I have a rooted 2.2 Captivate with Clockwork mod version 2.5.1.2 installed. Rom manger acts as though everything is working but when I go to reboot into CWM recovery I get the stock 3e. I go to reinstall packages. I end up with "E:failed to verify whole-file signature" "E:signature varification failed" My intentions were to follow the instructions I found on Android Authority.
they are:
1. Copy the Devil RC3 kernel and the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM files to your Captivate’s internal SD Card.
2. Turn off your Captivate.
3. Boot into Recovery Mode. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons. When the screen turns on, let go of all three buttons.
*I'm stuck at this point because it won't load CWM
4. In recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select.
5. Make a NANDroid Backup of your current ROM. Select Backup and Restore and select Backup.
6. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Confirm the action on the next page.
7. Select Install ZIP from SD Card.
8. Select Choose ZIP from SD Card and locate the Devil RC3 kernel.
9. After the Devil RC3 kernel has finished flashing, choose Install ZIP from SD Card again.
10. Select Choose ZIP from SD Card and locate the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM file.
11. After the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM file has finished flashing, select Go Back.
12. Select Advanced > Fix Permissions.
Return to main recovery menu and select Reboot System Now.
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this link. Hopefully it will help you get to where you want to be. Also remember over-reading about what you are wanting to do is better than trying to find a solution to something because you missed a step.

Thank you.
I have a question. Do I need to flash the Devil RC3 kernel or should I just install the CyanogenMod 10 V2 rom from zip? Or should I flash the speedmod kernel on odin, then from CWM install the Devil RC3 kerenel, Then install CyanogenMod 10 V2. I just wondered if the two kerenels would conflict or if I would even need Devil RC3?

First of all you're getting a little ahead of yourself in trying to get to CM10 from where you are. Being on 2.2 you will need to get to a gingerbread ROM first as the bootloaders are different and will cause issues trying to go to CM10 if you don't go to gingerbread first.
The following link will take you to some one-click utilities that will update you to gingerbread along with the needed bootloaders. Also I suggest picking one from the list that says it has a CWM kernel injected so that you can save a step after the flash and have a CWM recovery kernel already installed.
Once you've used the one-click you shouldn't need to flash either of the kernels you've mentioned you should technically be able to just flash the CM10 and be good. Although when it comes to flashing the CM10 I suggest you go to the creaters thread or site and follow their exact directions for installing!

Hi,
Screenshots and differences from previous version please.....

Hi guys! I believe most of you obtained root via this method by Jiangyi: [TUTORIAL] Root access for ICS on I9100G which requires a temporary CWM. Quite a few users face problems because in temporary CWM, internal storage is swapped with external storage, i.e. sdcard=internal storage, internal sdcard=external storage. It may be confusing for newbies, especially on their first attempt on rooting. Therefore, I decided to release an easier method, where you can flash the zip files directly via stock 3e recovery!
Requirements:
- Running a stock ICS/JB ROM
- External sdcard
Features:
- SuperSU v0.99 by Chainfire
- Busybox v1.20.2 by Stericson
- No yellow traingle
- No increase in binary counter
Instructions (Root):
1. Download SU-BB-Installer.zip from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005747
2. Place it in your external sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "apply update from external storage" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select SU-BB-Installer.zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
10. Congratulations, you now have root and busybox!
Optional: (For ICS only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download kTool from Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool
2. For ICS: Download the CWM recovery kernel by codeworkx from here: [KERNEL][GT-I9100G] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2
3. Extract the .tar file and you will get a file named zImage.
4. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
5. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
6. Reboot and profit! If you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see CWM recovery.
Optional: (For JB only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download one of the stock recovery flashable zips of Blazing Safe Kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293576
7. Select the zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
6. Reboot and profit! If you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see CWM recovery.
Instructions (Unroot):
1. Download SU-BB-Unstaller.zip from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005748
7. Select SU-BB-Unstaller.zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
10. You are now unrooted.
**NOTE: In order to use this method to unroot, you MUST use my method to root before this.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For ICS only):
This is the tricky part, the easiest way is to reflash a whole firmware via ODIN. But if you like new methods, try this:
1. DO NOT uninstall kTool or unroot your phone first!
2. Obtain a stock zImage (either you download it or extract it from a firmware package), make sure that it is meant for the firmware you are using.
3. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
4. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
5. Reboot and if you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see the default stock 3e recovery.
6. Now you can unroot your device.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For JB only):
1. Download stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip from here: http://bit.ly/XCEejd and place it into your external sdcard/internal sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "Install zip from sdcard" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select "Install zip from sdcard" if you placed it in the external sdcard, or select "Install zip from internal storage" if you placed it in the internal sdcard.
8. Navigate and select stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip.
9. Wait for it to finish.
10. Select "reboot system now".
11. CWM recovery is now replaced by stock 3e recovery, and back to stock kernel too.
That's all from me. Happy rooting!

