Hello all,
I have a brand new Galaxy Tab ( three full charges so far) - and I get quite different results re. battery life then others.
Then again: I read some posts with really long batt life, and others with shorter.
I have Gingerbread - Overcome RC1 installed, and I in about 1.5 hours use ( no 3G, some wifi, medium backlight; time spent mainly installing / removing apps, some games, some email and web browsing) I am at 75%.
When the unit is fully charged, after I switch it on it goes to 99% immediately (I see 100% maybe for less than a minute). This morning I am at about 65% battery life, with about 2 hours use. ( I have erased the battery stats after installing the Overcome rom).
When not using the unit for several hours (for example over night): I do a complete shut-down.
Now others seem to get significantly longer run times.
Is it possible that there are (at least) two versions of the GT, one with better battery the other one with weaker battery?
Or do I have a defective unit and should I try to return it? ( I am within the 30 days return policy, and could go for an exchange)?
Or is my experience totally normal, and the "really long" battery lifes are more the exception?
Or will my battery life get longer after a few more charge / recharge cycles?
I would appreciate any feedback!
Thank you!
People claiming better battery life are running custom firmwares, have their cpu moderated, and have pulled all kinde of tricks to achieve this.
Also, your battery has to "settle"

Thank you for the reply.
I am also using a custom firmware but no other tricks (slowing CPU etc.)
So my unit is then probably normal?
How long does it take for the battery to reach full capacity?
I think I will return the GT for replacement...
Another update.
Yesterday, I have done a full recycle ( fully empty the battery and fully recharge).
Today, when I started to use it, within 50 minutes the battery level went to 80%.
I have removed now all apps, all widgets etc ( factory fresh gingerbread) and I will fully charge and then reset the battery memory within CW.
Lets see how that goes... but I start to worry now as my return period has just passed ( 14 days from purchase) - so I may be stuck with a unit with a battery problem...
I would reccomend to stop delete battery stat everytime now and then. Another thing is please wait few cycles so battery will settle down as someone said. When I got my SGT for the first time I was quite worried that my battery drain so quick. Simple internet browsing over wifi last for 3-4h. Later on I found tha some apps sync itself constantly, name pulse, weather widgets, rss readers etc. Ive check the apps and disable auto sync. Also moving from 2.2 to 2.3 gives me huge boost and make battery last muuch longer.

Thank you. Lets hope you are right.
Install the version beta2. The battery on it lasts much longer. I checked and returned to the beta2 since RC1. Only first JJ4, then JQ1 and beta2. My English is not good, so I apologize if I wrote something wrong
Wow. That is an interesting theory. I will definitely test: you well may be right. I have used beta2 only for a short time, but I think the battery did last longer...
In beta2 worked for 11 hours. The RC1 is less than 7 hours. A friend has the same. Both went back to beta2. Wi-fi enabled, much inernet ,radio, Google mail, mp3. Used on a single chargefor more than iPad
Same problem here..
Strange it is. .
So far i know. .
Battery life is always been the hillarious thing ever, on a smartphone..!!!
Hehehe. . .

For me it has always been a big differens in battery life after a couple of weeks when the battery is performing better.
In the beginning with stock rom i barely got trough one day with heavy use.
Now its no problem getting trough two days of heavy use. Using Overcomes (rc1) latest rom.

I would deffinitelly recommend going back to beta2 as in my case on rc1 I was able to get maximum 7-8 hours when switching to beta2 gave me at least 12 hours. At the moment when not extensively using the tab I am able to get around 60 hours.
ps1
as someone mentioned before pleae stop erasing batterystats.bin
ps2
Do not try to install beta2 on rc1 as it wil cause you a lot of problems. Start with jq1 at least and then beta2.
Hello,
I had the same problem too, but I have resolved it now.
I started by browsing this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986067&highlight=false+status
Then I opened up my tab and disconnected battery for 30 mins. Reconnect and close up and that fixed the problem permanently.
For some people, flashing overcome 2.0 rc1 solved their issues.
Hope that helped.

hi guys, i'm getting really pissed off right now
i''ve got my phone for 3 months now and it worked like charm till the last month
every time my phone shutdown randomly , and when i restart it, my battery level is under the 10%
even if i charge it the whole night till 100%, after i use it a few minutes it shutsdown and the battery will be very low.
sometimes it doesn't even turn on anymore.
i can't use my phone now only when its charging because it doesn't shutdown then.
I've tried everything that i could think of, i've recalibrated the battery , installed different roms but i got the problem with every rom.
i've even tried it with a ics rom but still got the same problem
someone please help me
my phone had the same problem i have flash any costum rom but nothing and then i have flashed a stock original rom for fix that....and then retry a costum rom.
have you try to wipe /system /sdcard /data /cache /delik-cache and then flash a stock original rom with odin ?

