I rooted my wifes captivate with superoneclick and tried to get it to allow non market apps and it keeps saying it failed. so i went in with an db editor and changed the 0 to a 1 as the instructions say. When i try to go into titanium back up and restore her contacts it says the phone is set to not allow non market apps. wife is pretty up set can anyone please help
Please use more descriptive thread titles.
i think it is pretty descriptive i need help. now if someone would please give me some suggestions to try instead of being a hole about it that would be nice
i agree your thread title sucks, but in Titanium Backup, have you clicked on menu, more, reload application?

I will tell you what i think... first off that kind of language is not allowed on the forums and you can easily get banned for it. and seccond go into settings/ applications/ development and tick off unknown sources. also if all you have done is root her contact app will not be gone

ATT captivates do not have 'unknown sources' option on stock roms.......thank you ATT
that option is not there ive have already looked. i have the htc inpire and it does. i tried to reload the app and that did not work. when i rooted it first all her info was there. when i tried to flash a rom thats when it went south. i couldnt get it to the screen i needed so i clicked on clear data and thats when i wiped her info on the phone. i had previously backed up her info with titanium backup so that i could restore the info. froyo is running on her phone as well. since the stock rom does not allow non market apps. can i get help with flashing a rom. when i boot into recovery and try to flash i just get the first screen i cant get to the screen needed to flash. ive tried flashing CWM and it says it is successful but when i try to reinstall packages it keeps saying its aborted and will not proceed. any thoughts on this issue? i edited my first post sorry. i just hate people who are cynical and dont give any suggestions.
lets do this again today:

search those terms in google
or here, let me do that for you

seriously, 10 minutes in the forums and you would have had this answer....

Well after some time i had trouble loading the Recovery Menu to install he hardspl on my phone(and for everybody who helped me before, i found that reinsalling the 1.0 update and repeating everything from scratch fixed my problem, but thanxs for the help anyways)
I finally got it working. So now im running JF1.51
But now im trying to put appstosd on my phone
But what im reading is that you need TheDudes Rom to do so
Am i mistaken???
Or is there a specific way of doing it for Jf's rom
I've been looking aroung with no luck
So far all ive been able to make a partition, but thing arent going so well.
When i first tried it i Sucessfully created a partition on my phone
but when i install appstosd and try to "Move all Apps to SD"
it works but when trying to install stuff from the market it tells me "install unsucessful" and i cant revert it so i have to wipe/factory reset from recovery menu to get back to normal
So now im here like a [email protected] wondring what the heck do i do any help appreciated!
i feel like a broken record but... have you tried using the search feature?
because imo, if you did you would know that a2sd is not only for the dudes.
also 'HERE' link in my sig has a nice guide for getting a2sd and also go to the dev section.
oh to add, did you symlink your apps before you went to the market to install the apps?
if not, do that please.
Ok i got you but
whats symlink????
and how do i do it

okay if you are asking me what symlink means then you are obviously not reading the guides that are here on xda or even on the net for that matter.
well im kinda new and all these methods sound "Advanced"
especially the one you gave me
but im going to try ill see what happens
so thanxs
have you looked into lucidrem's script?
there are three basic rules to modding your phone:
SEARCH
IF IT LOOKS TOO HARD AND YOU'RE SCARED THEN STOP
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO UNDO THE PROCESS THEN DON'T START
in the future start with step one
Hey everyone,
I rooted my nexus one when it was 2.2, now im trying to update to 2.2.1. However the OTA update wasnt taking, it failed and the installation aborted everytime. I search forums and found one saying to factory reset my phone, which i did. Saved everything with titanium backup. Now im stuck with:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernal version:2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build apa26#1
Build nuumber: EPE76
One problem is i do not get an OTA update to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Also i did a manual update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and it fails and installation aborts. How can i get back to at least 2.2, but preferably 2.2.1.
Also when trying to restore my apps from titanium backup, it tells me my phone is not rooted, but I still see the little "padlock" unlocked when i boot my phone.
Thanks, hope someone can help
John

im assuming that zip wont work because im on build epe 76. Whats the best way from here to get to at least 2.2
It sounds like you need to do some reading. Look at the Nexus One wiki that's linked at the top of this forum. Read everything it has to say, then re-read.
Your questions are answered.
Not to mention the wrong forum. This is development, not Q&A.
Cheers and g/l
wiki page doesnt help at all
just read the wiki page twice, as you said. There is nothing about how to fix this issue. Sooooooooooo.....??????
i have 50+ forums and googled this issue 10+ times, not having any luck....If you cant help can you direct where i can find help????
Lol, the wiki wont show you the exact issue being resolved. You need to think between the lines, do some problem solving. Nobody on this forum is going to spoon-feed you the answer you look for.
Everything I know about the Nexus One (and Android in general) is from these forums. You aren't looking hard enough if you can't find the info you need.
So please, have enough sense next time to at least post in the correct sub-forum, instead of coming in filled with piss and vinegar making a fool of yourself.