Keep in mind that you need an EXTERNAL SDCARD for this...Or you are already using one, you will have to wait a while in recovery if that happens...it takes some time...if not, reinsert your sdcard...
This is going to be a bit of a noob question, but I'm new to samsungs, I swear that rooting is very different on everything else.
Is this the best way to flash a new aosp rom? The phone is not ICS at the moment, so I was going to flash stock ICS, follow this tutorial to root, and then install some jb rom like rootbox. Or can I just do temporary CWM and flash the root box on there and keep cwm?

No, JB ROMs require ICS bootloader...so the best way is to flash a stock ICS ROM, root it and get a kernel with CWM, then only flash the new ROM...

TWRP Version: 2.4.3
CWM Version : 5.5.0.4
E Kernel Version: Build 3 - U2
Presenting the first Dual Recovery Kernel for Arc/S and Pro. Your warranty is now void bla bla bla. I'm working on bringing TWRP to ICS based kernels (not cm9) and have been successful, worked on this alone for hours. Thankyou to @Rachit Rawat for allowing me to use some ramdisk files from his sources and Teamwin for creating TWRP. Ill write the rest of the thread later on. Both of the kernels are attached. And for those wondering, yes its been reported to be fast, pretty responsive with great battery life.
To use TWRP hit the volume down button when the led lights up pink. And to enter CWM hut the volume down key at the next led light up and vibration.
Note: TWRP and CWM are not the same when backing up or restoring, you will not be able to restore ones backup from another.
What works:
Twrp
Cwm
Flashing
Backup
Restore
Mount device partitions
Mount external partition

Testing other things now.
BTW, the /vendor partition is not /system/vendor. Need to modify init.semc.rc or else people will have issues with sound enhancements.
Vermagic string is indicating Serene-ICS!
EDIT: Damn, this thing has dual recovery! :cyclops:
Is this dual boot ? After I install modules(1).zip, after i touch 'reboot system', I end up in cwm again.
But after i reboot system (from that cwm menu), its back to TWRP again when i press vol down.
Anyway.. the wifi works, so far no facing problems. no bootloop etc.
In the info, it's still serene kernel.
* Kinda not used with this touch screen menu in twrp .
Nice work mate.

Yeah itll say that. I needed the .13 kernel as I wanted to base it on that, was away from my pc so I asked Rachit Rawat if I could use some files from his source and kernel. Its not supoosed to go into dual boot, may have added them by mistake to the new update. (Too early)

[RECOVERY] TWRP 3.6.1_9-0 - TeamWin Recovery Project
For Samsung galaxy grand prime - sm-g530h
Full TeamWin credits are on the TWRP page on the TeamWin website: https://twrp.me/
Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Decryption of /data
Easy selection of internal/external storage
See changelog below for new features
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe cache & dalvik, and run a backup.
How/Methods to install
TWRP Install (Requires TWRP 2.8.4 or higher already installed):
Download the latest TWRP image file (.img) from the download link and boot TWRP. Go to install and find and select the Images... button. Browse to the image that you downloaded and select it. Choose recovery and swipe to flash.
Odin Install Method (No Root Required):
You will need to download and install Odin on your PC. Once you have Odin installed, download the proper .tar file for your device from the download link above. Power off your device. Turn on your device using the proper key combo to get into download mode and attach the device to your computer via a USB cable. Use the PDA tab or button to browse to and select the tar file that you downloaded and flash the device.
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
dd Install Method (Requires Root):
Download the latest image file (.img) from the download link above. Place it in the root of your /sdcard folder and rename it to twrp.img. Run the following commands via adb shell or a terminal emulator app:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
