Ok...I am a 'somewhat' noob. I do have my phone rooted and have watched many videos and read through the forums. I have not yet flashed to a custom rom, but am thinking of making the jump. Just have a few questions....
Firstly...Anyone have any negative experience with PARAGON's rom? Looking though the many different ones, this one seems to keep catching my eye...
Next...I have backed up all my necessary files including using Titanium pro backup. As I said the phone is rooted. I am running stock 2.1. I have also used one click lagfix. Do I need to remove the lagfix? Can I use Odin to just master clear or do I need to flash to odins stock first? I have rom manger dowloaded also!
Thanks for any input and help in advance!
paragon is an awesome rom
You must disable the lag fix prior to flash. You can odin back to stock as long as you have all your backups. You do not need to be rooted to flash a rom. Odin will get rid of lag fix, but app should do so as well. If you use odin there is an update.zip on your sd. Leave it there, when on stock boot recovery, reinstall packages twice, you well have clockwork recovery. Install zip from sd, choose zip, select paragon, confirm
If you do not disable the lag fix you will get stock in a boot loop

Yeah...I got tired of waiting for at&t to release an update so took my froyo fate into my own hands...so to speak.
I ran Cognition 2.b3 - 3.02 and was pleased with the performance. I started watching this ROM at RC5 and just pulled the trigger today. The process went exactly as described. One thing I noticed is that this modem supports hsdpa, maybe cog3.0x did too...but never noticed. Went outside and turn GPS on and got 12 sat lock in seconds....sweet. locked in within 10'...very nice results.
Anyway, just get your feet wet, try it, don't like flash back to stock, or try another flavor. So far I'm very pleased with this ROM.
Paragon is great ROM. Been running it for about 6 weeks. I'm on RC5 now, waiting for RC6. I've had no issues. I'm running OC/UV (not required) with very conservative settings. Getting great performance, battery life and pretty good GPS.
Enjoy.
Paragon is a great ROM hands down!
Yeah, I'm running Paragon 5.1 and it's been running great. I haven't changed the OC/UV settings, just running default, with good battery and good speed.
Try it, you'll like it.
There's a reason he named it Paragon.
eSPyeL did his homework, paid attention to the details, and doesn't rush things.
If you like the ROM, throw him a bone. He's sticking with the Captivate for a good while and things will only get better.
THANKS for all the input!
I like my captivate! BUT the main reason I am looking to flash a custom rom is even with the lagfix, seems slow compared to my HTC flavors. I MUCH prefer this phone over them just want better responses. Also really want flash. I am an o/c'er by heart...ever since I have owned a PC I have o/c my CPU/GPU. Just like to get the most 'bang for buck' out of my parts...lol.
I think I shall give this a try...hopefully all goes well...
Take a look at Cezars Continuum v 2.1
After trying at least 10 different roms i am sticking with this one.
I am on paragon 5.1 with the 1.4Ghz 500hz kernel. I absolutely love it. Obviously I'm using the OC/UV to tweak it. I'm getting pretty fantastic battery life. Great GPS. I personally love the look and feel to it. I would reccomend this rom over and over again. I haven't found anything that I don't like about it so far. It's a solid working beast of a rom.
I have been running Paragon since RC3 and it has worked great. I have had a couple flashes that seemed to cause some issues with my phone, but when I had more issues than I could handle, I reflashed it and my phone worked great since. My first issues occurred when I flashed RC4 the first time, I was getting a lot if Force Closes of the system. I flashed RC4 again and didn't have any problems. The last time I had an issue was this past weekend with my flash of RC5.1. I was having some slow down issues where unlocking the phone or going back to the home screen would take more than 5 seconds. I just reflashed on Saturday and haven't experienced what I was before.
The flash issues I've had could be limited to my phone, so I won't be giving any grief to the ROM itself, and reflashing seems to fix it.
