[q] my phone will not boot confirm passward - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i had miui rom and i wanted to chance it for darkys rom, i flashed the ficeto base rom and from then whenever i boot my phote tells me that i have to confirm a passward and shows me the keyboard, i have installed again and again different roms with the same result...what can i do?

Simple... ask darky or ficeto what the password is.
ive heard about some passwords being 'samfirmware' or 'samfirmware.com' but that might not be the password for you.

I'm having the same problem. I had to move back to CM7, because I can't get into any Samsung Gingerbread ROM now. I'm locked out of my own phone and I REALLY don't like it. WTF? Why is there a password on an ODIN ROM in the first place?

its stupid i know, but the biggest place to download firmware including gingerbread is www.samfirmware.com and the password for them firmwares are mentioned above.
have you tried them ?

I don't think you're seeing what I'm saying.... I flashed Ficeto's ODIN ROM from the Darkyy thread, and now I get this on bootup... I have never set a SIM password, phone password, or anything else. Also, none of the default passwords work. Also, flashing any other Gingerbread ROM, be it from ODIN or elsewhere... I get this screen no matter what. Froyo doesn't do this, and I can still use CM7.

I saw something like this the other day, sorry I dont have the thread link but it stated that you need to enter the wrong password several times. This will format your internal memory card but will give you access to your phone once more.
Like I said this is something I read and the comments stated it worked but I have not experienced this my self. Good luck

Thank you for the advise! I'll try it... what have I got to lose...lol. I'll just make a backup of my important info and let it format. I'll post back here in a bit with the results.

Password
I had the same problem, the password is the same password you had for your lock-screen. I had to use a password from like 5 rom flashes ago(its funny that it was still there after all that flashing).. Try all of your previous passwords, its one of them.
PS: even though you have have had used a pin password, it will still show the full keyboard screen so dont get confused by that.

you can also bypass this by getting it wrong a few times, but it will wipe all, and then boot

Does anyone know what may be the problem. Sory for my english
Did you flash the stock ROM and unroot?
these two threads helped me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=816587
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813295
I had the same problem and solved flashing SP-FroYo ROM, booting and then flashing again the nandroid recovery i had on the sdcard (but should work with any other 1.6 rom).
I don't know why it works anyway

Read the first red line, it's your last resort.

Google for "shipped roms". I would give you the direct link but I'm on a reaaaaaly slow connection at the moment.
ok thanks.
Confirm, u have to flash stock rom and then re-root and re-install recovery rom, than u have to flash the rom you want to use, and your gps will come back from hell, working again for you

yes you did use the wrong one, try following one
RUU_Click_HTC_WWE_1.67.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
The one you have tried has previous bootloader than most of our tattoo's and you can not go back
Bit irrelevant for you but some one actually claimed that version you tried to install had S-off Radio
it worked
thanks for help everyone

[Q] problems when trying to make a recovery image/backup current rom on CWM.

ok, i have searched and have seen 1 other thread like this with the same problem, but its in the Facinate forum, so i dont know if what was aid on there applys to the Galaxy s. but basically, when i go to back up my current rom, it comes up with a message like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
what was said in the fascinate forum is that i need to flash CWM with odin for it to work properly. is this correct? and if so, how do i go about it?
thanks and sorry for being a dumbass if this is stupidly obvious.
Oliver
P.S im using hardcore's speedmod k12h 500hz kernal if that makes any difference to anything.
EDIT, this problem is now sorted....
bump, can anyone shed some light?
Install CWM first as per instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734166
I was doing it with Rom manager before, sorry i forgot to say, i have tried the process which is mentioned on the thread you suggested and have just tried it again, still no joy and its coming up with that screen in the first post. Could it be something to do with the kernal i am using?
Oliver
Bump!!!! please, anybody got any ideas... would flashing a new kernal be of any help?
so i havemade a backup using nandroid, seen as it wasnt working through rom manager. i just need to know what files should be within it for it to have backed up my rom... or should i just trust that it should be there.
Hi, if i was you i would download titanium backup, the free version is all you need, then you can create a full backup of all your system data and apps and even app data so ur settings dont change... it will take about 5 - 10 mins. then when you have flashed a new rom or what ever it is your doing, just re-apply titanium backup and let that do all the work..
yeah, i understand that. but i mean to be able to restore my stock rom if i need to? because im preeeeety sure that titanium dosent do that? (if this sounds sarcistic it isnt meant to be)
well there is an option to back everything up into a ROM but ive never used it so i dont know, besides if your changing to a new ROM and you dont like it, just download and flash back to your current ROM it only takes two ticks via clockworkMod.
but clockwork mod isnt letting me do it (make a recovery image), if you see the top of thread...
yes but you dont need a recovery image, you can flash back to your current firmware if you dont like the new one. all the system apps ect are built in to the ROM, so all you need to back up is your apps and things, which titanium backup can do
ok, i am officially confused, as i dont see how i can do that without a recovery image to reflash...

