What type of workouts do you guys do to stay in shape. I personally just started "Insanity" and its kicking my ass.
Sent from my......ummm...let me get back at'chya!

I did Insanity last year for about a month, I had to stop because of an injury. I've been running and walking as of lately or playing ultimate frisbee with my siblings when I feel up to it. I played soccer during last summer. During the school year, I get inactive but walking/biking to campus helps me. So for me, sports, running/walking. I'm tempted to start Insanity again but I'm lazy.

Insanity looks like a crazy workout regimine

It hurts. The warm up itself is a workout. Anyone try p90x?
Sent from my......ummm...let me get back at'chya!

I've tried P90, but to get the most benefit, you have to follow the meal plan and unfortunately beer is not on the list. haha.
I currently workout at work and use a set of powerblocks (awesome craigslist find) at home. So there's really no plan, just strength training with cardio on the side. It seems to work for me. One more thing- eat in moderation and drink plenty of water.
a schooner is a sailboat, stupid head

eat lots of greasy meaty foods, drink and smoke. Then work it all off on the farm. How's that for a workout?

The hardest part of working out is the diet plan. Its so hard focusing and not grabbing that donut. I could do 300+ pushups a day but then go order a pizza lmao
Sent from my......ummm...let me get back at'chya!

I always hear that the key to stay in shape and look good is diet. Eating healthy and in moderation makes you look good and feel great. So, once you start working out, it isn't so hard. You really need to have a balanced diet and include a lot of fruits and vegetables. I know that is old fashioned, but I honestly believe that your workout will go really well.
As for my workout, I tend to alternate between weight lighting and cardio. I try to go at least 5 times a week, but sometimes girlfriends can take up some of your time.

I jog six/seven days a week. That does the trick.

How many miles total do you go on average in a given jog and what is your average mile time in minutes?
I probably need to focus more on running and less on weight lifting, but I don't want to lose the muscles I have! I want to do better than 3 miles in 30 minutes though.
I've gotten to where I don't have as much time to workout because I usually go workout right after work, but the girlfriend wants to do stuff. I really like doing stuff with her, but my workout routine is important. I hate going in the mornings, but it looks like it has come to that.

Losing weight has always been bothersome for me. I gained 10lbs last summer when staying with my sister (her cooking was good as heck). As soon as I went back home, I lost all that 10lbs again, I lost an additional 2 the last week. I always go up and down but since I started running again, I've maintained it and lost a few.
I rarely do eat breakfast. Maybe a cup of chocolate milk but that's it. I eat lunch which is usually a chicken salad by dinner time, I'm at work and I eat whatever's there. I don't snack often either, when I do it's almonds or fruits.
It takes A LOT of will power not to eat fast food, junk food, sweets, drinking anything else other than water. It took me a good month to adjust since I already didn't like sweets or anything all that much it got easier.
At the moment I'm about 5'1" and 121lbs. Trying to lose more before bikini season

I'm careful not to go all chuck norris, so i keep it at 10km per day. I must also note that i don't jog the full 10km, but i walk fast to keep my pulse at a high level.
The other thing i do is jogging/speed walking/hiking in the forrest and stuff with lots of variation in the terrain. Then i'll have to use other muscles, the pulse goes furter up, and i burn more calories.
I've dropped from 90kg to 75kg since march, so it's working (for me). I eat about the same as before, but not nearly as much. Small portions is the key.
I remember last year when i started and i went all Chuck, it didn't go well. If you run for your life for 1 hour, you'll burn around 1200 calories. But nobody can run at their top speed for 1 hour. Maybe 10 minutes. Now you do the math, how many calories have you burned in those 10 minutes? Not much. Are you going to do this every day? No.
So, if you decide to walk/jog instead, you'll easily manage 1 hour. That's about 400-500 calories burned. Can you do this 5 times a week? Easily! Now take the 500 calories and multiply it with 5 (days). That's 2500 calories GONE. A grown man eats around 2500 calories a day. That means that a whole day of food is burned in a week. Now, imagine a year.
And well, this is the longest post i've ever written on my phone, lol!