I like Paragon because it is fast, I like the theme and don't have to change it every time I flash, battery life is good enough for me to make it every day with only charging at night, and it has Bluetooth voice dialing. The Dev is also constantly updating the ROM to make it better and is doing a great job at it.
Seems over all everyone is VERY happy with the rom...Like I said before I have browsed many roms and Paragon seems to be the one.
Couple more questions. Reading through various posts in the forums, there seems to be quite a few different ways to flash. Is it necessary to remove the battery and external SD card to get into download mode then run ODIN to go to stock 2.1 and then master clear? Some say yes, some say not necessary to use ODIN if you are currently running stock 2.1. I have removed my lagfix btw.
Is it necessary to use ROM MANGER opposed to simply booting into revovery mode yourself to flash the rom?
Paragaon defaults when installed with a standard o/c of 1200 correct? Seems most find that very stable, where 1400 is possilbe but less likely to hit.
Thanks again!
So this was my setup when auto-rotate decided to cut itself out on me. I had been using this setup for over a week now at least.
Paragon RC 5.1, default kernel (1200MHz, 500Hz?)
Generation X 2.0 theme, blue version (from i9000 theme forums)
Now, out of nowhere, my phone's gyroscope stops working on me. Out of nowhere as in, phone hasn't been reset, nothing flashed recently, no new apps installed, nothing, just regular usage.
I tried using the methods in the other threads I found (deleting /data/system/ms3c_yamaha.cfg, then running /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha to manually recalibrate). Didn't work. Reflashed, wiped, all using CWM, nothing worked.
The sensor was stuck, and all the sensor readings would show that it was flat on a table (0,0,213 or something like that, the calibration utility in the Settings menu would show the ball dead center and not move).
Then I got stuck in bootloop and lost 3-button recovery mode after trying to flash 2.2 Rogers stock via CWM and forgetting to wipe data, and having to Odin flash to stock 2.1 AT&T in order to get 3-button recovery back, then flashed 2e, got CWM and clean installed Paragon from there, and then got rid of the AT&T splash screen.
However, I did notice that after flashing 2.1 AT&T (JH7) and booting to check if the update went through, the gyroscope sensor was working again.
Weird. But I guess that's why people say in the forums to flash to stock via Odin...
ANYWAYS. I literally just finished fixing it. What a painful work-around just because of auto-rotate, in order to get the gyroscope working again, and I don't even know why it stopped working. Definitely a huge negative experience. On the other hand, I'm sure it's an isolated incident not to do specifically with the rom.
On the plus side, battery life is reasonable, call quality and signal strength are great, JS3-based which means lots of themes from the i9000 forums, frequent updates, lots of features and oc/uv options. Did I mention it's fast?
Please PLEASE make sure you know how to restore your phone before flash ANY ROM!
I don't personally run this ROM (for the moment but I've heard good things overall about it.
Good thing about flashing custom ROM's - if you don't like it you have a doze others to choose from!
Well I took the plunge and installed Paragon 5.1...and SO FAR I LOVE IT. Blazing fast compaired to stock even with lagfix installed. Haven't had much time to test all things...but so far...SWEET!
I loved this rom. The best.
Senda from my Captivate with Paragon RC5.1 wait for rc6
Well been using it for a few days now, and I must say...IMPRESSIVE! Speed is great! So far I have found no bugs myself. The GPS is AMAZING! Locks in just a few seconds and I can now travel on an interstate at 65 and it keeps up with me, never thought I would see that on the captivate. Only issues really is my battery life is a bit less, but not much. just installed Juice Defender to see if that helps a bit. I am going to donate for this one! Can't wait to see what RC6 will be like...

Juice defender will actually shorten your time between charges....don't use it. Paragon for me has been awesome. I have been running it since rc3 and it has definitely stopped my urge to flash. Battery life has been amazing and average between 18 and 26 hours on my phone (usually around 20 hours). Play with some tweaks, try out the different paragon kernels and play with your uv settings. When you find the right settings you will be amazed!

