who has worked on these programs ). But I saw that CM9 came out and wanted to play.
I installed CM9 and gapps and my NC is working fine except it has no internet. So I saw that there was a fix to change a file using a text editor and that is where I run into problems.
I am running Windows 7 and when I hook up the SD card all I see are 4 files and I cannot see the other folders etc.. I even installed Ubuntu and that showed the SD card as 3 different devices.
So All I need is to find out what progam I need to read the SD card. So that I can configure my internet correctly and add my books and movies onto the SD card.
Thanks for any help on this.
You should not need any fix to connect to the internet wirelessly from CM9 on your nook. There may have been a solution a long, long, long time ago, but out of the box it should be fine now.
What happens when you connect to Wifi? Click on your wifi network after it shows "Connected" and see if it shows an IP address. If so, post it. It should be something like 192.168.x.x

Are you running CM9 on an SD? And are you taking the SD out and putting it in the PC? That what it sounds like with your description.
If you are, the system is acting properly. On an SD install, the SD is partitioned onto four partitions and when you remove the SD and put it in the PC, only partition one can be seen by the PC. That is the boot partition, which normally has only four files in it.
That being said, you do not edit system files that way. You use a root file manager like Root Explorer to do it on the nook itself. I think that file you were talking about was under /system somewhere. (Wifi adhoc or something?)
But I also agree with the last poster that said wifi should work without having to edit system files.

Yes I am running CM9 on a SD card. So what you are telling me is that with the SD card physically in the nook I should have no problem seeing the folders etc. when ii is hooked to my computer by a USB cable. Thanks.
As far as the internet problem I am still having it. I " forget " all the wireless and then hook up to mine and put in the password and it tries to connect but then comes up with " Authentication problem " and cannot hook up. I am running WPA2 and had no problem connecting in CM7.
This is what I found on the net and the date of the post is 5/11/12
"1.Power off your Nook Color
2.Remove the SD card and put it into your computer
3.Navigate to the partition on SD card that contains the “etc” folder
4.Go into “etc/wifi/”
5.Open “tiwan.ini” using any text editor as administrator
6.Find “WifiAdhoc = 1″ and change it to “WifiAdhoc = 0″
7.Save the file and close it (check to be sure your changes saved)
8.Put the SD card back into your Nook and turn it on
9.You can now connect to WPA and WPA2 secured networks"
This is why I was trying to read the folders on the SD card with it plugged into my computer.
is there sometimes a problem using WPA2?
I am using the " generic sd card v1.3 ICS large img.zip " and the nightly I used is " cm-9-encore 20120708-800 open gl " the gapps I am using is " gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip"
One thing I did notice is my NC is listed as a " mobile device " when I hook up to the computer and not as another HD.

No, you do not edit that file with your PC. Whoever posted that stuff was all wrong. You cannot 'navigate to a partition' using a PC (maybe you can with Linux, but not Windows.) You edit it with your nook while it is still in the nook using a root file manager like Root Explorer.
And that 'mobile device' you see is the new protocol that cm9 uses called MTP. It is not a drive letter, but you are still seeing your 'sdcard' and 'emmc'.

No External Storage Available - Cyanogenmod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2

Just downloaded and installed the latest ROM for the HTC Vivid (http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=2343586) which claims to have working camera and internal/external SD storage but I cannot get access to either one. I have formatted my SD card to FAT32 like the FAQ suggests and have swapped out to another SD card - still nothing.
Is there something I'm missing??
ICS labels storage as 'SD card' and 'ext_SD' and in jellybean labels them as sdcard0 and sdcard1.. Try using a file explorer to see if you can access it this way.

I've tried using ASTRO File Manager and I don't get an option to select either internal or external from the menu.
In Dropbox, I get "SD card problem. Your device has no SD card, or you have your phone connected to your computer, so Dropbox won't work properly." even though I don't have it plugged in.
Trying to open a multimedia message sent via SMS will result in "No storage. No external storage available."
Something's up....
Are you on the latest version? I know on the 6.30 build storage did work when I was on it.. Something may been screwed up in the latest build, I would post in the ROM section and see if any one there has the same issue

Try changing the mass storage option to MTP in Settings->Storage->(press menu key)USB Connection Type->MTP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34949219&postcount=2
When I did this I was able to connect my phone to my computer via the USB cable on the 6/29 build and could see directories, but not individual files. However I copied the 7/2 build to the appropriate directory and found it fine on the phone.

I'm using 4.2.2 Unofficial Dirty Unicorn, mass storage option only mounts internal sd on my pc,
thanks for the info to set mass storage option to MTP, it temporarily fix the problem.
Has anyone been able to get to external storage via USB Mass Storage? I can see external on Windows via MTP, but only internal on UMS. When on the stock ROM I would use my phone as music storage for my vehicles. My vehicles can access UMS not MTP for music.