1. You haven't given enough information for anyone to help direct you.
2. It sounds like your bootloader is unlocked, but you lost root. Or maybe your recovery (whichever that is) won't allow an unsigned zip.
3. But once again, this is the wrong forum. This is not the place for you to go into further detail. All it will do is piss people off who are trying to work on development, but have to wade through beggar spam. So please stop.
this is the wrong thread for what you need...mod needs to move it. Take it easy guys, he's just looking for help.
If you have Terminal Emulator from Market installed, type this:
at the $ type su ($su)
it should change to # sign
at # type whoami (#whoami)
it should replay back with "root"
If not, you have lost root and you will need to re-root your device. Please open a thread in Q&A to ask further questions.
I just rooted my phone using superoneclick root for my captive running 2.2 and it did give me superuser and all but i tried to do the "allow non market app" and it goes thru the proccess but the phone never asks for permission so it fails.
Did install a few apps from the market to check is superuser was working and it does, it ask for permission from the apps but not from superclick.
Also, i installed rom manager and downloaded clockwork and tried to flash it booting from rom manager into recovery and it gives me blue recovery once there, i tried to to flash "reinstall update.zip" and it fails everytime due to signatures...
what am i doing wrong, please help me..
it might not ask, did the option show up in menu button >settings > applications ? if not try unrooting then re-reroot to get it to ask again.
for the signatures... please read the stickies in the general area... please~!~~~!!!!!!

on att stock firmwares, even when you enable the sideloading, it does NOT turn the checkbox ability on. it shows nowhere in application settings. its just enabled on the backend...

what? no more referring to your sig? well i guess if he looks at my thread we both get the traffic and possible thanks.
att settings apk has no reference for unknown sources. but the database file that controls it is the same, the system needs to be mounted read write and you can pull a file and edit it in firefox with a mysqlite plugin then push it back to the phone and reboot. adb might need to be restarted, it might work after logging out and into the computer. it may also have trouble getting the permissions to change. the phone need to be in debugging mode for the scripts to use adb for /system access, also that means don't mount the sdcard before you start.
if it fails i can look for the file name and location and the thread that goes over editing it. it is as simple as changing a 0 to a 1 and saving.
This is assuming that you updated to 2.2 through Kies. If so, the recovery is different than 2.1. So, either use odin to go back to stock 2.1, or scroll down to the thread for "3e recovery" in the development section.
I have been dealing with this same issue for a week!! I now know that it's because I used Samsung Kies to do my 2.2 update and SuperOneClick to root. Some apps say that the phones not rooted and some have no problem getting SuperUser permission. This solved all my issues. I am either going to go back to 2.1 using Odin and retry or just remove the root and reroot. I will mess with it tomorrow. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this thread!!!!

Oh man.. still have not got the right recovery on there. dude, try Odin back to 2.1 and go from there.
Is there a list of system apps that can be removed saftly without issue??
Easy. Don't touch system apps that are google related or service related.
Can I remove the stock messaging app (I already have Go sms Pro)
Same question for stock camera & stock dialer?
Go SMS recommends not to remove the Stock SMS App to let it work correctly, you should know that when you looked through Go SMS Settings.
Apart from that, this list might help.

So, the quick post here, is that this list says it's ok to delete "search applications provider" and I'm pretty sure I just screwed up my phone doing that.
now, the longer post in case someone notices this and can give me some sweet advice:
I just rooted my Galaxy Ace S5830l, then added Link2SD to remove the bloatware. found this site, and this post in a google search for what .apk's i could delete. was going down this list trying to use common sense and the descriptions, when i got to "search applications provider" aka applicationsprovider.apk and the list said it was ok to delete it. described it as "Fetches the list of applications installed on the phone to provide search suggestions. " which didn't seem all that important.
like many of the applications i'd deleted, it caused a reboot of the phone, but this time, after the animation, in got stuck on the pulsing "samsung" and never moved past it. I had no idea what was going on. browsing this site, I'm guessing that's what you guys call a "boot loop"
i removed the battery to try and restart it, but it just stopped in the same place. I tried to reboot from the recovery window, but same thing. once, I decided to try a factory reset, and when i did that it seemed to come back (in spanish b/c i've got the latin version of the phone) but when this happened I didn't have access to anything at all. the clock and signal were on, but i couldn't even get to settings to change the language. I tried another reboot, and ended up back in the samsung pulsing logo. now, even the factory reset doesn't seem to get me back to that point.
browsing the site here, I've now seen a FAQ that seems to imply it would have been smart to download clockworkmod, though i'm not even sure that's true (seems like that's for people installing ROMs?) I'm not kidding when i say i'm in over my head. I've rooted phones before and that's about it. everyone posting help for people in a bootloop seem to be helping people who intalled a bad .apk, not deleted an important one.
I'm doing my best here, trying to learn what all these things are (CWM, Odin, ROMs etc) to see if there's a solution that should be obvious, but if anyone's got any help and can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.
GUIDE!