Issues with Juice Defender? I have heard good things about it....what problems have you had using it? I installed it yesterday, really haven't seen any 'real' difference myself, but I am just using the defualt settings for now.
I am using the default kernel that came with the rom 1200/500. I set via OC/UV all my settings to -75. Max core 1200. Min 100.
Hi guys,
I´ve tried most of the cooked JVH roms for SGS i9000 and also the stock roms.
Is it just me or is the Gingerbread JVH rom slower and less stable than the Froyo roms?
Why should I use Gingerbread when I Froyo is faster, more stable and the battery life is better.
What is your experience?
On my phone gingerbread is faster but very unstable, drains my battery, apps rebooting system, wifi sometimes cant reconnect after reboot just useless i have a feeling that ginger is in beta state and was never finished by samsung
i have also tryied almost every rom modyfied and untouched - all having different or same symptoms of instability funny fact is - most developers saying that everything works fine
I must admit that I've never (yet...) had any of those problems you read about all over the forums ... Speed is similar (or even better) to what I had on Froyo, and battery life has certainly improved with GB.
I'm currently on GingerReal 5.1 and although I've only used it for a couple of days, it hasn't let me down yet. Guess I'm one of the lucky few ...
I am going with GB, cuz of battery life and performance (i think it's slightly better than Froyos)
That is my feeling also. Although i had no really big problems with gb i went back to froyo. The current gb roms have nothing on the latest froyos. I like to have a rock solid phone and right now jsd is it for me. No advantage running the gb roms right now, in fact its a step backwards.

Cool, so Im not the only one having these issues. Well I guess I will go back to Ultimate or darkys running froyo then. Worst part is that SwiftKey is not working in the email client
"less stable" meaning what?
for me GB is infinitely better including battery life
@Raider0001....have you tried factory reset?
i had no problem since i was started using 2.3.3 gb room and its getting my phone looks so nice, rockn' and thanks for GB costum room!

True, almost nothing to add. GBs theme is very nice, had not many problems with JVO - but I like to sleep knowing that battery is not empty when it's alarm time in the morning That is the main reason for me switching back to a customized JSD which runs without problems - except a camera freeze after taking a picture sometimes (not very often so that's ok for me).
+1 - checked almost all gb ROM. Always problems with battery life or FC. Today I flashed back Darky 9.5 with Crysis Revolution theme and now have no problems. I like MIUI but there is terrible battery drain.

Oh man i did everything to get rid of the most annoying bug which is battery drain (spent 2 weeks searching for stability), factory reset 10 times or more. Maybe not all i9000 are same in hardware because there are many without problems and many with.
I installed GB stock (JPJV6) yesterday to give it a try.. (Have already tried all GBs).
The only problem I'm facing with it is the lag in flyover movement in applications menu... It was very smooth on Froyo 2.2.1 (JPJPM, JPJPY).. That is really annoying
Gingerbread, because CM7 is gingerbread =]
If I was still on Samsung roms, I'd probably still be using froyo tho, it's stability is peak.

If someone honestly tells me that they have these issues when following best flashing practice, i.e. ensure they don't install a clean GB rom over debris from earlier roms and I'll start to listen.
Honestly...format internal SD, factory reset, flash with PIT and repartition, factory reset (again)...then NOT restore apps AND DATA from an old rom.
If all the above is done and the installation is truly clean and there are still issues I'll start to believe*
*in the tooth fairy at least
Froyo All Tha Wayyyyyy!!!!!!
JSD 1432 vs JVO 1025 benchmarks both without lag fix, no os bug on jsd 40% os bug on jvo sure ginger theme looks awesome but for what do you want a great looking car that does 15 miles per gallons???????

