[Q] Adobe Air causing bootloop on stock Froyo? - Nook Color General

Greetings all, I've been running 1.1 for a while with root while I waited for CM7 to get Bluetooth working. I had misplaced my nook charger and stopped watching threads due to real life, but now I've found it and had some time to get caught up on things.
I took the NC back to factory and upgraded to 1.2 without issues. Rooted using MN (using the currently latest version of MN, which is like 4.5.25 or something similar). Was able to root without issues, and started reinstalling all my apps. I'm not quite ready to get CM7 on there as I want a good backup of stock so I don't have to mess with dual booting and so that I can read using the native app rather than downloading the nook reader from the market.
Anyways, after I installed everything, I put CWM back on via rom manager, then rebooted it and immediately got bootlooped. Had to use cwm to wipe data and cache to get out of it.
So I started working my way through installing a few apps from the market at a time and eventually narrowed it down to being Adobe Air.
So after I got back in again, I started checking around in the OS and I noticed that AIR comes preinstalled (I checked the updater-script and it does not install air nor flash, but yet both are installed by default). I realized this after I saw that the option for AIR in the market is actually update instead of install, while the application list when I search for AIR shows free instead of update available.
Anyways, I'm about to see what happens after I use root uninstaller to remove it and then install it solely from the market, but I'm just curious if anyone else has encountered this? I have no problem updating gmail or maps from the market even though those are installed in system as well.
Thanks in advance
Edit: Removing AIR and flash did not cause bootloop upon reboot which is good news. No bootloop after installing AIR from market once I removed the default one.. Strange indeed. Must be an issue with checking the new one against the stock one's dalvik-cache entry. I installed a modified flash from the thunderbolt forums so I can get hulu in-browser on here, which works but the video is pretty horribly choppy, probably because I have it on Hi Def.. I'll try low def later.

I had 1.1 and then also went back to stock and upgrade to 1.2 than manual nooter 4.6.16 and was working to get my IMDB to stop force closing and getting Netflix to stop playing at highspeed. Happend to stumble upon flash 10.3 in the market and it asked for upgrade, so I did so and when to rebook NC. Well it now is stuck in a loop even after clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache AND reloading manualnooter 4.6.16. It'll load up to the oscilating color Color dev logo but then restarts loading and gets stuck every time at Nook Co (only partially loads the O). Do I need to go back to stock, AGAIN, and reload the Manual nooter 4.6.16?

Clear data, in addition to cache and dalvik.

You mean in mounts do a "format data" or do you mean clear data/restore to factory?

Force Close of com.google.process.gapps

Need some help with an error. I've seen a couple of posts about this, but no one was giving their situation/phone info to make any help effective. So, here goes.
I got a new SD card (bigger, and class 6). I used Backup (root) from the Market to save everything, partitioned my SD card, upgraded the partition to ext3, wiped my phone, re-installed Cyanogen's 4.2.13 (I use apps2SD) and the Community Hero Mix Theme (Reg Launcher and Stericsson's Lock Screen). Also reset the Radio Image, and have 2.22.19.261. Restored everything with the Backup app, then re-booted.
All apps are installed (successfully tested about 20). After Auto-Sync, I turned off syncing and ran fix_permissions, then re-booted. Gmail app's cache was cleared on a whim.
Now, whenever I go to download a Market update, I get the com.google.process.gapps Force Close. Unable to update any apps, although the whole list is there. Nandroid restore fixes everything, but I noticed my phone running MUCH faster after the wipe, so I'd like to get this figured out. Have tried the above process 3 times, but no success. And, like they say, Insanity is trying the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.
you should start fresh anyway and next time please here

After wipe prob should be gone.
Next time, please post your questions in the Questions and Answers forum.
Moved.
After wipe prob should be gone.
Um, unfortunately that's a no. The wipe seems to be causing the problem. As I said, I've re-done this whole process 3 times. Every time I come back from the wipe, I have the force close. Only nandroid gets rid of the problem. And nandroid returns the lagginess issues.
Could try another rom like dwang or superD1.2 and see if you get the same errors.. I was getting gapps forceclose and tried many times finally I tried another rom "superd" and been happy since then! Stable and greeat speed
You just need to uninstall market updates in settings --> manage applications.
By the way, I would suggest not using backup for root users, usually the work required to come back from that is the same as from a fresh wipe.

