hi, im using the incredible S and not so long ago after that i upgraded to gingerbread it started to say the name of who is calling me.
does anyone know how to cancel this feature?
You know what, i did not even know that feature exists.
Thought that was a Nokia standard.
Are you using all stock apps or any other apps for your dialer or anything related to calls?
Again, not sure if this is an Android feature.
I have not heard any names called before or after update
just after the update, i cant remember installing anything that does that...
There isn't realy a setting for that, since it's incorporated into Sense.
You have to use another dialer app that has a setting for that.

This is a very cool app that could even be considered an accessability option, it uses the flash to alert for calls & msgs I used it with 2.1 and it even worked on some 2.2 roms also, I dunno maybe his girl won't put up with his devvin but he replied to my email saying he didn't have time to fix it but he will post the code somewhere so somebody else can pick it up... both versions were paid apps (both I bought)
If he sends me a link ill post it...
If somebody happens to fix it let me know ;-)

kinda a bump but not really
I haven't heard from the dev and didn't find anything with a quick google, I'm suprised there aren't more deaf/hearing impared people, people working in loud enviroments, etc
It also alerts you to calls from a distance even when you can't hear the ringtone.
Maybe nobody is intrested enough, it worked on a few nightlys but hasent worked for a while now, maybe its an easy fix, but for me its an almost impossible.
Doesn't the powers that oversee android want to add as many accessibility features as possible?

I am going to upgrade to Vivid from my Inspire 4G. But I just read that with ICS Voice Dialer no longer works and that is one thing on my Inspire 4g that I use the most. What I like to do is get the Vivid (only $49 from Att and it already comes with ICS) and root it to install the last version of GB that the Voice Dialer worked. I have been reading the crippled Voice Dialer thread and it seems that everybody is looking for a workaround to the problem but willing to live with the flaw just to have ICS. I don't really know the major difference between the GB and ICS but to me, it really isn't worth changing if I am going to lose the Voice Dialer. Has anyone else tried what I want to do? I have been reading the Vivid forum I can tell there is lot of difference how things are done to root this phone than my Inspire 4G. I would appreciate any input regarding this matter.
I happened to stumble upon a pretty good interim solution. It's called Voice Control. The free version is called Voice Control Test.
I have tried them all and this is the only one that comes close to working correctly without screwing up other Bluetooth devices.

I decided to go back to GB for this very same reason. ICS is nice and all, and, as a whole there are many changes and optimization's. But if you use sense, 3.5 is not that different from 3.6. Not only voice dialer does not work over bluetooth, there are also many apps that don't work or do not work correctly on 4.03.
After I went S-off on my phone I just decided to install an older version of android. I was afraid that the new Hboot would screw things up but I still tried it and everything seems to be working. I did have a little of an issue with the kernel so I flashed it twice, before and after installing the gingerbread rom.
Third Party Voice Dialer Apps
There is a extensive thread on this issue in the General section. This link takes you to page 4 where I discuss Cyberon Voice Commander. I had also tested Vlingo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562886&highlight=voice+dialer&page=4
At least one person tried to use a custom ROM with the voice dialer added back in. While there are differing opinions on what works best, I found Voice Commander with ICS to have the same functionality as the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. Look at the whole thread to see what others have to say.
See also this thread for another recommended app.

Cyberon Voice Commander made my BT functionality flakey.
However, I found Voice Control which works must better. I think the free version is called Voice Control Test.
Set the accuracy low and fast which is the 2 setting. Even at this low accuracy, it is really good.

One point we should make is that Bluetooth sets in vehicles and BT headsets can vary in their capabilities and ability to work with the Vivid (and other phones). While CVC works well for me, WillGill had more success with another product.
It may take some experimenting as WillGill and I did (and Vivid 2X also), but I believe you can find a product that will restore voice dialer capabilities without having to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Of course, Google should never have removed it, but that's another issue.
Just wanted to share my solution:

Hello guys,
I had been using Slimbeans ROM for the last few months and found it to be really good. However just recently I was trying to do a video call and found that the Slimbeans ROM hasn't got the video call feature in the dialler at all. Is this due to the stock dialler carried over from the stock ICS ROM released for the Galaxy Nexus? Would I need to change my default dialler to something else? What do you recommend I replace the default dialler with to call someone's mobile number with video feature?

