[Q] Backup and wipe for gtalk login :( - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Evening all,
*sigh - i wish google would update their gtalk so that it had multiple logins like gmail app* Currently using Beejive but would like to use the built in gtalk app.
Ive researched around and looks like the only course of action is to system wipe my sgs so that i can login into gtalk using a different gmail account (corporate gmail (setup after i bought the phone)
I installed JVO last night and have root and CWM installed. Also titanium.
Last night flashed gtalk v1.3 but still no multiple login. Apparently the option is out on tablet firmware.
All contacts are saved on gmail account (personal gmail) ready to restore at 1st boot. But not sure i can restore them from a secondary account?!
What is the best course of action so that i dont loose everything/something/?
Thanks for any advice.

All fixed.
Root access to /data/system/
and renamed accounts.db to accounts.db.bk
Reboot sgs and market, gtalk and gmail asks for login, used coporate account and still got all personal numbers on phone as no need for factory reset. And of course all apps are still avaliable.
A very happy boy!

And with no root....?
Any way of doing this without root? Perhaps using adb?

Jrhoop I've been searching online for a solution for 3 days... your a lifesaver!

[FIXED] Market Problems

Anyone else's market having issues today?
Lets me search and such, but no downloading. Always "Starting Download...." both on WiFi, and 3G.
Also tried restarting, Airplane Mode toggle, clearing Market cache, and uninstalling Market updates....
any other ideas?
see last post for fix.
I just finished updating a few of my apps + downloaded a new one.
No problems here, only thing I noticed was that it took a good 10-20 sec to actually start downloading (not just hang on the "Starting Download")
I did read a day or two ago that the market was having problems, something about dev's updates not being listed in the market or something.
i purchased and installed root explorer, everything went well but this was at 12noon
Still having market issues. Could it be related to switching ROMs and using the same email address and how it registers to the Market in Google's servers?

You log into Gmail? What Rom do you have? Did you delete Gmail / GmailProvider / or any of the gTalk stuff?

Current system:
DC2.08.01
I am logged into gmail, with the same account since I got my phone in February.
I have not removed any gmail or talk apps.
This started happening after I cleared my gmail storage when I was having gmail sync issues.
I tried "resetting" things by changing my password, so my phone would have to re-login to the main account.
Any other ideas?
I fixed the problem by making a nandroid of my current ROM (that wouldn't download from the market) and installed another ROM after wiping all data, and I could download from the market on that ROM.
I restored my nandroid and it fixed my problem. Must be an issue with how my account was authenticated.

[Q] Help switching ROMs

My Hero has been rooted since August, for the first couple of months after I rooted it I was flashing a new ROM everyday, just to find one I really liked.
Well for the last few months I've been using ASOP 9.7 and this theme, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833504 I've tried to flash newer versions of ASOP a few times but none of them worked for me without a ton of FC's so I finally just gave up and have been happy with the theme and 9.7 but now I want to try something new, namely one of these, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731659
My question is, I want to be able to sync all my contact with my Google account and my Gmail but I DO NOT want all my apps restored, I'd like to start over fresh in the apps department. It seems like with every 2.2 ROM I've tried it automatically restores my apps but I don't want it to, how can I keep this from happening?
Your Gmail and google contacts (not phone contacts) are always synced online. Your other email (non-gmail) is not synced, unless you are using IMAP. So, once you change the ROM and login into your google account, everything's (gmail/google contacts) restored.

I'm not worried about GMail and Contacts, those restore and I want them too, I just want to know if there is a way to keep all the apps from restoring.
Go to Settings, Privacy, uncheck Back up my data.
Another option. After you flash a new rom, and you are going thru setup, on the screen where you initially sign in to google, hit menu, disable restore.

[Q] Can you change gmail accounts on google talk, seems not possible

I have to gmail accounts. Most of my gtalk activity is done through one, which is not my primary sync account on my cappy. I do not want to switch primary sync accounts because it will mess my contact list and calendar. I could not find the answer to this questions in the google forum:
1) Is there a way to switch gmail accounts/sign in in google talk, when one have more than one gmail account?
2) Why the manual sign in is not "manual" it automatically signs me in to the primary gmail account on my phone without even asking me for ID or pass?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts and experiences.

I was looking exactly for this! Thanks to all contributors works like a charm!
So does this method let you have one login for the Market app while having a separate login for the Google Talk app? Or do you have to switch back and forth with both apps using the same login at the same time?
Thanks for any replies.

[Q] Account Bound to Phone

I'm used to using ROMs that don't support backup assistant on my phone so I'm not sure about this.
I would like my Market account to be my Gmail account, not my backup assistant or whatever.
When i first started the phone, I skipped all backup assistant things and added my Gmail. But when i go to Accounts, it still locked with backup assistant.
I need it to be my Gmail account to get all my paid apps.
Do you mean when you go into menu>settings>accounts, you still see the backup assistant account with a lock on it? b/c in the stock ROM, you can't get rid of the account. you can not set it up and it won't do anything, but it's like the stupid VZW bookmarks in the browser or the VZW contacts on your contact list - you can't get rid of them, but you can ignore them.
You should still be able to set up your gmail account; as far as I know, the android market requires a google account. It won't use any other accounts, e.g. facebook, backup assist, etc. Happy to help more if that doesn't answer your question.

Well I know for a fact that the market isnt reading from my google account because it still says I have to pay for the apps i've already paid for.
I would get another ROM but BigDX's theme is only for stock
I'm too lazy to add the PNGs to the new ROM myself...lol
Umm.. You have to use a Google account for the market. Backup assistant is only related to your account info with verizon (ie. your phone #). If your market isn't showing your apps you are logged in with the wrong google account, OR, the apps you had downloaded are not the same apps capable of working on your new device. For example, there are games like Fruit Ninja that have a TegraHD only version that will only show up on Tegra phones, 2 different apps entirely that effectively are the same.
Thanks, i fixed it. I had to delete the account that didnt have my apps on it, clear market then reload it so it only had 1 google account to choose from (i have 2 on my device), the re-add the gogle account that didnt have apps.

In the future, while in the market, you should be able to go to menu>accounts and select the correct account, without deleting/re-adding your accounts.
Glad I could help!

[Q] Changing android email account

I'd like to change the e-mail address I use to log into the market/play store. I created the account a long time ago, and have since began using a different gmail account as my primary email, so I'd like to be able to change it if possible. The thing is, I want to keep the contacts and purchased apps currently synced with my old account under the new address. Does anyone know if I can do this?
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
You can have more than one account and set up what you want to sync with each account so I'd just use both. I have several accounts. I sync mail on all and only sync contacts, calendar etc with one.
Not sure you will be able to do it any other way. But maybe someone else can help.

I think isn't possible to port market link from one account to another; maybe to only solution is to make a titanium backup of your data and try to restore after changing the account.
If you have TB pro you can try also to restore missing links of the paid apps you have.
If it don't work you don't lost anything 'cause you are working on an new "empty" account.
So :
- Make a TB backup of all your data and apps
- Remove your Google account
- Add your new account
- Restore data and apps
It should work.
Yeah there are ways around the fact, TB and syncing different accounts. Just wondering if there was an easier solution than I know
I'll just sync a couple accounts and make do.
