I recently canceled my old number with sprint and then added a new line with the nexus s 4g on a new number. I am unable to verify my new number with google voice however I have tried and I'm getting voicemails to my new number on google voice but I can't check them until I log onto the computer.
any Help?
have you checked your forwarding and other options on the google voice page?
Some of them are kind of hidden-- anytime it says 'advanced' settings, check in there as well.
(This should probably go in the Q&A forum section).

Ya I try to check my new number to have it forwarded but it won't let me until I verify it. I put it in this forum because it is an app but you are right it could be moved to Q&A.
It sounds like it might not be specific to you or your device - have u checked out the google voice forums at google groups? You might have some luck there. I'll post if i find anything.
. . NS4G . . CM7 . .
YA I posted over there too. No luck yet.
Thanks

Hi,
Does somebody know if it is possible to show your outgoing Caller-ID per category?
I know the defaults options for Caller-ID are "all, none, contacts only".
If it is possible to set this per category, has somebody already seen a piece of software which handles this?
I have already looked around in the forum and on Google, but couldn't find something like that.
Some phrase in Google told it could be done with Vito QuickContacts, I downloaded it but did not find such option, maybe it was for other phones only...
Thanks.
I would also like to know this, it would be Veeeery helpful
The "contacts only" option is not working for me, it's the same like "no one". I would like to see at least that option working.
But, Caller ID is a feature from a mobile operator, and honestly I can't see how one can control it via software.
Settings - click on blue Phone icon
select Services tab
select Caller ID
Click Get Settings
wait....
then shows options:-
Everone,
No one,
Only to Contacts
probably the best you can do
You could write your own program to handle contacts for you, and include setting such as these
ok, would somebody provide that program for some of us, not programming saavy.
So apparently voice actions doesn't work for a large portion of the installed user base (as can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/2vcnk9l)
voice search correctly hears the commands but doesn't do anything except turn them into internet searches.
Rather frustrating (and another dumb fvckup by Google?).
Installing/reinstalling doesn't make a difference.
Language selection doesn't make a difference.
So far there seems to be no solution ... so this $600 paper weight can't even do voice calling.
There's a difference between 'Voice Search' and 'Voice Calling'
...and it does FREE voice calling thanks to Google Voice.
Odd, mine works,i wonder if the people it doesn't work for have contacts checked in the search options

LOL that would be hilarious.
Believe it or not, I've had this problem in a very odd way. My nexus one works perfectly with all voice commands, but my dad's would not recognize anything I said. I even tried alternating between the two phones - mine would get it perfectly, and my dad's would not get anything. I think it got fixed with the voice search update.
Initially when I tried it, I thought it sucked since it didn't seem to recognise my actions... would always search instead of call... Then I went to the Voice recogniser settings and changed the language to English (Generic) and from then on, it's been working like a charm!!!

BINGO! Cheers, changed to English (Generic) and works perfectly now!!!
Thanks
Had to do the same when it first came out as well.
Google's blog says that voice actions are only available to US English speakers, but it seems what they really meant was 'available to anyone but the English'
Yeah, it's rather strange... I tried English US, English UK and English India... and I'm pretty sure I can pull off all three accents well enough... but strangely, none worked. AFAIK, English Generic seems to be the key to getting this to work ATM...
Tried: English Generic, English US, English UK - no difference, doesn't work.
Contacts is enabled in search.
And it definitely recognizes the command correctly since it shows it as an internet search item. It just doesn't search contacts first.
Uninstalled and re-installed multiple times as well.
Using "Send email to XXX" opens emails but puts "To XXX" into the email message body (instead of correctly pulling the XXX contact from contacts and putting that contact into the To field).
I have this exact same issue and it is really getting to me. I have tried to set English US but it doesnt help.

and you have made contacts searchable?
The latest update has to be installed manually and it does not show up on the Downloads tab. Are you sure you have it updated? Search the market for Voice Actions to double check.

Yup. 100% certain.
Version shows as 2.0.1 under applications.
So I guess that is it?
No solution - just a [email protected] bug on google's end.
Here's a thought. Are you actually in the US, or are you just setting the phone to a US setting while using it in some other country?
Google's voice services use servers to do the translation and those servers may provide different services to different regions. It may not work if you aren't actually in the US (or using the US servers somehow) even if you have the phone set to US English...?
I tested your theory flarbear and it doesn't seem to be correct.
First I connected to a US VPN and I changed the language of my phone to English US.
-Voice search worked fine. Tested: "Send text to...", "Go to..." website and "listen to..." music
Then I disconnected from the VPN, still with English US as the language.
-Same results as above
Then I changed the language of my phone to Norwegian.
-Same results as above
I've tried the voice actions before, but I tried with and without the VPN connected as I might've been connected the last time. Didn't seem to make any difference now though.
Yup. "Call" and "Send Email to" just don't work.
I know for one that this is no easy task so lets come together and post your settings.
Not just saying what you sue but post your actual settings.
pbxes extensions trunks inbound/outbound servers for pbxes.org
and phone settings
sipdroid phone settings
googlevoice settings
all help and post are welcome.
Courtesy of Jiwengang:
1. You need to have a google voice account.
1.1 you google voice account setting: main forwarding: gchat has to be selected
1.2 do not choose call screening option (at least initially to get things work)
2. install Sipdroid on your device
2.1 click the "link with your google voice option on main page of sipdroid right after you installed it"
2.2 in Sipdroid setup, you will need to create an account with some provider like mine is pbxes.org
3. Have an account with pbxes.org (or maybe other service provider. but mine is with pbxes.org)
3.1 under extension: you should already have an sipdroid <200> (the extension number may be different , but this number MUST be the number in your sipdroid settings account field as "[email protected]" where 200 is the extension number
3.2 under inbound routing, you need to have a default routing which is "/"
click "/", you will see "sipdroid <200>" appear in various section, mainly "regular hours", "after hours", but there is one click which is "force regular hours", can help you simplify the setup initially to get things "work"
3.3 under outbound routing, you should see a "0 gtalk" routing trunk.
within the section, route name: gtalk
trunk sequence: 0 "GTALK/[email protected]"
4. In your sipdroid setting on your device, double check the username: [email protected]
password, your pbxes.org password.
Hope it can help in some way. Post your questions here and I will try to answer.
Lou0611:
I would like to add if you have 3CXphone:
3CXPHONE SETUP
3cxphone config for Pbxes.org.
ProfileName = Whatever you name it
User = loudemartino-200 (your pbxes login)
Password= XXXXXXXX (your pbxes.org password)
Internal server = Blank
External Server = sip.pbxes.org
STUN server= stun3.3cx.com (default, leave it alone)
Thats it.
Lou
2.1 click the "link with your google voice option on main page of sipdroid right after you installed it"
this makes it easier but that option is not there any more

