Are there any yet for the Galaxy Tab?
having batt life issues? its been a champ so far for me.
Isn't 4Ah enough ??
PS: yes, the iPad has twice the battery capacity, but its display is twice the size, it's twice the weight, and there's twice as much room inside the device to throw-in a few more mAh
Getting the tab apart for battery access is quite a trick. I dont belive its something the average user is goong to be interested in. Peraonaly, i have been on this for as much of the 72 hrs ive had it and cant complain about the batt. One bit. Even on the rare occasion it gets lower then i feel comfortable with a few minutes on a/c brings it up nicely. I would like a longer cord though.
Galaxy Tabs.....Worth every penny!!
I'm looking for one at the moment so I can get an additional 5 hours out of the tab, more if possible as I'm going on a very long haul flight at christmas. So far I've not had much luck. If anyone can recommend one I would be grateful.

My MiniGorilla external battery pack seems to be able to charge my Tab, though since it is rated at only 1A output it would likely charge quite slowly. It might be enough to keep it going for an extended plane journey though.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for the tip, ill get right on that and take a look at it!

I've found one which seems to be rated at 5v providing 2 amps via usb from zagg.com the product is the zaggsparq 2.0. I'm going to order one to test out since they ship to the uk and will let you know if its any good.

Watch the reviews on the zaggsparq... Seems like it may be apretty shoddy product. Looked awesome to me too, reviews gave me pause.

Well i've been using the Zagg today and it does work with the galaxy tab but I had to use the general usb port as the optimized port for some reason is treated like a pc usb port and you get the no charge symbol over the battery.
So far I'm impressed had it plugged in charged my tab from 70% to 100% and still the zagg is showing 3 led lights out of 4.
Takes a bit of fiddling I have to plug it in turn the display off on the tab. Leave it for a minute and when I turn the display back on it shows the charging symbol and actually starts charging while I'm using it.
I can't recommend it yet as I've only used it for a couple of hours so I'm waiting for my trip at christmas (27 hours of flying) before I make any judgements either way.

Hi all,
I am looking to buy a galaxy tab for going away with and am wanting a solar panel charger for it instead of using mains supply.
I was wondering if anyone had one or could recommend one to me?
Ive heard the powertraveller range is quite good, but i dont know which one is compatible.
Regards Jim
You will need a solar panel the size of a car roof to recharge the tab daily.
You can find them in camping supplies shops
Sent from my GT-P1000
You want the Powertraveller Solar Gorilla, the Solar Monkey is too small. Good products though. used them for years. (Solar Monkey is charging my small battery pack right now!)
Edit: I've just tweeted them to make sure the Solar Gorilla will charge the Tab.
Edit edit: They're checking...
You would need roughly a 15W panel @ 5VDC. But that's in full direct sunlight, with no charge controller or diode isolation; feeding directly into the Tab (probably not the best way to do it). A panel of that size would probably run you close to $300.
Thanks for replaying guys,
Just been looking on the powertraveller website and there £140. Didnt realise i was gonna need something so big. The gorrilla is designed for appliance 40watts and under so that should be fine.
Sun strength shouldnt be a problem caus im going to afgan in there summer.
Thanks for tweeting them. Any news?
Regards Jim
Just been on Ebay and there one for £100
I came across the following charging stand for the HTC Flyer. What do you think? Would this work with our Nook Colors?
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Base-Dock-C...ccessories&hash=item3f0be99c32#ht_2900wt_1375
Well, it might connect but won't give you the fast charging ability of the stock nook cable (which has additional connections for the 3-4 hour rapid charge). Provided that you connected to a 2 amp source, you might get a charge after 8 hours or so, and if you had a 1 amp charge, _IF_ your screen was off perhaps after another few hours (12?).

This might actually have fast charge, thank to it being for the Flyer and all. I think this stand would work, but I have no idea how far that micro usb comes up from the bottom. Hate to have you set your Nook down and break it off or something.
Well I took a chance and ordered one from some store in Hong Kong. Will be here in a few weeks and will let you know if it works out!

