I have been using the b&N nook app no problem but it stopped connecting and I cant read or download books. I removed the app, updated to the latest CM nightly and reinstalled the app. It connects but then shows nothing in by library. any ideas?
Wow, this seems to be more common now, I just posted the below response two threads above this one! Try this and see if it works...:
What worked for me after (a lot of headache) is simply this: on your online B&N account on the PC, move every single book to Archive, then move them back to the library. They should then show up in your NC.

Ok, so I did the Supernooter, ran the Script everything came out a-workin. I got on market and installed Google Books and it links to my account, loads the app for a second, and before any of the covers can load it leaves my nook as quickly as it came.
So 2 independent questions:
1. This happen to anyone else?
2. How do I make it not happen to me?
Thanks
Yes it is happening to me too. Interestingly before I loaded the Android Market, I had side loaded the books app. That didn't work either, the app did at least stay open but it just showed 0 google accounts.
Also my youtube app (part of the process for installing the market) no longer works either, it exhibits the same behavior as the books app (auto closes soon after opening) It did work the first time I opened it when I signed into my google account.
One of my main reasons for rooting my NC was to load the books app. It may sound dumb but I had already purchased like 4 books from Google and I like how there browser reader works so I prefer them to Barnes and Noble or Kindle for that matter. I bought the NC because of the purported compatibility with with Google Books but I am not at all impressed with that procedure and usability.
Anyway hope this can get figured out soon.
Last night after installing the market, gmail, youtube etc... I installed Google Books. It behaved just as you described.
This morning... it works. It just finished downloading Pride and Prejudice just now
Only two things I can think of between last night and this morning:
1) Possibly the Google ebook server(s) were down, causing the local reader app to crash
2) I rebooted the Nook
Regarding the Youtube app - you will need to uninstall Youtube and reinstall it. Once reinstalled it works fine.
Well I am jealous.
Still no go for me. I will try removing it again. Is yours working even after a reboot?
Yep, rebooted again and still works.
As a second test I went to Google's website, purchased a free Sherlock Holmes book and the Nook downloaded it right away. I'm on page 1!
It's a shame the Google reader doesn't read local book files though...
Good news!
Mine is now working.
After rooting and adding the market, I removed both the youtube app and the books app. Rebooted. Then loaded youtube. Rebooted made sure it worked (which it did)
Then I loaded Google Books and it worked! and has continued ever since.
Super happy.
Brand new gtablet user here. I have downloaded and installed Aldiko on the tablet with no problem. However, any book I try to download, it fails. Not much of an error message! It states Downloading book and about 30 seconds later, Download failed.
Any hints would be appreciated.
Using the standard ROM 1.0.1-3053
TIA
Jerry
I used the stock ROM for all of two minutes. The vegan mod I'm running is working quite flawlessly. My Aldiko doesn't seem to have an issue. Must be an app issue with stock ROM.
Have you considered flashing a custom ROM? Or are you trying to stay stock?
Maybe try reinstalling Aldiko or clearing its cache and data.
Hopefully a fellow stock user will have some answers, but I encourage you to check out the custom ROMs available.

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I thought I might stay stock for a week, just to make sure there is no hardware issues. I worked around it last night by downloading the books to my linux box and then mounting the gtab and coping over the books to it in the ebooks/inport directory. Once there, Aldiko was able to import with no problem.
I look forward to "rooting". Knowing in advance of the whole "software" debacle, but also, knowing about the community here, made me deceide to go ahead and get one.
I don't think I'll regret my decision!

New stock update
There is a link to a new 3116 update from viewsonic in the General Section. I can't post the link as I am too new.
Does Aldiko read books in Adobe Digital Edition format? I've tried to download books using txtr and Overdrive but keep getting errors. I'll have to try wiping data and cache with those aps and see if that resolves the issues I've been having.
From the Aldiko web site, version 2.0, which is supposed to be out soon, will support the Adobe Digital format. I don't think it does at this point.
Other than my download issue, it is a pretty neat app.
Just wanted to update. Not only am I still having an issue with Aldiko, but, I have discovered that I cannot download anything except applications from the gmarket store.
So, obviously something weird is going on. Any other stock users unable to do any downloading?
Thanks,
Jerry
Anyone able to get google books app running on NC. I have a rooted NC and am able to install app from market but when it runs it opens briefly then closes. Any experience or suggestions?