I've been struggling with weight loss too. 2 years ago I was around 290 and got down to 226 in about 4 months of hardcore cardio and weight lifting. Now im back at 250 doing insanity because I want to burn off all of the fat so I can reach around 200lbs solid. I can dunk but I want to be able to dunk easier by burning the fat and increasing my vert. Im 6'2 by the way.
Sent from my......ummm...let me get back at'chya!

Don't worry, you'll make it just remember to use more calories then you're consuming. If you're eating 3000 calories a day, eat less then 3000 calories and use your body.

If you can't avoid fast-food look at a product called sensa. What it does it tells the sensors in your brain to be Fuller and eat in smaller portions. My girlfriend lost 20 lbs in 3mos and that's considering eating fast-food twice a day and no excercise whatsoever

I exercise and drink lots of liquids, like, alcohol. Seriousness aside, I only drink water, coffee and alcohol. Nothing else, save for the occasional and rare glass of OJ.
And I eat fruit. A lot of fruit. In part because I love it.

You just have to have the right mentality and avoid eating certain things. If there's a timeline I think it helps. I'm trying to lose a few more pounds/body fat by the end of June.

-Car broken into 3 times took head unit all my cds and all my change plus cost of windows over 500 bucks (I leave my car completely empty now not even trash)
-House robbed 2 weeks after I moved here, took my 42" LCD, my xbox360, my laptop and monitor...how the hell hey carried all that out with no one seeing or reporting anything is beyond me.
but i learned my lesson, I have better car insurance and renters insurance now so I'm good...
Its really painful....what about the insurance???
Damn dude, that is the one thing I am worrying about. I think they were casing the neighborhood. I live in a house behind another house, my little house could be confused for a storage area (it however does look like a mini house). Anyways my neighbor ( the one in front of me) has been on vacation for a week or two so it looks like no one is home. I hope they don't try to break in to my place at least not while I am there.

I feel your pain bud but, I have a somewhat contraversial view .... read on and follow me.
About 8 years ago I had a BRAND SPANKING new YZF-R6 - about 6 n 'alf grands worth of 600cc supersports bike parked outside my house. Along came a bunch of kids (16/17 year olds) who started wheeling it off down the road without my knowledge. Anyway, they were chased off by a neighbour. You can imagine my anger and rage. The police came over and said they could do nothing even though they knew who had tried it - hence, they told us there ages. The copper said to me:
"I wish they'd stolen your bike"
"Why?"
"They are only 16/17 years old and with a bike like that, we'd be one less bike thief in the world"
Ya know what, I *almost* agreed with him - except it would of been MY bike.
The law is there to protect yourself as well as others. People aged 16/17 do not have the maturity to handle a bike like that ..... and it was proved ..... read on ....
Walking home from the pub a few nights later a fast road round the corner was closed. Blow me, someones smashed up a Fireblade (at the time, 900cc superbike). The wreckage of the bike was there, a bent lamp post and a couple of coppers. Turns out the rider had died.
That week in my local newspaper:
"On XXXday night, a 16 year old kid dies on xxx road riding his own moped"
Yeap this was the incident that closed the road. It clearly WASN'T a moped, it clearly WASN'T HIS bike (he wasn't old enough) and why the f*&K did the paper lie about it? Oh, I also found out a few days later that it was one of the kids that tried to steal my bike.
Contraversial bit coming up:
Darwin ruled over the rider and judged him inelligable to breed, removing him from the gene pool. Ever since then i've been a big fan of Darwin, specialy when it comes to car/bike thieves - even now, I can feel my blood boiling, face going red.... hope these thieves all get whats coming to them, painfully, just not taking out innocent by-standers in the process.
:O ouch. I'm only 15 and I was thinking of getting a suzuki gsx 600 next year when I get my license. It's not that hard to control. It's just that people are too stupid and they HAVE to show off somehow and lose control and crash...smart.

