Desktop Visualizer Help? - Android Themes

Hi, I just got a Thunderbolt for my first Android phone and I'm loving it! I have a question about the Desktop Visualizer app though.
On one of my screens I want to use DV and put pictures of some bands in the widgets, each one with a shortcut to their playlist. How can I take a picture off of Google and use it in DV? Do I have to make it a certain size or file type? And how can I do this? Thanks!

you need to find the proper sizes of which sizes you want to use. search this forum for ones that are made and use those sizes you like(should be easy to find). i use photoshop but you can use any photo editing software that will allow you to resize or crop. i heard gimp is pretty good and free.

Ok I changed a picture to 350x130 pixels and it said fail to create shortcut or widget. The picture is a jpeg, should it be png or something else? Or is something else the problem

Questions about creating custom icons larger than 1x1

I searched the forums and couldnt find anything on this.
When changing the icon .png file in the apk using 7zip, if I add an icon file that would not an even resolution (1:1 pixel ratio) but use a .png that has a 2:1 or 3:1 pixel ratio, will that take up a 2x1 or 3x1 space on the home screen? I know I could use desktop visualizer, but the quality doesnt come out so great for me, and I'm kind of curious for educational purposes. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know.
Also, what would happen in the app drawer with the custom icon if it does take up more than a 1x1 space on the ohme screen.
Thanks in advance.

Gloss Icon Buttons

Ive been learning how to do my own PS type work and have come up with a couple sets of glossy button icons with text. So far ive only been a consumer in the Android world and thought it was time to offer a little something should anyone be interested.
The two zip files contain 43 button icons each. One set is a glossy carbon look while the other has a carbon fiber infield with red boarded text. Both sets are .PNG files and if you have any software which will open them feel free to make some more and or change anything you wish. I made these from scratch based upon a tutorial I found on the internet and from hear on place them in the public domain so have at them.
Here are a couple screen of then on my phone. I havent fine tuned the background but you can get the idea of how they look. Using Virtual Desktop you can scale them to any size you wish as well as link them to whatever application your prefer.
Seems im too new here to attach photobucket images.
thanks very nice work.. will look good on my DINC...
Very nice work, you earn my respect, I can just dream of something like this made by me...
Hope those who have DLed these icon buttons have liked them. Im a bit of a noob at the PS aspect of things and noticed that if I were to export the icons they will retain the same qualities yet are substantially reduced in file size. Example being one of them went from 55KB to 9KB and the zip files were 1/10th of what i offered originally. So, if you feel like it grab another set and lessen the load on your CPU.
Im working on a set of small normal size icons that match and offer system setting functions so check back in a day or so.
Added a set of matching smaller icons to the original post list. They are a little larger than normal sized icons and fit 5 across on a Droidx. Remember you can adjust the number of columns and rows in LP to best suit your layout needs.
I guess a word on what to do with all of these...
Use LP Plus allows you to resize all that you add. Download "Desktop Visualizer" from the market and install. You will find DV when you long press for widgets on the home screen.
Ive been using the 3x1 for the larger buttons but found the 2x1 works as well. For the smaller icons use the 1x1 (not the first listed 1x1ss). Once you have them extracted to a folder all you need to copy the folder to your SD card. Ive been putting them in the DCIM/Camera folder. Then when you have chosen the icon size to use you simply browse to the image and then select a function.
Some of the smaller icons need to be associated with an event rather than an application. Instead of tapping Application, choose Other and then "Activities". A new list of options become available to map the icon to whatever you want. Just take a little time and read the smaller print listed under the activity. Some of the display and sound related items are found in the Settings folder.
Ive also found that DLing an app called "Blocco" (free @ Market) and a few of their plug-ins are useful as well. There are plug-ins for Airplane mode and wifi toggle etc. If what you selected doesnt work just drag it to the trash and take another stab. I figured it out so you should be able to as well.
Added the psd file for both types of the carbon button icons. Feel free to make your own by using photo shop or similar software. Just edit the text, reposition it if needed and export the new image. Exporting the image will reduce the file size a lot and help with phone performance.
Included buttons say Market

First of all....VERY nice work. Nice and clean. Second..I downloaded the .psd zip and when I opened it, I didn't find the .psd....only the market.png files (one red and one black). I assume this was an accident, but I wanted to make an icon for TapaTalk. So far your one of the very few that have done TechBuzz and I thank you for that. If you would be so kind to either verify the .psd file and re upload it or make a TapaTalk icon, I would be very greatful. Thank You.

These are beautifull! Some green one would be cool too.

These look sick! Do you mind if I use some of these in my theme? I might alter them a little to match. Good job!
no problem, do as you will. I put them here for anyone who can use them.

