I'm currently running Darky's 10.1 final and it's great, but I've heard a lot of people rave about CM7. Is there something that CM7 offers that makes it better than what Darky offers? I'd try it myself, but I'm really happy where my phone is now so I'd prefer other people's opinions first before I invest time into switching over. Thanks!
If your most important feature is long battery life, or if you prefer to set your phone up once and then leave it as is....stick with darky's.
If you love tinkering and updating your phone regularly, want to be involved in a community effort, and prefer performance over battery life..come to cm7.
However, you never know till you try and it is very easy to flash back and forth now.

galnet miui or cm7 and why?
me also wishing to have answer for that
If you like stock Android, choose CM7 and if you like iOS, you should choose MIUI. I prefer CM7.

Which is faster and better not about the looks
Both are pretty fast.
but which is faster?
You can't compare it like this. MIUI is based on CM7. Just try both and them you can decide which ROM to take. I had MIUI for one day but then I switched back to CM7 cause I don't like iOS-looking. And CM7 is very close to stock Android and I just love it.

Why don't you try both and report back here? Give some good feed back
I've only tried miui myself, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.
I tried but i cant find any differences
Try both of them few days and pick the one you like. I prefer cm7.

If you can't find any differences on speed then it's up to you whether you want the stock android or iOS style.
its a matter of choice.. i would recomend trying both n deciding for yourself..
i personally recomend galnet miui.. using it over a few months...
i tried them both and i definitely goes with galenet miui
it's easy... miui is an improvement of cm7. and when you have a great support
by the dvelopment himself, and this is a man that can release a new verision
every 5h because little something was wrong, there is no doubt.
But I have to say that the support with CM7 isn't bad, it's quite good. atinm helps you in the CM7 Q&A-thread to solve your problems.

I have noticed that when I click a button, I usually have to wait from 1-2 seconds before I get a response. Would lagfix take care of this? I'm running stock Froyo.
As many have stated all the lagfix does is help fix the very slow rts file system, it most likely would not help in your case.
Best thing to do is delete unused apps, and reboot the phone every day or to(seems to help mine out, cant guarantee results)
Also if you havent needed root in 5 months you probably don't need it
Unless you want to use opitimised roms, I dont see why you would need to root. Check your memory usage delete unused apps and reboot the phone ever once in a while.
My honest opinion, no reason to have an android phone if you are not using roms

Gonna have to agree with mcord here. had to go back to stock froyo for about 5 hours (didnt have all my tool to get back my 2.3.4 ROM) and it was horrible.
you might not be up for it but i really recommend flashing a Froyo Custom ROM from one of the xda DEVs. you'll love your phone and be amazed that it can be so much smoother and responsive.
First thing I did after i rooted was flashed a new kernel to overclock. Performance increased but battery life was poor. Then my first rom was cm7..been hooked since..tried miui once then went back to cm7.

This is what lagfix can do for your phone.
Im using stock mosaic V 2.3.4 rom with no overclock.

Providing arbitrary benchmarks does not seem like an actual reason to employ a lag fix.

No a Benchmark score is not the best example to lag fix your phone ,but the more power you get, plus better battery life and, better perrformance are great reasons to lag fix your phone. I just posted the quadrant score so kb0npw can see the increase performance from normal rfs file system to ext4(lag fix).

I dont think he thought it meant everything, he was giving a simple before and after which showed some improvement. Quadrant can actually be pretty useful when trying to gauge what effects certain changes have on your phone, say you score a 1900 before you change 'x' and then 2200 after that change, then you know its increased performance somewhat and youre moving in the right direction. How much it has increased your performance is debatable, however. My point is quadrant can be a useful tool when making changes on your phone if you take it with a grain of salt.
EDIT: To answer op's question, Read up on some custom roms and flash one, the difference is phenomenal and you'll wonder how you went 5 months without them. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me and I'll see what help I can be
Hi guys,I have just come from evo 3d, and have been with Android from the start, and had HTC for years, but this is my first Samsung phone, and I love it, I'm rooting this on Wednesday, but I have no idea what room I should download, obviously it has to be stable, and great battery, and coloured menu theme Buttons, etc etc, I was using Leedroid, and coredroid on HTC, my phone is unlocked and gsm model, and just been upgraded to 2.3.6, if any one can suggest a great room I would appreciate that.
Many thanks guys.

