Phiremod 6.3 is out! - Nook Color General

For those who may not be aware yet, Phiremod 6.3 was released yesterday:
https://phiremod.wordpress.com/nook-color/
It's based on CM 7.03 stable. I'be been running it since last night, and so far so good.

Too early to tell. Honestly, though, I was fine with battery life under 6.2.

I've had good luck with it so far and it seems pretty snappy as it's running. I do seem to be having an issue of the Nook randomly restarting and I can't tell what's causing it. Anyone else seeing this?

bleh......

Does it support iptables?

I cannot add gmail account after flashing. It keeps saying my username/password is wrong even though I am sure it's not.
Anyone ran into this problem?

It does not support anything that CM 7.0.3 already support. Phiremod is NOTHING but a CM7 theme; nothing at all special. People will be much better off using the newer nightlies (which are using the newer .32 kernel).

The latest nightlies support iptables? I thought only Dalingren's OC kernel had iptables support (that I could find). Phiremod 6.3 says it has an OC kernel, but doesn't say which one. Does the nightly have an OC kernel, or one with iptables support?

Are you using 2 step authentication for your google account? If so you might have to create a app specific password in your google account settings.

I don't get phiremod.
He does say he just adds stuff he likes, but the love/desire/understanding for it is beyond me.

Slow market
I just downloaded phiremod 6.3 and it is working very well. This my my nooks first rooted rom.
The only problem ive encountered so far, and its not really a problem, but the market is downloading apps very slowly. It took 30 mins to DL angry birds. My wifi is clocking at 10 DL speed and 3 upload speed on my HD2 so its not a slow connection.
any ideas?

Phiremod is sort of the autonooter of CM7s. It's a finished, easily flashable distribution that includes some nice tweaks and extras all in one package and you can count on pretty much everything working. It's for guys who don't want to bother with going from nightly to nightly.
At least that's how I look at it.

Gimme a break.
Look, if you area already to the point that you are comfortable flashing a rom to your nook, the hardest part is behind you. I would say if you have some issue, but have problems downloading some apps from the market, and applying a theme (lets face it, there aren't any actual tweaks in Phiremod - it is all just UI fluff and pre-installed apps), you should see some help.

What about the menu animations (When they "fly" up at you)? Are those unique to phiremod or have I missed those elsewhere in other roms?

All it is is a theme and some settings on LauncherPro. Nothing specific to a ROM.

I would agree. It's easy to install, most useful things already included (OC etc), and..it works . Not sure I undertstand the hate on it. So it isn't for everybody, some ppl like it. (Though I'm currently dealing with the loverly PBD syndrome)

I just installed phiremod 6.3 on my sdcard a few days ago and I love it..mostly for the pre-installed OC up to 1.3GHz. I had some issues with android.process.media FC's, but I just cleared the data from Media Storage under app management, and it's been fine since. What is the PBD syndrome?

"Premature Dead Battery" where some ppl are having battery charging issues, both on CM7 and at least me using Phiremod build. I had done the battery calibration process , and I was trying to drain down the battery so I could do a full uninterrupted recharge, but at 18% left it just...died. Thinking that it just ran out.
I connected to the wall charger, but it just kept doing bootloops, getting as far as the Google logo, then restarting. I was finally able to charge mine back up yesterday, but not sure what happened or what caused it. There is a thread about the battery issues here on xda, seems like the most recent nightlies have solved the issue

Weatherbug gone from Market

Anyone know what happened to weatherbug? I was re-installing some apps and cannot find Weatherbug. It was an app that I actually made use of on a day to day basis.
Sometimes apps leave the market for various reasons, either the author no longer wished to distribute the app [in that manner], or it in some way violated or was perceived to violate the google TOS. Because of this, if you are planning to wipe your phone, it is a good idea to make a backup of all apps you don't want to lose.