I have the exact same problem, am about to buy a new battery tomorrow unless someone else has another solution? This might not be the proper forum but in here at least many i9001 users will read it.
I've had this problem for about a week, was very annoying while on holiday. I've tried using BroodROM BE 1.0, Stock KQE and now back to stock KPG.

Well yes I'm going to try a different battery soon but the odd thing is after my battery charge seems to drop down to 5% or so, it starts charging to about its original charge level without a charger connected. So it's basically 80%->drop to 5%->charge back to 60% without charger.
i'll try now to do a hard reset, go back to stock rom, then reinstall an costum rom,
will tell you if it works!
Plz mods remove/delete this sheeyat.. this is
Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development
i have used TeamWin Recovery for wipe all partition becouse with hard reset don't wipe /system and internal sd.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I charge my battery to full and it starts draining normally. Then, when around 30-80% battery remaining, it turns off. It only turns off when you use it for a while, when the screen is off it stays on normally. After rebooting it turns off within a minute or so. This continues for a few reboots with the battery level remaining roughly the same. Eventually after a few boots it shows 3-4% of battery, after which I of course have to charge. Also tried calibrating and tried different roms but it still remains. I ALSO SWAPPED MY BATTERY WITH A FRIEND BUT IT DIDN'T HELP! It worked like a charm for him but I still got turn offs with his battery.
If i were you Guys, i would install stock rom and hand in my phone under warranty ( of course if you still have it ). Because if this occurs even when u swap battery, let samsung play with you phone then
Its not your battery..restore your phone to the way it was and give it to samsung
i'm getting pissed of now, even with the stock rom it randomly shutsdown.
i don't have any warrenty so i can't give it back to samsung
In case anyone's still wondering, in my case it did turn out to be a fried battery. If anyone else is experiencing the same issues I was, just check your battery to see whether or not it is swollen. If it's bigger than it should be, that probably means it's fried and you should replace it. I'm happily running custom roms without any trouble again now, and battery life is awesome!

Hi guys,
I also have this problem, my phone randomly turns off and when I turn it on, it shows much less remaining battery percentage than before. (please see attached image) After turning on the value is increasing, sometimes from ~5% to 30-40% or more...
Now I have CM10 Jelly Bean flashed, but CM9 did the same sometimes but much more rarely than on JB. Today the phone 'died' three times until noon.

Yeah that's the exact same problem I had. In my case it turned out to be a fried battery, see if it's swollen or not, if you lay your battery on a table it should stay still and not wobble around. If the battery's not flat but swollen that means your battery is fried. In this case good news because you can easily replace it

unfortunately it is absolutely not swollen, its fully flat :\
besides this I put out the battery now and put it back and it is showing only 2% percent of battery so maybe my battery is wrong
UPDATE: after uninstalling the pro version of Battery Indicator there were no random shutdowns at all, but the free version is fine o.0
Dear fellow enthusiasts,
since a couple of days, I'm experiencing sudden device crashes when I'm using it for network related activities, mostly over the 3G network (for example, I'm typing out a message on the Facebook app, and the phone goes into boot loop or simply "shuts down"). I had only recently upgraded to the 4th beta build for the Cyanogenmod 9, hosted here on XDA , so I suspected it would be related to this. However, upon reinstalling both the previous version and the new mod from absolute scratch, the issues remained the same.
I had noticed that after each crash, the battery charge displayed as very low (2-6%), whereas I'm certain the charge should be much higher. So I thought it might be some sort of corrupt battery-cache issue or something.
However, and here's my actual question, I just now noticed that my I9001 battery is slightly bulged, on both ends. This bulge starts just above the white printed SAMSUNG lettering, and it ends just bellow the QR code. I can't for the life of me remember if or not this is normal, so could someone please confirm this for me?
And while we're at it, could a faulty battery affect my performance as such (making my phone crash etc)?
Thank you very much in advance for any help or information anyone could give me.
I confirm, battery is slightly bulged in those places but it looks like a production "thing" to me (I hope I understood what you mean), no need to worry, I guess. Looks like corrupted battery stats, try to wipe it via recovery (phone fully charged, plugged in - then wipe battery stats). After that, i recommend one or two full battery discharge - charge cycles. I've noticed hovever, that after each full factory reset I have for about 20% better battery drain, than after flashing many ROMs, kernels and updates (cache and dalvik cache wipe only), my battery drain is getting pretty annoying. Try a full factory reset, if wiping battery stats didn't work.

