(
I you don't know what WI-FI issue I'm talking about, it's that after the 2.3 upgrade the device shuts off WI-FI and goes to 3G when the WI-FI signal is low.
So for example, when I used my Incredible S running 2.2 I had a solid, working (albeit low) connection in my bedroom. But now, after the update - the connection shuts down. This affects the Desire S and Desire HD too ofcourse.
)
Anyway, This is the mail I sent to HTC:
Dear HTC
I recently upgraded my Incredible S from 2.2 to 2.3.
Before the update, the phone would hang on to the quite low but useable wi-fi signal in my bedroom, but after the update the wi-fi disconnects and puts the phone on 3G.
My old HTC desire still holds on to the signal fine, whereas my new Incredible S loses it. (both at around -90 dBm)
After a lot of research on forums, I have noted that this is a very common problem, and many people are suffering from poor wi-fi since the 2.3 update. I suggest that you take this problem seriously.
We have localized the problem to a change in rssi threshold to -88 dBm. That is strange as this is a perfectly useable signal strength.
It is suggested that this code "error" is part of a Broadcom driver update, and not HTC's fault
You can find the code snippet here:
https://github.com/LeeDroid-/Ace-2.6.35/blob/master/drivers/net/wireless/bcm4329_204/dhd_cdc.c#L1288
Please forward this mail to your dev tech department, as this needs to change as soon as possible
People expecting an upgrade, actually got a downgrade with gingerbread
yours sincerely

OK, So I reported the Gingerbread WI-FI issue to HTC - It was sent on to some other department - and today I got this reply.
(Yes, That is some weird spelling )
Dear XXX ,
Regarding your question about the change in wifi I have gotten this information for you
Google took the decision that on a low wifi signal the device should switch to 3G. That tresshold is indeed 86 dB. This has past on to Escaltions that the customer does not like it, but we cannot solve his discontent at this moment.
I hope this answer is useful to you.

OK, Great.....
For me, the wifi capability has only increased since the update.. Weird.
I should have read all the posts about the gingerbread OTA upgrade wifi issues before I upgraded. As previously reported it seems to cut off more when the signal is weak. Fortunately I have an unlimited data plan but still like to connect on wifi at home and while traveling... Hope they get this resolved soon.

Hi,
I recently updated to Froyo using the registry hack, i was on uk orange jf3 before.
Since being on it i have constantly been struggling with the 3g and the network signal, at first i thought the 3g was disconnecting when i turned the wifi on but then the network signal starting disappearing and it would show the circle symbol with the diagonal strike through it to show that it was not picking up any networks.
I read somewhere that cycling flight mode might solve the issue, but for some reason once i turn on/off flight mode it just hangs at that stage and will not change until after a restart.
I have also tried formatting both the internal and ext sd cards and i have done a factory reset twice.
Nothing has helped, it connects to 3g initially (which shows that it shouldn't be a setting problem?) and the network signal is also fine initially but then after a short amount of time or inactivity or switching on wifi the 3g won't connect and the network signal just dies.
If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it i would really appreciate it.
Having a phone that can't make or receive calls when i need it to is really f'ing me off.
P.s. I have read and searched other topics for help on this but nothing so far has helped.
Might be something like I have? But I got no reply here...

Yer i read your post, what i don't understand is that it was totally fine in 2.1 and now in 2.2 it's messed up, not sure if that is the same for you?
I think it is something to do with it being for Norwegian users not UK and that somehow affects it.
I have checked the apn and it all seems correct, do you also have the issue with flight mode not working properly?
Just found this on an internet search...
: Samsung Galaxy S v2.2/Froyo update
Posted: 5 days ago in response to: stefan
Some news on the update to Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S. Currently we are making some changes to get it working better when using Orange signal, and are therefore looking to release the update by the end of November – obviously this is a delay on our original release date but we hope it will be worth the wait!
Kind Regards

