Hello I am pretty new on this thing of modding. I was wondering if anyone knows how to put to work the Sprint VVM on the hero with CM7?
I have tried several times of following some of the instructions here in the forum but I have had no luck.

Try this and let me know if this helps,
Basically What you do is, Back up the latest voice mail app in original/stock Rom and make a back up of it with "Titanium Backup" app which you can download for free from Android market.
Once you install CM7, install any version of voice mail and on top of that restore the backup (data only) that you took in stock Rom.
Let me know if you dont understand what I wrote and I will try again to explain my self better.
You can download sprint voice mail app from one of the links I posted below for you. I actually had the same issue and I followed
the instructions on the links below and it worked out for me =]
The instructions are kind of confusing so that's why I tried to summarize the steps for you above.
Good Luck!!

Thank you every one that have posted guides and made it so easy.
And thank you Cyanogen for your perfect Room!!
But I have some questions:
1. Can anyone list the best rooted apps, and dose it exist an list of all rooted apps?
2. is there any way to remove programs from the program menu(start menu)?
and where is the list of the programs on the program menu listed?
3. Is there any way to implement proxy settings in wifi settings?
In advance
Thanks for all help!!
not development.....As far as apps, search for what you need.....
I've seen posts regarding every single question you wrote. Search a little bit before posting and try to post in the correct section.

hey man, thanks for your response.........
i did my research of course and had a little idea now on how to do the rooting, but just wanted to see if there are different instructions on rooting a device.
since the OP said he have just rooted it, might as well ask him to point me to the right direction.
i believed, i have also said that i will appreciate that info.
coming from a totally different device, i hope you understand why am i asking? since a thread has been opened already.

look around the development thread, and use google. from those, i was able to unlock, root, and install enom's ROM w/o too much trouble. using the 'spare parts' app in enom's ROM, you can uninstall things you couldn't before, like amazon.mp3, for which i have no use.
i don't know about proxy wifi settings, never had to mess with it. that seems like a browser condition, not a ROM condition tho. could fix thru router tho, if you're at home. MAC address proxy assignment would be your best bet, i would think.
only rooted apps i use are adfree, andexplorer, and metamorph, i think.
but, i am able to push whatever i want
okay I'm a newbie at all of this but I managed to root my hero thanks to regaw for the epic work, and to a few members who helped me with other issues
enough of that, I really didn't root for roms or themes, just for wi-fi tether.
My question is I'm running rooted sprint .5 update with the stock sprint rom.
can someone point me to a stable wifi tether release @ their website? the one I have gives me frequent disconnects ;(
The other question is I tried to install darch's 2.7 rom(just to see what all the fuss about them roms was about, which I so far like ) but i had to revert to stock because I was @ work and I would like to know how can I install the android market.
I downloaded the google ****s and got the marketupdater.apk and youtube.apk uploaded to my dropbox account but when I downloaded them to the phone they would not install after selecting them from the browser's downloads section
Thanks for the help
and did anyone see the first iphone 4 camper?

This should help http://tinyurl.com/2dojxtt . Use the first link.
The above poster,
You are a ****.
With the time it took you to make that link you could have provided me with an answer...
The problem I'm having is that the version of wifi tether I have doesnt work, I didnt ask where to get it...
Wow, settle down the e-nastiness. Learn to have a sense of humor. Everyone uses the LMGTFY around forums. You asked for a website with a stable release. I gave you one. Oh, and it has taken me longer to type this response then it did for me to post that link. I use this one and it works flawlessly. http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_2.apk .

Welcome to XDA, we have this effect on people. Enjoy the show.
THANK YOU!!!1111111!!!!
seriously I would have accepted the first link if it included the stable download
*chuckles*
Ok - So I finally rooted my hero. yay me. Thanks to regaw's FANTASTIC walkthrough.
So now what? I tried to find some walkthroughs on flashing a custom rom, and I just get frustrated when people keep saying, just wipe your phone, perform a nandroid backup.... and more gibberish that just frustrates me. And when I search for basic walkthroughs, I just get the same threads.
All I want is a link to a thread that has a simple step by step walkthrough on how to install a nice stable rom without the crappy nascar and other apps that sprint brings along. and maybe.... an overclocking app and wireless internet tethering... anyone?

+1 Hooorah! on your sig
wel i tried the method that guy told me but i couldn't get it to work...
It worked for me multiple times on multiple devices. I updated ota to the latest software, rooted, installed clock work recovery via rom manager. Then I rebooted and started deleting all the bloatware and other unnecessary junk. Good luck.
One click root apk. Its in the themes and apps section. It will not fail you.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
If you're already rooted, search for the already package zip version of it. It's around here. I think both nfx and that other dude (which name I can't think of) made one.
Here you go! Did it last night again and it works.

Hi this is my first post. Im really sorry if Im posting this again and if I am just tell me to delete it and point me to the correct one.
So i want to install the Cyanogen mod 7.1 that was released yesterday onto my HTC incredible s. however since i have only just had it around a month i know very little about android rooting and how to do it.
My question is what guide should i use? is this the cyanogen mod good. i cna tpost it here it wouldnt let me.
if so i know doing so will void my warrenty and so is it like jailbreaking where all you have to do is restore to stock firmware?
Update: installed using this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Incredible_S:_Full_Update_Guide
worked like a charm
thank you very much.

welcome to the forum. just remember, this forum is chock full of great info. when you have a question, more often then not your question has already been asked. always use the search button first to reduce clutter
this phone is one of the easiest phones to root. just head here. voila. that's it.
yes, cm7 is THAT good. definitely worth it. fast and prob the best battery life out of all the roms.
you can always get the phone back to it's original state for warranty purposes. always a good idea to do a backup immediately after you root.
have fun.
ok thank you very much. Does the guide on the CyanogenMod website include how to restore to stock if you have to send your phone in?

i don't think so. that info is, however, readily available in this forum. just do a search
come to think of it, i think all you have to do is revert to the stock rom that you just backed up after rooting. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Does anyone also know if the root method for the HTC incredible S is temp? Does that mean you cant turn off your device? I'm confused.

no, it's not temporary. it will stay rooted until you unroot and return the device to stock/original state. why don't you try it out? it will be a good way to familiarize yourself with rooting, backing up, and restoring.
Hearing of the release of CM7 got me finally around of rooting my phone. This forum offers great tutorials and I managed to root is fairly easily. After rooting I was also asked wheter I wanted to flash CWM and I answered yes. Everything went OK and I was able to try CM7 after 30 minutes or so. The most time consuming operation was creating backup with CWM recovery.
But my opinion about CM7 isn't good. While I like the the effects and other neat customisation possibilities 3 thing turn me off.
First, I really love HTC's phone or dialler application which helps me find contacts by entering their number or trying to type their names. This is the single most useful thing invented on a telephone. As CM7 doesn't support that (only enterning numbers as far as I know) I will not use it.
Second, I wasn't able to connect to Exchange server for some reason
Third, Android Market shut itself down after 10 seconds and repeatedly kept doing that.
---
PS. I would have liked to post this info to developers forums, but as I don't have rights, I couldn't.

The markets fixed by going in to language settings and selecting English again.
Exchange worked fine for me...
Download another dialer application..
I'd choose double the speed, battery life and ram any day over sense
lets not start cm7 vs sense. this thread will never end really, it comes down to individual preference and that's not something we can argue.
cm7 isn't prefect but it's close, imo.
Please recommend a dialer app and I will give it a try Dialer One maybe?

Cannot download anything from the Market for unknown reason. The download bar just scrolls endlessly.