What happened if the person you're calling doesn't have access to wifi to use Skype? Wouldn't the video feed become laggy and affect the voice quality as well?
Hi guys. Im one of the devs who make RCB and CM. We recently released an update that was supposed to fix issues blocking and otherwise managing calls on the newer xperia phones.
However im getting conflicting feedback. Please be so kind as to download the apps and test their blocking functionality by doing the following:
1. Add another mobile number to a blocking list
2. Call yourself from that number, write down result
3. SMS yourself from that number, write down result
Post here or find the settings item (its the same in both apps) that says "Write to us" and send logs with a description like "XDA XPERIA TEST". Be sure to say what actually happened.
We had to fix this issue using decompiled firmware so theres no guarantee. And of course theres some people saying it was fixed and some saying it wasnt. Some say that its been fixed in JB but is now broken in ICS, so mention what version of android youre running.
Call Master (completely free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
RCB (trial): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Thanks in advance!!!
I can only write the same as in call master thread, I have Xperia V, currently on JB 4.2.1, CM 10.1, both call master and rcb works for me without any problems, i do not have reflashed stock today, but yesterday call master was ok on LT25i_9.0.1.D.0.10 firmware
Can anyone else please confirm this?
Worked fine on Xperia V 9.0.1.D.0.10. Stock based ROM.
Added a number to the block list
Rang my phone from the blocked number.
Icon appeared and blocked the call successfully (there was a single hint of vibration)
Seems to work fine
Thanks, but I'm not up on the stock ROM builds.... Is that ICS or job?
Sv: Root Call Blocker/ Call Master - need testers please

How much memory should CM be using?

It all depends on what kind of settings youre using. Also, it depends if youve recently been viewing logs but its not a lot. On my phone right now with about 30 managed contacts its using 18 MB. But actual use is probably 10 or so, depending on things like the size of your logs, the pages in the app you have recently opened and so on.
Remember, every activity you dont close will be cached by android, so if you for example keep entering the app then pressing home you will be adding a little. Do it 5 times and there will be a bit more. But this is cache, not memory use.
The automatic memory manager will flush caches if it needs more memory - if it has lots, apps will keep adding to the caches forever. Its unfortunate that many people have no idea how this works, they just assume that its a problem.
Works perfectly now thanks!
It is now fixed. Perfect app (root blocker).
I actually like Call Master more, its by the same devs. More granular you know...
It works always.
Rooted JB (489) / Xperia T here: CallMaster works flawlessly
I apology my poor english.
I bought 'Call Master' last year.
Phone model : IM-T100K
When i used Gingerbread it worked perfectly.
But after upgrade to ICS 4.0.4, sms blocked well, call does not blocked at all.
Just got my HTC one, non rooted, stock firmware.
When i downloaded facebook messenger and tried to enable it to hijack sms/mms by going to the options screen, the option to enable it is missing. Funny that it works on my xperia z but not htc one.
Anyone with the same issues? Or did i get a weird set?

anyone?
I happened to find the same thing on one of my phone.
The option is here on my Galaxy Note but not on my Acer Gallant. What's weird is that I have not seen a lot a people talking about this.
SMS settings disappeared after I upgraded from Android 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. Hope they fix it soon. Reported it. If anyone knows how to fix, please tell us. Thanks.
I also have this issue and have been searching for a fix with no result. It is a direct result of an upgrade to a 4.1+ base from 4.0.x. I have tried modifying build prop values to see if facebook messenger was somehow disabling the feature based on android version but have not had any luck. What is curious is if you restore messenger from a backup made on a working ROM/device, it does enable the setting briefly and for a single use. Once the app realizes it's authentication is out of sync with Facebook main it requires you to resync and you will lose the feature again. I have found minimal forum posts about it, I believe some other devices are free from issue on 4.2.x though.
