What woul you recommend for a small self hosted Wordpress blog (brilldoctor.co.cc in fed up of veeserve mysql issues) is godaddy any good (looks good value)
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
We use godaddy for their domain services and SSL certificates for our clients, have no problems, but haven't used their hosting services.
Depending on your home PC and broadband provider (I use O2 which is perfect as they give 1Mbps upstream) have you thought of hosting it yourself?
It means it's pretty much free and you're in total control.
Two things about doin it at home. 1) I don't own th hardware and two my Internet is pretty bad (8mb down). And I don't want to affect my browsin with other people clogging up my connection.

Upstream is more important than down, I only have 2.5Mbps down, but with O2 I get 1Mbps up.
One of the websites I host gets 2 million hits a month.
Browsing the web from home, and even downloading torrents isn't affected.
As for hardware, you could install VMWare (it's what I use but there are plenty of alternatives) and run a virtual server. I run W2K3, but a linux install would be free and relatively simple to set up.
Or pick up an old PC for next to nothing and run linux off that.
Having said that, of course paying someone to host it would be easier, and godaddy are very cheap.
Their reviews are good too.
Try them for 3 months (about £10) and see how it goes.
Avoid Webfusion though! They suck
Th only issue with the 3 month plan is that domains mus be paid for 1 year

All domains have to be for at least a year.
You own the domain though, so you dictate who hosts your website.
So if it turns out godaddy give you 3 crap months, then you find a different web host, get the IP address of the server they're giving you, and update your DNS on godaddy to point to the new web server.
Anyone got any suggestiobs re godaddy (reports say they are bad)
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
would definitely recommend justhost over godaddy
Justhost seem expensive

Every review site I've found have given them high scores, I think the lowest was 85%.
Where did you find that says they're bad?
Why do you need a UK host?

I recently bought my mother a Motorola Bravo and I found that phone can connect to the PC wirelessly for file transfer. Also the Motoblur software is useful. Does anyone know if there is an app or setting to allow wireless connection to a PC? My laptop does not have bluetooth or I would use that. I am also not talking about tethering, just for file transfer.
Search for browsix by a member here and check it out...just came accross it but not at my computer. Sounds perfect but who knows.

Did a search but it didn't come up with anything? You wouldn't happen to have the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866988
There ya go...have not checked it out yet myself but I did find it in the market, has free and paid $2. Not sure what all the restrictions are on free though file size is one.
Also, the search here on xda is somewhat lacking...you are better off using google and including a reference to xda in many cases.
Try Swiftp ftp server.

Not certain where to post this for this device but wondering how we would go about getting netflix to function on this device.
Thanks
Though I am also curious, this type of thing belongs in "Themes and Apps"

Yeah I just downloaded the app. from the market and it definitely does not work yet. Lame.
Don't worry, with the price increases and change in policies, Netflix is obviously becoming money hungry. That means they are absolutely working on getting their app working on all devices.

Well good to know at least it works for 99% of the phones that are currently released anyway lol.

Yeah money hungry is an understatement. I have to give it to them though, they have obviously made some loot over the past few years because freakin' Netflix ads are everywhere and their crappy app. is on every Bluray and internet based TVs in the known universe. Good marketing guys at ol' Netflix *secretly owned by Google...to be sure* Muahahahaha! Just kidding its late.....
Yeah too bad they did a bait and hike. They bait you with low prices and awesome service. Then, once you're hooked, they raise the prices and make you pay extra for features that were previously free.
Good marketing, bad for pocket books.

I'm on mobile data only so 2 GB is about $20. But if I get two or three corrupt d/l it turns into real money.
Just wondering how we lost something that, to this old geezer, seemed to work better.

To be honest, I think the folks in other countries are in a slightly worse boat. At least US users of non-rooted Chromecasts still have all the stock apps including HBO Go and Pandora. Seems like the folks in Canada are having trouble even with those.
If we're lucky there will be a nice Christmas (or pre-Christmas) present from Google...

I'd say that's definitely gonna be the case, especially since Google is conducting their Google Cast SDK "Hackathon" on Dec. 7-8th. I'd say the SDK will be released either at that time or less than a week after. My bet is that it will be officially released immediately following that event though.
Just bought one today and was really disappointed to find out it's not rootable because it's the new firmware. Hoping there's a fix soon..

Yeah since I'm outside the US and have an unrootable Chromecast I had to buy a new wireless router just so I could use DD-WRT to get around the Chromecast's built-in Google DNS and access the US Netflix library. But on the bright side it's a damn good router even without the Chromecast
Same prob here, I was in a rush to try it out, I forgot to check xda first. The device is currently just lying in the drawer as I hardly use it since I live in Singapore so I got no netflix, just YT lol

Yes, if done via the Cast extension for Chrome, but this does on-the-fly transcoding (decode/re-encode) on your computer so it needs some CPU horsepower.
Chromecast cannot natively play Flash, rooted or not.

Yeah mine was a 3a as well, I didn't even try to root it after reading this. Plus my otg is unpowered. Figured I can look for a older one and just buy another since they are cheap and try again or just hope with the release of sdk....

I know the Galaxy gifts are there for us to download and use, but I don't understand how they get activated. So what's up with the $50 paypal vouchers we are supposed to get?
I don't fully get the voucher, is it for end users to get $50 to spend at merchants or do merchants get $50 towards processing fees in which case I have $0 incentive to use it.
What sort of Galaxy gifts are we supposed to get? I haven't seen anything...