Found it odd that it would be removed after having an update just last month. I had done a backup using nandbackup as well as using the one that is built into Astro. I'm at work and the backups are at home, moved them off the SD to my computer. Was hoping to get it installed after updating to the newest JF build.
Maybe they're just prepping a new version compatible with the 1.5 release?
Their site doesn't seem to indicate that they've taken it offline:
http://weather.weatherbug.com/mobile/android.html
I didn't realize there was a recent update - I would've grabbed it. I'm on 1.0.498.

I love weatherbug, but its still a bit buggy especially in terms of the temperature in the notification bar.

I would think they would keep the original version for those that have not upgraded and release a 1.5 update separate. I did not have a problem running it on the Haykuro 1.5 version I installed prior to updating to the JF/LucidREM update.
ok..ok..I am not crazy then
I tried to look for it yesterday and I guess it was all in vain. I do hope if comes back. It worked ok for me on the 1.5 versions.
It worked for me on Haykuro's 1.5HR3 as well, but remember - these guys are doing testing against the official releases, and they're probably testing in a lot more depth than we are. Could be they found something, and decided to push out one app that's compatible with both 1.1 and 1.5.
Just a hunch. I'm thinking if they willingly removed Weatherbug from the market they'd have removed that page from their website as well.
They released weatherbug elite on the iphone so maybe they're getting ready for this on android. the elite is 99 cents tho
ok
I want
Weather bug....the loon misses ya!
I will pay.
I ran Weatherbug earlier today (I use it almost everyday) and the ad banner at the top was about Weatherbug Elite. I'm guessing they pulled the free app, which is beta (I believe), so that we can all pay for the Elite version. Yay!... not.
Well, I hope that means they will take off the ad banner. It was a little annoying.
Can someone post the .apk for those who don't have (and want) Weatherbug (beta)?
yes i really want this please!

It worked for me too, but as soon as I would power on the phone I would get a force close from WeatherBug (without opening the app). After that, everything runs smoothly.
So, not like it's a huge inconvenience, but maybe that will be addressed.
Weatherbug was in BETA release. I looked on the market and the BETA has been removed but there is a free version there which works just fine on JFv1.5
Hell yeah.
Works nicely on jf 1.5
Never knew how much I would miss those #'s in th top left
"Sigh"
I'm good...I'm good!
I just want to spank them and tell them to never leave me again
I don't see anything that would indicate a paid-for version - just looks like regular ole' WB to me.
Is it 1.0.774 that you guys got as well?

Is autokiller really working on Kaos Froyo (or any other 2.2 ROM)

So been reading through a few comments posted around the web and seeing that some users, like me, dont think autokiller is working correctly with Kaos froyo. My phone still gets sluggish until I kill some proc like before when I had autokiller installed on a 2.1 based ROM. I have already emailed the dev asking but waiting to hear back. Wanted to know if any of you guys can confirm this or not. Thanks
I'm not quick sure if it is working or not, but I do know that after a reboot that you have to configure the settings again, even though you have autokiller set to start up on boot.

Autokiller isn't especially helpfuly anyway, but I had problems with it and Froyo + JIT.

I have it set as aggressive, I get decent battery life. If I have reception (at work, Im in a server room so battery dies very fast since no reception) I can go a full day with decent use.
As for my next release, I am planning to release it after Kaos updates his release. It wont be much as I am trying to keep it nice and clean but more blue through out it and a few new icons. Patience my child.

[ROM] Tranquility 3.0

I'm not sure why it hasn't been mentioned on XDA yet, but TQ 3.0 has been released:
I'm only putting it out here, so if someone wants to make an official thread then go ahead. I'm amazed no one has said anything here... unless I'm missing something. Looks sweet!

Thanks,
Installed and seems like this ROM is solid....no bug(s) yet....nice
Confused
This is supposed to be a blurless rom, correct? I loaded it last night, and def still has blur in it.... When I get home I'll have to see if it actually deodexed like it promised. Even Contacts are still blur...
I will say that it's FAST though..