Well, just to give you some idea of my tests.
Stock charger + cable = 3-4 hours
Stock cable + 3rd party 2amp brick = 7-8 hours.
From that picture it looks like a universal mini usb attachment. I doubt it will give the 3-4 hour charge. It probably will be a 2amp source though.

This guy did: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13730222&postcount=32 but didn't comment on his/her experience.
That would still mean you need the proprietary cable tho, and that's what keeps on breaking.
I wish a cheap 3rd party manufacturer would pick this item up...I wonder if monoprice would consider making them, or if they are protected by patent and unable to be reproduced because of it.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just had to call for a replacement today myself.
Probably is a patent issue, but that doesn't stop many manufacturers in China from making cables for Apple products, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
EDIT: Not to go too off topic here but I found these three on eBay, all of which state fast charging. Anyone tried them?

So, I tend to charge my devices overnight, so 2 hours or 6-8 hours really doesn't usually matter to me.
I see this dock as being a neat way to use the device at my desk (twitter feed, play music, etc...) as well as a stand to charge with.
Some folks have mentioned that standard MicroSD's don't charge the nook. I have used many different charging cables for my Samsung Captivate and found that the nook charges (and never complained about the time to charge).
Also, I checked out the Flyer at my local Best Buy store. The Flyer has a proprietary connector that is a modified MicroUSB connector. However, a standard MicroUSB also works. Looking at this item, seems that the stand from HK uses standard MicroUSB.
I'm guessing that the biggest issue I could come up with is 'fit' of the nook in this stand. Specifically, do I need to modify the stand so the back of the nook sits flush against the stand and doesn't put too much stress on the USB connector (assuming there's some space between the nook and the stand).
Any update on this?

Just got it in the mail - I'd rate it an 8 out of 10.
Will post pics soon, but first impressions:
- Looks really good, blue indicator light when connected / Charging
- Hard to first figure out alignment, then it gets easy
- Fit:
- A little extra room between the back and the stand, not much wobble. Could always use tape or something to close the gap
- A little wiggle between the bottom edge and the stand. Again, some kind of black padded tape would easily resolve and look good. Not sure if I will event attempt as not a hassle yet
No idea on charging times, never been an issue for me as I'll use this:
1) At my desk (put a twitter feed or music on)
2) Overnight charging (3 hours or 6 hours don't really matter to me)
Again, pics to come soon!
Thanks keep us posted.
Does it hold the nook in landscape? I know it wont charge, but curious to know if its capable with the micro USB being there. Maybe add a pic with it in landscape as well.
Thanks

Landscape is not advised.... If you can balance the device on there, will scratch up your nook.
Sounds like a good option. Can't wait fto see those pics.
That's excellent news. Can't wait to see the pictures. If you can get an estimated charge time as well, that would be excellent.

Never ever try another phone's charger on Galaxy S, or any expensive phone as a matter of fact. SGS, has different voltage and ampere requirements.
By repair men, do you mean Samsung Service centre? Service centre is your best option if you do not want to risk your phone.

Myhm. First of all, If i'd be you, I would do two things:
1. Compare parameters on orgiginal charger and the replacement
2. Look in accessory threads, for example First in a row
You know, I'm not you, so I like to learn before I write complete bull**** somewhere.
A little bit of education to be on safer side.
Stop being a ***** man. People make mistakes like I did not see the requirements for the charger before hand. The common notion is that if the pin/jack of the charger fits into the phone, the phone will get charged. That is why I said don't be like me and plug in random chargers which fit in the usb port.

You stated previously: "Never ever try another phone's charger on Galaxy S, or any expensive phone as a matter of fact.", what is absolute bull****.
As it is shown in the thread linked by me, ANY charger with current bigger than 900mA will work properly and safely.
The issue, that you have plugged something completely irrelevant to your phone doesn't means that SGS will work ONLY with original charger. Period
And Merry Christmas.