Well I actually did that on JVO factory and usb erase but the bug came back the third day
Im having a lot of issues with VPN and also with usb audio while docked on GB on Froyo those features were working fine

Speed is faster, at least twice as fast on gingerbread out of the box.
For battery, take out the battery for a few mins and then reboot, then gb battery is at least twice as good too

hey guys, I'd like some feedback on this if you're experiencing the same..
it seems that the TV out quality deteriorated a bit on gingerbread than in froyo.. i flashed stock froyo DXJPA and stock gb XXJVH to compare and there really is a difference.. sorry i don't have a pic to demonstrate, but an apparent deterioration i noticed is that a list divider (the line in the list menu like settings) is not shown when it is in the dead center of the screen.. but when i scroll it just a bit, it shows..
also, still an issue with tv out, the video controls overlay on the video player is seen on the phone but not on the screen.. this happens on gb but on froyo, it is exactly what you see on the screen.. it is also apparent in other video players like mVideoPlayer
lastly, subtitles don't appear on the TV in gb but they do in froyo.. tried in stock video player and mVideoPlayer..
GB Best in ever thing
I have the 16GB Vodafone UK Galaxy S. Today I was in a city trying to use satnav and it was rank rotten. So I thought I'd see if an upgrade would do it. I was using the very first Froyo that Vodafone came out with - I upgraded to that and hadn't upgraded since. I did have it rooted and 1 click lag fix was on it.
I upgraded to Gingerbread just there, sadly I had to do a factory reset, however it's all working.
I have realised that if I am going to put a custom firmware on it then now is just the right time to do it.
Is there one out there that's stable, and an improvement over the Gingerbread I'm using? Particularly I'd like it to fix the lag (if that still needs fixed) and even better would be fixing GPS/Satnav.
Pinpong blockbuster rom - ticks all your boxes. Get faster fix from market.
Your gps will never be 100% satisfactory in the city, in fact it will probably always be poor - no matter what custom rom you use.

Have you think about CM7? Great Rom, works well on my phone, and add many new things.
Hi Mate, I tried many custom roms and finally settled for
(ROM)GingerCriskeloV77-9LS-CamHack- SIP + NoIncRing I9000/T/M JVP 2.3.4
Cheers
Well, I managed to get it on. Booting up is weird though, it looks for a long time as if the screen is broken, but eventually ti comes on to the Blockbuster lock screen and then everything is fine. It does seem faster - but I'll only really know when I get to one of those situations where I feel the phone is frustratingly slow.
Thanks very much Woolf!
Time allowing I'll give the other roms a shot, although this Blockbuster one does seem to be good enough for me.
Sadly my phone now reboots constantly. it seems to do it when the screen locks

Check you got the installation right for that rom, maybe you had to flash a jvp stock first or some similar omission?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Sorry to hear you're having issues. Try flashing to a totally stock JVQ first (with repartition) once you've backed up, then if you don't like that, try a custom ROM. I don't think many JVQ custom ROMs are worth trying if you want a taste of custom ROMs. Better to try CM7 or MIUI for something fast and different.
As a side note, the best tip I've seen for fixing the dreadful GPS we have with the i9000 is to buy a Nexus S or just ANY other phone! Yes, some radios appear better than others, but nobody can prove anything and it's almost all subjective feedback. A drop in the ocean of improvement needed for satisfactory function. If you must use it, a bluetooth GPS receiver and 3rd party navigation app seem the best way to deal with it.
I've now stepped away from Blockbuster. Even doing the a perfect install it crashed often and repeatedly. I did try upgrading to the very latest and that crashed several times in the past hour. Part of the problem was the rom starts with a lockscreen that has a messaging unlock on it, but it isn't set to an app that comes with the rom, so it reboots every time. Sadly that wasn't the only problem, as I was still getting loads of reboots.
So that's out of the way.
I'm now a lot more comfortable using Odin so I'll be able to try other options. I'll try the other two suggested in this thread first of all.
Next to test is CM7.
Thanks for the help folks!
CM7 aborted. Instructions are incorrect, the file they say to download doesn't actually match the instructions so that's out. Plus it clearly states it's not suitable for day to day use... so I don't thnk the time in working out how to fix it is justified since it looks like it wouldn't be useful.
I'm going back to the original question in the thread, to say that I'm looking for something stable. I now think that a custom rom is not the way to go. However some modifications may well be.
Can anyone suggest some kind of lagfix/speedup that isn't a complete overhaul like CM7, Blockbuster etc, that is very stable and that'll make my phone faster?
Edit : Part of what I was doing to install Blockbuster was install Speedmod kernel. So I've gone and put that on, and used the clockwork mod to root it, and also convert to ext4. I think things are looking pretty fast so far. I'm not sure if there's a lagfix for this, but I'm quite comfortable just now footering around - unlike the complete rom I don't feel out of my depth. So I think I'll be ok for now.

