So long story short my fascinate has turned into a thunderbolt and now I'm wondering if I should return it to get the revolution that comes out tomorrow. I took the thunderbolt right away since my favorite devs are already working on this phone, but it appears that the phone isn't very stable.
I haven't experience random reboots yet even after the phone applied a update right out of the box....I have experience some issues with the 4g staying connected although it seems to fix when I turn on and off the mobile data.
So I've already dealt with a binged phone before since I had the fascinate and that was fixed in the first month, my question is are there any other bolt users thinking the same thing after using the bolt?
My sig says no. sorry. nuh uh. nope.

Love this phone....LG is garbage...u might see me bashing the phone...but I love it
Bing on an Android phone makes me lol. So that's a no from me. I know that it's "fixable" but why do it in the first place :/

Google has nothing to do with that, VZW is the reason that Bing is becoming the new search engine for their phones. Why they would do something like that is beyond all of us...
But to answer the OP post, both phones are very much alike. There is a strong dev community for the TB already, where with the LG it's questionable. I haven't read up much about it but I don't know if it comes with a locked bootloader or not. If so, TB all the way, if not, I would say it's all about your personal preference.

I know this, it just sucks they want to further ruin the Google experience by belittling it with Bing, let alone all the crapware they install on the phone.

i am also thinking about these two and i am just waiting on the dev section of the revolution to see how it is and if it can rival the dev section of the t bolt

There are 500 Million reasons.
According to the Register, Microsoft has paid Verizon Wireless $500 million in a five-year search deal to make Bing its official search engine on most smart phones, like the BlackBerry Storm II.

If you have problems with reboots, try flashing another radio. I did and the reboots stopped.

from what i've seen, a dev community for the revolution has been nonexistent. i can't find one anywhere
Ok, I traded the Thunderbolt for the Revolution. I do not recommend the Revolution at all. First, it takes forever to charge (its about 25% as fast as the thunderbolt to charge). The default keyboard is garbage. It doesn't have the new Android market (uses a version of the market that was updated months ago) and is missing some apps that are normally on the market (in my case, it was missing one that I had paid for). There are some compatibility issues with some apps. It also lags occasionally( often lags when ending a phone call)
The major downfall for the Thunderbolt is its battery life, but that can be fixed with rooting and installing a custom rom. The Thunderbolt is a much better Android than the Revolution. The only thing the Revolution has going for it is that it comes preloaded with Netflix.
I will be trading in the Revolution within the 2 week period and trying out a new Android. Anyone know if Verizon has a limit on how many times you can trade a phone in within 2 weeks before they cut you off. If they don't have a limit, I will keep trading it in until the Bionic finally comes out.
I simply don't understand why anyone would chose the Revo when the Thunderbolt exists. The Charge I could understand for its screen and battery, but the Revo is inferior on almost every spec. It is a phone that was released out of sequence.

I've gone from the At&T Tilt to the Captivate and it is the best phone I've ever owned. I don't like everything that Google does but business is business. As far as the droid os is concerned I wholeheartedly love it. I'm an oldskool Linux user and it is a nice to have a phone that has a similar architecture.
Quick question, since I have rooted my phone does that make my phone more vulnerable to the nasty stuff out there?
Love the XDA community, thanks for the help!
Regarding your question about rooting, as long as you have the whitelist application SuperUser, you should be fine from anything as that app will ask your permission every time something asks for root access. But beware what you allow root. If you run some app that wasn't supposed to get root access from a source you're unsure about, deny it and see what happens. You can also go into the app and clear it later.
Thanks for the advice, I noticed that the Market has an allow in SU for 'various packages'. I disabled that as I have no idea why they need root access.
I just got my Otterbox Commuter case and at&t screen protector. Google should be arrested for serving up crack in the form of hardware devices.

I agree with your crack comment. These phones are way to much fun, and definately addictive to play with.
I went from the iphone to the captivate and I love it so far. There is a few glitches but it has to do with Samsung more than the OS.
yeah just wait till you start flashing roms just follow the instructions and you will be hooked ....i mean fine....lol these phones are real fun to play with i have three and my family loves them especialy the sound when you flash a rom that has support for voodoo sound.
Heh I went from a really crappy dumb phone (Sony k790) straight to my Rogers Captivate.. And man what a change lol.
After just one or two days I got a custom ROM on there.. And now I'm just addicted to trying different ROMs

You would be amazed how do those devices hook up with linux OS. I personally used ubuntu all the time and I'm discovering new things about this phone almost everyday yet a long way ahead.
Rooting is just like "sudo" command on linux, have to think twice when you grant super user access particularly item s you get out of the market, otherwise it is safe.

