Hi,
newbie here on the xda ...
an interesting experience with my P990 and an ebay-bought case...
I've got the case and have been very happy because the P990 is a little big to hide it to my pocket... but almost every time when I get it out from the case, Car home has been started... there was a long trying peroid to discover how could it happen: the little magnet of the case starting the Car home! Now I can reproduce it almost every time with the case, with a hdd magnet and even with the door of my fridge. Just have to pull a magnet close to the back panel of the phone and voilá, Car home suddenly started! To tell the truth I've hate this bug (or feature ) and of top of that sometimes the icons have disappered from the actual screen (switched to an other screen and back solving the problem).
Is the anyone who experienced a similar symptoms?
it's a feature for your carkit. If you've rooted your phone, just delete or freeze the carkit app and it will be over (i guess)
I happen to have the official LG car kit.
Although i noticed a small silver metal thingy on the back of the holding-case itself, I assumed it would do something when inserting the phone.
Apparently nothing happens on my phone when i put it the holder.
No carkit app, no nothing...
I assume that my carrier specific firmware (H3G Austria) might be buggy or something like that.
There are no options in the carkit app to enable/disable the magnet triggered startup.
Your phone has to be unlocked when U plug it on the car holder
thank you vermuch
Thanx for the answers... so I should root my phone or buy a magnetless case.

Thank you, I was aware of that.
Fortunately, I figuered out, how it works:
When I wrote the first post, it was not working because the carkit app was not running in background.
I launched the app and closed it again with the "X".
After that, the carkit app would pop up when inserting the phone in the holder.
@acid_master:
Just stop/kill/end the app in the running-apps settings.
Should do fine until reboot.
whitemusketeer: unfortunately it isn't enough, because Car home always started again "by itself" ... so I should root my phone to do it.

This is really bugging me but on occasion, when I slam the keyboard shut, the phone turns off. It also has happened when I opened the keyboard but only a few times.
I actually dissassembled the phone to see if maybe it was a loose connection somewhere. I did find that the keyboard ribbon cable was loosely connected so I reseated it firmly...but the problem didn't go away.
I also thought it may be either the SIMM card or the memory card contacts but after removing them, again, I still can reproduce the problem.
Understand that this is an intermittent problem and a little unpredictable but I can make it happen within a few tries. If I cautiously open and close the keyboard (without slamming it shut), I have no problems.
I don't believe it's software related because I can force it to happen when the device is booting up (with the Ericsson logo on the screen) before the OS loads.
Anyone else experiencing this?????
11/17/08 UPDATE: PROBLEM RESOLVED!
After further review and testing, it appears that the battery was losing connection to the battery contacts. I shoved a small crumb of paper folded up (about 1mm thick) at the back of the batt and the problem has gone away. Of course, I'm still holding my breath every time I open and close the keyboard but it looks like that may have been the problem. That's strange because I'm using the original battery. Thought this may help in case anyone else ever runs into this.
That sounds like a problem with the internals, maybe a you should get it replaced/repaired?
Kid says to doctor " IT hurts when I twist my arm backward like this." Doctor replies "then don't do that"
You say "my phone shuts off when I slam my keyboard shut" Doctor says "don't slam your keyboard shut"
this thought just made me laugh.
Seriously though. It does sound like an internal hardware issue that you should have fixed otherwise it may just get worse and start happening more regularly and at very inconvenient times.
Good luck.
Reminds me of my samsung slider phone the day that it died. I was sliding it back and forth.. sometimes the screen would go completely white and then come back.
By the end of the day, it went white and stayed that way.
Turns out the cable on the inside was slowly being cut from rubbing against the metal hole it was going thru every time the slider moved.
You've checked the cables before... but maybe its not cut yet, but something on the slider mechanism is hitting a wire/pulling on it.
Nobody knows.
But we all do know thats not normal. So yea get it replaced.
LOL!

Yep...It's going back. Might as well get a fresh one. I know this problem existed for other phones before and the fix was mostly something simple that didn't require a replacement.
im getting exactly the same problem. gonna send mine back as well.
i have the exact same problem too! Waiting for a new one...
i thought i was the only one with this problem, but it looks like a production error as there are already 3 people on this board who have this defect.

yep, my problem seems to have gone now as well by using you're method. i was almost ready to send it back and then i saw you're post and tried your method and it worked !
Thats a pretty stupid mistake by SE...
They should do a quick fix by making new batters a smidge thicker. Of course they probably wouldn't offer free replacements, but they should fix it anyway.

Where did you place the paper exactly ? On the back of the battery where all the info text is or on the bottom ?
When my device is cold, eg in the morning for first use, this sometimes doesnt happen for >20x tries...but when i used it for a longer time and it almost always shuts down when slammed shut..but i already thought it might be something with the battery, but sometimes while slamming it shut for numerous times even the battery cover would come up and it didnt shut down...then in another situation it shuts down immediatly
Poor design...

