Dispite my best attempts, I cannot get the netflix app to install on my stock rooted nookcolor. It jus says; Parse Error "There is a problem parsing the package."
I have tried:
Downloading every version of the netflix apk I can find....same error
Emailing the apk to myself....same error
Putting the apk in the root directory....same error
I've wiped devlik and cache....same error
I've tried to install through Android Commander.....same error
I'm out of ideas....any thoughts would be great!
I'm having the same problem and can't find anything on this issue! Frustrated.
Are you using the version found in the market? I've never had a parsing error with a market app. The one in the market is the one you need, not the leaked version that's been floating around.

The crux of my problem is that I've never been able to get my NC to see the Netflix app in the Market. I've done the build.prop edits using both the samsung and HTC versions and it refuses to show up. My only other option in this case is to sideload the app, which limits me to the versions available in the XDA posts. I just recently got Netflix going with no problem on my Optimus V using the version from XDA that doesn't require the build.prop edit and had no trouble sideloading and installing- the same APK on the Nook fails every time. Boo.

Anyone else getting this? Tried to update several apps but got this error.
How about the problem parsing package error?
What causes these?
Thanks.

What apps were you trying to update? Parsing error means the apk isnt packaged correctly or signed I believe.
GMail update 2.3.2
is a perfect example. I tried copy/paste with Root Expl. I got the "application not installed." Any ideas?
You cant install system apps normally, you just have to move it over, set permissions, reboot and hope its installed.
Clairification please?

What's a system app vs. a 'regular' app? Does it make no difference that its a Froyo version of the app? Per Google website, GMail version 2.3.2 is designated as Froyo. With Root Explore I set permission; I just don't know if I'm doing it correctly. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
I tried to install the dcu app from Android market, and after an unsuccessful install it gave me this message. I tried copying the all to SD card and installing through astro but still nothing. Has anyone ran into this with other apps yet.

Im having the same issue with installing ebuddy from the market. I tried to use "fix permissions" in Clockwork assuming it might fix it but to no avail.

I'm getting the same error with yelp and urbanspoon on a NC too.
Any help would be appreciated
I just rooted again after boot looping. 1.3 and using Manual Nooter per instructions in that thread, fixed permissions in RM, USB debugging is checked. I'm up and running just fine, however I can't install Amazon App Store. I click on the .apk in the downloads of my browser and I get two choices to use, " App Installer", and "Package Installer". I try App Installer and I get "The application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "UnArchive" the application to try again. How do I "Archive" and then UrArchive" the application?
I try Package Installer and I get "There is a problem parsing the package".
I've reset and rooted numerous times because of boot loops issue, which I'm pretty sure I've solved, but every previous time I was able to install Amazon App Store.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Well I am not an expert by any means but it sort of sounds like a bad file have you tried deleting it and re-DLing it? You can DL it right onto the nook via email for example, Amazon will email you the link. If it's any problem other than that then it's way out of my league. Hope that works!
I've downloaded the .apk numerous times with stock browser and Opera Mini, and tried downloading it from the email amazon sent me with the download link. Same issues with all attempts.
Have you tried opening it with a file browser like Astro? Also try downloading the apk to your PC and then copy it to your Nook via USB, the Download on your Nook could be getting screwed up.
Also if you have ADB setup you can try running the command "adb install [insert apk filename here]" to try to install the Amazon Store.

Did you check the "Unknown Sources" box in Settings -> Applications?
I don't mean to be condescending, but you didn't mention it in the OP.
yes, unknown sources is checked. I figured out how to fix problem. I moved .apk's to system/app using Root Explorer and using Package Installer, they installed just fine.

I paid for it. There may some other file managers that you can use, but I just dropped the dough for Root Explorer.

For what it does it is cheap for $4. We need to pay for apps or else developers will quit building them.

Unless I am mistaken this does nearly everything Root Explorer does. At least I think I've heard that before. Having paid for and more importantly become familiar with Root Explorer, I have't actually tried it. But I do know it comes HIGHLY recommended.

Please Help - This doesn't solve my problem
Just rooted 1.3 again with both manual nooters. Everything is working fine now but I want to download Amazon App Store from The web.
It downloads fine but wont install - gives me a "your phone is protected" warning box saying that I should go to Settngs/Application and check the box to allow for outside downloads.
I DON'T HAVE AN APPLICATIONS OPTION UNDER SETTINGS. I had one when I was running cm7 - but not for a simple 1.3 manual nooter.
I have looked everywhere I can think of - can anyone help or have a work-around?
Nook Color firmware: 1.2
Clockwork mod 3.0.2.8
Manualnooter 4-5-6
I recently installed the amazon app, I had no trouble downloading some apps like Netflix, Pet shop story and another that I can not think of at the moment. The problem I am having is that I am unable to install them I keep getting an error that says "There is a problem parsing the package". When I click on the app to intall it gives me an option of App Installer and Package Installer. When I click on Package Installer it gives the parsing error and the app installer does not do anything. So my question is how do I get these apps to install and what may be causing the issue?
Thank you for your time.

MN 4.5.6 was one of the early versions, I recommend updating to version 4.6.16, LINK. A lot of the download issues were fixed in version 4.5.25. You do want to select the option for “Package Installer” when you are asked.
Thank you so much for your response, it worked and did fix the issue. I decided to delete the amazon app it was doing the same thing as before. The andriod market is working perfectly. Thank you again
Hi I am running the latest update of OaT's ROM and keep having package file is invalid error in playstore. I tried reflash rom and gapps, cleared market data, etc but the error keeps on going. Anyone else experience this and know a fix? Thanks

Try the Gapps fixer utility. Do a search for it here, I just posted it not too long ago, but for some reason, I can't attach files right now.
Edit: Here's the link to the utility thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28031262#post28031262
I got the same error on a couple updates in the play store. Particularly Google maps and Facebook...it seems big app files. I just moved some files over to 'sd' and didn't have the problem again for some reason.
