will froyo decect Ad-Hoc network as wireless connection? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
i know in win7 you can set an Ad-Hoc network that will enable you to share an internet connection with other computer.
i don't have a router, if i'll use a USB wireless card as transmitter will my 2.2 Froyo phone detect such network?
thanks.

Technically yes if settings are correct.
There's also an app call connectify I came across: http://www.connectify.me

I think you need the WPA Supplicant for Ad-Hoc network ... one is in the custom ROM made with Doc Rambone RomKitchen

[Q] Mobile AP not working?

I have flashed the latest 2.2 Cognition ROM, that enables Captivate to be used a wireless router. I can turn on the Mobile AP. My laptop is able to detect the wireless network and make connections to it. However, it only connects with limited connectivity and I will not be able to access internet from my laptop. I have both open and WPA2-PSK encryption, but neither of them works.
It seems that the laptop cannot get the wireless LAN address from the cell phone. Any solutions for that? Thanks for your help.
By the way, the USB tethering works totally fine.

This had been answered in the Cognation thread, The Mobile AP is a work in progress. Please search before opening a new thread.

NC, Barnacle and ad-hoc connection

I have Barnacle on my Vibrant. When enabled, it functions as a wireless router, but only in the ad-hoc mode. I use it successfuly with my Windows 7 laptop, but I found no way on the NC to enable ad-hoc mode.
Any ideas? Are there any apps that convert a phone into a regular wireless router I could use?
Search is your friend.

Barnacle works awesome! Thanks for the heads up of this app!
Wifi Tether app supports infrastructure mode for a true wireless access point (not ad-hoc) so long as your phone's chip is capable of doing it.

The better answer is to install the MobileAP on the Vibrant (if on Eclair), or go ahead and upgrade to a ROM based on a leaked Froyo. This will create an infrastructure mode WiFi network, which the nook will then be able to connect to.

I guess you need to setup yourr win7 to act as a DHCP or put manual IP to your milestone.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App

Adhoc networking

Well I been helping my sick aunt and she doesn't have WiFi and my phone does not have service so I depend on WiFi. Well I tried to create an adhoc network and my phone sees the network but can't connect. I have heard tell that adhoc is not able to be connected too but searching around has not found an exact result. I have the CyanogenMod Mod 10.2 android 4.3.1 on my phone. I did see something about a WPA supplement fix. Is there a fix for this and if so how. Would be great to be put on the proper course. And I did search. But I didn't find a thread regarding this.

When you say you created an ad-hoc network, do you mean you are trying to have a laptop that is connected to a wired network broadcast its wi-fi so your phone can connect by wi-fi to the laptop (and thus the internet)?

Used my dlink dwa-130 USB dongle to create an adhoc network on a desktop computer. The desktop has a satellite connection. I was trying to share the connection from the desktop over the adhoc network to my phone with internet connection sharing. But my phone can't connect to the network but sees the security type and ssid.

that is normal. android phones usualy not support ad hoc points.
only if it is change in android rom. it must be change in kernel and rom.
( cyanogenmod by default made that. in older roms 2.3-4.0) for my sony xperia mini pro and galaxy s+)
ad hoc is old tipe of sharing connection over laptop wifi routuer
you can make acces point and it will work if your laptop router is 802.11b/g/n