I'm very familiar with manage applications uninstalls, however, the Market Updater app does not give un-install as an option. I can Clear Data, Clear Cache, Clear defaults (these three are grayed out), or I can Force Stop, which doesn't seem to do anything. Any other ideas?
New Symptom
As a result (I'm sure) of changing SD cards when the old one had all of my apps on it, I have about 10 apps that were protected that did not transfer by the Backup process. My phone thinks I have them, the Market thinks I have them, but I can neither uninstall them (option grayed out in the Market and they are non-existant in the Manage Applications menu), nor can I update them (as the Market seems to think I already have them). The shortcuts are of course broken, and the "Open" button in the Market is also grayed out.
Any ideas?
PS-I've tried clearing the Market cache, but didn't help.

Never mind, I popped my old SD in and used Titanium Installer to take care of my apps problem.
Still looking for help on the force close. Even does it straight after a factory wipe with vanilla 1.6!
I'm betting the Market Updater is the culprit, but can't seem to find a way to get rid of it.
Thanks in advance!

Hi All!
I'm new to this forum, but I registered because I had exactly the same problem. I've updated to the latest CyanogenMod 4.2.13. Since then I had the same crash ever since, i whipped about 4 times and downgraden step by step to 4.2.12 and 4.2.11 which all worked perfectly before. But now i had the same problem.
So i went back a few steps and reinstalled the HTC image which was needed to use the google apps again. When I installed this one. Then i booted it, hey everything works! Nice, reinstall Cyanogen 4.2.13 and just whiped it again (who cares ) and tadaaa, everything works.
Hope it works for you as well!
Good luck!
i was having the same issue when i was trying to install Cyanogens 4.2.13 coming from a different rom also. i found the solution here... hxxp://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Operating-System-Software/the-process-com-process-gapps-has-stopped-unexpectedly-on-CM-s-4/td-p/288743
(don't know if i can post direct links to other sites so i just replaced the t's with x's at the beginning of the URL)
basically what you gotta do is flash cm-4.2.9.1 1st and after you sign in let it sync, then reboot and flash cm-4.2.13 over with no wipe and everything should be fine. let me know if this helps. it worked for me

Had the same problems.. started last night when I tried to use my VPN on the phone to sign in to Market.. once signed in.. google accounts asked me to sign in again..(verify account) big mistake.. as it seems that it has registered me twice on the phone somehow..
anyway.. the FC on sync came thick and fast.. was out last night.. so couldn't actually take the time to check what was going on..
today did some research..
for me.. after trying a few processes.. I have gone the route of using Titanium backup and freezing the Gmail applications.. I never used it anyway.. as used the stock HTC email program..
happy to report that the FC on sync's have now stopped..
Edits: nope bloody thing.. got a few this morning on bootup.. and it seems market is dead for me..
I have reformatted the card and wiped all cache's.. but still got problems..
hesitant to do a hard reset at the moment as using the phone in China.. So dont actually know what it will wipe out if I reset it?
Can someone chime in here for me..
so the question is.. if i do a hard reset.. will I lose the actually settings that make it hook in to the phone network?
and I suppose from this we get.. how do I pull all of these settings out of the phone to reuse them again after the reset?
Thats a HTC EVO with stock rom
few specs on the software..
Firmware : 2.1 update 1

Software number: 1.47.706.1
PRL Version : 1.71_003
PRL version: 00202
Thanks in advance..
Edit: after searching the net for the last few days for a fix.. its seems to be a Android bug.. no amount of wipes and resets put me back on track..
So in the end I went for a fresh Rom... Myn’s Warm TwoPointTwo - [RLS 5 - 01/07/2011] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471