Hi,
You've missed some steps or you were in long holidays?
SGS1 is already on JVT 2.3.5
There's no problems at all and it works as it should be.
Have a look at DEV threads, there's many good roms and kernels.

oh 2.3.5

thanks for the info
I don't recommend samsung stock ginger roms. Samsung doesn't care about correcting serious bugs so i'm not using them. Worse for me is the one that makes the phone use battery after charging to 100% even with the power cord plugged in, which, by the way, isn't corrected as you can check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134741&page=29
That was a dealbreaker to me. Went froyo with a darky kernel until cyanogen 7.1 stable showed up. Also, i haven't been keeping up with custom samsung based roms, but at the time none were addressing this bug as well.
Been using cyano since it was released and i definitely recommend it. v2.3.7, phone's fast and no charging bug (didn't come across any other bug as well), decent battery (to me that means easily a day, i never got anymore than that ever with any rom with my usage) and tons of cool customization (my favs are the ability to customize your status bar with whatever buttons you want, profiles, DSP manager and, of course voodoo sound)
Only quirk i have are LED notifications not working properly with sms's (using handcent) for some reason. They do for everything else though. I'll live.
I did see several people saying otherwise about cyanogen, so take this with a grain of salt. I may be just a lucky guy but i'm yet to experience any problems.

i dont know why samsung is ignoring the sgs1 while the sgs2 is awesome because of how samsung has approached its target market ( gave free i9100s for the cm team (hacksung team) and also one of the best optimized version of android ive seen on a phone
I would not discard stock rom with a good kernel without giving it a try. I'm personnaly very happy with jvt + semaphore + some aosp mods.
As always, your milage might vary, you'll have to make your own judgement.

well as i'm not having any issues with JVT + semaphore kernel, i can only recommend this combination.
I have the best battery life ever. charged over night, disconnect at 6.30 am. using internet (~1h), mp3player (~ 2h), (display brightness low) and i'm having 66%.
i have tested roms like darky, simplicity, goa, and they havent such a good battery life.
thank you all
first i try stock jvt
after that ill play with different kernels
again thank you
Hey fellas, new to modding. Have a samsung captivate. Cutting right to the chase.
So i got this phone about 1 week ago. Used the stock ROM (2.3.5) for about 2 days. Then flashed CM 10. Then flashed CM 10.1. Now today flashed "Captivating (Xperia)" ROM. I've been facing one single problem in all the ROMS (That i didn't notice in the stock ROM), the colors are not proper in the custom ROMS. Like, pixelation (on a big level) at the regions where screen's black region meets any coloured region. (I know, difficult to understand & difficult to explain as well, so i've attached 2 images to show it).
I first noticed it on the CM 10 boot animation. It was highly pixelated at edges (both inside & outside the ring). Ugly to look.
& i know that it's not the resolution problem. (My friend is using the SGS 2, flashed CM 10.1 last night, has crisp clear graphics, same res & larger screen than captivate)
It's present EVERYWHERE. In bootanimation, wallpapers, videos, apps, etc. wherever black meets any color.
What is it.? How to fix it.? Is it any soft problem or a hardware problem.?
P.S. Going to setting -> advanced -> Color Tuning -> & setting-
Red - 1.000 (Default value)
Green - 1.000 (Default value)
Blue - 1.000 (Default value)
Red Gamma - -40
Green Gamma - -40
Blue Gamma - -40
does solve it a little, still the problem is there.
Moreover, it doesn't solve the prob of the bootanimation.
What to do.?
I have followed the same path from GB to CM10 to 10.1.
Never had any color shifting or LCD problems in months of use with CM. At one point I get a yellowish tint on a Semaphore kernel. I restored an earlier CM10.0 and the problem never repeated itself.
Do you have the problem on straight, stable CM10.0?
When you got the phone on GB, did it have the Corn kernel? What were the settings in Voodoo color? That might help you understand how to tweak JB settings.