Hey, just read the new features in ios5...they really are behind the times innit :-0.
Apparently coming in Autumn to most newer idevices is a pull down notification menu, ota updates, ota syncing, camera shortcut on lockscreen, top volume rocker can be used to snap pics, iphones own version of bbm just for iPhone devices.
I read it and thought wow, they really playing catch up with android, I used to have an iPhone but got bored really quick with their locked down rules and such.
I love my android phone and will be sticking with android for a good while yet but each to their own as is said.

i read that to and started laughing..... iOS5 = fail
I know but yet the sheep will all say how magical and revolutionary it all is with those updates.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G running CyanogenMod 7 using Tapatalk.
It just made iOS a worth contender to Android IMO.
iMessage was the only thing that i would deem "magical".
Completely slaughters BBM.
What's perhaps the most frustrating is that Apple is suing Android phone producers left and right, down to the packaging being to similar on phones like the Nexus S.
Yet here, they even copied the 3 little bars! It's a flat out copy of what Android has been doing for years.. they mixed in some WebOS with the swipe to clear, but who knows they could of gotten that feature from CyanogenMod.
Notifications on the lock screen? TouchWiz and Sense 3.0 anybody? It's even more ironic because of the lawsuit with Samsung over "copying".
I mean... come on.
I honestly don't understand why iphones are so hyped up, I'm not the only person to say that they boring, but if u look at the sales sheets u will see that they still flying off the shelves, I know its Apple
But surely just a name can't make that many people go out and buy one?? Like I said I used to have an iPhone, and that probably happened cos I didn't know much about phones, but once I switched over to android and found out all the great stuff u can do with ur phone... It just makes sense to have an android device innit??

Had a pal switched form a Desire to a iPhone 4, don't know why he did it.
(before I got myself the Captivate)
1. Brand name, idk (stylish, herd mentality, Job's distortion field)
2. Some want things to just work. They don't bother to tinker and what not.
That's about it IMO.
I see nothing in the iOS update that even a horse talking out its ass could call revolutionary. The Notifications are from Android, without the necessary clear all button, the camera button on a lock screen is still one more button away from a camera then winphone 7, my calander, gmail, and contacts are already all synced OTA to my thunderbolt, G-Tablet, Netbook, and desktop, and the "magical" messaging service will be just like facetime. Nobody I know has ever facetimed in this whole year. Dropbox is also fine for my documents, and no new hardware at all, so I get happier and happier with my thunderbolt with every day.

I was thinking the same things as well. They blatantly copied Android notifications yet they are quick to sue others over icons.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G running CyanogenMod 7 using Tapatalk.
I've got an iPhone 4 and the reason I switched from Android to iOS was basically because iOS does everything I need it to do and it does it very smooth. The apps look ten times better on iOS IMO too. I'm still a huge Android fan but iOS just works the way I want my phone to work. Nice and simple.
The only thing I'm looking forward to is the iMessage or whatever. Everything else has no real effect on me. I do think the reminder thing is pretty cool though but I'll never use that.
No doubt iFanboys will argue that the notifications are better on iOS now when clearly Android is miles ahead. Seems like Apple are just following behind now. Sure most of the apple fanboys don't even care about that, after-all, it's Apple right?
One thing I was dissapointed in was no change to multi-tasking. Oh well, there's always jailbreaking.