Even though a GSX-F (i'm assuming you don't mean GSX-R) is old, its still very fast for a new passer. Not sure what country your from but when I passed my test a GSX-F 600, for that matter any 600, you need needed to be 21 years old here in the uk. Thats for a reason and a very good one.
If you think its not that hard to control and treat it with that candid attitude then, you will be in hospital... if your lucky.
Not trying to be rude, just don't think you really understand how dangerous they are.

Just a personal rant

This is just a personal rant, I have been going through hell lately and was wondering if anyone else out there could relate in some way.
Well, I don't know what to say about this month. Hell, even this year so far. I've got soo many things going wrong that I cant even keep track of it.
In short bad things keep happening and I don't know why.
In detail I haven't been working at Arabian since close to New Years because they run off the slow tourisim. And I hardly make enough at the cafe to pay my bills and have any bit of a social life. I've been broke as hell and that's never easy, but i've managed until lately. Just at the beginning of this month I started having a bit of a medical problem, though not life threatening (if infected it could be) it is debilitating, I can't sit for long periods of time, and I can't do much of anything at all really. The fact that I have had to lay here and not to anything is bad enough on its own. and to top it off I don't have any health insurance either. I have bounced around to 3 hospital ERs, 2 Walk in clinics, and even the Health Department itself. And most of them were of no help at all except making me more and more broke. They just kept telling me to go see someone else who wont see me, or wanted upwards of 3 or 4 thousand dollars in advance JUST to be seen.
On top of all that a bunch of little things keep happening that is really pissing me off, my car is dead and I don't know what is wrong with it yet (as I cant do anything.) My phone works only when it feels like it and my voicemail is messed up. my kitchen caught fire. and my dog ate something and isn't feeling the greatest either. The hospitals refuse to help me, and the specialist that I need refuses to even talk to me without insurance, which IF and only IF I get approved for medicaid I will be able to get anything done at all because regular insurance won't do a thing about it for a year to see a specialist.
On top of any of that I haven't seen any of my friends, or even my girlfriend in weeks. Needless to say this has been very very depressing and aggravating because I see no end to all of this madness. And I want to apologize in advance to anyone if I seem short tempered, snippy, or even anti social.
All in all this has been the worst month I think I have ever gone through.
Dude. Keep your chin up. I could quote endless aphorisms and such ("Darkest before the storm", etc.). But the reality is that life is full of ups and downs, and after you get through this session, you'll be due for a good long string of "ups."
Keep well.
I can feeel your pain. 3 wrecked my motard december 2008 and broke 6 bones in my foot. I dealt with a limp for 6 months before I could walk normal again. I am still fighting with the hospital as to why they never billed my insurance and still owe them money.
I got in trouble slightly with the law and had to walk to work (with a limp) for a few months in between.
October at work, someone had filled a tank with gasoline instead of diesel and it blew up underneath me when I was welding. I literally got blown across the shop and suffered a compound fractured ulna on my left arm. I had a surgery to repair the fracture with a titanium plate. A few days later for some unknown reason that plate broke, requiring another surgery with a larger, stainless steel plate. That got a staph infection under it and recently had surgery number three to remove the plate and scrape infected tissue off my bone. This last surgery left me with a partial nonunion on my ulna, requiring BMP application during surgery and a bone growth generator.
And now I have a PICC line in my arm and have to go sit through IV antibiotic therapy for 7 more weeks.
To top it all off I got laid off the day before my last surgery, and the money I have saved might not be enough to carry me through the tough times, as L&I time loss compensation is about half of my regular paycheck.
I say let her rip, because now 2009 can only look up from here! Gotta keep a good attitude towards life, its much healthier for your mind. I wish you luck man

How young is too young for a cellphone?