Wallpaper question

All,
Where should I put my images that I would like to use for wallpapers? Even with the stock images, I noticed that depending on what menu I used to set the wallpaper, some were resized strangely.
NC 1.1 Autonooter 3.0 Zeam Launcher.
Thanks!
where you put them shouldn't impact the image size. you can put wallpaper images anywhere really. i put them in /media/wallpaper on my sdcard.
I tried saving images from websites using the built in browser and then set them as wallpaper, but that didn't work.
I downloaded Opera Mini from the market and then I could properly save images and set them as wallpaper.
Maybe there is a setting for the native browser that allows for proper saving, but I could not find it. Anyway, Opera is a pretty decent bowser so I'm perfectly happy using it.

Thanks for the tip. But, I'm trying to use my own pictures - not web images.
1200x1024 is the proper size for two screens. 1800x1024 for 3. you could try resizing before setting as wallpaper to see if that works for ya. make sure you expand the box to take up the entire image when selecting it or it will mess up the sizing.

Thanks. Happen to know the right size for 1 screen? is it 600 x 1024? (seems to be if my math is correct)
But, what I'm more curious about is where to put the files. Seems there is a /media/wallpaper on my sd and my internal. Which should I use? I want it to show up in my "wallpaper".
Also, happen to know if it is safe to delete the stock pictures / wallpapers. Some of them are downright ugly.
Thanks!
don't know about deleting the stock images. you could try... i doubt it'd hurt anything, but just to be safe, make sure you nandroid first.
ya... i've never done a single screen, but that is the right math... 600 per screen.
either place will work. i've loaded them in both locations and they work in either.

I had the same problem, solution is to download coveroid. Any wallpaper you want will just go into the coveroid download folder, and then set the wallpaper from inside coveroid. For some reason the non-default launchers cause issues with setting wallpapers, but coveroid seems to fix this.
1200x1024 is the correct size for 5 pages. When you slide from one page to another the background doesn't move by full 600 pixels. It only moves by 150 pixels.
The built-in gallery function scales the pictures in an ugly way when cropping for use as wallpaper. It's a conflict between 3 screens of the B&N Nook and 5 screens of the typical Android launcher.
I followed the sticky with tips and downloaded the Wallpaper Set & Save app. It lets you navigate for pictures through directories and sets them as wallpaper while preserving the resolution if correct to begin with. I'm very pleased with it. My wallpaper now looks correct.
Thanks for the help!
I hope to have some cool wallpapers soon. It helps to have a Pro photographer in the family.

Best place for tablet/gTab wallpapers?

Where can I get some high resolution gtab wallpapers? What resolution do I need?
It seems like you'll want 1024x1024 since the device can be rotated. I just did a Google Image search with 1024x1024 as the parameters and found all kinds of stuff. I just got my tablet yesterday but it seems like it's working well.
You should try my new "Bouncing Clock" Live Wallpaper that I just stuck on the market today!! I'm loving it on my G-Tab and Nexus One right now.

Best advice right here.
If you find they look blurry on your GTab, search the market for an app called "Wallaby".
Also Solar Wind and 3D Starfield are downright purdy live wallpapers that run smooth as silk on the Gtab.

Good advice on Wallaby! I just grabbed it tried a couple of wallpapers and it definitely helps.
Ok, I am beyond frustrated. I am rooted w/Vegan and had zero issues doing that...but getting a wallpaper to actually look like it is suppossed to on my g tab...well that is a completly diffeerent story. I have tried the 1024 x 1024 as well as the 1024 x 600 options. But everytime I find an image I like from google, open it, hold down to bring up the dialogue box to "set as wallpaper" it takes the image and blows it up! It never looks like the image I found from google. I have also saved them to the gallery thinking that the cropping would help. Well, no dice! What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? I am bored by the plain color backgrounds that came with the Vegan rom...can anyone help? Thanks!

^^^^ Multipicture Live Wallpaper (app) allows you to set wallpapers properly. Thanks to Shadowhawk2020 for bringing this app to my attention. Even Wallaby did not work properly, so MLW is the only way I know of to set wallpapers properly on the gtab.
EDIT: OP - try seaching the market for HD wallpapers and Filke HD wallpapers.
EDIT2: Check this post out for what sounds like another app to help get wallpapers scaled properly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13117070&postcount=361

When you go into your wallpapers in flick ur pics, tap on the image you want on screen 1 first and a little #1 will show up on the thumbnail image. Same for screens 2 and 3. Screens 4 and 5 if you have them. I you assign more images than screens you have available it will rotate through them in order when you swipe from screen to screen.
EDIT: It seems that I told you wrong above. I assumed that was the way it worked. I had only 2 images assigned in mine and image 1 would show on my center screen, while image 2 would display on all other panels. When I just tried what I told you above, it randomized the images displayed for the individual screen backgrounds. What I mentioned above may be a good feature request to ask of the dev.
EDIT #2: I have sent developer an email regarding this and have pointed him to this thread. Hopefully he will respond soon, either via email or by dropping in on us here. It would be nice to have him here with us to find our specific needs for our tablets.