Wanted to know is anyone in hero withdrawal??? And hows everyone who has upgraded enjoying the 3vo??? Cons and pros compared to hero. I chose to start this thread because if any users are due for an upgrade can get a general idea of what to expect. Also just to have some general discussion on both phones. I loved my hero it was my first android phoe before it I never knew xda existed. It all started in a sprint store when I went in to complain about how slow it was becoming and I was regretting getting the phone and since I was still under 30 days I almost swapped it for a Samsung. Then a rep pulled me to the side because I had handed him my business card the prior visit and told me have I ever heard of apps2sd. I replied no and he told me to google it. Well I went home and did just that and that's when I discovered xda and its been a blast every since. I started at 1.5 when I rooted and I've never looked back. My hero will always have a spot on my history shelf. I never knew it was possible that a little phone could do so much. And how its a whole different world on xda I mean I blew my mind on how many members were on here and that they do it all for the love. Never have I ever regretted rooting my hero and I'm glad that that sprint rep told me about apps2sd. I even went to the exact store to thank him but he was no longer there. Whish I could have showed that man the end results I think he would've been floored lol. But now getting the 3vo Im quite fond of the screen size especially because I wear glasses and I can take them off now and still read the print fine. That was one of my biggest dislikes of the hero such small print. I'm very thankful for the developer of spareparts and the rom developers for including it in most of the roms I've used. Also I like the feel of 3vo with the rubberized back the hero has hit the floor on my occasions because it lacked that feature. I like the charger port being on the side of the phone big plus IMO because it makes it easier to surff and charge at the same time. With the hero I just chose to disable the rotation because I got frustrated with having the cord in between my fingers when I wanted to surf in landscape. Also I love the fact of the 3vo's buttons on the bottom are flush and has no clicking sound. I was always afraid of to much wear and tear on the hero's button would one day catch up to me. What I don't like is the big stupid as camera button on the side I seem to activate the camera a lot and I haven't figured out a way to disable it yet. Probably can't. I liked the heros option that if you wanted the camera you had to select the camera. I love the speed of the 3vo of course. My hero was fast as hell but can't compare to it. Well that's enough for me. Any one else???
Edit: Also if ya dont mind post what apps, launcher, and themes your still using from your hero that your using on the 3vo and how they perform and your overall setup.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
I'm using most of my apps from the hero on the 3vo. However, I can't use the ex explorer. Randomly locks up. Sucks. The htc_ime works on.it too, but hugs the left screen.
Over all, the transition from the hero is frustrating a little since I can't root or anything. So there are plenty of apps that I cannot use.
Make the switch if you can. I'll post the app list during lunch chow.
I love the phone and the performance, the screen size is awsome, but the phone doesn't feel bulky like my wifes OG Evo. Contrary to Laie, I don't like the charge port on the left side of the phone. Maybe I'll get used to it, but for the last 16 months or so the Hero has sat on the charger on the right armrest of my recliner, now doing that leaves a cord hanging across my body and it just doesn't feel normal sitting on the left arm rest. Not a big fan of the camera button either. It's nice to use as a shutter button, but awkward during normal phone usage. I haven't changed much about the HTC setup yet, but I've been busy setting up the Hero for my son. What I'm not fond of, being back on a sense rom are....the 7 homescreens (I generally only use 1), the goofy 3 button sense dockbar, and the fact that the apps I've spent so much time changing out the icons for use on the Hero and resigning are installing ok, but showing up with the original unchanged icons (I haven't yet investigated why, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference between the MDPI and HDPI displays). So the bottom line is that I'm definately pleased with the upgrade and the power of the phone, but I find myself tiptoeing out of my son's bedroom with the Hero in hand to flash something or try something new.
I have an otter box case, so I don't notice the camera button. I don't like the usb port on the side, but they have the right angle plugs you can get so it runs along the side of the phone. My hero feels so small compared to this phone. Oh, and the speed of it is crazy. I keep trying to use the trackball to move my cursor, but am slowly remembering its there. I'm still hanging around this forum to help out if I can.

I was overjoyed when I heard a rumor that the Kingdom was the code name for Hero 2. Turns out its not. I miss the smaller screen of the Hero. The 3VO is a big bad boy tho. Using Sense, Go SMS, Miren browser, Robo Defense, AndroXplorer, dropbox, sugar sync, zumo drive, audio galaxy, glow hockey, mobo player, news rob, spare parts, Verizon Fios DVR manager, and Zedge. With the extra horsepower of the 3VO I started using Pocket Casts (podcasts), My Beach lwp, music beta, ghostTown (if you're a music fan, check it out), amazon app store and album art grabber.
I bought my 3vo today, upgraded from my overclocked hero running the latest cm7 nightly. I miss the bulk in hand of the hero. The 3vo is big but doesn't fall to hand quite the same. The camera button is awkward as well as the usb placement for me.
The performance can't even be compared. The 3vo is blazing fast. Network is fast. Everything just feels instant. It's really hard to describe the difference coming from the hero. I kind of miss the physical keys and the menu unlock and the trackball. I definitely have the itch to root and flash this thing already.
In all honesty, I bought the phone out of excitement for something new. I could care less about the 3d features but would get so frustrated at watching my gf's droid x do things my phone just couldn't do. That was enough to justify the purchase. Will I keep it? I'm still not sure. I'm kind of hoping we get a couple of new offerings during the 30 day trial (SgsII, kingdom, photon) but overall I'm pleased at the performance.
I think I'm going to purchase a case (something I never did with the Hero) just to add to feel in hand. I'm definitely going to miss the hero, and will keep it around, but it was just beyond dated.