Ah, a fellow former 3d user.... I'm using rocket, so far best I've ran for myself. It's fast and I'm overclocked to 1.6
ps. This should be in question and answer for future reference

To be honest; I've been using quite a lot of different ROMs and solutions
but, every time, I'm coming back to 'Cassie's ultraLITE Note'.
Lightning fast, the longest battery life, just really good!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365587
Just give it a try, follow the advices from the second page, and you will be not disappointed.
Success!

cant agree more on this
oh btw this thread should be in the General Section !!
I'm really happy with Romow with AbyssNote, long battery life, and really fast!
Currently on MySam 1.5, like the liteness of the rom and ability to install removed apps through the nitrality app included in the rom.
Battery life is great as well with this rom and abyss note kernel v2.1

Let's say experianced noob ^^ well for a basic user, you can in fact use both... more battery, stock stability and compatibility are on zeus side. About more features and feeling cool and wanting the latest, take CM10 But you really should at least try both or even more. It took me really long to decide and in fact i am still changing quite often, to check out new features and development. Just install one, set it up to your needs, try/test it, back it up, flash another one, try it and decide whats best for you. You should also try ICS repack. If sms works fine for you, it should be one of the best daily drivers available till now (at least I liked pretty much, but sms doesnt work for me...) so have fun

I used zeus for performance and stability.. now im using cm10 for the looks and new feeling
I've already tried both and I can honestly said that Zeus is my fav. CM10 is still very buggy...
I used Zeus untill Aokp ics was released and now i'm on Aokp jb and i have tried cm10 to.
If you want stability use Zeus.
If you want to be up to date use cm10
well said by nooby and romwiz
zeus is more stable and cm10 is still a little buggy
i personally stopped using zeus since a week and am pretty happy with miui and cm10
if you don't game much, go cm10
if you game, go zeus and it has the same looks
I have tried both of them.
personally, i think Zeus is more suitable for me. It has a better performance and stability.
However, if u want to try the new functions, just go for cm10...

I think ZEUS is for daily use (6.4 or 7.03) and all ICS, CM10 or whatever, you'll have to make some compromise in using your phone (no gps or no video, not being able to install the apps you want...).
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the notification bar's function shortcuts in zeus, like in cm??

It's possible. Use the quick panel icon in the application drawer.

My girlfriend currently has this phone and she is complaining about how laggy it is, glitching and the battery life is horrible.. Otherwise she loves the phone. I was wondering what I could do to fix that. I was thinking about rooting it and deleting some of the bulkware that's on it and hoping that should fix it. I ran a app cache cleaner on it the other day and some of the apps had several hundred MBs of useless cache on it.
What would be the best way to spring this phone back to life? Root and clean up the stock ROM, or Root and install a custom ROM?... If so, what's the best ROM?
I use my note as my daily driver but still use the cappy as a back up and as dedicated podcast mp3 player. Best thing I've ever done is put slim bean on it. It's in the dev section.

After being on a gb rom for a long time, I made the jump to a jb rom and it has breathed new life to this phone. It's amazingly fast and smooth. I'm running the 4.1.2 slim bean rom and it's excellent. It's practically feels like a new phone.
I think installing any of the jb roms will make this device amazing.

I've heard Good things about slimbean, but have not tested it. Hellybean 4.2.1 right is working wonders for me! Also get a extended battery or spare. I got the gold batter which is really only like 1800mah in reality but $9 and fast shipping and gives a boost
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
Figured I've give my $0.02 as well
Ran Slim Bean for a couple weeks and then went on to try Captivating just to try it. Gave it a day, but didn't like it much. Went to CM 10.1 and have been on it ever since. Slim Bean might be as good or better than 10.1 to me, but I get better performance and stability from 10.1. Slim Bean will definitely make it feel like a brand new phone with the dpi change and all.
I think everybody here would recommend changing to a custom ROM (hey, that's what we're here for, right?). Which one is best is very personal to the user, so try some of them and see which one you like best, <strikethrough>most</strikethrough> all of the available ROMs are awesome compared to stock. The most important thing is to read carefully how to successfully flash your phone before you go at it.
