Q: Sharpness fix for small text on Tab? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a galaxy S phone and I am using a kernel that contains sharpness fix which gives much better text clarity. I was wondering if there are similar sharpness kernel fixes for the Tab, because small text looks rather ragged in GB?
I have played with LCD Density Changer, which improves things, but IMO something like cleartype for android is needed here!

I think you should should have posted in the Q&A section....

Right, I noticed it ended up in the wrong thread. Couldn't find an option to move it though.
Can a mod move it please?

The lack of sharpness of text is a big issue for me. It makes reading unpleasant. Gonna try to return my tab.

Found a way to force the graphic driver to show 262K color - I did - is there harm?

I found the following and did changes to the registry. It made my games smooth and very lively !(I am really impressed as I could play - albeit enjoyed - for the first time 'XTRACT')
Found a way to force the graphic driver to show 262K color as 9502 have 262K VGA LCD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416207
But I do not know is thre any harm in doing this? Or does changing BPP value really change colors to 262K? because system information still shows 65K colors but everything else, especially video and games seems to be more vivid and brightand brilliant!
hmmm, dont see much of a difference, but this slowed my device, so i restored the default 16
well last time i read wm6.1 could only handle 65k colors
but if u really want to know if it did something copy some gradient picture files test it in both settings , and there u have it
65k colors should have bad quality when looking at images like this

makes me wonder tho, gradient images are perfect on my x1 when i use them as backgrounds on the today screen, but as soon as i use the same images with the sony ericsson panel, the bad quality shows up

WM has always supported more colors. The fact that spikegotti noticed slowdown is expected:

can anybody confirm the improved image quality?
also, can you quantify the amount of slow down? is it noticeable
It works for me. Not even slow, maybe response a bit better for me. Image maybe clearer but hard to tell with my busted eyes. I like it.
not noticing much of a difference, I feel that the device has slowed down a bit.
eg. in titanium when i'm scrolling it is a bit laggier than before.
other than that, I think there's a bit of an improvement?
To those who are trying this, look at the gradient image posted above. Before making this change can you see distince changes in color or does it look smooth? How about after? Do you notice a slowdown?
No gradient image not smooth. But other images look fine. I don't know about you guys, but I'm keeping it.
actually, after a soft reset everything's fine.
speed is up to normal, and the image looks nice.
keeping it as well!
hmm if its not slowing the xperia i will give it a try also
I presume more colors = more processor intensity = lower battery life, but perhaps people can report.
Anywho, the high resolution image viewing with HTC Album 3.0 is mad clear. I like it. Thanks, +rep
Can someone try the camera? It seems to response better for me.
i dont see any difference in quality of colour or speed of device
I think some people are imagining things.
The X1 screen only supports 16bit (65K colors), so how in the world is anyone seeing a difference?
Even if the X1 screen supported 24bit color (WM already does), you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 24bit image and a 16bit one, unless you were viewing gradients.
I think there is wishful thinking going on in this thread

do you kno where you are?
this whole forum is for peole who wishfully think that their phones are better than they are and are willing to do anything and everything to make those wishes come true... i.e. flash-a-holics
I can also "Confirm" there is visually a colour dept difference when you choose 18 or 24 bit VS the default.
I will check with one of my mates x1 without this reg change tomorrow to close the seal.
Until then....
you mean I can choose 24 instead of just 18? I went from 16 to 18.. but think of the possibility o.o

[Q] Lock screen wallpaper, Density and Vibration in ICS roms :)

Hi guys,
I want to ask some questions relating to ICS roms. I'm sorry if they were asked somewhere else but searching everywhere and I couldn't find the answers I need.
1. Lock screen wallpaper: Is lock screen wallpaper in ICS roms downgrade in term of quality? I found them very blurry and bad comparing to GB
2. Vibration + sound: I saw MIDNOTE had an addon to fix this problem, with Sound toogle but after changing to Sound Vibration, I still did not get vibration working with notification for SMS.
3. LCD Density: any apps compatible with ICS to change the density out there? without editing the build.prop?
4. Battery: with all the ICS roms out there atm, how are their battery life comparing to GB roms?
Anyone know the answers?
Thanks a lot for reading and answering. Really appreciate that

