[Q] Is it just me or... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the browser on Gingerbread truly awful?

Im gonna agree. I have problems navigating back on all gb roms, sometimes it just locks up and refuses to do anything, other times it takes ages to load pages.
I've given up on it and use maxathon browser.
Would be nice if we could use the browser from 2.2

I really hate the default browser on gingerbread, I hate it so much that I went back to froyo because of that.
The part I do not like is where I can't scroll a long page all the way from top to bottom with only one swipe. Samsung for some reason copy that crappy iPhone thing to this phone.
the reason I keep using the default browser not 3rd party one is because it continue to load when the screen is off. Yes, I only have EDGE connection.

I've also had many problems with it before i went to CM7.

Why using default browser?
Dolphin works just fine.

I find dolphin quite slow tho.

Can anyone open this page with there stock browser with no lag? If so tell me your secret when on eclair I could be pretty much lag free but now on froyo it lags.

Opened pretty quick for me on stock froyo rom. I am runjing the OverStock v1.1 kernel however, but it hasnt seemed to affect browsing.

Opens fine on gingerbread
CM7
No issue here. Fusion 1.8
I think the secret is flash. I may be wrong but on 2.1 you did not have it. On 2.2 you do. Set plug ins to on demand in browser settings. Should fix
CM7
Serendipity 6.2 opens it like butter.

How is it when scrolling? Smooth?, choppy? What about the pinch to zoom?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I have run a few roms...cognition, andromeda and now cm7 gingerbread but the browser lag does not seem to go away. This site on eclair used to have very smooth scrolling. I did a google search and have found a few people with the same problem. I have tried different browsers and opera mobile seems to be the smoothest but has a few noticable problems when opening a few pages. Some say that the froyo browser likes to keep your last page in memory at all times so when you hit "back", it is seamless, but im not sure if this is true. Any suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the feedback.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Honestly I am not sure what the issue is. First if you have not tried please change your plug in settings to on demand in your browser. That its the only thing imaginable that could be causing an issue. The browser in eclair sucks in comparison to 2.2 and 2.3 it is not even close
Secondly, stock is always an option
4 different people were nice enough to click the link, no one reported any issues.
CM7
Thanks for the feedback

I flashed back to Eclair, all of the laggy scrolling is gone and the phone actually feels more snappy. I know it sounds crazy but it is true, I'm going to update to Froyo and test the browser one more time If it is still laggy I think Eclair is for me for the time being. Such a shame that something that is improving something can wreck it, oh well.

Browser Issues

I think maybe I never notice it until now but I just want to be clear. It seems that every broswer I use does this and its annoying. Say that I'm reading a website, if I go home to open another app, when I return to the browser it refreshes the page that it already downloaded. Did browsers always do this?

Anybody. All I need is a yes or no.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
I've noticed the same behavior of all Android flavors I've played with, 2.1, 2.2, and now 2.3, so yep it's at minimum an android implementation.
I am on cm7 and use the Dolphin HD browser and it does not do that for me. If I hit the back button it will close out the browser and when I open it again it goes to Waugh I have saved as my homepage. But as long as I hit the home button then open another app or many apps, all I have to do is hit the dolphin browser button and I am still on the same page. I also have it set to DESKTOP version as I do not like the mobile versions of websites.

Thanks both of you. I was on CM7 so thats probably why I'm now noticing it.

Must likely has to do with how ram is handled. To keep the page it has to stay in the ram which could be needed if you try to open an app

Im on miui with miren browser n I don't get it refreshing.

Internet Browser question

Its been awhile since i used the stock browser. Is there any way to keep the web page from refreshing itself after the phone has been in standby or a few minutes. Sorta like hoe the iPhone 3G was.
I think the browser got worse, it only let's me open 4 tabs now and it automatically refreshes itself so it is really annoying, and force closes on me so much!

Don't use the stock browser. Its way too buggy and you have a lot of better options. Use dolphin

I was using dolphin but it would always crash or just hang. Using Opera right now.