My son is one, (20 months exact) and he is the proud owner of a Nokia Lumia 800 (cyan) It doesn't have talk or text, and only has a minimal data plan for the sake of security in case he wanders off. It functions to me as a security measure, but he can use the phone. He plays some games, reads the nokia-enabled sesame street books, listens to music (He loves Micheal Buble), and takes pictures. He loves his phone, and loves playing some games over WiFi with me but some feel he's too young for one and today I was even insulted for giving him a cellphone. What are your thoughts? How young is too young for a cellphone?
What? 20mths?
I would have said 8yrs old minimum.
I find it incredible a child that young hasn't destroyed the device.
Must be a smart kid if he can not only look after the phone but also competently operate it.
Ultimately it's down to you to decide whether it's fine for him.
Thinking about it more, I guess it's not worlds apart from any other children's toy.

The lumia 800 is made of polycarbonate and gorilla glass. It's a tough device to break. Months ago, I even posted a thread because he tossed it off of a second story balcony and it was unscathed. Windows Phone is made to be intuitive and act as an extension of oneself, there are numerous videos of small children using it, it's not like other OSes, it's all about ease of use.

My concern is radiation. I don't know if it is a valid concern. If radiation isn't a health risk and your kid doesn't break the phone or lose it I suppose as early as possible is the right answer. I like the security idea. Frankly there needs to be some kind of tracking device you can put into your kids cloths so that you can constantly track there whereabouts. If I'm going to pick up a something I bought on Craigslist or go out with some new girl I just met I usually zip and email or text to someone I know letting them know what I'm up to in case I disappear. I like the apps that let people track your location. I just feel my current GF would abuse it.
its a nokie. those things never break. i can use one as a hammer and it will still work

Funny part is they just posted a video of the lumia 900 being used as a hammer.
The device isn't used as a cellphone, it's a tracking device, movie device, gaming device, music device, and general entertainment device, basically a gameboy on steroids.
Think about one thing. When you were 20 months old, or even 20 years old, di your parents have to have a GPS strapped to you? No, 20 years ago everyone survived somehow without cellphones. I think 16 is the right age to give a cellphone to your kid.
Dude my kid is 24 months and he has one too! Its ok!!!!!!!!! Its rly not about what anyone else thinks its how you feel about it
My daughter got her Epic 4g on her 10th birthday last year. I asked her if she wanted my Epic 4g Touch once I get the Evo Lte and she said nope...
I think it all depends on the kid and your level of being able to block, restrict, and monitor the usage. But that is just my opinion...
My youngest brother (5 years old) has mild autism. He likes to socialize, his eye contact is OK and he shows signs of intelligence but he doesn't talk, very hyperactive and repititive movement of his hands scares me. He knows how to use android phones so I'm about to buy the childpad or Kindle Fire to use it as a learning device. Is it OK or not?
Wow, less than 2 and already has a phone? That's very young, I would think 12 years and it wouldn't be anything special.

Soooo...give a baby a phone, its cute that they can navigate it. Precious.
Give an adult a phone?
They crash cars, text while driving, riding bikes, and walking, lose social skills, fall into fountains, inadvertently encounter bears, and actually cause cities to install soft bumpers on light posts simply to prevent injury from some asshole who just can wait until he/she can stop for a sec and type. When you hit the pole, just LOL. There are smartphone users and then there are smart phone users.
For a 20 month old, yeah, it's doing the trick. Generous data plan. Pretty cyan phone. Gorilla glass too? That kid is set. The poor thing.
Think about all the adults who suddenly became retards the second they got their smartphone after never having one as a kid, and think of what a retard you're turning your kid into when you hand one to them at birth, when a trip to a playground or a library could really make a difference.