All of the current ROMS have *some* level of Blur. Since we cannot bypass the Moto Kernel, there are some levels of base code that just have to be there.
Tranquility, Apex, zapX, and Rubix 0.5 were all built on the 2.3.15 release and then removed as much of the blur components as they could and still have it function.
Fission & Rubix 1.0 built from a base that came out of the Droid2 SDK which appears to be very stock Android and therefore, they are a little more 'blur-less' than others. Which is both good and bad. Time is showing that some of the blur components have some nice functionality that people are missing when they go completely blur-less.

This is absolutely true and was the same for the D1 except it wasn't Blur, but you can't build AOSP for D1 either without using the extract-files.sh to pull all of the proprietary components that make the phone work.
It's a basic truth about phone firmware.

From what I read you may want to do a sbf back to stock 2.2 then install this.
I am seriously considering installing this to test out but want a little more feedback from users as to any possible issues (mail/pop3 etc..)

So far, I've had like maybe one or two glitches.... sometimes after a reboot the boot screen gets left on the lock screen, so you can still unlock your phone, but you have to guess where the sliders are.
another is that the calendar widget doesn't work.
Other then those two, the rom is FAST, stable, and battery life has been great. Worth it to me in my opinion... It's not an ASOP "experience" though... it's more like a hybrid.
Like it so far though, it's my daily driver.
Edit: Also, this applies to STOCK people (running the 2.2 OTA).... I was odexed, completely stock..... installed this rom with ease: no wiping, no formatting, nada. AND it deodexed my phone for me.... LOVE THAT.

I have bought tasker aS well (the stock rom doesn't let the os sleep when gps is enabled so I bought it to turn it on and off for all my apps)
Now I like your idea of syncing every 30 but I use google voice exclusively. And the voice app. Does that mean if I turn off my sync I won't get my messages in a timely mater?

This rom also doesn't seem to sleep when wick is on. Am I missing something? Anyway I do see how this can save a lot a battery with the screen dining and everything. I had to wipe my phone to get it to work. Last time I tried when I booted every system app was force closing. I feel like this is a little slower than rubix but way faster then stock. Could be too the drawer just doesn't feel right. Too bouncy for me to use quickly. Ill probably go to pro launcher. But if I don't want to how do I customize the 4 apps at the bottom? Its driving me nuts

Frankly, don't waste your time. UD is nothing more than CM7 ripped off (using CM7's code with little to no acknowledgment). If you want the features, just flash the latest CM7 7.1 release, and you are good to go.

Yea. in fact when said "developer" first attempted a ROM on the OG Droid, they left the CyanogenMod Boot Animation on the ROM. So some of the CM team downloaded the ROM and started digging though it. They found embedded cookies that they forgot to remove. Basically all they did was re-theme the ROM and took out the "cyanogenMod Options". I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Goodbye Nooksters!