Hanging on Install/Uninstall

Disclaimer: did several forum searches and google searches and came up empty, so if I missed the exact wording and this is covered elsewhere please don't flame me into oblivion.
For some reason my Nexus One running FRF85B is unable to install or uninstall any apk's. It just hangs at the installing... or uninstalling... respectively. Has anyone else ever seen that?
Installing has always been really darn quick. Now it just appears to be hanging.
EDIT: Adding new symptom: "Manage Applications" shows the apps installed , but their space is forever listed as "Computing...". It's like the manage applications service is just hosed.
Randy
I have seen that as well. I would have to exit (back or home) then when I got back to the applications screen again it wouldn't have to load at all.
Same here, AT&T Nexus One using FRF85B.
The weird thing is, the app(s) actually DO uninstall or install correctly, just that the Market page shows it's not, and hangs at it.
When I force stop the market, then relaunch and check my downloads, they're now reset to the correct info.
Well I'm glad it is not just me. Thinking it was a bad ROM I reinstalled (with complete wipe) Modaco's ROM, then stock Froyo, etc.
Problem went away when I just said screw it and installed CM 5.0.8.
The only problem that persists now is the server error going to the downloads tab of the market. I can't seem to lick that one even though apps download and install fine from the market.
On a side note CM5.0.8 still is snappier than Froyo. I'm salivating at the thought of CM6.
If anyone is also getting persistent errors with the market downloads tab, please chime in. I find it suspicious that I'm having this problem regardless of which ROM is installed.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
No matter what I do I still get the server error in the Android Market application when I go to the downloads tab.
I've re-flashed the Froyo Radio and tried both CM 5.0.8 and Froyo.
I don't see others complaining about this so I have to imagine there's something wrong on my end. I just don't know how to diagnose it. Does anyone have any ideas? At All?

I did see that in the CM 5.0.8 ROM, but Froyo is a complete no-go. I've reflashed the radio, and have been using Modaco's ROM because it is the only one I know of that is just a rooted update I can flash with Amon-RA's recovery, but still no luck.
This is scary.
UPDATE
I went all the way back to Stock, Unrooted 2.1 from January, and still get the server error in the downloads page of the Market app. So for giggles, I wiped, created a new gmail account, and lo and behold, everything works. I could download apps, and they showed up in the download tab as installed.
That pretty much puts an end to thinking it's an app/ROM/radio problem, I think.
I then wiped again, went through initial setup with my primary Google account and I'm back to server errors on the downloads tab.
I guess maybe it really IS a server error. Don't know what I can do about it, except gripe...but at least I can stop scratching my head over what ROM/Radio is installed.
After several days of experimenting, the fact is that on any Froyo rom, whether it's stock or rooted, google's or cyanogen's, wiped or not wiped, new gmail account or existing gmail account, what I'm seeing is that, even if I wipe, go into Android and DO NOT enter a google account, going straight to settings | Manage Applications | running applications, shows "Computing..." forever.
Now, if I do a full wipe, it doesn't know anything about my account, right? And the cache, and all that are all wiped. So, what could possibly cause the infinite "Computing..." in the apps?
Does anyone know?
It happened to me as well last night. I was installing an apk (updating over an older version), and it showed "Installing...." forever. No hardware button gave me any response and I eventually had to reboot the machine by pressing the 3 buttons (luckily this worked. I really hate the thought of pulling the battery out...). After the reboot I tried again and it installed without a problem.
I m on a stock Nexus One FRF91, never hv an issue b4 that latest system update. Looks like it is bringing more issues to me...
what 3 buttons reboot the phone?
The same thing is happening to me. When trying to install any market app, it just hangs at "installing. I have to reboot the phone to get it to stop doing it.
Every once in a while, about 1 out of 15 times, I can get an app to install correctly and quickly, but all the other times it hangs.
It started happening when going to froyo. I have tried several different froyo mods and the same thing happens on all of them. When I nandroid back to 2.1 it is fine.
It happens to me with the Rodriguezstyle mod, the Kang-O_rama mod and the evil n-one shot Noir mod.
In order to fix this issue. You MUST do the following steps:
1. Wipe the SD card.
2. Wipe ext partition (if there)
3. Delete spareparts if you have it ANYWHERE on the system
4. Reboot the system into recovery
5. Wipe all cache's
Tada! Fixed!
This fixed it for me on Kang-O-Rama.
I belive the problem is when moving ROMs and the new app2SD feature stores files on the SD. When moving ROM's, it try's to scan them but fails. Something is stuck in a loop and wont stop .
When taking out the SD card, it ALL works flawlessly (give it a go if you need to install some apps to help)

Press the trackball, volume down and the power button all at the same time.
If you have root then the app quick boot is a one click solution.
When I was or do have a stalling at the install. I clear the market data and this works for me. I also try to keep the cache clear.