I have the exact same problem with my sgs i9000-gt.
My phone turn off itself ( no restarts, its a complete shutdown ).
First, I thought i might be a problem of GB 2.3.6 rom i was using, so i updated to latest cm10 but the problem persists.
If you restart the phone after the shutdown than i shuts down within a minute again.
Also the battery drain is pretty fast. I notice the same bulges on the battery as reported in this post.
I did the battery calibration thing as some people suggested, but that does not solves the problem. However, it got rid of the fast changes in battery status which was happening before. Like when you restart after shutdown at 80% battery status, it will show like 2% battery left and after few minutes of charging it would boost back to 80-90%.
But still the battery drain is pretty fast. It discharges from 98% (i cannot get to 100% charge, 98% is highest) to 50 % within an hour, just idling.
And when i am around 40% or so and if i recieve some message and try to open a app it shuts down again.
I have ordered a new battery just in case. Will update here if that improves things for me. But i will still like advice on which is a more economical kernel and rom for i9000-gt? Some people suggested slim bean + semaphore on some forums but i would like to have some more concrete advice before i change more things without knowing the source of the problem. I would be grateful if someone can suggest what is best to use with some details( version, etc). Thanks for that in advance.
I thank you all (users + developers) for all the useful information provided on this forum, i learnt a lot although i still am not able to fix my problem . And I hope someone might come up with a concrete solution for this problem. If there is a solution which I might have missed, I thank you in advance again and hope you will be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
cheers
update: the phone stays alright if u dont do anything on it, but the moment you being doing something on it other than playing with system settings, like run some app, especially something that uses network / wifi, it shuts down. none of this happens though while its plugged in. it happens only when its on battery.

today my new battery arrived and all the forementioned problem seems to be gone with the new battery, my phone seems to be working fine for last 5 hrs without any restarts or crazy battery drain. will test the same with custom roms again. As of now it only seems that problem was the battery.

Hi Guys,
I have bought my Galaxy note GT N7000 more than an year ago. I still consider myself as a newbie to android and I still have Gingerbread 2.3.6 on my GT N7000.
Everything was working fine until recently the battery was draining a bit more quickly than usual. Charging to 100% is also very fast taking only 45-60 mins. Normally it would take 2-3 hours previously. I observed this odd phenomenon only a month ago. It was the time when I download many GO Locker themes free using GETJAR. Please note that I downloaded many apps that GETJAR asked me download and I downloaded apps only from Playstore. It was also during this period that I put a Transcend Micro SDHC 16GB class 4 card into my GT N7000. I also have tried removing many apps that got via GETJAR but still the battery drain issue is present
Today I was hearing music and playing temple run, When the battery levels goes below 30%, the screen begins to flicker. However I ignored this and continued playing and the flickering frequency was increased and there was constant flickering when the charge was around 15% and finally when the charge was around 11% the phone was powered off automatically. Even I tried to power on, it would not come and then I have to remove the battery for a few min and placed it back and powered the device and only then it was powered on.
I'd appreciate, if anyone could let me know how to troubleshoot these issues. Please note that I don't want to factory reset my GT N7000 as I want to retain all my apps as well as Games data without rooting.

Mine died after 14 months, the battery began to swell and during usage i think it heats up and comes away from the contacts.