No reason to worry, get the roto distro, fire up Odin 1.7 and flash your device.

Before I forget, make sure you remove your SIM and external SDCard, also this is for GSM devices.
Cheers and good luck ;-)

uhmm... not sure what you mean. Have a tab since 3 days, but managed twice to get the similar screen like you, once because i turned off the device bevore the flashing was done (punch me), second time when i actually removed the memory card, however, restarting Odin 1.7 with the above posted link to the roto files, I was always able to flash - ahh.. and once I even locked the bootloader, no other ROM was flashable, ROTO still worked.
I learned my lesson, and unlocked the bootloader as described in the sticky.
You might want to check if you got the correct drivers, also other users reported that they had to drain the device, then reload for 10 - 20 mins, then it worked..
Hope this helps.
You don't have a damaged slot. That is download mode when a flash didn't go correctly. Fire up odin, and reflash. Check all your settings carefully.

[Q] Bought a new Vibrant with custom ROM

Hey there - I just bought my wife a used Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (I9000M) and it came with a custom rom / cwm recovery already installed - now I'd keep it as it seems to work ok, but since it's for my Wife, I'd rather just return it to stock as she doesn't need all the custom rom enhancements I don't think.
What i'd like to do is return it to a stock Samsung ROM - or at least something really close to stock. (Something that has all the stock Samsung apps maybe?) I'm not familiar at all with the rom that's on there so it may be the best one available, I have no idea. This is my Wife's first Android phone and I'd rather not turn her off of it because of some custom roms issues.
My problem is that I'm not sure how to go back. I've read a bunch of articles on here and I just got confused since there are so many different modems and regions, or whatever. I'm not a total noob with custom roms, I've put dozens on my Dell Streak, but the Samsung seems to be a bit more complicated (to me at least). If someone could help me by listing the steps required to go back to stock or if they can recommend an optimized stock rom, something like that, I'd really appreciate it.
Here's what I have on there now...

and there you have to pick the file with UGJL2 firmware, download, doubleclick to extract it and then just follow the instructions in the thread fireburn postet.have fun
I run doc 9.9.5 myself, JS8 2.2.1 is a better ROM than JL2 2.2 and the speedmod kernel is also better than stock...but whatever.
I have all the Samsung stock apps on mine (not the Bell ones, don't really need them unless you pay a ton for mobile TV), but whoever cooked that one up might have left them off.
Thanks a lot folks! I might just look at possibly cooking another rom that has all the standard apps in it.
I did notice something that doesn't work in my current ROM, when I connect the USB cable, the option to mount the sd memory as a mass storage device isn't available. Does anyone else have that issue (or have you seen it before)? Do you think cooking a new ROM up in the kitchen would resolve that or do I have to go back to stock for that feature?
Thanks,
Steve
Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB settings
Don't know what setting it could be on now but change it to 'mass storage'

dear xda members
i own a galaxy tab for six months. the first time i got it, it was locked to Orange (Europe) under froyo 2.2, but i unlocked it to make it work here in Algeria.
sometimes it get locked by it self after a reboot! something i did notice after one month, and then it repeatedly hapen every week or so, then i decided to get stock gingerbread jq1 (i do like custom roms but i prefer using my device with stock system) because i thought it will wipe the system and let no trace of Orange crap, suddenly i was wrong, because it keep showing me Orange in the satut bar (at least one time per day) along with my provider (Djezzy), when it hapen, the phone force close all active applications and i lose signal for a while, until its gone and got back my provider signal.
please help, any suggestion is very welcome, even if it is a custom rom (a stable one)
thanks
You can try Hyperdroid. It has SIM unlock build into the boot up.
It is more stripped down compared to JQ1 or Overcome.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444240
D.O.C is a senior moderator here now, and doesn't have time developing this ROM further but it is stable.
I use his RedPill 2.0.1 kernel before.
Hope it works for you.
There are other ways to customise unlocking into your JQ1 but I have not seen the details on how to do it.

i have fond a temporary solution for my problem, so after changing many times my nv_data.bin, trying to unlock it and get rid of orange who comes every hour or tow, i decided to take another step and i made a backup of my efs before erasing it completely, getting ride of efs let android generate a new efs without any trace of my oem, the thing you lose here is you imei code, because the new efs contains a different imei!
any way, i dont have to worry about orange any more
If I helped you, please press the thanks button