Not sure exactly what that means but it sure sounds like this might be the problem i am having.
I would be interested to know if other UK orange users have been having problems?
I would also like to know if it is possible for me to go back to to a previous version so i can actually use my phone.
I am orange uk, and have similar problem at home, but works well at office. Maybe it is due to the barrier of signal. if the signal level is lower than this barrier, only emergency call can be.
I do not know how to do but my friend advised me to update the moderm
Hey folks,
It may be my unit but does anyone have this issue that,
It just randomly showed a "cross with grey signal bar" in notification area (which means no signal at all) while I am sitting in midtown buildings with full bar.
If i restart the unit, the issue went away. it is not consistently showing this. but it is very annoying.
I figured it is somehow associated with the "power management" function in new update. But not sure .
Could anyone shed some light on this issue please?
thanks,
i can honestly say that i have a lot of internet issues , just the whole signal period got ****ty
WIFI problems as well
So I admit I am totally new at this. But here is my story and woud love some help before I call Dell and play dumb to get a new one.
I did the update yesterday and soon after my Streak isn't holding the wifi signal. It states that the 2 seperate wireless networks are out of range.
So I tried to do a factory reset with the same results. It will sign on for about 3 seconds and then drops them both.
Any advice would be appreciated.
PS. Anyone gotten this to root. I was not able to with the superoneclick 1.7.
Thanks
Search devrlopment forum, everyone is flashing update with dj's tweak with full root.
After that wifi should be fine .

I see.
Dell ... is sending me a new unit because the support doesnot know what is going on... -____-
So this means a software bug that is not officially recorded will cost the company money....
and give users hassle...
just got the device friday, did the update and having some issues, though none related to wifi or data connectivity. Getting random keyboard and menu bar popups, sometimes 20-30 times in a row.
Talked to t-mobile and they are sending me a new unit.
guess this time around I might want to root and do the custom 2.2.2
Did some speed tests on the app and wifi is great, about 10 down and 2up at home. but 4g right now I'm getting only 2-3 down and maybe .1 up. Already getting a replacement, so maybe I won't update if its and issue.

Got mine last Thursday and just started to have this issue. I noticed it when I'm at work all day using WIFI then I go out to 3g/4g and it would display Full Bars, but not the 3G/4G icon and it won't connect anywhere. The only thing I can do is restart the unit, and once it restarts it pulls a 3G/4G connection.
Running the unit stock with dell upgrade 2.2.2 unrooted. But I upgraded the unit the day I got it, maybe it's an application I installed?

Unfortunately I did some alogcat analysis. Looks like its Huawei radio chip just sleeps(meaning disconnect to the main board) randomly . I was not able to separate the cause of such disconnect.
It is this products "feature". (shame on me by saying that)
Mine does the intermittent up/down thing, too (with several bars of service). So, is this a defective hardware issue? Software issue? "Feature"?
Hi all,
Within the past week or so, I've noticed a fairly large drop in the signal strength from both my wireless lan and 3g signals. With the cell signal, it was even dropping to edge sometimes when I was outside in an area which used to give me full bars. Wireless isn't much better, and it seems to be fluctuating between 4/5 signal and 2/5 signal even though I'm close to my router. Again, I used to have full signal in the same location. Nothing really would have changed.
Yesterday I tried flashing Continuum (2.3.4) instead of running the stock 2.2 that I had before. The 3g signal seems to be *slightly* more consistent, although I'm still not at full bars, whereas I always was before.
Is this a common occurrence? Is it my hardware, and can I fix it myself, or do I need to send it in to Rogers? I've only had the phone for about 6 months now. I wonder if it's under warranty still (assuming I flash back the original ROM and bootloader).
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. It's odd, but the wifi signal almost gets boosted when I'm trying to use the internet, but not to full bars even when I'm near the router.
Bump. Is this the wrong place to ask this question?
Cheers
My AT&T Captivate has similar issues. Mine started about a month ago. I haven't put any effort into figuring out the root cause.
Yeah, I'd really like to figure out what's up though. Does the hardware just crap out after a few months of use? Thanks samsung!

This trend happened with my HTC Aria as well. I don't believe its anything related to Samsung hardware crapping out.
So, if it's software, what would be consistent across a ROM and kernel flash?
I recently fixed a network error effecting call quality by flashing a new modem. I know our issues are different, but since you did flash new ROM i dont think it could hurt.

Stumbled across this article on Toms Hardware today and felt like it was a good read for this thread.

Unfortunately it's not just my wifi that has issues, but 3g as well.

