Found any use for Tasker on NC? - Nook Color General

I'm just curious if anyone has found much use for Tasker on our non-phones. Most of the Tasker tasks I see seem to revolve around hardware the NC doesn't have: phone, GPS, camera.

I use tasker to tell wifi to not sleep when connected to certain networks and go back to sleeping when disconnected.

N1 WiFi policy

Hey folks,
Despite the fact I defined my wifi never to go off it still seems to be disconnected after some time while the device is in a sleep mode. I see that it's also not switched on by apps needed to be updated online, f.e. apps like weather forecast stay not updated.
I use wifi analyzer to manage my wifi.
Any thoughts how can I make wifi to be on after it's already connected while n1 is in a sleep mode?
Thanks.

[Q] App to automatically turn on tethering?

I don't suppose anyone knows of an app that can automatically turn on tethering when specified wifi access points are not available?
Like many others I dont want a data plan on my xoom so I tether using my phone when I am not near an access point. I get damned good battery life on my nexus one, but I still don't want to leave tethering on all the time. I would be nice if I could have it automatically turn on tethering when my known wifi APs are not available.
You could probably use Tasker to do this - You'd have to configure it yourself, but it would work.

Don't know of an automated way but Hotspot Toggle in the market is a good widget you can place on your home screen. One touch on and off.
I was thinking that I could combine your answers to get a solution, but hotspot doesn't show up as an app in tasker.

Without rooting your phone and having an app require root, you won't find this capability. In one of the recent major android builds google removed the ability for applications to turn on and off wifi automatically.

Need help!!!

I have been trying downloading data file for the game use the installed game apps. However, when ever i dl halfway and the screen went standby, the wifi will be cut off. Is there any setting that i can set to prevent this?
In your wireless networks settings, under wifi settings, turn sleep to never

Wi-fi policy not working

Hi all!
Is it just my unit? Wifi can only be on or off. Other settings simply don't work (wifi off when sleep, wifi on when charging).
Anyone else experiencing the same?

Theres an app called 'Wifi keep alive' which allows you set defaults ie: always on/off whilst in sleep mode/on whilst charging and its available from Play store.
Hope this helps
Applications aside, all that can be set up in advanced settings in WiFi section of settings menu. Just like on all my previous Android handsets. But on my RAZR I it simply doesn't work.

Wifi off

I see wifi turns on automatically when around wifi its been connected too, but is there away for it to automatically turn off when not connected? Or i need another app to do that?
Good question, been wanting to know the answer to that question since I had the S8 but couldn't find a solution.

You might need to use another app like IFTT or Tasker. I've been using IFTT since my S8 and it's worked great.
I remember a app called Juice Defender use to cut off data and wifi after turning off screen and would turn back on when you turn the display back on OR you could set it to turn on wifi whenever you had the app open but when you closed it the wifi would turn off. I don't see the app in the google store but maybe it still functions somewhere else ?
Try Routines from Samsung's Good Lock suite. I just set a condition that turns off wifi if it gets below 10%. Haven't tested it yet but in theory, if I'm walking away from a wifi hotspot and the signal goes below 10%, it should turn off the Wi-Fi.

I use macrodroid. Same idea as tasker but way less complex

As yet, I haven't been able to get any of the Wifi-involved Routines in Good Lock to actually work. Their active, but they don't seem to have any effect.

You're right. The only condition that works is if you're connected to a specific network. I have mine set to put my phone on vibrate when I connect to my home network. When I leave, I set it to come off vibrate when I'm a 300m away from home. Wi-Fi percentage condition doesn't seem to work.
