Ok so i know im a noob moron so maybe you guys can tell me. Do you think the nook color rooted when we get flash will be able to play netflix movies or is the hardware just to low end?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
Netflix does not use flash. Netflix uses Silverlight.
There is not a Netflix app out for android either.
Swyped from my Mynion using the Xda App.
Ahh i see. So there ya have it. Im a moron lol. Ok so the question is how can i make it play . Some brilliant young guy can surely make it happen if the hardware can handle it.

Unless an official app is released, it just won't happen.
Orb Live
I believe Orb is working on a port of their new app for Android, I use it for Netflix and Hulu content on my iPhone that I wouldn't normally be able to watch (Hulu content that hasn't been licensed for mobile, mostly). It's possible that after they get the app going for Android that you'll be able to watch Netflix content via it's interface.
The only downside is that I believe you have to have access to your PC that has the orb caster software installed (it does the actual rendering and casting of the video to your mobile device). As it sits right now, I can't watch Hulu content without being in wireless range of my computer.
Wait, I have orb to watch TV with on my nook and iPhone, how do you set it up for Netflix?
until they square away DRM for Netflix and Android - don't expect it - it migh be awhile although i read somewhere that Netflix is working on an Android app
One of the new phones at CES had a netflix app... so, as they say in Spaceballs "When will then be now???? Soooooooooon"
Sent from my NookColour using XDA App
Playon.tv also handles Netflix, but their android client isnt out yet
There is a handset coming with Netflix preloaded, I don't know what is in the app though, I would assume playback is possible in the future. Also, there are other options such as Videos5 and a Hulu hack for when Froyo/2.3 rolls out.
you need to have the orb controller, which I believe is only available on iPhone, though I haven't checked the market lately to find out if it's available for Android yet.
The Netflix app for Android is out there. Its on the LG Revolution. Someone needs to get a copy of it.
Just need to confirm if that is a streaming app or just a scheduling app

A work around
The way you can work around this is easy to do, but will run you some $$$.
First, get a Slingbox.
Second, you need a TiVo XL or something the slingbox can control. The slingbox needs to control a device using netflix. The TiVo XL has netflix built into it.
Third, get the Slingbox app for your android phone. I was watching tons of movies @ the gym.
slingbox you say...hahaha. off to shop.
save money and get it from ebay. i've seen the slingbox hd for $229 there. @bestbuy, $299 + tax. all slingbox does is redirect what your looking and shoots it over the internet (ie... your phone being on the net and for the love of god, if you have ATT with data caps, it will run you). i used my slingbox app yesterday and was watching king of the hill. i'm in the military (in GA for school) and my TiVo is in KS. Technically when i deploy, i can use my nook off a wireless internet connection in iraq and watch tv as is live and with netflix.

I am pretty sure it is streaming, I know this came out a few months ago for Verizon I believe, not positive though. I just know that I had a Netflix scheduling app for my g1 and was jealous when a streaming app was released. This all of course is based on memory so I could be very wrong.

Just posted from a reliable source. I got it installed and it came up to the logon screen. Did not have a Netflix account to test further. Let me know how it works.
Update: It has been posted you can log in but can not stream live movies. Sorry folks
http://db.tt/XeibZ5U
interface works, i got an error when trying to play. "Sorry we could not reach the netflix service" It might be a bandwidth issue, I'm tethered to T-Mobile 3g.
I was on wifi, streams fine on ps3, same error for me.

androidcommunity<dot>com/netflix-for-android-found-in-lg-revolution-dump-20110315
stolen from a system dump? (if its even the same one)
PS quote from that page
"Brian 2 hours ago in reply to imperalix
You're missing the drm libraries. Maybe some smart dev can pull them from the system dump and get them working. Although thats exactly why netflix wont be out on the android market... hehe"
Got pretty excited earlier when I could sign in and see everything, then bummed when I couldn't watch anything. :-(
Damn drm.
So close. When trying to play a movie I get an error that Netflix service can't be reached.
I read that it was only unlocked for certain processors... I hope the Tegra will be on that list soon....
netflix is working with nvidia for tegra chips...but i am sure the devs can get this to work, i have tried it on my HTC incredible...same error!
snapdragon processors only rightnow i do believe
Is it possible that the app has a url or something that it's supposed to connect to for streaming, and since there are technically no android phones out that should actively be running this app, that maybe that url is not actively operating yet, and that after the LG becomes available, it may simply start working?
Just a thought...
MC
it's a DRM issue. Only certain chips have the appropriate DRM baked into them, which is why there are issues connecting to the streams. Unfortunately due to this limitation, I don't really see a decent workaround for getting streaming to work.
Hopefully someone on XDA can prove me wrong. I know both iOS and Microsoft have built themselves up around streamlining these DRM packages in with their software, but due to android's frequent updates and lack of included DRM integration with the OS at the 2.1/2.2 time, Netflix had to use alternate means of distributing to android. By the time Ice Cream Sandwich rolls around google should be on the ball with this stuff.
We'll see, though.
I found the Netflix apk that leaked today. I am in no way a dev, just a very thankful direction follower. The app functions beautifully, (recently watched, instant que, browse) the only thing not working is the most important streaming. It attempts then pulls error (1005) can not connect to server. Hopefully there is a work around. http://lts.cr/TY5, thanks to phandroid for the link.