Have you tried flashing a different modem? The one that came with your current rom may be different than you had before which would account for your weaker signals. Different modems work better in different areas. Try something else and see if it doesn't help, such as JK4 or JL3.
I haven't yet, but I actually had the problem before I flashed the ROM.
Where are you located. I have absolutely ATROCIOUS reception in Atlanta, and ATT says they have some 50 towers down. Your area might be the same. In my basement where I used to have 3 bars consistently, i know have to run around the basement struggling to get one bar to send a text. ATT needs to get their act together or everyone might start switching to Verizon.
In Toronto, Canada. We usually have good reception. It's only recently that I have had issues.
check with other people such as your family and see if they have bad service too, if so call your service provider, there may be an issue on their end. Other than that all I can suggest would be a full reset to factory and a master clear and then restart from there. While that is annoying, it might be worth it to solve the problem.
Hello folks.
I would really have liked to post into the "[ROM][GT-I9305][JB][4.3.1] CyanogenMod 10.2 official nightlies" thread but I'm not allowed.
I have been running CM10.2, 4.3.1 for around two months, updating regularly for fixes, but they've not come and as such, I'm posting to see if it's just me experiencing the issues, or if they are well known. I have looked about but couldn't find much relating to the below issues.
1) I notice that the mobile internet connection regularly drops. I often notice that I have no coverage in areas that I know to have very good coverage.
2) Bluetooth works (which is great, it never did on my old SGS2 on CM) but it regularly drops out - like missed packets. This was never an issue with the stock ROM but happens with various bluetooth output devices (car, headphones, speakers). The stream misses maybe 250-500 milliseconds and continues perfectly.
I'm a technical person, but not overly experienced with custom firmwares, etc. I'm happy to provide any additional information which may help get further insight.

I have had similar issues to what you describe before, and I found that if I just "power off" the phone and back on again (not restart) the cold start of all the hardware is enough to get it back up and going. But, this isn't what I'm talking about.
I mean, if I am sitting at my office desk, the phone has full DC-HSPA or HSPA+ or otherwise good full coverage (in central London) and then all off a sudden nothing. Just "no service" dead. Then maybe 20 seconds later, it resumes. I loose basic call/text functionality as well as mobile internet. Telephone calls are dropped/text messages are lost. Drives me crazy!
Bluetooth is also an issue, frustrating more than anything...
Any insight a great help!

Everyone will crazy when his phone perform like this
Hi,
LG V40 isn't connecting to strong Cell or WiFi signals without a Re-Start ... why?
This has never been a problem before. It's always shown a strong Cell Signal at my house and I've fantastic WiFi speeds at the house too. However, occasionally I"ll notice the phone is slow to load a Website or takes too long to send a large file in a Text, I'll look at the Signal Strength and it shows low Cell Signal and low WiFi Signal, yet I know (and test) them both from another phone and they're as strong as possible.
What is the issue and how can I fix this problem?
Thank you all in advance.
Regards,
Gregory
Almost a week later and not one reply post ! ? !
Guess the heat for LG has faded ... not only for the brand, but for this phone, yet, this phone is still (somewhat) fast, takes all updates and is a good camera.
Well ... I still hope for an answer. I've done a complete Factory Reset without loading ANY apps at all for 3 days and it STILL has this issue.
(... Side Note: It's absolutely AMAZING how long the battery lasts when all the bloatware and junk apps are removed, all non-needed-undeleteable-apps are disabled and there's not one Third Party App ! ! )
I read on another thread it's only happened since 5G started getting activated on towers. I don't understand how one would affect the other, but maybe someone can chime in and clear the air on that.
If I don't get an answer soon, I'll have to check other phones to see if others are having this issue and upgrade to a newer phone.
Hope to hear from someone soon.

I don't have the exact same issue as you, but I have an issue where my data connection doesn't connect when my WiFi is off. So I need to turn on my WiFi before I turn on my data, then only turn off my WiFi. I didn't know this before, and I had to resort to turning on airplane mode, whenever I needed to use my data.
I sent my previous device in for warrany repairs, so my device has a new mainboard, and the issue was on both devices. It has to be a software issue on my variant (LG-V405EB), because I haven't seen any other complaints about it online.

Thanks for the reply Miz Pimp.
The phone was checked out and came back working 100% efficient - but they did say that clearing the phone with a Re-Start will help with connectivity.
I hate that as an answer - but it's something that a Samsung user said they've got to do too.
Feeling less alone regarding this problem, but I'm going to upgrade to a 5G phone early next year when that coverage is expected to get to my area.

That really is a horrible reply. It sucks that we need to do that to get a proper connection. I never had this issue with ANY of my mid-range Huawei devices, so it's pretty annoying that I'd have issues on a flagship.
The System Update 13 from Verizon just installed.
Still the same issue with connectivity damn it! !
I literally shut the phone off and restart to get better reception for several hours .... then the reception will drop to one or two bars, calls have drop-outs and upload/download speeds drop. A Re-Start and it all goes back to full bars and high connectivity speeds.
This does not happen to friends with Pixel's, Sammy's or iPhones.
Looks like the LG has some sort of malfunction ... OR ... it's a program to keep battery life exceptionally long, which it clearly does over my other friends phones who maintain high connectivity rates, yet significantly lower battery life.
