I am having a bit of a strange problem with connecting and/or mounting my N1 to my computer (or any other computer for that matter).
i keep getting "USB Device not recognized" messages when i plug it in, and the phone shows no sign of being connected except being charged, the usb mount or debug notifications dont pop up. and i keep hearing the usb disconnect and connect sounds from the computer over and over.
also, i tried mounting in recovery mode but that did not seem to work either.
any ideas?
Sounds like either your usb connector on the phone is jacked up, or the cable. Have you tried with a different cable?
Tried another cable, both seem to be not working.
Are you on a custom ROM cause this doesn't sound quite right your the computer should still detect the phone or at least the debugger on the phone should detect the computer. Do you have the drivers for the phone on your computer? Does the phone recognize that it is connected in fastboot?
i am running miui however i dont think that's the problem because as i said, even when in recovery mode the pc doesnt recognize it, when running adb devices i dont see the phone.
also the "USB device not recognized" message in windows keeps popping up over and over like it keeps trying to connect evry second.
by the way i managed to get it to work for a few seconds here and there but overall its not working, i think this suggest it might actually be a hardware problem.
bummer.
Your right it might be a hardware problem but if I were you I would still try wipe and maybe reflash the ROM or restore a nandroid backup from when it worked.

This is a really strange one that I've never heard of happening before. Whenever I plug my Diamond into a computer via USB, Windows says "USB device not recognised". In the past, when transferring files, the connection would just cut out at times and I would need to unplug and plug the phone back in to get it to work.
The strange thing is that the charging and audio from the port still works.
I have done a hard reset before and it hasn't fixed the issue, I really don't want to have to send this back to HTC as I need my phone.
Hi,
I have searched, I have trown, I have do many things but cant fix this one. I was up till 5 in the morning last time but nothing. The problem I am getting appeared when I changed the usual samsung cable (which I got in box) with Nokia one, since I lost the last one Samsungs. The cable and everything is fine because it works on my notebook and there I can do everything normally.
So whats the prob:
I somehow connect my phone to the computer via media player and I can do anything with files on my phone, I can copy them to my computer BUT I cant do it vice versa, I cant copy nothing to my phone. Its just saying discovering ... and it will stay like that. In mass storage (if I get him to there ) it will lag so I have to unplug and plug it again.
Mom has the same windows 7 as me.
I have a high feeling that this has something to do with my computer being used to cable used before and I would have to delete some file from my computer (phone was already formated) ...
Oh and I have used every single USB on my computer, which is I think around 10 usbs
Restarted the comp and the phone dozen of times, still nothing.
Debuging mode, nothing appeared ...
I tried connecting to samsung kies, it wont connect, it just says connecting to a device.
Guys if you help me, my phone and I will be gratefull forever
Update: I have formated my computer also, still the same!
Update2: I will send $10 to paypal to the one who helps me with this one!
I had a similar problem, i would first ensure, that the Device isnĀ“t connected to a USB Hub, but directly into the Computer. Sometimes the front USB Panels acts like a Hub, so if its not a laptop try to plug it in the back of the computer.
You said, you already formated the device? How? If you can do this again, then make a wipe. Go into the Recovery Mode with the 3 Button Combination and select wipe. After reboot you should have a clean device.
Do you have a external memory card inside? If yes put it out.
Now connect your device to the computer, wait until all drivers are installed. If you get any problem right here, then go into Kies and on the left top Corner where it says Kies, select Driver recovery. It will automaticaly try to reinstall the drivers.
After that you should be getting a connection to Kies.
Tried, and other then loosing my massages and contacts I didnt achive nothing :S
Hello.
Short story: my phone was a little wet and i have some issues with it, mostly i want to get a mass storage to get working. (cant root)
Basically at first the phone didn't even want to charge, when i connected it to the PC windows was giving me an error that the device cannot be recognized, and couldn't install the drivers. (i had Kies installed)
I dried it completely, now the phone turns on without any problem, when i connect it to the pc the phone is recognizing connection (i hear sound + the button backlights are firing up for a sec)
Homever, windows is not detecting any USB device at all, and in about phone/info it says the phone is connected to the AC instead of USB.
When i connect it with USB there is no dropdown in notification to choose from charging, storage etc.
There is also manual usb storage mounting under settings/communication/usb settings , when i'm trying to mount here it just says to connect the phone with usb cable (not detecting connection, homever the backlight + sound is here after connecting, and it's charging)
I tried connecting it with usb debugging on/off even tried to fiddle with in service menu (*#7284#) but nothing.
And since i cannot get the usb storage working basically i cannot flash anything or root it.
Also the USB cable is not a Samsung but an HTC one, could this be a problem? (people in different thread said those cables are the same so it shouldnt be a problem, same amperage, same stick etc.)
Even tried to install MountUSB Widget from market, but it doesn't work when im trying to start the app it's force closing, when i make widget on desktop and press it the phone just vibrate for 1 sec and nothing happens.
When i connect phone with Kies AIR and it works, i mean it shows the storage information, also recognize the phone model correctly, how much free space i have on internal and on SD card but i cannot click "show in explorer" it's greyed out.
Any experts out there could help me?
This soloiotion worls with me in Galaxy pop plus
Now uninstall kies and the drivers and reboot and your device should be plugged in
After you restart your PC u will install samsung kies and the drivers and the PC should recongize your mobile