1. I changed lockscreen successfully on all the current ICS releases (yes, I gave all of them a go before settling for imilka's AOSP) from Google gallery without any noticeable quality degradation.
2. can't help with that, because I never use vibration, so I've never expored it
3. don't be afraid of editing build.prop. It's a piece of cake using Rom Toolbox. Just backup your original build.prop and give it a go.
All other LCD changers are fairly unreliable (bootloops and such).
4. my battery life was pretty good with all of them, especially with AOSP. I managed to squeeze out 5+ hours of screentime yesterday (no gaming though). I think it's safe to say that battery life equals or even exceeds the GB one.
Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for your answer
1. I did that too, but the pic look very bad. Really dont know why
3. Thanks a lot. Gave it a try and successful in changing to 240 dpi
4. I will test it further. Glad to hear that

[Q] Will this cause burn in?

I have been reviewing the threads about burn in. It looks like white and blue colors seem to be the worst as well as large non moving items.
I have the always on mode active and was wondering how dim it needs to be during ambient mode to find a decent median between burn in and usability.
I found this theme and I really like it, however, cannot change the color from blue.
Attached are two photos - one ambient and one on, they both look way brighter than they really are. Do you guys think this will be a problem?
Thanks in advance
1. There are no photos attached.
2. Why did you not posted this in the burn-in thread ? It really required a new one ?
The burn in thread has turned into a debate about personal opinion regarding the use of the watch and its functions. Several have posted their watch face and asked for feedback and it is lost in the thread...
Ill just delete the thread and not reattach the photos.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Colour Banding....it hurts

So let's get to it.
I have a n7000 and it has bad colour banding everywhere.
If there is a gradient, there is colour banding.
I tried quite a few roms (cm/omni/du/slimsaber/spiritrom/some other one).
No improvement
I have also tried changing kernels (forest and raw).
No improvement.
Searching the forums and google didn't help either.
What I did manage is to set the mdnie to "movie" which then removed the colourbanding.
However everything gets this washed up colour tone which is even worse.
So my question: Is there a fix for the colour banding?
I remember that at some point in time, some cm roms on some phones (vague?) had an option in the performance menu to fix colour banding.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative (maybe an app) that does something similar.

I need to adjust gamma value. Is there any kernel/ROM with KCal enabled? Some other way?

If you want a story: by my assumptions, I have a sensitive vision (because apparently problem is too unpopular) - I prefer low light/darkness, and even on low brightness white point is already enough high for me, but dark colours are almost illegible. With some more brightness, whites become uncomfortable bright, while darks are still barely perceptible. I've faced that problem before - and it was perfectly cured with setting monitor gamma from 2.2 to ~1.2 (by color calibration on Windows and xgamma on Linux)! So I did some (desperate) research for Android, and... now I suppose that my best bet is KCal? Is there some stuff already or should I implement it myself? (And yes I've tried most of the obvious things.)
P.S.: I did that trick on PC five years ago - and I still can't believe I've been burning my eyes with that light projector for a decade and minded nothing but discomfort! I was so blind...
P.P.S.: Why this setting isn't there for user in the first place? I'm scratching my head. I mean, gamma is so undervalued! Even more, I've heard that it was possible to adjust gamma before Android 5 with a single root, but then Google decided to remove all the possibilities...
Any ideas?
Hmm... It's too quiet everytime when I ask this question. Anyway I've searched core codebase and didn't found any hardcoded gamma values. Most relevant founds were gamma_table (which I believe contains some gamme curve sequence) and color correction/LUT processing code (which is signed as mediatek+xiaomi work and dated 2019 iirc), but no input data or place where they actually used as I can tell. Maybe I just can't find/see something (it's my first such lookup ever lol and there's stateless C vs my OOP C# background), or maybe it's for these xiaomi hidden Advanced Display Settings with actual gamma slider (not working ofc, and maybe will never do), and maybe even OS itself uses it? Can't figure out with my little knowledge, but also can't belive there isn't any hardcoded gamma curve or something (assuming KCal is a core module so I think it uses core "values"), which will be enough for me. So I didn't gave up on this, but it looks like that even XDA community doesn't bothered by such lowkey problems and I must not expect any help whatsoever...
I still finding the way to adjust gamma on android too
