Hi guys,
this is my first post in Nexus S section. Wildfire is my previous device.
This is an ADblock file that will block almost all annoying advertisement (except those app made by Chinese from China [it do block, but not all]) in your app and browser as well.
Advantages
Free at all, does not use system service, update is not required.
Attachments
HOST.zip: Updated on June 2011
HOST1.zip: Updated on June 2010 (try this one if the first one doesn't block some of your app ads.)
Instruction:
1. Unzip the file and you will get a file named HOSTS.
2. Copy and paste the HOSTS via root explorer to system/etc.
3. Reboot system, and open an app with advertisement and you will see the advertisement is blocked.
Thanks for viewing.
Please hit a "Thanks" if you like it!
Would this work on sgs miui as well?

This script blocked ads from 21k site. It is like windows, they built in the feature but lack of ad block file.
I checked root tools from market, it doesn't block much of the site. It is paid app..
Adfree use service, this doesnt. If you use task killer, it wont kill.

LOL Melvin, at it again i see, so where did your wildfire go now?
Oh and to answer your question ... i didn't bother to update my flashable hosts file for the new recovery... cause tbh i don't really care about ads anymore xD (also including laziness)
Oh and i don't think the boot.img has anything to do with the camera recording (not that i know of course)

No one here uses adblock we all use "adfree" which is free and does EVERYTHING.
Personally, I have recently decided to keep the ads. They are the sole reason we have some quality games especially free ones. Its not like we are in abundance with android app developers, if simply having a small ad will keep them going, please support them.
Guyz, can anyone know how to remove banner ads from my Z1??? This ads popped up on my screen always...can u help me tweak out this annoying thing...tnx

Adblock is crap...
If you must use it because you don't have root OK but it's not good...
It'll block only one small part of ads...

If there is an app that you use mostly offline and it shows ads, using No root firewall will stop it from showing ads. If the app needs internet to function (example a browser or something that needs synching) this will not stop ads in that as it simply turns off ads on a per app basis. It is all or nothing for a app. Good for most of the apps.
Seems like recently I've been getting more and more ad videos starting up when I use my browser. What is the best way to stop these? Which app if any works best?

Rooted? Adaway is the best I've found. If not rooted, good luck...
I used adfree android. I was using adaway but it was causing issues with sod's for me.

I have become accustomed to not seeing ads through out the user experience. I was using a flashable ad blocker from the N5 thread but I guess its not 5.0 compatible.. You guys have any suggestions.

Adaway apk has worked on lollipop with my n5 (n6 is being delivered soon). I just wish I could find something for you tube now.
Where is adaway available for download? Yeah I agree I watch a lot of YouTube and I used to have an Xposed module that blocked all add in the app, it was sweet.

Huh? AdAway is working for me. I downloaded it from f-droid. I just ran an Ookla Speedtest and no ads came up
I prefer using https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway ... AdFree is nice but blocks a lot of the Slickdeals links for me, yeah theres whitelisting but Slickdeals has a lot of redirecting links whereas AdAway is less aggressive on that part and gets most of the ads.
I see @simms22 finally got his N6
I use adaway on my N6 and it works great.
Anyway to block youtube app ads? I used to use xposed module for this, but...
Anybody else having problems with the whitelist? Viglink redirects always fail when adaway is active

Works fine here.
Whitelist *.viglink.com
There used to be this great xposed module that removed the ad spaces in apps. I really hope that comes to L somehow.

Whitelist redirect.viglink.com on AdAway then reapply the list.
Out of curiosity, can you run an adblocker (like adaway), have it modify the hostfile, then unroot and still have ads blocked? Or do you need to keep root for the changes to remain in effect?

You can unroot after making the change. You would have to re-root to update or modify the hosts file again.
Hello i currently root my mxpe 6.0.1 and im using adaway and minminguard but the ads on google chrome are killing me
any suggestion on how to remove them ?
Adaway uses sources like mvps, which block big known ad sources.
You would have to get the source for the ad and report it to one of the adaway blocking services like mvps.
Or
Use greasemonkey for chrome and block that way.
https://www.google.com/search?q=gre...9i57.8582j0j4&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
Assuming you have adaway enabled, lol.
And after hosts file update, hard reboot or shutdown and bootup.
I use Adblock Plus it's a third party app but it works wonders.

Since you're rooted and want to block ads. Try out xposed & ad blocking module for apps.

I use adguard and am pretty pleased. It works non-rooted, too. There is some more tweaks you can do if you are rooted though.

my problem is with the chrome ads
well the most simple way is to use AdAway. its really easy to use. and i get no special DNS or VPN settings (whitch is very battery consuming)
Xposed MinMinGuard and Adaway
AdAway all the way

Yeah it's just a browser and the adblocking engine is just working inside the browser. But try it, it's very smooth

I can't make it work on mine, it crashes on startup.
I use "Rbrowser" instead which has as well adblocker and is the only browser that does not have a scrolling lag on my MX Pure. Very happy with it.

I use AdAway but note that it sometimes causes issues. Blocks things like Google shopping links, coupons and promo code websites, redirects, even the eBay app would not work for me.

You can add the url base domain to your Adaway white list, such as:
ad.doubleclick.net
googleadservices.com
da.feedsportal.com
and others...
Use MOAAB, no need to install apps. Just flash

I used to use AdAway but too often it would block legitimate sites I was trying to get to. I then started using the Adblock Plus browser which was good for a while but has really gone down hill lately.
I'm now using FireFox with the Adblock Plus extension and while it isn't perfect, it most closely suits my needs.
you guys have an app to block youtube ads? I have installed youtube adaway exposed and was working flawlessly but since a few weeks stopped working and now youtube ads are all over the place. any suggestion?