Hi all!
I have a Nexus One running CM7.2.0 with Clockworkmod Recovery. My computer is running Windows 7.
I want to connect my phone to the computer in order to return it to it's factory state with an official shipping rom and stock recovery image.
However, I've run into a problem which I've been having for quite a while now; when I plug the phone into the computer via USB cable, it charges, but nothing happens on the computer, and nothing happens on the phone.
I've tried different USB cables, and different computers.
If I push the part that goes into the phone port to the right, the computer will make a noise as if to say that something is connected, but then it will be unable to install the correct drivers, and will say "USB Device not recognized" It comes up as an "Unspecified" device in Devices and Printers, and in "Unknown Device Properties" it tells me that "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
I have a feeling that the problem is the port on the phone, but I wanted to ask on here first to see what other people thought. Why is it that the phone charges correctly, but won't be recognized on the computer?
I might just add that this problem first started when I installed a device manager program that allowed me to see my texts and things when the phone was plugged into the computer. It was a while ago, and I think I remember (not entirely sure though!) not safely ejecting the phone before unplugging it, and then 2 minutes later when I went to plug it back in, this occurred. Whether this is related to the problem or not I do not know.
Also, I'll add that this problem has been occurring for quite a few months now, but it is only recently that I have noticed that when plugged into a wall charger, the phone charges much slower than it used to, and the charging light will go on and off every so often. This suggests port wear, but this started happening quite a while after the connection problems happened.
Anyway, thanks to all those who respond! I am keen to work out what is wrong.
Thanks,
Simon
Also I'll add that the SD card works perfectly fine in an SD card reader USB thing!

I'm not sure you properly read what I said..
My phone doesn't work on any computer I try it on. All other USB devices work fine on the computer I am currently using. This means that it is not simply a matter of following the steps you linked, because the problem is not related to a windows error.
BTW, learn how to read properly.
Youshuold change usb cable or or rest the phone.but first of all buckup your data after that phone will stat newely so bug will be gone

Hey all,
Recently I have gotten need to RUU my phone. It has a custom hboot 1.56, S-OFF, and is running CM11. My problem is that my computer will not recognize my phone whatsoever. In fact, it doesn't even show up in Device Manager OR the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the task bar. USB Debugging is enabled on my phone, and I am using the adb binary from the RUU package.
What's strange is that Windows doesn't even bring up a message to try and install drivers or anything... it acts as if nothing was ever plugged in. On my phone, nothing happens except it begins charging. Not even a USB storage popup or anything.
I'm not really in a location right now where I can test out another computer to try that, nor do I have a spare cable handy at the moment. Has anyone ever had the problem I've having, and if so, what was causing the problem/fixed the problem? I'm thinking it's the cable, but I'm not really sure since it CAN charge the phone.
Thoughts?

It's probably the cable. I had to install CM on a Tab 2 for my friend and his cable didn't work, only charged, so I had to get another cable, which worked fine.