This is cool. However, this can be done with the PlayOn app ^>^
Just tried it.Says it can't find the service.
very nice! thanks a bunch!!!! will try later on tonight....
awesome.....almost
i have been waiting for a dam netflix app forever.....too bad the only thing i need it to do it doesnt do...ha
anyway just wanted to say PLEASE someone get this to work....
netflix was the ONLY thing i liked more about wp7....wp7 sucks otherwise
peace
Completely agree.

It's in the .so library file or one of the libraries not included in the dump. Without them or the ability to decompile the one in the apk, we're out of luck.
so is there any hope....its funny that its the best thing about wp7 tho haha...
Well, if this apk can't be made functional, we will just have to wait for an official android app.

But the PlayOn app requires you to pay for their services on top of having a Netflix acct. So not worth it in my opinion. Though I did download and try it for the trial period. Was very cool. But I stand by my feelings on the matter. =p

The PlayOn app, IMHO, is a much better app for now and to replace the Netflix app when and if it works for all android phones. I am using PlayOn, I can watch Netflix, HULU, all sorts of other stuff and stream whatever is on my PC at home. This is great when I record a show on my PC, it is available for me to watch. I bought the lifetime membership for $80. I think that is cheap when compared to the access and entertainment I get in return. Not to mention that your carrier will not be happy with the amount of data used to watch movies. I have an "unlimited" plan and my data rate has been limited due to the carrier feeling I use too much. So after a few movies the app is worthless as it will not stream well and always buffer if your carrier is unhappy with your usage. This happened to me on WP7 and with playon on android. Why any company would put the time and effort into developing something that can't be used is beyond me. Wifi is jot an issue however, if I am able to connect to wifi I am usually somewhere I would have my laptop. Then why would I watch a Netflix movie on my phone?
found a solution...not really
my solution is to dual boot android and wp7....ha....im only using wp7 for the netflix app and it only took like a half hr to set everything up....and it was easy to do with the videos and such......yay netflix on my hd2 and it works way faster than streaming online websites.....you could tell i really wanted netflix to work.....and now i have dual boot also....so win win i guess.....i love this phone
Downloading now

Hulu Plus comes to Android officially, but its not supported on the ThunderBolt
but yet, the Inspire 4G is a device that is supported. Why is it that we keep getting shunned on this great phone? First Netflix and now Hulu, the only one I care about out of the two is Hulu!!
I would rather have an official app than a hacked browser mod that runs like an app.
Any thoughts on having a fingerprint mod for the ThunderBolt to change fingerprint at will when needed?

was never really a fan of hulu...isn't it like netflix anyway so far as being able to watch shows?

The good thing about hulu is that its free (not hulu plus) and you can watch most shows a day after they air unlike waiting a year after they air to get the dvd from netflix.
hulu plus==waste of my time.
a hulu app (found in some dInc ROMs) that actually has content in app & doesn't require going to the website-----THAT is what gets my interest.
i don't need an app that requires 7.99/month
Yes, I got Hulu Plus for a while, and after a quick month unsubscribed. They "Constantly add new Hulu Plus content" by removing it, waiting a week, and re-adding it as "new." (at least this is how it ran last fall).
The free stuff on Hulu is mostly what I watch anyway; Top Chef, American Dad/Family Guy, House, etc.
I found that just going to hulu.com has been working just fine for me, though.
Hulu Plus broadcasts in HD/HQ, while Hulu doesn't. As far as Hulu vs. Netflix, the Hulu movie selection is almost non-exsistant (just an outrageous number of pot documentaries), but the TV shows selection is widening slowly. They do put the shows up days after air though, which is nice.
I use hulu plus over cable... Less commercials, most of the good tv shows, no need for dvr.
Only major downfall? No sports.

The PLAYER app is going to release later this year in the late summer or fall according to Onlive.
Can't wait for that!

Wow...thanks for the link...works perfectly...awesome how the newest things going for Android I always seem to find thru my Nook, and I usually get more things running on that, before my EVO...(Netflix for example....running for 3 weeks on my Nook before I got the Evo version figured out....Anyway, I'm sure that there's a workaround without waiting for a player .apk to be released....If the client is any Windows or Mac, as it says on their homepage, I suspect using a browser with the Nook in full desktop mode (like Maxthon for tablets) and a hacked version of Flash (like the ones that popped up when Netflix first arrived, which of course I made copies of, lol) would be perfectly sufficient..I'll give it a shot later tonight after work...post any results if anyone else gets further with this, please....Thanks again...

very cool, works perfectly ty
Some notes on the Onlive viewer app
Onlive uses at least two different quality streams.
Spectating (which is all you can do right now) uses a low quality stream. When you are playing a game, you get connected to a high quality stream where game look near local.
The Onlive player app will release this summer or fall and will be compatible with a universal wireless controller that will be compatible with most tablets and phones.
There is at least one game coming out for Onlive that will have exclusive tablet controls in addition to standard controls. The game is called From Dust and was shown at E3.
Also a browser with a 10Gbps connection will be on Onlive this summer or fall too.