Hi All,
I'm Francesco, one of the Flick ur Pics developers
I'm glad to join you in this great forum.
Flick ur Pics allows to choose up to 9 images from your gallery and it shows a random picture when you change homescreen (or when elapse the refresh time, if selected).
Actually you can't set exactly an image for each home screens (i.e.: image1 in the homescreen #1, image2 in the homescreen#2), but we already investigated this feature and if there's a strong request, we'll be more than happy to add it as soon as possible.
Best,
Francesco

Why only 9? I have a collection of hundreds of images that I would like to use, and would hate to be stuck to only 9. Especially since I can't get multipicture live wallpaper to install, so your app seems to be the only option I have.

Hi Francesco,
Im very interested in the one wallpaper per page. I have brought this up in another thread as well. Someone had told me to try flick ur pic but I too found it wasnt setup this way. I think there are a lot of people who are looking for this feature. It works best when you have pages set for certain things. Like a movie page, a games page, a news page, and etc. That would be AWESOME!

Francesco, so glad you could join us. I am sure you will find lots of people here in the gTab forum with several ideas to make Flick ur pics the best wallpaper app for this tablet. I am yet another that would love the ability to set images per screen. Of course you already knew that from my email.
Once again, really glad that you decided to join us. We are glad to have an active flick ur pic dev willing to take the time to get involved with the gTab community.

This is what I’m doing for a landscape orientation with a wallpaper that correctly "scrolls" from left to right and is not distorted or zoomed in on (NON HONEYCOMB ROMs ONLY!!!):
Fist download and install the app "Wallpaper Slideshow" from the market (free). You’ll use that to set the wallpaper (or wallpapers, as it will automatically switch between multiple at intervals you desire. If you want it to show just a single wallpaper, just put that single picture in the folder you tell it to read wallpapers from.
Your wallpaper’s resolution should be: 2048 x 600. To be clear that's a width of 2048 and a height of 600. You may have to crop, pad and/or otherwise resize your image.
Using Wallpaper Slideshow lets you use landscape images in their native resolution (aka not cropped) that are scrollable. Wallpapers in portrait orientation are zoomed in on the center of the image and are scrollable as well.
Setting the same 2048 x 600 wallpaper via the Android (2.3.7) interface does the opposite: portrait looks clear and is scrollable, but landscape must be cropped and is displayed zoomed in, usually off center and extra pixilated. Since I primarily use my tablet in Landscape mode I think I’d rather have the landscape wallpaper looking sharp and clear.
Other apps allow you to set non cropped/zoomed images of the Gtab’s native resolution of 1024 x 600 but usually don’t have any options allowing them to be easily “scrollable”. Wallpapers that don’t have any transaction effects look stale and desktop-y, IMO.
I’m using Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC, but everything should work the same on other non-honey-comb ROMs.
You can use images with a width resolution that's smaller than 2048 and the app will still set them up as scrollable. However, it will zoom in on them the further and further you get from 2048, making them look more and more pixelated.
One more thing, if you have USB storage turned on and you images are on your SD card (internal/external) your wallpaper may not rotate or scroll correctly. Once you turn it off they’ll be fine.
Pics show the same image file as the wallpaper.

[Q] Hand drawn style music widget

Hope you guys can help. I have several different music players on my Thunderbolt (Cubed, Jukefox, Mortplayer, Winamp, Poweramp, Mixzing) and Phantom Player control widget controling the stock Android music player. Its the closest I have found to what I would love to have.
What I would like to know is this:
Is there a music control widget that looks more like someone scribbled or doodled the controls on a sheet of paper, something that looks hand drawn? No background, and the ability to use custom text for album name and/or artist name?
What I am trying to do (im not rooted, so no pictures) is make my GoLauncher look like a note pad. I am currently using Desktop VisualizeR and SimpleText to make my icons look like they are written in lazy handwritting. And I am OK with the Minimilistic text for clock, battery and weather being more stocky. I am also using Simple Calendar and allthough its also stocky, its working.
I have the wallpaper, and my home page is really close, just would like to know if there is a widget for music control that allows that doodled, hand drawn look? Same with a clock and calender widget too?
thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.
for the clock i guess you could use mclock. if there is no handdrawn theme available there's a topic with instructions on how to make one