I've had a lot of fun with my Nook, and have made all my friends envious. But the thing that dampened my enthusiasm is the poor battery life. I am running CM7 off of a micro SD card, and I swear, I have to fully charge this thing every other day ... and that's with minimal usage.
I also found the screen size kind of tiring for any lengthy forays to the Internet, and was constantly hitting the wrong links on pages because the text type is so small (yes, I did frequently zoom in when I had to).
Well, I've been sitting on the fence about buying a 10-inch Honeycomb tablet, and doing a lot of research in the meanwhile.
But today I got the push I needed when I opened up my email and received a $100-off coupon for any tablet at Staples. So, I hopped in my car and picked myself up a shiny new Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Have only played with it for a few minutes and it's a lot different than my Nook, so I've got some learning to do.
Meanwhile, my girlfriend is going to be pretty excited when she finds out I am giving her my NC. She's been bugging me for one ever since I got mine. But I may take the SD card out and let her use it stock. She's still have Internet and email access, but the battery life should be a lot better.
Thanks to everyone on these boards who have helped me with my questions.
Everyone has their own preference on screen size (7" is perfect for my needs, 10.1" would annoy the hell out of me), but if you expect better battery life with another device...well, good luck with that. =)
Rodney
1. compare the Galaxy to the NC is apple to pineapple.
2. 10" is bigger than 7" for sure but the trade off is the weight. Can't use it to read when laying out bed
3. Imaging if the NC has $100 off, B&N will burn their stockroom quick.
Anyway, enjoy your Honeycomb tablet.
Oh, btw, I personally think you g/f will jump up/down asking you to give her the Galaxy
You had a good run. Good luck! Personally, 7" is about right for me for something I commute with. Battery life has been fine but I have CM7 on the eMMC so perhaps that makes a difference.
You've probably heard it before, but if you're still using the last stable version, cm 7.0.3, update (for your gf ) to the 7.1 RC1 or Nightly 136. With deep sleep fixed, I've gotten as much as six days of light use out of my NC.
If you're using verygreen's SD image, you'll need an update for that, too, toward the bottom of his OP in that thread.
I'll never understand the point of people that put up threads saying they've decided to with another product.
Fine, the Nook didn't work out for you and you found something better for your tablet needs. But honestly why do I care? I just don't get it.

If you don't care, why did you waste your valuable time to reply? I'll never understand the point of people who do that.

You've probably heard it before, but if you're still using the last stable version, cm 7.0.3, update (for your gf ) to the 7.1 RC1 or Nightly 136. With deep sleep fixed, I've gotten as much as six days of light use out of my NC.

Thanks a lot for the helpful info, man. I will check into that. I'm sure my gf will be ecstatic!

1. compare the Galaxy to the NC is apple to pineapple.
2. 10" is bigger than 7" for sure but the trade off is the weight. Can't use it to read when laying out bed
3. Imaging if the NC has $100 off, B&N will burn their stockroom quick.
Anyway, enjoy your Honeycomb tablet.

Thank you, I hope to. Yes, I understand that no tablet is going to be all things to all people. I'm sure my gf will love the NC.

You had a good run. Good luck! Personally, 7" is about right for me for something I commute with. Battery life has been fine but I have CM7 on the eMMC so perhaps that makes a difference.

Thank you. My days with the NC are not over ... I'm sure my gf will be asking for my assistance on a regular basis.

If you'll be sticking with CM7, do her a favor and put the latest nightly on it. Dalingrin's OC kernel is included now and deep sleep has been fixed since the last stable release.
Nook's size is perfect for me. Battery life hasn't been a problem. The only thing missing for me (and I really mean the only thing, since I'm not looking for a tablet as a laptop replacement) is a means to make Skype calls. We're close with the partially functioning usb, but not there yet.

I also found the screen size kind of tiring for any lengthy forays to the Internet, and was constantly hitting the wrong links on pages because the text type is so small (yes, I did frequently zoom in when I had to)

Bumping up the resolution to 200 or 220 will fix these problems. I'd do this before giving a Nook to anyone. There is a free app in the Market called LCD Density that will do this temporarily. To change the resolution permanently is only a small modification of the build.prop file. EX File Explorer, also free in the Market, will allow you to do that. There are many threads on XDA that will tell you how.

Dalingrin's OC kernel was rolled in as of n132 - all subsequent builds have it, including n138.
FWIW, my battery life is every bit as good with the latest nightlies as stock, if not better.

Wait, why wouldn't the people who put out the various roms already account for that? MIUI 1.7.15.1 is set to 240.

you should have waited few months and spend same money for quad core ICS with higher res screen. or at least wait couple months for honeycomb dual core omap 44xx like archos g9. in any event overclock the tegra2 and you're probably going to find battery life not much better than cm7 nook color. good luck to you.

Because it's a matter of preference? I have no problem with the NC's default density.
ETA: and a lot of people like a density right around 187, which makes everything a bit bigger without screwing up the status bar, widgets, layouts etc.