ha who needs librarys he has a smartphone now the playground is a diff story i try to take my lil boy somewhere everyday im off
This is a complicated question, one which is difficult to answer because I don't have kids.
But I do have friends with kids.
A buddy of mine has kind of a neat system with cell phones for his kids and it's one which I plan on emulating when I have my own someday.
He gave his kids their first cell when they started going to school. Locked texting, locked data. It is only for emergency phone calls and he can use GPS to track the child. The phone is nothing special, an old flip phone.
Come middle school, the kid gets a smartphone, albeit a cheap one. Nothing big and grand like the Note, the Galaxy S II/III, the One X series etc. Probably something like my beat up old Evo 4g. Calls and text only, no data except at home on a wifi connection.
Come high school, the kids gets a real smartphone with full responsibilities.
I would also teach my kid how to properly use the phones to avoid malware stuff, etc etc.
Personally, I think 20 months is a little young for a phone but a phone defined as a device that makes phone calls and what your child has does NOT make phone calls, ergo it is not a phone (capable, yes. but it does not actually make calls anymore, so by our wonderful english language, it's no longer a phone). You essentially gave your kid a toy that can be tracked via GPS, so I don't really consider it giving your kid a phone. You can use that argument next time some uptight douchebag tries to tell you how to raise your child
My 2 cents
Yea a 20 month old does not need a phone. Unless ur a bad parent and can't keep an eye on him and need it to track him. Seriously he doesn't need one.

Off (Android) topic: smoke alarm just saved my life..

Massive off topic: Guys, make sure you all have smoke alarms in your home. Just saved my & my girlfriend's life. Accidentally turned the oven on (fckng ridiculous in itself that you can flick the buttons on that easily..) max. Lid was down, towel that was on it started burning half an hour later. Girlfriend was sleeping (3 am here), I should have been as well.
I noticed the smell in my computer room, 5 seconds later the alarm started. Threw the towel in the sink, have now everything open to get the smoke out.
Without it..? Fck knows..
They're at most 10$ / piece. Just saved two lives probably. Get them tomorrow !!
Smoke detectors kick ass.

I've been in a similar situation before, sort of managed to keep my calm. And I was awake already. But my girlfriend, she was sleeping. Holy fck, poor girl.. She'll remember this for a good while.
Cheapest & best safety investment anyone can make..
Thanks OP, good advice!
Kind of related.. I left a candle burning on my coffee table without thinking about it, jumped in the shower for 10 minutes and when I got out the WHOLE candle was on fire! I've never seen anything like it. Didn't even know it was possible.
So don't forget to blow out you candles as well, even if your only going to be out of the room for a few minutes.
Fire safety.

5 years ago, just closed the pub at 3 am. While waiting for the bartender who's on the phone fighting with his girl, I'm checking the window of a little furniture & gift shop across the road. I'm thinking, "hm, there's a bit of smoke in there. Ow, and a candle. OW, the fckng decoration curtain that is above it is burning!!". Called fire brigade, instant almost response, place saved with minor smoke damage. No insurance would have ever covered the stupid young girl's mistake to leave a huge candle burning after close. Poor people are still trying to give me discounts whenever I buy gifts.
Buy smoke alarms! Or have alert bar staff across the road..!!
P.S. Hate candles passionately..
Scary stuff! Glad you guys are ok. Be sure to test your smoke detectors every 6 months as well. In the US, daylight savings time is the standard reminder. Do you have something like that in your country?
I think my next move would be replacing that oven.

Good idea!
The alarms I have though do produce a short peep (very loud) as soon as the battery starts getting low. I just changed the battery in one of them actually. And, proactively, the one in the alarm that just went off..
I'll deal with the oven hereafter. Ordering child-safe button covers.
Glad you and your girlfriend are alright.

I like to burn candles and my girlfriend always gets on to me for leaving them burning xD

Having them is good in all but not without proper yearly maintenance. Check batteries and operations.