The flashing urge is not quite as bad for me.....I do still have a pair of Nooks, an OG Evo, the Optimus, and the Hero in my care, but yeah.....the Hero's still my favorite even with the tiny little screen and the silver paint worn off of all the buttons and the menu button that doesn't actually press down anymore.

Turned mine off on Friday, Haven't turned it back on. I got burnt out on having to always set everything back up after flashing a new ROM, that I finally stuck with each ROM for months at a time. All I really want is custom kernels and free hotspot and usb tethering.
It's funny you are posting this in the Hero forums. What are you trying to do? Make them all jealous!
Changed my mind.....I'm taking mine back. Can't take the stupidity in those forums, it's even worse then the Nook forums. Some guy just posted a month old link to a post that says HTC will unlock the bootloader.....Geez we didn't know
I am not getting the 3vo until august but from what I saw at the sprint store when I tried it was: THEY MADE SENSE MORE BLOATED!!! D:
I personally think that I won't be getting it until I can root/flash it before I even get home from the sprint store. >.<
I have gotten so used to not using Sense that I genuinely hate it with a passion now, so much freaking bloatware.

There's other sites besides XDA, but most good devs are on XDA, and some of the other sites just link you back here for ROMs. Just do what I do. Don't go to General or click a thread that doesn't look good.

Every HTC phone is going to have a lot of bloat. But even with all the bloat the phone is running smooth as can be. It doesn't slow it down at all. You could put ADW or LP on it and it will run 1000 times better than the Hero.

Lol dam. That's a whole lotta aps. Lol but I will check out the amzon app store. Were can I find it should I google it??

Yes google Amazon app store. Its great! They offer one free paid app a day. That is how I found pocket cast.
Ghosttown, very awesome. It takes videos from youtube and streams the audio to your phone, pretty good quality too. If you search by artist it will organize all the songs by albums, given if the video exists on youtube. Tried with the Hero and it was very choppy. Works great on 3G with the 3VO.
So happy with the phone. I have a wireless N router at home where my 4G signal is kinda weak and the phone is N compatible. 4G is strong at my work.

I understand that in it's current state it is a beta with only abut 8 hours of work in it. However, it's not very good. 2 of the 3 questions I asked it came back with "Fine, fine, I quit." and "I'm emailing you my resignation." after waiting for about 5 minutes each. The one question it responded to was, "How's the weather looking today?" to which it gave me the local weather for Baltimore... I live in Florida. GPS was enabled but it didn't even try to use it. It also took about 5 minutes for it to respond to that question as well.
Pretty fail at the moment.

Lol im in baltimore and i asked the weather and waited 5 minutes and got nothing. You must have got my answer.
I understand this is not complete yet but I have to say I am dissapoint.

I'm sure it would provide the weather even if you said "I don't want to know the weather today."
This app is so ****ing worthless its not even funny. I gave it a thourough testing and it was 0/20. Not one right answer, not even close. It knows what you said exactly though which is weird.

I think this whole concept is a stupid gimmicky worthless waste of time altogether, just designed to be a "Look what I can do!" advertisement.
I mean when you're on a bus or train, sitting in a restaurant, waiting at the barber/salon for a haircut, standing in line at the DMV or the Post Office or whatever, are you really going to start conversing with your phone like a weirdo and have everyone staring at you like you sprouted a second head?
It's not another person, it's not your best buddy (and if it is you have even more serious social problems than I do). It's a PHONE. Use your fingers to push the many buttons and poke the touch-screen. Jesus.
But, even if it's more-or-less useless, I guess I can see why it's important for Android to have the same big shingy bells and whistle that the iPhone does, for the sake of publicity and bragging rights.
im pretty sure the download i had said 'beta'. obviously its a ways behind Siri, but i think it has excellent potential. the voice recognition does well, but results are ridiculous. hell if it googled your voice command it would be able to tell you more. i would love an app that could tell me whatever i wanted to know while i was driving. i use the voice commands all the time. i text ALOT by voice. sometimes its more convenient when im doing somethin. if i could hit iris and tell it to move my 430 meeting to tomorrow, that would be the bees knees. i think u could sell it and make a pretty penny too. that being said, i think it would be hard for an android app to be that integrated into so many different devices. ONLY the 4S is capable of Siri (atm). Maybe if Googorola developed it, either or. Its absolutely possible and we do have some genuis people developing for android.
I am a bit suprised that this new app is being slated as the Siri Killer when Android has a few apps that both predate Siri and are more advanced.
Speaktoit is the one that I like myself but there are a few on the market.