Yea...what I found with the design is that the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard sits right under the battery. In fact you can see the protrusion when you remove the battery under the white label. It moves when the keyboard is opened and closed. Slightly...but it does move.
...anyway...I folded a small piece of paper to wrap around the back edge of the battery.
Try this:
1. Make a small rectangular strip of paper about 10mm x 20mm and fold it the long way so you end up with a 5mm x 20mm piece.
2. Wrap it around the back/bottom edge of the battery as you reinsert it.
(If the battery fits more snug in its compartment, you got it right!)
3. Put the back cover back on--which should also be more snug.
4. Turn on the device and try it out (slam the keyboard).
(You don't have to wait for it to completely boot up...you can test it when the SE logo appears).
Be careful to use regular copy paper and not paper that's too thick as it may cause some other damage/problems with the device.
could you make a picture of that ?
Actually i will recieve a new device tomorrow, but i still have the feeling that this problem might reoccur as it seems to be a design flaw

I'm currently playing around with an old XV6800 I got off ebay, and this seems to have fixed the problem, so thanks
I had the same problem too.. but it was linked with the flex cable. Now i just don't use my keyboard even after fixing it.
Sound/music goes through it fine, the bluetooth is good but its not charging even though the indicator says it is.
I thought this could have been because I had Pandora steaming but even with it off (No GPS) it would still not charge.
I tried the cable by directly connecting it to my N1 and its charging perfectly ( I even enabled Navigation and it was still charging it).
What do you guys think could be the problem? It was working fine before. I am not sure if this started happening after I installed Froyo.

Yeah I am. What issues did you have and how'd you fix it?
if i had the phone in before i started the car it didnt sync up right...
check the pins and make sure they are all working right, and by that i mean none of them are stuck since they are like springy

Do you have a skin/case or anyhting on your phone?
I had an issue with the desktop dock (and have seen other people confirm very similar) where I dropped my phone a very short distance to the floor then it wouldn't charge in the dock (but it knew it was in the dock as the dock app would launch).
Couple hours later, just by chance, I felt the tiniest "edge" on the back of my phone. Just below the battery cover and below the off colored "band" (where they engrave the phone if you choose to have that done) on the dark colored part that says "htc" on it. Tho it was not even really noticable, this piece (with the htc on it) had snapped out just a hair. I put the smallest amount of pressure on it and it literally clicked back into place. Couldn't see it move, only feel and hear it. After doing that my phone immediately charged again when putting it in dock and every time since.
I've also seen people say they put a sticker on the back of their phone on that same area and had exact same issue until they took it back off. Doesn't seem like it would be enough, but, at least the desktop dock, appears to be touchy enough where this tiny bit made all the difference.
I've come with similar issue after froyo update. in my case, whenever I synced the bluetooth to stream audio and then proceeded to dock it into the desktop dock it will not charge at "ac adapter"speed, I will only charge at"usb speed". So, depending on my usage while docked, it might or might not charge at all. The only solution I found afte much tinkering was to disconnect any bluetooth connection, dock the phone, then reconnect the bluetooth with whatever device. I hope this helps. And hope this issue doesn't get into the final froyo release.
Hi All,
I am using a LG P970 and since yesterday it is showing a headset sign on the screen whereas there is no headset connected on the phone due to which I am not able to use the phone without the headset. I have never used a headset on this phone wondering what is happening.
Also, as soon as i connect a headset it starts playing the music. However it works fine on Bluetooth which I use often.
Any ideas on how can i get rid of this sign and use my phone normally.
Please help.
Thanks
Try to reboot the phone

Thanks for the quick response. Already rebooted my phone a few times. Removed the battery also but same problem.
Just did a factory reset of the phone also but the problem did not get rectifed.
This happened in my LG GT540, i used to plug in a headset and unplug it and that would work, after a while it came back, then i sprayed some WD40 on the tip of the headset plug, and pluged into the phone and fixed it... for a while
If your phone still in warranty, just take it to LG
Hope it helps
Happened to me after my son spewed water on the phone. A good cleaning with a table napkin and inserting/removing the earphone did the trick.
There might be something that's causing the plug to think there's something in it. If you're lucky a bit of cleaning is all that's needed.
It also happened to me after a big rain. There is water or some metallic debris in the connector. Blow it really well, or use a dryer on a very low or even cold setting. if there is water it could cause a short so be careful!
Happened to me too, cuz a friend accidentaly splashed a beer on it ! for me the headset icon apparead everytime i approched the hand near the proximity sensors...so i couldnt call anymore. Send it to assistance!
Just air you might have something shorting out the connector in the phone

Thanks everyone. When I cleaned the headset jack on the phone with air and some clips (after I powered off the phone) it worked. But unfortunately, I had already done a factory reset of the phone prior to doing all this as I was not able to use my phone.
Thanks again.