Make sure you have an SD Card in
The fix for this was bizarre and rather humorous.
I'd been using the SD out of my HTC hero to root my NC because I couldn't locate where I'd stored my older microSDs.
This of course meant I was promptly removing the card from the NC once done and resetting it back to usable fashion for my phone.
Each time I tried to install/run Google Books it would not load just like you.
Ran into another app Zedge that did same thing, and discovered it complaining about needing an sdcard inserted.
Sure enough, I put my SD back in and like a charm, Google Books and Zedge were both able to run.
Later I removed card from the NC and went back into Books. It still loaded, but gave me a popup about where to store files. I was then able to point it to store internal storage and been fine ever since.
Zedge however, WILL NOT work if there is not an external sd card inserted still.

thanks, would not have figured that out for my self.
How to even get the program?
I'm running into a different problem, which is that Google won't even let me *try* to install Google Books for Android. If I search from the marketplace there's no result, if I search from my PC it tells me the nook color isn't compatible, and if I search from the web on the nook the dowload button tells me the requested item could not be found.
(I know this is a gravedig, but the nice video said to post in a similar thread if possible, I hope I'm doing it right).
Edit: CM7 nightly (6/18) is my rooted software.
I have Google Books working just fine on my NC running the latest CM7 nightly.
I have a different question regarding Google Books... does anyone use this app as their primary ebook application? I like the idea of it syncing your last read page in their "cloud," so that I can easily pick up where I left off either on my NC, my Android phone or on their website. I'm not thrilled with either the NOOK app or the Amazon Kindle app and the Aldiko app is okay, just curious if anyone has made Google Books their primary ebook application.
Thanks.
I have no problem running Google Books. I do have a problem with the feature set. You can read books in landscape mode on an iPhone and IPad but not 2.X Android.
I decided to save a few $ since I found a google book $4 cheaper than an Amazon Kindle version. This was a mistake as it was not in epub format but was a scanned book (source 7 x 9 Paperback) in PDF format.
I noticed on the google site they do disclose that it is "Better for larger screens.". As I purchased on a third party site, I did not see that notice. However, I probably would have bought anyway as I would have assumed my nook screen was much larger than an Android phone screen. Without a workable zoom/landscape mode and word wrap, it is not readable on my Nook. I can only read the book on my laptop. I was very disappointed.
Give ezPDF a try.
Rodney
Anybody notice that the Nook is now listed as an incompatible device on https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.books&feature=search_result, and Books no longer shows up in the Market on the Nook.
Is this B&N shaking things up?

Sure, going to have to do that now for Netflix anyways, but the question is WHY is Google+B&N doing this now all of a sudden?
Is this the tip of more stuff getting shut out of NC?

Thought Google Books gives you TWO views for one book, scanned and machine (OCR). Did you check the menu to see if it gives you an alternative view?
Many times, I prefer the scanned view because it maintains the original book art and formatting vs OCR that strips and neuters everything.

i would assume it so they can continue to sell B&N only approved stuff to people not in the know
I have seen others ask this same question, but have yet to see a fix. I have bought books through computer on Kindle. When I open Kindle on the NC I can see the archived books. It lets me click on them and download them to NC. They are then in my Kindle "home" to open. I have had 2 books that actually open and let me read. The others give me an error stating "Invalid book. Please remove from device and reload" or something to that effect. I do so, and then get same error message. HELP!
No problems here.
Try clearing your data for the kindle app.

Try uninstalling then reinstalling kindle. I just bought a book and its working fine.
One thing I had to do tho, was to actually go into my acct at amazon and get it sent to the right device. I have kindle on my phone, too and i had to designate my nook as the sync recipient (listed as android 2).
I'm having a similar problem. Reinstalling and wiping the app's data doesn't seem to do anything.....
Hello all,
I've got CM7 running great on my NookColor. Even the Nook App works, and I can redownload all of my books to wherever I want without issue. Bravo!
One slight snag though: the Nook App, for some strange reason, seems to require that the Nook be on Wifi in order for some books to open. This means when I'm at work I can't read some of the books I've paid for through B&N. I tried opening these with another reader (Aldiko), but I got a username/password request to open these books, and my B&N login doesn't work.
Does anyone know a fix for this? Or, is there another app that lets you open .epub files that come from the Nook App?
Much obliged!

I don't think I've ever tried using the Nook App with WiFi off - I'll have to try that after work.
As for Aldiko, I was able to read the B&N DRM protected books by using my B&N username (in my case it was my first and last name, but I'm not sure if that's standard) and my credit card number as the password. I just needed to do this once.
I never thought to use that as my password - I'll give that a shot and post back. Thanks!
After updating to the latest nightly and reinstalling, the Nook App is working just fine.