[Q] Decad3nce's 1.1r2 Youtube/Market Broken?

Hey,
So to get to this point I flashed the entire device back to stock 1.01, setup the BN account, rooted with Monster, setup youtube/gmail/market and tested. Everything works fine. I then used CWM to install the update to 1.1. Everything seems to work except that the market fails to connect and youtube just closes upon opening. I tried to fix the permissions, but that didn't resolve it. I also tried installing the Vendor.apk, but just keep getting a message about an invalid cert. Any ideas?
Yes had the same issues with R2 and also the touchscreen worked very strangely.
So went to a backup and loaded R1, that worked great.
I had the same problem. This fixed it for me:
1. Restore to stock 1.0.1 (Don't go from 1.0)
2. Register with B&N
2. Use latest autonooter
3. After you sign in to Youtube as instructed and get Market working, reboot
4. After you reboot, you'll notice that Market works, but Youtube force closes (I think this is where the problem is)
5. Uninstall Youtube (Clear Data first), and then install the signed Youtube .apk
6. After Youtube is working, then you can apply the prerooted 1.1 update.
After many frustrating hours of trying to get Market and Youtube to work, this is what worked the first time for me
I never did R2 but did do R1. My market worked fine but youtube didn't.
Anyway, if you have Titanium Backup then go in there and delete the cache from Youtube. Then go back and log into Youtube like you did with the original Autonooter setup. I think this will fix both. At least it got Youtube to work on mine
And if that didn't work for some reason try removing Youtube and installing it from the apk somewhere around page 20 of the thread.

The apk or the flashable install? The only apk I found wasn't signed correctly. I tried clearing the cache, but still no go. Just closes immediately.
I would try the flashable one. I did push the apk on mine but I think I later delete it. Besides I think the apk was the exact same as the one I had on there
I really think deleting the cache from Titanium Backup is what did it for me. Of course if you don't have it then getting it without the market makes it a little harder
Also try logging in with gmail and then going to the market. I see where one person said that fixed that for him. You might try gtalk. I just remember seeing the post and didn't have the issue myself
Some more info for you
Never tried this but if you're still having problems after all the stuff above with youtube then you may try removing data\data\com.google.android.youtube\shared_prefs That's what someone on page 5 of the thread recommended. I think I would just copy it off the nook and then remove it to see if it works
And if nothing else works with the market then there's a flashable vending app on page 24.
Not to threadjack but has anyone see an issue with DropBox with r1/r2 of this sideload? It just hangs on downloading and never does, evening erroring out.

These and lots more grievances are described in my blog. Decad3nce answered to me that whatever my experience with r1 is irreproducible to him, then recognizes he used "wrong" kernel, decided to put signed_YouTube into his ROM r2 -- instead of more stable HQ YouTube I proposed a month ago. There's tons more of broken stuff both in r1 and r2, I won't quote the whole list here. Staying on 1.0.1 with fake build.prop is probably the best way to deal with 1.1.0 "upgrade".

I don't know, but the youtube app for me when I goto certain youtube videos displays an HQ logo topright at beginning. Does that not mean HQ is working?
What else for you is broken. You state tons and yet with the exception of the XDA app and LCD density (which I suspect is more due to the B&N changes than his 1.1), everything works as good or better than on 1.0.1

USB debugging doesn't work with this update. It keeps turning off which is a real pain in the butt. That on top of the XDA app being borked was enough for me to restore my old build.
USB Debugging and Market....
I found usb debugging turned itself off once connected to PC so I'm using adb over wifi for the moment. Otherwise, USB Debugging can keep itself running without problem and button savior works fine.
The newer market(vending.apk is about 2MB) doesn't work on 1.1 preroot. It worked on the first boot but after first app was downloaded/installed the market FC and would never open again. However, the old market(file size is about 1MB) came with autonooter works with 1.1 preroot. So if you've updated the market, try the older version.
Not sure about youtube, mine works but very slow when opening videos, takes forever to buffer