I read it. But i did all of thoes tings.but nothing helped. I did that with the fireware...i changed the erphone thing... but nothing..I have an Idea to clean all the microshems but i'm afrade that after that the phone wont work at all.
Thought I'd share what I've just done! I (rather stupidly) was listening to music while working on my car - the only headphones I had to hand had a big size (6.35mm) headphone jack, so I had an adapter in there too. Al this meant a rather large lever poking out the side of the phone. I'd obviously bent down to do something and wrenched the socket to one side. The 6.35mm adapter had been bent over and broken... and when I tested the phone I found the socket was broken to - only working in one ear
I went on line and found this guide to dismantle the phone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGD64_g-ssE
Actually nothing to it! Except Even though I do have a very small set of screwdrivers the screws used on the phone are really small!
I bought a new headphone jack from here for £20.08 delivered : http://www.etradesupply.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lg+p880
And it arrived in the UK in less than a week from the US!
Out of interest the headphone jack can be removed without any of the other circuit board connectors, or the board itself being loosened.
It also houses the proximity and light sensor, I did put it back together and find the proximity sensor was constantly reading 'near' (using the hidden menu 3845#*880# )So I quickly opened it back up again, removed and replaced it one more time. Now it works great, I must have had it badly placed
Well, at least the video was not published in vain
Nice work!

I guess I have to replace my jack, too, since it doesnt hold my headphone strong anymore and sometimes the electric connection of the headset mic gets lost.
I have found the jack for about 5$ incl. shipment at DX:

I got the ETrade one. Also I think parts4repair.com sell parts for the p880.
The little arm you can see poking out actually bends and doubles back under the socket part. I found my screen wasn't waking up when I moved the phone away from my face, I just opened my phone back up and padded it out (between the socket and the sensor part) with a little shim (card etc, I actually cut off and used a little piece of a lens cleaning fine cloth) and now the screen wakes perfectly for me! That was my biggest gripe (apart from huuuuge lag when the browser opens!) and i no longer feel I need to ditch the phone!
Don't lose the little square rubber part that the sensor part sits in! And I recommend using a tiny flat-head screwdriver for the phone's screws, the posi-head screws are so tiny I couldn't get a good fit, and it's all too easy to ruin the tiny screw heads.
on/off button doesn't work.
Anybody know how to fix the on/off button. ?
I'm really pissed, I've had the 4x only 6 weeks and don't think I overused it.
button placement and size isn't that great to start with.
I flashed Arararagi vanir 4.3 and it was running great too.
I've never had any problems with the headphone jack, have my phone for about 4 months now

The on/off button? buy a broken 4x?
I took mine apart a few months back to clean the inside of the screen.
Had to send it back to LG as had a few issues regarding call quality and the screen not coming back on when you take it away from your face - Just got it back and they replaced a case and a lense? Not sure what lense though.
It also said Software update - They sent it back with ICS

they probably even permanently locked your bootloader, if it was unlocked your "phone not turning on when moving away from ear" problem was sensor miscalibration that you could've fixed easily.

No. it was new when I bought it.
Had it for 6 weeks before the power button stoped working.
just used it everyday, rooted it, a few roms, then daily use.
i expect something like this from a cheap chinese knockoff, not an LG 4x. i had a star b92m where the screen became unresponsive.
next time I'll get a SONY XPERIA Z.
The 4x has been in the shop for two weeks already. .
OverVoltage on the headphone jack =(
I believe is overvoltage, I connected a plug from my radio for louder music(as I usually do) but wasn't working, and tried moving the connector on the radio and instead of plug in input from radio, I plugged in the output from the radio, a sound came from the radio and that was it, no more sound signal from my P880, I love this phone, I'm so angry about this.
So I checked with earphones and nothing, just noise, no volume up or down, and the headphone mode is turned on all the time, do you now a site where the earphone jack flex can be delivered to South America, Bolivia? and if you have some other suggestions or solutions specially for taking out of headphone mode, I even can't make calls! thank you in advance
The two parts places I have used are I have used are etradesupply and parts4repair. There's probably lots of others out there. Not sure where they ship to though

Hey, I don't have any problem with mine bro. The magnet feels so strong, if I lift my phone, the dock also sticks with it. Tried the other side? I mean rotating the phone itself... IDK it may be possible that your dock might have an inverted magnet, I DON'T KNOW for sure. haha Just trying to help a fellow z1 user.
My phone also stick with the dock if I try to lift it It charge when I put the phone straight in, but when I key go the phone it looses connection so far I solved the problem with a piece of paper, it is exactly enough to keep the phone charging. Strange.....
Solved it! One of the connection pins on the phone got a little bit black plastic on, I removed it gently.... And now the phone charging in the dock