I think siri is just a jimmick. A voice recognition app isn't a reason to buy a phone. If that's your main selling point, you've got nothing. Just my 2 cents

This is true, the problem is that iSheep are raving about it like, "lol i asked siri if she was gay my phone is better then some crap android"
I can honestly say, I thought it was cool at first as my girl has a 4S. But it's pretty useless honestly and google voice search does the same thing, better. You just can't ask Android a question, you have to say your search 9 times out of 10 which is fine...
Since updating to 4.2, my screen brightness keeps going up and down from moment to moment, things generally run a bit slower, the lock screen is buggy and Quickoffice can no longer save changes to files. Not exactly a forward step.
Same here buddy, lockscreen takes a long time to respond

Google released a bad update, I don't know why people yell at others for being upset. We didn't see threads like this at all for 4.11 or 4.12. Its obvious that Google obviously needs to work on this as people don't post threads like this for no reason.

If it was really a bad update, why doesn't it affect everyone? I have a stock locked tablet, and simply flashed Google's factory image.. No issue whatsoever!

I have almost only good experiences with the 4.2, generally feel more stable and haven't noticed any sluggish behaviour. Only problem Im having is with bluetooth, it won't remember profile selections for my paired devices. So everytime I connect to my phone for internet access I need to go and tick internet access under profiles

The majority of people come here for solid technical advice, and some of this discussion hardly inspires confidence. We also need confidence in Google as we have invested in their product and it is perfectly legitimate to raise concerns about the 4.2 update that they pushed to our devices
If you use Bluetooth, for example to tether, then you will have been thrown by the changes to the interface. It was not obvious how to connect, and is actually quite inconsistent in that clicking the device name disconnects which is different to what's needed to connect.
One of the advantages the Nexus has over the Mini is the 16:10 screen great for widescreen movies. It's no surprise then that loss of USB mount (a feature available when many of us decided to buy the Nexus) has hit us hard. Yes there is a paid App which might allow movie streaming but I use the USB to extend storage for the huge game files we must download and so this is a major loss.

Just like 4.1.2 but with extras

Screen brightness is an isolated issue I suspect not caused directly by Android, as most people don't see it.
Everything runs just as fast as 4.1.
Quick Office has a coding problem, not Android.
Stop.
I have only seen 1 real bug in 4.2 and that's the missing December bug.

It is most certainly NOT as fast for me, just because it is ok on your device please don't assume everyone else's is the same!
I actually love 4.2. A little lag here and there, but I owned a Huawei Ascend with like a 500 mHz processor, a Samsung Sidekick 4G with a 1 gHz processor, and a Kindle fire. Seriously Google isn't perfect (but they are damn close) they released an update you don't like, does that mean you should cry and hit the new thread button? No, it means you should just flash 4.1.2 and save server space. Especially when there are 100 other topics exactly as useless as yours. We don't need more of them.

Has nothing to do with Prism, the heuristics on the backlight seems to allow it to ramp up and down faster than it did before. In fact before the N7 seemed to be very stubborn to change levels, now it's a little too fast perhaps.
No matter what version or ROM I'm using I don't use automatic brightness. I use the lowest setting and adjust when I need to.

Hating it and loving it ? - wow these are strong words for an OS. Just like W8 people just can't work out whether its the cool thing to be for it or against it yet even though there's no need to take sides or feel possessive about it - we're all here just users equally dependant upon the working of Google aren't we?
One sure thing though - bugs will iron out but things like the way Bluetooth works now and the loss of USB mount are major hits for those of use dependant on those features for the last 4 months.
USB mounting was never part of 4.1... why are people suggesting it was? You needed root and stickmount or a custom ROM.
Stickmount will update eventually. Stop blaming Google for breaking something they never supported in the first place.