Best browser for nexus 7

Firefox vs chrome vs Dilphin ..
Addons vs speed vs gestures, which is better in ur experience ?
I periodically try the others, but keep going back to Maxthon. Not much in the way of add-ons, but then I don't need much. The built-in "reader" mode works for most sites and gives an easy-to-read, clutter-free experience.
Boat browser, by far.

Tried a lot of browsers but stock browser is still my favourite by far. Its Quick Controls feature is something I can't live without.
I was actually getting fed up last night with chrome and chrome beta crashing every 2 seconds so i jumped on play store and grabbed a random browser just for fun, i found UC Browser HD and so far i absolutely love it! It works great in portrait and landscape and it feels like it loads pages really quick. Also, i almost forget to mention two finger swipe for adding and closing tabs and a handy little toolbar on the bottom right that you can add shortcuts to, right under where your right thumb usually rests.

I'd like to mention that for me UC browser was horrible because it spammed my devices. I complained directly in their forum and asked for ad free version but they don't have a pay version. So for me UC was out of the game.

Opera Mobile. On Presto, of course.

For me it's mostly chrome as I have no bugs and it works flawlessly with chrome on my desktop for bookmarks and tabs. Stock browser for everything else because of flash.. And the speed. Gotta love that speed.
It seems like everyone is stating something else. I think it's best to just try some and see for yourself.

Just like roms and kernels, that is the one universally correct answer.

I prefer using the stock aosp browser but on my n7 it geta wonky on every rom ive tried. It will randonly freeze up and fc and stop being able to go back to the last page. I dont have time to get around and try every rom because of time and because i have 3 users on the device so restoring is a *****. If someone could pm me a rom that the aosp browser (not chrome) works good for them id appreciate it.
Opera is amazing. Chrome is good. Firefox has really upped their game lately and I still hate stock.

Well, I use ad blocker, too. When using UC Browser the first page/start screen showed always ads. To be true, if you're willing you can ignore it... but I am very sensitive to ads. They annoy me.
For all fans of Dolphin browser ->
read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319529
Right now I'm using stock CM browser.
The AOSP browser by a long mile, IMHO... Sure, the other browsers (Dolphin, Opera, Maxthon) might have more options (lots of bells and whistles), but AOSP has the edge in terms of speed and smoothness.
For anybody not rooted or unwilling to flash a custom ROM, then Lightning Browser is the next best thing to the AOSP browser... (IMHO, of course).

Hi, youdug...
I've never experienced any problems with the AOSP browser in Paul O' Briens MoDaCo ROMs... including the CyanogenMod variant I'm currently running...

On my Galaxy 3, I prefer Boat Browser (it's unbelievable fast),
But on my n7, I use Firefox because of f-sync, add-ons and flash...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Tried almost all browsers in market and my favorite browser is AOSP browser love that speed and flash support. But sometime using Chrome because of browser sync feature is really useful.
How do I get firefox to work with flash ?
I tried installing the archived android flash from adobe website and nothing ?
I've recently switched to AOSP browser, and I'm happy with it.
I used chrome before, but got annoyed by those popup bubbles when clicking links, because it ended up showing a bubble EVERY time I'd click something.
And also I can't stand their text scaling, most signatures on XDA were MASSIVE while actual posts were tiny.
I tried other browsers as well, every one had something that bugged me (like swiping from one side would bring up a menu or such...)
I still use Firefox occasionally when chrome or AOSP won't download something or for very rare flash.

[Q]Browser is really laggy

i've owned the note almost 1 year and a half now. i love it when i first got it still love it though. The phone was amazingly smooth when i first got it on 2.3. but since i've update it to 4.1.2 my phone is terribly laggy especially in browser. i dont know why, i try different rom, including cm and slim, but the lag still exist even on stock samsung rom. so is there any fix out there? and btw i;ve never factory reset my phone i mean hard reset by removing everything on sd card, does it help if i do that? thx u. and one more thing i try different browser on play store it seem dolphin work best, but the lag is still there
That browser lagginess is so annoying, and the time it takes for keyboard to appear sometimes.. i use dolphin and the default one that comes, it's at least a little faster. Chrome, wich i also have installed is the worst one. Good browser but terrible performance.

Well that would depend of what page. Can u give me a example url page so i try with the stock browser?
