How hot is to hot? - Dell Streak 7

My streak is staying between 98 and 107 degrees. Is that safe? My phone never gets over 88 degrees.

I'm curious as well, I am hitting 105 degrees F all the time. A programmer friend of mine says his overclocked gaming laptop sits around 145 degrees all the time.
So I want to know as well, what IS too hot?

My MacBook Pro, when gaming, will reach temps of 165F+ with no issues. My Rev A MacBook Air hit 214F doing video encoding and kept working. CPU's can handle heat.

I guess the question now is has anyone smoked a CPU yet?

If it goes above 120f id shut it down.

My Nexus 7 overheating

Recently, twice in the same week, my Nexus 7 has been over heating to almost a burning heat. Now, every night I plug my nexus in and its usually around 30%. Then I put it under my pillow while I listen to a podcast and fall asleep. Then I wake up and usually it fine but today I got my temp gun and it read 138° F on the front glass. I looked at my battery status and it showed that it charged to about 80% and then the screen turned on and the battery was draining very fast while on the charger. I think that is when it overheated and the nexus couldn't vent air cause it was under a pillow. Would this screen turning on be a result of a bug in JB or could it be a rouge app? Or could it be that daydreamer thing that is like a screensaver.

What kernel do you use? Do you OC your CPU and GPU?
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't post those details. I am stock with android 4.2.1 with kernel 3.1.10-g22b4fcd. I am unlocked though

I looked at my battery usage history and my screen turned on around 3 in the morning and its draining the battery while its charging. So something is going rouge.

Download trinity kernel toolbox. This app will show you the cpu`s temp. The normal temp for the CPU on 1.3Ghz is about 60-75 °C...
dont keep your seven under a pillow while its charging,. thats the only way that you will get the battery temperature that hot. for a cpu temperature, 138F isnt hot. but for a battery temperature, 138F is very hot.

NEVER put these devices under a pillow while charging! You are asking for it to get fried. I did this with my phone once, and it was too hot to touch once I took it out in the morning.

OK, that solves the heat issue but how can I find what's drain the battery so fast.

Overheating

Okay, my phone easily overheats if I am charging and using facebook or browser with 3G same time. Also overheats when I am playing Pocket Legends when not charging. If I am charging my phone and Playing Pocket legends, it becomes really hot and just frozes and then reboot after i just unplug charger and leave it alone. This happens in less than 40 minutes. I have a battery app that shows battery temperature and sometimes it goes up to 78 degrees (celsius).
I use cm10 on my phone and never run over 3 apps same time because it causes overheat.
Is this normal for older phones? I have been thinking if I buy that Nexus 4 phone but that is soo expensive in Finland. I haven't overclocked or anything. Can you tell me how to fix this or do i need new phone?
Thanks

Try different kernel.
I get same problem with original kernel, cm9 and cm10 too

You can check with Bat Stat. It's a widget and work very well.
From my experience a mobile completely in idle should stay at 25/30°C, messaging and do some other light things up to 35°C and gaming 45°

There is an app in the system that monitor the temperature.
The phone will shutdown if there is an overheating.

Temperature change means that your CPU is working. That's why you use more battery. If you want to preserve your battery on a rooted phone you can use apps like "SetCPU" and set as max cpu speed 1016 MHz. This will not reduce drastically you phone speed but will help you to preserve more battery. When you want to play some game set the max value back to 1500 Mhz

Atm I was reading a book from Play Books and temp is 29. With my Note I had similar values.
The thing that is different between XZ and Note it's that XZ can't exchange hot cause it's waterproof and Note can do more effectively.
XZ has a front and back "glass" so it's more sensible about external temp.
Here in Italy summer it's coming and I'll expect about 30° CPU temp as normal

My fault, i was talking about battery temp. Cpu temp can't be monitored, but i think that is directly propotional with battery temp
Yeah is normal it is a special feature Sony build in. That's foe the winter time to keep Ur hands warm when u use the phone. To bad they do not included a turn off switch for it.

Today I wanted to test how is the battery of this phone. I had unplugged from charger at 6.30 AM and connected to PC for 10 mins during the day. Now I have 33% remain and I went on YouTube, listened songs with Spotify (offline), SMS, FB, Twitter, Viber, Play Book: a normal daily use for me.
I have .253 fw and Doom Kernel with wheatley governor and cfq scheduler. 1026 MHz max - 192 MHz min. Juice Defender Ultimate for mobile data and WiFi always active when I am at home or at work.
About 18h without charge. For me it's an exceptional battery life. (when i hade Note I used to go with 3 more battery in the bag!)

Post Your CPU Temps!

Tegra 3 is one of the hottest processors out, we all have experienced it heating up and the notorious heat lag, however how hot in Degrees C has your cpu got?
I have had around 90C whilst heavy gaming and torch..
Post your experiences of the heat
Just play shadowgun for a while and u can burn up

Woah 90c? I get paranoid and start to panic when i hit >40c.
Hey, here I have over 70 celsius on bad piggies... (A simple 2d game i think)
But not so hot to hurt my finger on the screen...

What are you people using to monitor the CPU temps? Could you also post which kernel and rom you are using, and if over/underclocked? I'm very interested in these.

How hot is too hot???

What is considered too hot for battery? My phone gets 107 after playing a certain game skyforce... Usually after 15 minutes game has a lot of detail 144 MB file... Soon as I stop playing it comes down so I know game is culprit..

OK.. So 107 isn't bad?

your battery can hit 60C, 140F, before shutdown starts, to cool off the battery. itll automatically shut down at that temp.

yup. games do use the cpu and gpu intensively, which will raise cpu temps, which will warm up the battery. itll rise even more if plugged in and playing as well

A bit of insider information, in a repair facility, devices are regularly put in a dehydration oven that reaches 150 degrees. While the device is inoperable at that temperature, no damage is caused. Also, while repairing screens, the device is sometimes heated to higher temperatures. Batteries are removed for that process but the only thing really at risk is the digitizer.