I had the same problem on mine. What I did was to open Titanium Backup, find Youtube under Backup / Restore, and do a Wipe Data on it. At that point Youtube started to work again and I had to log into my channel as in the original autonooter
bitnerd, that worked like a charm. Simple enough. Thanks.
No problem. If you have other things that you can't fix otherwise it may work there too. I've noticed one or two apps that behaved strangely and then were fixed by clearing the cache data

[How To] rooted B&N (1.3) with market access working .... no really.....it's working.

[How To] rooted B&N (1.3) with market access working .... no really.....it's working.
My goal - a rooted 1.3 stock device that had full market access back the way 1.2 worked w/ market prior to the update.
I'll preface this by saying I've tried nearly everything from almost every post in XDA in the last month, but I still had no market access and had to side-load all my apks. I get the feeling that there are quite a few of us that tried manulNooter and various forms of tweaks but are still w/out market access so it is for us that I write this.
I read this today and with a slight tweaking of the steps, I now have ROCK SOLID full market access on the first try.
I'll flat out say that all of the work can be chalked up to other people's time and effort, it's only the steps that worked for me I'm outlining here.
Beforehand:
Make sure you have a bootable CWM card (linky)
Make sure you have updates 4.6.18 and 4.6.16a.
Get the B&N 1.3 update here since you're going to revert your NC back to stock
START:
1) Before updating to 1.3 firmware you are required to do a complete wipe (which requires an aborted power-up [simply hold power button down during the launch process] 8 times in a row - or MUCH easier: the following command using adbWirless ).
adb shell
echo -n -e "\x08\x00\x00\x00" > /rom/devconf/BootCnt
reboot
Click to collapse
2) I waited for the whole B&N setup after the wipe and I went through the steps of registering the device to my B&N account, then I did a factory reset at the "Erase and Deregister the device". It relaunches B&N one more time. After restarting I simply shut down the device before registering it again.
3) I then plugged in my Nook via. USB cable to my PC. I copied the 1.3 update to the root folder of the NC via. the USB cable. You can obtain the 1.3 update here if you didn't earlier.
4) I unplugged the USB. After 2 min. the NC recognized the update, and it did it automatically. It went through a full boot and I then shut down the NC.
5) I put in my CMW SD card with 4.6.18 and 4.6.16a on it. I then plugged in my USB cable into my Nook again to force the launch of CMW
6) In the CMW backup menu, I launched from zip file the 4.6.18, then right afterwards, the 4.6.16a nooters.
7) I shut down the NC, removed the CMW card, and did a regular launch.
8) I chose ZEAM launcher as default
9) I went into ROM manager and fixed permissions.
10) I went into the Market, signed in, and accepted the info, and saw the full, beautiful market populate and I'm good to go.
Hopefully this is a fix that works for everybody.....
(and yes - I know there's a separate thread on how to re-root after 1.3, but it's more of a troubleshooting thread at this point and frankly there's SO much conflicting info. in there I thought it prudent to start a new thread)

2) I waited for the whole B&N setup after the wipe and I went through the steps of registering the device to my B&N account, then I did a factory reset at the "Erase and Deregister the device". It relaunches B&N one more time. After restarting I simply shut down the device before registering it again.

Thks - yes - 4.5.18 - and fwiw, while I was super-happy about the progress - I turned off the NC last night and on launch this morning I'm stuck in a boot loop at the NC logo. Looks like I'm moving to CM7 and use the LCD density method to get market access. SO disappointing.

Thanks for giving this a shot and posting your experience. I am hoping that one of the smart developer types will work on a Manualnooter (let's say 4.7.0) that will take us from stock 1.3 to root with a fully functional Market. Please, I know you are out there.
By the way, if you load CM7 with a -200 nightly or later then you will not need the LCD density fix as it has already been incorporated. Happy hunting!