As for I can see with the pics, your gamma is off the hook. That's not by default though, there's something that was changed. Did you play with Voodoo or color settings before and after flashing?
Did you try going back to stock and reflashing? (clean flash)
Did you try using different color temperature? (cold, warm, normal)
I see you reduced your gamma by quite a lot but there should be a better solution. Unless you have some overpowered digitalizer lol. Which brings me to think, was the screen replaced?
First off, the phone came with the official samsung 2.3.5 gingerbread ROM. At that time, i didn't notice any such issues (so i guess i can conclude that they were absent at that time).
Then i put in the speedmod kernel. Flashed cm10 (stable). Had this colour problem. I've now had this color problem ever since i flashed cm10.
On an unrelated note, m getting very poor battery life. I charge the phone till 100% (I've been leaving it at charging overnight since the last 2 charges, still the problem persists), & i remove the charger at about 7 in the morning. No music. A little (& very light) gaming (temple run, subway surfers, etc) for about 30 minutes total throughout the day. Screen brightness at lowest at max times during the day. very little calling. very little messaging. Oh, & NO cellular data connection (No GPRS, EDGE, 3G or anything for internet). Only wifi. That too for around 1 hour total. & still my battery goes flat to zero in about 12 hours (or even less). Is this normal.? I don't really remember how my battery was at the stock ROM, but it's like this on CM 10. Is this normal at all.? Is there any way to check battery.? Is it just a bad battery.? Or is this just the normal battery life of this phone.? (Cuz i read samsung galaxy S review on gsmarena, which is basically the same phone, & it manages to squeeze out around 3.5 days of battery life under their tests, which include pretty heavy usage with 3g enabled all the time)
& no, i got a new phone. So i really don't think the screen was replaced. Is it possible i was cheated through the dealer somehow.? I got it over at ebay.in.
M gonna flash stock ROM in a few hours. M currently downloading this one. Is this the correct one.?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
M confused, in settings now (in cm10), it shows Baseband version - I9000UGKG3. That ain't correct. Right.? How to know which stock rom i have to flash now.? I forgot to check my stock rom's baseband. I have to use the phone in India over the Indian baseband.
EDIT: Oh & i didn't change any settings (or any voodoo settings) for any kernel or anywhere at all. i noticed that colour problem in CM 10 boot animation. Many times. Then played around with display settings in cm10.

Oh god I hope I'm not too late. The Odin you've downloaded is a old version and contains froyo bootloaders.
You'll want Odin KK4 without Bootloaders to get back to stock.
If you already flashed the other one, you're most likely back on froyo or Eclair. You'll need Odin KK4 with Bootloaders to get back to stock GB.
As for the dealer, yes, it's possible that the phone isn't actually new or that the screen was replaced.

Phew. Thank god i've crossed my FUP limit & have an epic slow internet connection right now.
the file was still downloading. Otherwise i would've flashed with that. Thanks for the warning man.
Anyway, do u think stock ROM will solve the battery problem.?
Saw this page too..

