I see people sometimes talking about getting, for instance, a Thunderbolt, to replace their Droid X. My question is, how are they buying the phones? Verizon only (I thought) gives discounts when your contract is within a few months of expiring, so are they paying full price for the phones? $400, $500, $600, etc? Can someone explain this to me?
I wouldn't worry about it, the world is ending this weekend...

A lot of people do pay full price but most just sell what they have to part subsidise their new purchase. Otherwise it's wait until the contract is up.
Getting back off topic...what are you doing with your last few hours of existance?

Only once a year it comes around. For me it means a new phone, I don't really care about the cost because its a yearly thing. So the question is what kind of phone to buy. I'm bound to a sim card so it's most likely going to be a T-Mobile phone. K so the question is what to buy I was thinking about a Nexus-s or a Droid 2 global because they both have Sims. Any idea's? I'm looking for power, speed, flexibility (rooting) and looks. I'm still rocking a good old g1 but I'm a little obsessed with (ORD) obsessive rom disorder.. some of you can relate.

Patience is a virtue that I have virtually none. But I love my Desire soooooo much that I'll not give it up. Except maybe for a Meizu M9. Anyone has it here?
It looks nice

My GF's in freezing, fouled-up Beijing. I'm advising her to get the Meizu M9 if she insists on an Android... Company owes her some relocation cash and she's running out of ideas on how to spend it.
I'll stick to the Desire until they manage to root the Meizu
I can't wait to try this on my Captivate and Infuse.

Yeah, i thought it was pretty bunk that he made a "worlds first" out of it when I loaded the bootloaders onto my phone about a full day before he got involved.

You better be getting a slice of that $40 pie he is selling. Honestly, I think that is absolute garbage. This guy is taking advantage of many users offering what should be a donation service because of the work you and others have done.

Now Mobiletechvideos provides a professional grade, top notch technical service. He runs a business and that's his source of income. We text each other for technical advice once in a while. Even if I wanted to, I could not possibly keep up with his workload and do my own job as a hospital electronics technician. We have a deal worked out where he will eventually buy Rebellos a replacement phone via PayPal donations. He's a guy running a business. I look at the business aspect as a downfall of his ability to support himself with technical expertise. All I'm saying is technically its not a worlds first as Android isn't booted and I was running the bootloaders first.
Just got this post from a guy at my country...
He bought a very cheap 1TB HDD brand Western Digital... cost only $4,

That's fantastic, but in fairness to the Chinese faking people you should take a look at an episode of the last TopGear series. They show the fake cars they make over there, direct copys of the latest models and some are pretty damn good for what they are

Hey, at least he gets a 1TB thumb drive for $4. Cheers up.
some of the counterfeits ive seen look just like the real thing and an average person wont be able to make out that its fake
Really nice that someone believes he can buy 1TB for 4$

Just got my CES ticket! Totally psyched.
Anyone else going?
If no, i'll happily cover the event for you guys =D
If yes, how about a meetup? Would be epic to meet some of you guys.
no-one, huh? :/
A coverage of the event would do for me. Thanks.
||I'm just a PM away for help||
Oh it would only cost me about 5000 euros to go there. No biggy, I have a few flecks of dust in an old sock somewhere....
A coverage will do just fine.
Yeah, I lucked out by registering early enough that the tickets were free. The drive from SoCal to Vegas just isn't that bad, and my uncle LOVES Vegas so I was able to 'borrow' some of his 'frequent hotel miles ' (whatever they're actually called ) so its really cheap.
Sadly I'm fairly hard up for money, so I (probably) can't afford a decent camera.... Hopefully I'll be getting a galaxy note ii by then tho, and I plan on just switching on Google+ instant upload for my pictures so anyone who's interested can check it out.
Now what I really want is a galaxy camera, but I think that's asking for a bit much.
Trying to get a new phone for the event..... Saving up for a Note II...
Figured I'd bump this.....
Is no one else going? :/
How much are the tickets? And how'd you get it for free?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
If you register early enough they're free. I registered as soon as registration opened. They get progressively more expensive as time goes by though, so that means that if tickets are even still available they're gonna cost an arm and a leg.
Ill check how much they cost now (if they're still available) when I get home.

Pulled a total impulse buy on a white 32gb Nexus 5 as I've always been eyeing this phone. I just ordered a Z1 LTE C6906 in white from Sony (Buy.com had them for sale for $285!! but went back up to over $500 in 24hrs) so I'll decide which one to keep and then sell the other
Buy on!

It's worth paying a bit extra to have the 1 year warranty go through Google instead of LG.
I am seeing them in my area go for 250 to 325 depending on the version on Craigslist in mint condition. Might grab one of these as a backup.

Personally I never keep phones more than a year so this doesn't really persuade my purchases. But thanks for noting that.

It is the same 1 year warranty when from Google or otherwise,it is LG's warranty. You get Google's effort in front which is worth something, but for us in California buying from Google is $444.90 delivered vs this deal a $385 delivered is 15% more than taking this dealer or LG's warranty. Given failure rates are low for N5 I don't see the justification for 15% higher.