Same problem after updating to JB official ROM
Hi,
I have the same problem after updating to JB official ROM. After the screen flickers, the phone turns off, and when I turn it on again, the battery level drops insanely. If turn on again, I have another battery level, until screen starts flickering again. This happens over and over again...
Once I plug it in, it starts behaving "normally" and after 2 or 3 hours, it starts this crazy cycle again.
This didn't happen before the update.
Any ideas?

Regards,
K.Ramesh Karthik.

This exact thing happened to me just recently (Note is from original release batch, so nearly 18-month-old battery) - replaced the battery with an official Samsung one off of Amazon UK and it stopped. Make sure you get one from a decent supplier, or the "fulfilled by Amazon" one: first time I got a dud battery that wouldn't even turn on.
My battery was bulging - it doesn't fit in the gap properly and the back cover has a bit of play that was never there before.
same here..
only yesterday...new battery..2 months old?
It happened with me even with ics, my phone came pre installed with. But flickering only happens when my battery reaches 1 percent. Usually 2-3 mins after it reaches 1 percent. And then soon the phone turns off. Basically it happens just a few seconds to a minute when the phone is about to turn off. Otherwise it doesn't happen. This is my 4th note. It never happened on my previous 3. Hope that helps.

I'm having this same issue now... I've ordered a new battery from Amazon.... hope it solves the problem
If the battery drains like hell, and it's bulging, get a new battery. It solves the problem. I had this problem last week, and new battery got rid of it.
Me and my wife bought our notes at the sane time but her battery lasted a few months longer than mine did.
Seems like a new battery after a year or so it's inevitable.

Same here battery 16 months old
Same here, my battery is 16 months old (now having a bulge too). Screen flickers @lower battery levels pretty much every time, though never when phone is connected to charger.
It seems Samsung Battery Life is less than Nokia
same issue exactly appeared after 17 months of buying.
I was charging the mobile via Car Charger which reduced the battery life.
after buying a new one, it worked OK but to be in safe side I upgraded OS to ICS.
It seems Samsung Battery Life is less than Nokia !!!!
The same problem
Actually i do have the same problem 5 days ago, mine is 15 months old Galaxy Note holding Jellybean 4.1.2 XXLT5 ofw . I asked help from specialist in mobile phones and he told me to change the battery immediately , so i asked for the battery (Original one from Samsung retailer) and it will be delivered for me this Monday. I'll keep you informed by details.

I noticed also the flickering is accompanied by heat in the device processor , at the end of the discharging process (20 % 10% battery signal) or while surfing the 3G for longer time . sometimes it shut down suddenly
I own a Samsung galaxy S advance for the past two years now.
Still on Gingerbread 2.3.6. India unrooted. Past 3 weeks I was visiting USA.
I was using a AT&T Go-phone there.
What happened is my phone always switched off while I was using it. Just like THAT! I was thinking because I was using WhatsApp on this phone, I thought maybe cause I have a different number for WA and so WA was continuously trying to identify the number whenever I was on-line.
Specifically, the battery used to drain from 75 or 63 or 47 % right down to 4 %!!!. And when plugged in, in off state, the battery used to get charged to full within seconds (the indicator showed full 100%). After I switched it on, the phone again switched off. This happened quiet a few times and so when I returned to India, I uninstalled WA reset my phone, formatted the USB storage and used a few apps to recalibrate and determine the "health" of the battery. Also I noted the time for it to switch off. I was around 2 and a Half hours which means actually the battery drain and switching off randomly continued even after factory reset.
Now here are the questions
1)Has the battery gone beyond its life or is there a problem with the software or is there some bug that is killing the battery? Just a small note here, the battery is kinda swollen
2)Also, what should I do, buy a new battery or install new software (custom ROM or something else) depending upon the ROOT cause from the above question.
Please help.
Thanks indeed.

Thanks for the prompt reply,
Yesterday, I charged the battery (phone) and I didnt install WhatsApp. I left the phone in flight mode and just let it out for "idling".
For a good 7 hrs it was as it is and then I installed WA and bang! switched off.
Do you reckon that, the application uses a lot of juice so much so that the remaining battery dies off instantly? (now that the battery is in bad "health")

Indicator probably shows non correct value. Or it shows, but battery is so weak now that little consumption of energy drains it that much...
Thanks