Battery problems are user specific, not ROM specific. I'd highly suggest you get BetterBatteryStats to see what's draining your battery. Also, after flashing, it does take a couple full battery cycle to get the best outta your battery.

Hmm. Alright. But.. Really.. I've read some reviews.. (& also, i've written my usage above, is that even real.? Cuz a few weeks ago i was on motorola Defy+ & i could easily get 2 days of battery life at heavier usage than my current usage) & according to reviews, m supposed to get even more battery life on captivate.! That's why i was asking. Cuz gsmarena claims it gets 3.5 days of battery life under normal average load (Which m not even putting on it most of the time.!) & with 3g ENABLED.! (which m not enabling at all, infact no data connection via sim, only wifi, that too very less). Still just 12 hours of battery life.
Anyway, flashing stock ROM soon. Will use that for a week i think. To test out my phone. Then will see what to do.
EDIT: Another (& probably the most important) question.! Will the device still stay unlocked after flashing it back to stock ROM (i bought it factory unlocked)
the i9000 baseband is correct for cm10 captivatemtd build. captivate is a variant of galaxy s series, as is i9000.
that isn't to say that you should go flashing an i9000 rom.
captivate lacks several pieces of hardware that are in other galaxy s phones.

Unlock is permanent so you don't have to worry about that.
Getting 3.5 days with data enabled is nearly impossible with how old the phone and battery is. That would mean no sync, extremely low brightness, no widgets, no GPS/location access, perfect signal (4 bars) at all time and absolutely no gaming.
I would personally get about 2.5-3hrs on screen with my cappy, that was with data, sync, auto brightness enabled and medium usage. Back when I didn't have data though (Froyo days, with Firefly ROM), I would get at least 2 days with medium usage.
You gotta keep in mind that if that gsmarena is on a old firmware, he has about a 1/4 of the features CM has right now and well, more features = more battery drain. Also, battery highly depends on your apps/widgets, the more apps that sync, the more drain you get.
One last thing, CM isn't the only 4.2 ROM out there, feel free to try a few of them.

Alright. Right now m back to stock (2.3.5). Will keep this ROM for a few days. Check out the battery life. The max battery life i can get out of it.
& i don't know if the colour problem is still here in this ROM, but.. i really can't see it anymore. So gonna play around with this ROM. Thank you for your help people.
Oh.! Now i understand it.! M getting what is commonly called "Black Crush".!
Here's a video demonstrating it (In galaxy note & comparing it with a normal captivate)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a8aIGeLERg
That's why my screen colors were problematic.! & maybe still are problematic. Although i don't think m getting the black crush at THAT level. Any way to solve this issue.? :\

First time I hear about this so I dunno if there's a fix or not (other than getting another digitalizer).

M not gonna get a new digitalizer for it. Definitely not. I bought this phone just for general usage plus listening music. The colour problem has almost vanished ever since i flashed the stock ROM. The battery has also considerably increased.
I will live with the colour problem if i have to. It won't be worth buying a new digitalizer & replacing the old one.

After your testing, feel free to try another custom ROM, maybe other than CM this time and see if you get better results.

Okay. will do.
just confirmed another thing. I just flashed cm10.1 (directly from stock)
Now, I can see the color prob. only in the videos though. not images. anyway, it's confirmed new w.. the problem is not there on the stock ROM, but present in the cm 10, 10.1, n the xperia ROM.
n I've also noticed changing gamma values (all to -40) will reduce the prob by a large margin. dunno what the issue is here.
anyway, flashing semaphore kernel with voodoo colour settings now. will post the result in a few hours (or maybe tomorrow morning). all of your help is really appreciated.
EDIT: Flashing with the semaphore kernel with voodoo settings made it much worse. It made that colour problem MUCH MORE noticable. I mean i could literally see thousands of flawed pixels in every frame.!
Will stick with CM 10 stock kernel.