Importantly, I can charge two Note 2's simultaneously where one is mostly on 100% brightness running Google navigation and slacker radio over bluetooth on at&t LTE network and other one charging while being used for light browsing, emails, calls etc. Dual charging is quick and comparable to stock AC charger.

Hope you sell lots of them.
I am not a seller, I am a technology enthusiast who regularly follows forum and few months ago when we both upgraded from S2 skyrocket and iphone 4S to Note 2, car charger issue started bothering me. I searched extensively for dual usb car charger with 2.1A + 2.1A output and narrowed down to two choices, one is sold by Kensington for ~$28 and other is the one I posted on eBay for ~$14. I ended up buying 2 from eBay so that I can have my both cars covered for cheap, whenever we are driving together. I wanted to contribute to forum by sharing this information long ago as I see everyday folks wondering about a good usb car charger, but I was just reluctant to register.

Yes. Could you please report back on your findings?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Had a chance to test out the Aleratec. First off, it doesn't strike me as overly well made. It's not bad, just seems thrown together. There are some gaps where the plastic fits together, and it's pretty bulky. The rectangular part looks to be about 1 inch square by 2 inches long. There's a red LED that shows when the unit is getting power, but it's just stuck inside the housing so that it's hard to see in bright daylight and the whole thing glows lopsidedly at night. On the other hand, it does seem to perform roughly as advertised. I haven't tested it with a multimeter, but here's what we did.
On a 10 minute drive across town, I had my N2 plugged in with Navigation and music on. My son had his Droid DNA plugged in playing a graphics intensive game. Both phones charged a few percent in that time.
On a 30 minute drive to the next town, I had the N2 running Navigation and music playing through the internal speaker. My Nexus 10 was charging from the other port. The Note started at 86% and finished at 91. On the return trip I left my note plugged in but left music and navigation off. It started at 80% and ended at 95%. There was another N2 plugged into the second socket, but I didn't check it's stats.
So all in all it does a decent job charging two devices while they are being used heavily. I think you'd have a hard time losing charge while it was plugged in. But it looks cheap and I'm not expecting it to last a real long time (though it might, who knows.) Still, I'll probably buy another one or two for those long drives when my son's Nexus 7 is chewing through games and battery, I have latitude and music running on the phone, and there are at least a couple other devices in the car needing to stay topped off. For the price, I won't be overly disappointed if I have to replace them in a few months. Hopefully we'll have better quality options by then.
Thanks for the update. My main concern is JUST my GN2 while using GPS, streaming music from Pandora while connected via BT to my head unit. That's probably the Most electrical draw I can come up with. If it charges during all that, I'm sold.

Well, supposedly, the two outputs are largely independent. So I'd compare the performance of just my GN2 on it. On the half hour drive I was using Spotify playing through the internal speaker. But I was playing a downloaded list, not streaming data. I did have wifi enabled (I just leave it on) but not bluetooth. Navigation was on with voice directions.
We're headed on a 800 mile trip tomorrow and I can have my son play games on it while it has nav and bluetooth on, see if he can figure a way to use more power than this can output, but I won't be able to get back to you on that til at least Monday. He can also stress it with his N7 and my N10 running simultaneous games. We'll see.

I'm not fond of the reviews on that one. Also, only one of the ports is 2A+. It sounds like the other two are a bit over 1A at best. For my purposes the extra slot isn't worth the added bulk if I only get one 2A slot. But everyone's needs differ.

After using the Aleratec for over a week, I'd say it's a keeper. It's kept up with my son's N7, and with my using the GN2 as gps and mobile hotspot at the same time with sporadic phone calls at the same time. It also charged my N10 nicely. I did have one time when my Blackberry curve (work phone, ick) reported that it couldn't charge, but disconnecting it and reconnecting fixed that.
Again, this doesn't strike me as a particularly high quality or well-engineered piece of equipment, but it does seem to do what it claims. For the price, I'll be ordering a couple more.