Almost lost Nexus 7 to thief at Starbucks

Learn from my mistake and never leave your Nexus 7 unattended.
Left my Nexus 7 on my chair at Starbucks and stepped away for a few seconds to throw trash away. Noticed in my peripheral view someone sitting down in my chair then immediately get up to head towards the door and my Nexus 7 in its sleeve was missing. Spun him around before he could make it out the door and snatched my Nexus 7 back which was hidden under his jacket under his left arm. It's like 90 degrees outside so the jacket was obviously suspicious.
Wow, at least you got it back. What did the person say when you snatched it back? Lastly, curious to know what city area this was in -
Taking care of your own device is your responsibility. But accidents and assholes appear everywhere. So, its a nice idea to install a reliable anti-theft app too.

Definitely - there are many out there, but I would recommend this one : Cerberus Anti-Theft - excellent and fast response support from the developer too. Rooted device extra features, May also consider an application protection addon-app to protect it from being uninstalled.

If that was me, dude would have been getting a free ride to the hospital.
You shouldn't have worried, he would have seen the 1mm of screen lift and returned it.
I know things like this happen all the time, but when it happens to you it really kills your faith in people, eh...
I would have put that person through the door and waited for the police. I have Android Lost setup and I would love to see someone steal any of my devices.
You gotta tell us what the guy did. I would have taken him to the ground and called the police.
Regardless of where it happened you're going to run into thieves anywhere. Ironically, I always keep it with me except for that one time because the trash can was only steps/seconds away. Lesson learned that thieves eye your property and are quick when the opportunity arise. He said something to the effect that "he just sat down" (whatever) and was apologetic but probably not because he was sorry but because the incident attracted attention so there were eye witnesses and he was on camera so he probably realized he was better off scurrying off with tail between his leg rather than resist and wait for the police to show up. Get the feeling he's a seasoned Starbucks property snagger so he'll probably be back another day to target others. Thanks for the tips on the post-theft apps. Fortunately, I had pattern screen lock enabled to protect personal info/data and prevent unauthorized Google Play purchases.
If someone comes to your table asking for directions then puts a big map down on the table, they're after your phone, or your tablet, or whatever else is under the map. I've seen this scam worked in Starbucks.

I hope you made a scene and made him very uncomfortable so he doesn't come back to the same Starbucks anytime soon. The Starbucks I frequent has the same regulars, we all visit at roughly the same hours, work from Starbucks, and we all look out for each other. What a scumbag, he knew what he was doing.
Don't leave your anything unattended.
Life lesson learned.
This is a good reason why it is always a good idea to install an anti theft app or some form of mechanism.
Makes me lose faith in humanity when I hear these stories.
This is why I'm always skeptical of people in general when I'm out in public. Being naive only gets you in odd positions.

Obviously we should all be hostile to each other because of the few.
I'll be a less paranoid and more outgoing person and risk losing those $$$. No one ever died losing 200$ or 1000$.
Dude you gotta be more careful. The Nexus 7 is so small you can just stick it in your pocket. That is what I did last night when I was at the movie theater watching the 2012 DCI Drumcorps show. It was almost 6 hours long so when I went to the bathroom I took my Nexus with me. Heck you could even tuck it under your arm if you had it in a case.
At least now you will be triple careful .... until the next time that is.
I have a friend who works at a local middle school here in Northern VA and the school tells all of the parents, "do not have your kid bring cellphone, games, tablets to school or if you do lock them up in your locker." They are routinely stolen and the parents come in complaining.
I bet he thought it was an iPad. Because the current Apple v Samsung trial has shown me stupid people think everything is an iPad.

Funny story, when I first got my SGT7, i decided to walk down to a friend's house at night. I didn't pull the tab out of my pocket until I was almost to his house, but shortly after I pulled it out, some kid ran over to me pretending he had a gun. Turns out he thought I was someone else, we had our laughs, and he happened to also be heading to the same house as me
I would of held him in Starbucks waiting for police to arrive to arrest him. What he did was a crime. Took something that did not belong to him. He should be punished.

You were very diplomatic.
All I can say is if it was me, it would have been his unlucky day!