Found this:
I just found out the auto set up is disabled until May 2011 due to the upgrade. You can set up google manually but you have to pay. Does anyone know how much and how to do this.
The "Create Free Account" button had to be temporarily removed until more spare capacity will be added to the PBXes platform in May 2011. However, it is still possible to create free accounts manually at the PBXes website, but adding Google™ Voice trunks requires a paid account at this time. Existing users are not affected by the change.
I think I messed up my inbound routing and accidentally deleted my "/" route.
How can I get it back? when I try making a new one I get an "invalid character" error (because I name the route simply "/").
Help!!!

I figured it out lol.
I simply had to leave the name blank.
The issue though is that I can't receive calls. Even in google chat, I have no idea why this is happening.
Any clues? I can make calls from both sipdroid and google chat. But I cannot receive calls on either.
*Update: solved.
Yeah, I knew it would be something simple like what it was.
Turns out the phone I was using to call myself was in a group which did not forward to google chat. haha, that was funny.
But yeah, I ended up realizing that I had made a stupid mistake, but in the process I learned a lot. Maybe now I could even help someone who has a similar issue.
Hi,
I can make inbound and outbound phone calls in my andriod phone using sipdriod. However, I cannot receive any phone calls from my google chat(inside gmail) anymore. Does someone know how to resolve this issue?
Thank you!

I might be misunderstanding your post, so just to clarify: there are people who you can see in the autocomplete To: field for text messaging, but are invisible in the man People app? My best guess is that you've got some contact sources deselected. In the upper left of the People app, hit the button and make sure that you've got the right contact sources checked for sync.
On that same note, if contacts are hidden from showing, why do they get populated in the text message window? For example, I don't want my yahoo contacts syncing with my Google contacts, so I leave yahoo unchecked and never syncs. However, numerous email addresses popup from my yahoo accounts when I start typing someone's name.

HTC put contact search as a different option. Under settings, choose "Search contacts by" and remove whatever you don't want.
Correct,
under my people I don't have Facebook, Gmail, Hotmail or anything checked. I don't want my phone sync with them. I only had numbers to my phone under people or contacts on the check mark I only have Phone contacts checked nothing else.
correct I hit the + to add a person type in the name and number and save it when I'm done I look for that person and they are not to be found when I just added them.

I don't think clearing does anything but hide those contacts from normal view. You're probably still syncing those contacts in (you'd have to check under Settings > Accounts and Sync). My best guess without seeing your phone setup (screenshots might help us out) is that you have your phone set to add contacts to one of the accounts that you have set not to display by mistake, and so they're all winding up in there.

where do I check this setting at?

the few people Im talking about is has them with Google / Facebook so it doesn't show them on the phone under contacts. now how do I get them off google and into phone when linked.
that's what I need now
solved the case,
when I click the plus sign to add a contact under it had google I changed it to phone when I added the person and all is good now. what a tuff one. one setting can mess the whole thing up. LOL

what settings exactly did you go for? a few guide that i've found didnt result in any success.
I found some SIP Settings with the app you recommended and managed to add my server (it's a local server), how exactly are the calls made? just dial the extension?

When placing a call it will ask you from where do you want to make the call. And just chose your SIP account.
Also receiving calls is working for me I am using voipdiscount.
I found the settings and configured an account of mine. But when placing a call it always go with one of the two sim cards and it doesn't ask which account it should use.
ALso, I cannot find where I should be able to enable incoming calls.
I set ALWAYS ASK as the way dual sim mode works, but it doesn't ask all the same.
Any hint?
Thank you.

I defined a sip account but when placing a call it doesn't ask me to use it so it seems useless as yet. Any hint? Maybe is there something else to set or configure?
Thank you.
on android 10, callingapp->settings->calling accounts->sip accounts its blank, but there is a barely visible + sign on top right. tap it and you can add a sip account.
to receive sip calls , in calling accounts, tab "make calls with" and select ask first.
also activate "receive incoming calls". (use more battery life)