Did you update flash? Thats what causes the loop, I had the same thing happen to me and had to start again from scratch. Make sure you don't update flash through the market or this will happen again.

THANK YOU SWEET JESUS
I decided to revert to stock and every time I turned my nook off, there was no return. Every time I reflashed, after I nootered I updated everything from the market. I spent 2 hours trying to find the reason as to why I kept getting bootloops.
This fixed it.

There is a fix to allow updated flash, can't remember which thread but after going through it I have updated to flash v11 without issue. I also got the (latest) market working by going into titanium backup and doing a data wipe of the market app.
Well, I followed all the given instructions, even bobzdar's method after reflashing for the 5th time. I still cannot get full market access. Even amazon market cuts me off. I've come to the conclusion that my only solution will be to move on to cm7. Honestly though, I prefer the stock rom over cm7.
All I want is cut the rope, and boat browser. Is that too much to ask for? lol

For whatever reason, the market took a while to load the first time, but now it works whenever I go into it. Try opening it up and doing a search for something and see what happens. I did a search for flash after running the flash fix to go right to the updated v11 and it took 30 seconds to a minute for the search to go through, but once it did the market has worked normally since. It was odd, but what kicked the whole thing off was doing the data wipe in titanium backup and all of a sudden it auto updated flash and a few other things (indicating market was working), which necessitated doing the flash fix through CWM etc. Now everything is working properly, hopefully it's just working slowly like it was for me and you just have to kind of kick start it by doing a search.
Thanks for the detailed steps, and to bobzdar for his tips. I too was having the "Nook Col" problem even after having done the flash trick, so I started all over and all is working...
EXCEPT, now I can't download my B&N books. I get this error: "Unable to Download: Internal error: Exception executing the command".
I did update superuser among other things, not sure if that made any difference. It won't let me install the Nook app thru the Market, either.
Any suggestions? I'd like to read my books and would prefer NOT to do this all over again LOL.

New book or one already in your library? I just downloaded a book from my library without issue but I don't know if I've tried to download a new book since getting the market working again.

Well, evry time I did those steps, the market homepage/top apps or whatever seemed to show up blank, saying "No items found" or something like that.
I just decided to go back to 1.2. I like the new market better anyway.

Already in the library. I have about 12 and can't dl any of them. Haven't tried to buy a new book yet, but I doubt that will work either.
It's frustrating because I was w/o the Nook for several days, did all this stuff and it works well other than this and limited market apps which I can live with.
I may have to go thru the whole process again and make sure I dl everything before I apply the hacks.

No Market Functionality with 1.3 & MN 4.6.16 - Please Help!

After the original 1.3 update broke the root, I re-flashed 4.6.16 and all was well, I downloaded & installed from market and everything was just fine....until recently.
I am still using my 3 installed apps without issue (overdrive, kobo & kindle), but I am unable to download new apps or updates. The download seems to happen, but I get an "!" in the notification area telling me that the app/update was not downloaded.
Last night, I used settings to clear market data, I uninstalled the market update (rolled from 3.0.27 back to 2.3.*) and re-booted, and still no luck. Then I tried a full restore from Titanium backup of all settings/app data from when it was successfully re-rooted with market working, re-booted and still nothing.
Could I flash 4.5.25 over what I have? Then re-flash 4.6.16, would that fix things? Does anyone else have this problem?
I searched the threads but no one else seems to have lost all market functionality.
Any help is greatly appreciated - I need to update some apps and I would like to add some more. Now it's just a reader and....a reader. I would hate to wipe it and set it up all over again.
Thanks!
I Gave Up....
....Restored 1.2, Flashed 4.6.16 and market is back and operational. I deleted the pre-installed flash 10.* using TB, then downloaded flash 11 from the market.
I then changed "auto" to "manual" to block the ota 1.3 update which I assume is inevitable. I followed the instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946969
All seems well -- but that last thread is kind of old, I am hopeful nonetheless.
Does anyone know if my problems are solved? I did not reboot for fear of the boot loop.
I don't care about whatever B&N 1.3 does, 1.2 with full market is much happier for me.