I dont want to say much, i think i just give you the link below. You need times to understand. im sorry if im not quite helpful. Simple procedure: Root, install CWM, and flash Custom Rom!... IF you decide not to use the custom rom, but just want to use the original stock, flash new firmware to override your old system. The link below provides you everything about rooting and flashing Rom. Hopefully, it will works.

yes, that is helpful. I have my phone rooted, but don't have clockwork mod, and while i can get my phone to boot, it won't show any applications or let me do much of anything. i can't open the dialer or even settings to change it to english, but i do receive phone calls.
I'm hoping that since it's rooted i'll be able to flash a ROM onto it with Odin. I'm completely new to this, so I guess it's a trial by fire. I suppose there is a chance that i'll be able to figure out how to add the .apk i deleted back to the phone without flashing a new ROM, but that seems unlikely.
I'm currently reading through an Odin how-to in the SIII forum, but i've browsed the link you gave, and i'll give it my full attention next, learning bit by bit.
thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Fixing without odin could be possible but wouldn't make any sense because you've already wiped your data with factory reset, right?
So odin is the best option for you!

BTW: That link from "Aces5" is for the s5830 and not s5830I, be aware because you could have bricked your phone!
More info about odin for s5830I here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792
You can remove email app, unnecessary widgets, launcher ( have another one prior to this to back you up ! ), some Google apps like maps, talk back, gmail, talk/hangouts, thinkfree office, Swype beta or/& the the stock Samsung keyboard. etc.

ok, i have the s5830l not s5830i, which my understanding was, that i should use the s5830 ROM and not the s5830i ROM. am I in danger of bricking a s5830l by using the s5830 ROM?
Before coming across the link in this forum here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...y-steps-n910t3-dofc-dog1-how-to-root-t3177225 ...
I thought I could shortcut all the work by going to the auto root chainfire site to download the actual CF Auto Root File for model sm-n910t3. I successfully flashed that file using odin. It went into a bootloop and then I freaked out.
The error messages when I turn on the phone first show
"kernal is not seandroid enforcing" in red, and
"Set Warranty Bit: kernal" in yellow writing.
After being in this bootloop i went to the link posted above and followed each step by step. My phone is successfully rooted now and I can log in to my phone fine. However, there are two problems. First, those error messages are still there. How do I get rid of that? I tried a factory reset on my phone and it wont do it.
Will get to that after. Second, when I go into twrp by hitting volume up+home+power, once im in there it wont allow me to backup my current rom. It says an error message about E:/ data mount or something like that. And also while in twrp it won't let me factory reset my phone. So the recovery program is pretty useless to me. I don't know why it doesn't work properly.
Where do I go from here? Can someone help me out in fixing this error message and getting a recovery program to work? I'm just wondering why the twrp that I flashed while following that root guide above does not work. Has anyone ever encountered those two error messages while turning on their phone? Thanks.
The error messages are normal after rooting.

So other people have those messages on the top of their phone after rooting this device? Im guessing we just ignore that message then? I thought it was there because I flashed the wrong kernal before doing it the right way and following the forum...
What if I flashed the original firmware for this note 4 phone that I have a copy of, then root the phone going through that tutorial step by step? Wouldn't that get rid of the error messages? And my twrp would work then?
Im not able to make a backup of my current rom. And Im not even able to factory reset this phone. This is a problem for me since I want to put marshmallow on here soon. When I do I get an error message. Part of my second question is wondering why twrp isn't working correctly?
please help
i took my battery out to charge it and put a new one in. now it wont even boot up. it turns on and says
"custom binary blocked by FRP"
"secure fail: kernal"
for those of you who followed my other post i rooted my phone and tripped knox. phone was giving a message but would still turn on. where do i go from here? i have everything backed up and can start fresh. please provide step by step instructions on how i can fix this phone. thank you so much in advance and god bless.
I went to samsung and downloaded the firmware for this device and then flashed it. Now it's back to normal so you can disregard my post. Thanks guys.

Ubernoob?
Drink my ovaltine? Hash tag for uber noob? Didn't your parents raise you to not say something if you have nothing nice to say at all? Apparently not so who's really the ignorant. Ask yourself that question. Ignorance is bliss. That's a good hashtag huh.
And the bottom line is that we were all beginners at one point right? So cut me some slack im learning. It will take me time to get to where you guys are at. Yes I am brand new to this stuff and no I don't like the iphones. Androids are more user friendly. I like Samsung phones and want to learn more about them.
Its people like you that keep us beginners from wanting to come back to this website, when guys say blatantly rude comments. It shouldn't be a bashing forum. Let's all chill and get along.
