[Q] Metamorph on hd2? - HD2 Android Themes and Apps

Is there some sort of list of available metamorph items for use on the hd2 cuz i cant find it anywhere.

It's circumstancial, really, depending upon which RADIO version you're using, as well as what ROM you use and what Kernel version. For example, for MccMBox v8 gingerbread 2.3.4 - Sense 2.1+3.0, i havent found single Morph that works for that yet (I may be doing it incorrectly for that specific ROM). however, CM7 seems to be really compatible with Metamorph and provided themes/mods. However, i have, thus far, been unable to find any morphs to mod my PURLY Sense themes yet....
However, I AM a noob... but from what I gather from links below, metamorph is somewhat new and doesnt have that well-rounded 100% compatibility. Browse/search Themes/App sections...
CM7 Themes (with some explaining in first few posts) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955177
Morphs - Theme Chooser, Lockscreen, Add-Ons, etc - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013757
Theme Chooser Themes - Old Thread - New Link in Post (VERY GOOD THREAD) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056292
... -- These threads are the most helpful threads i've been able to find as of but I've only just begun research/studying about 3 days ago. Don't get lazy and skip reading; this seems easy but is more advanced than one wants to think and you can seriously mess you're stuff up so be sure to do your research and ask any questions before you start modding your phone left and right.
Hope this was helpful and good luck!!

[HERO THEME] Original HTC Hero MCR 2.9/3.0 release by Formel-LMS

Hey,
Im just testing the original Theme Backup.
I've finally did an update theme to go back to the original theme in one step.
It's a little bit bigger, than the themes you've found here, because I've copied the original widgets, too.
Some Themes make any modifications to it, so you can roll back the widgets with this theme.
Now, I'm still testing this update. If it is ready, I'll give it in this thread to you.
Just a little time because I don't want, that you have problems with this.
This theme contains:
- Original boot sequence (without sound)
- Original theme
- Original widgets
Now, testing is over.
Everything works fine.
Click the link below to come to the topic in our Hero Forum and the link to get this theme.

Listen up
This theme could start a bit longer if you use another "services.jar" from a modded theme. Don't be afraid. This theme contains the "services.jar" with original fonts.
That is the cause to take about a few minutes later to do the first start. Thats absolutely normal!
I did a few tests and every changes an update theme did is going retracted.
Have fun to play with this!
Well done my friend, this will be very useful to poeple.
Push!
It's going under since the last "problems" with XDA Devs.
I think, it's too important to go under in this section, if somebody want to go back to the original.
Thanks for this... will be handy to leave on the SD in case anything goes wrong with other themes.
Have a bump on me
Just tried with MCR 3.0
It works fine!
Is it possible to upload else where? Rapidshare refuses to work for me
Thanks!

Buuf theme port requests

I opened this thread to take port requests for the Buuf theme found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574139
you can find more info about buuf here.
http://www.android-theme.com/
If you would like to see your rom ported please post it in this thread. I will be picking one rom to start with and then move on to others. I will pick the rom by the most posts. The posts will be tallied in a week at which point the winner will be picked. Sorry I do not have a hero phone so Hero specific roms will not be selected since i have no way to test them. hero roms that run on the G1/magic or the Mytouch/Sapphire will be considered.
exp...
rom A, B, C
Rom A = 10 posts
Rom B = 5 posts
Rom C = 3 posts
Rom A will be the first to be ported.
Rules
Do not spam your rom if you do I will ignore all posts and report you as a spammer.
do not double post if you have posted your rom once there is no need for you to post it again. You may post comments if they have something constructive to say.
keep it on topic this is about roms and the porting of buuf
Please provide a link to your rom.
Please only post active roms. that are being maintained

This was an easy port since it is based on Cyanogen mod I have a working release at the buuf theme site here. http://www.android-theme.com/ Try it and if you have any problems post to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4774584#post4774584
Note this is not the old version of Buuf this is a fully maintained new release. To use this theme you must have metamorph installed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
I am trying to use this theme but a error comes up saying theme control doesnt find file. how do i really use this?
How about porting it to the Cliq? There are only like 2 ROM's for it and they're essentially stock.

you have probably downloaded the flash version of the theme. Check to make sure you download the metamorph release.

Droid
I'm dying to get buuf on Moto Droid. I'd prefer the sholes.info ROM, but I think at this point they're all really similar.
Love to get this on Bugless Beast with Metamorph.
dude, you HAVE GOT TO hook us droid users up with that Buuf mod. i love it and pissed i cant get it for my droid. i know this is strictly an HTC forum, but please, im beggin you dude, hook us uppp!

rom: cyan 5.x (http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/nexus/update-cm-5.0.2-N1-signed.zip)
Out of curiousity, I attempted to apply your latest metamorph and as you would guess, it didn't quite work as planned No biggie as I was planning on wiping/flashing for another reason.
I would love it if your morph made its way to the n1. Any help you want/need I could provide if that would sway you to give it a try.

If you would port this for Fresh 1.1 then I would do all the testing you would wont !!! I really would love to have this theme for my Sprint Hero. I have been drooling over it since day one. I beg you man! I will put 7 days a week, 12 hours a day helping with the port
Super D For The Win
Super D would be fairly badass
Nevermind
I was able to install the CM Buuf over my Super D rom.
Cyanogen just released a 2.1 ROM for the Moto Droid. I've read some things here and there that claim themes for Cyan mods work on this Droid ROM. When I get home today, I'm going to test it out.
I know it would take a while, but could I potentially just swap out the images on the .apk's currently on the phone? (in case it doesn't work)
EDIT: Well, I was able to apply the theme, but when I rebooted the phone and it came back up nothing had changed. I started looking through some of the .apk's on the phone vs. the replacements in this theme. The file structure is completely different, so I believe that is why nothing actually changed after the theme was applied. It looks for images in a different directory (or portion of the apk) than it used to.
I'm wondering if I could take a current 2.1 theme (for Droid) and essentially just swap out the images (not touch any xml's). Then, use MM to apply the theme with the new drawings. I can read XML, but I haven't really written anything in it... I do know a bunch of programming languages, so I should be able to figure things out if something isn't sized right or whatever. I was able to pull the framework-res.apk from the system/framework dir on the phone and replace the lock buttons with Buuf's. I then applied the apk and rebooted. The images took, but they are only about 2/3 the size of the buttons. So, you can see the transparent background of the button and then the new skinned button is smaller and aligned top / left (ish). I haven't had a chance to look at any XML stuff yet and I'll probably want to look through a full MM theme to see how certain things are accomplished.
P.S. This is potentially a "hard" way of trying to port this theme to the Droid. If anyone has a better solution, please feel free to point me in the right direction!
Should I try one of the Eclair builds as opposed to the Cyanogen build? Would the file structure be correct?

First of all. I know that everyone's time is precious and valuable but so is mine! I spend HUNDREDS of hours making this theme work for everyone and trying to keep it updated and I have only recieved maybe $40 in total donations... total. So I'm practically doing this for free. So at the very least, I ask that you read ALL of the information included in this post.
If you ask me a question that is answered in this first post I will NOT reply!
In fact... you're post will probably be removed! If you cannot take five minutes to read the requirements then you should not be installing this theme, thus you should not be posting anything here regarding problems or issues pertaining to it. Clear? Good! Now to move on.
In hopes to lessen the confusion for the Community Hero Mix I thought that it would be best to start over from scratch. The previous thread for the Community Hero Mix located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5833312 will soon be has been closed.
I realize that this may confuse some of you so I ask that you bare with us during this transition. The reason we (Nabzilla1990 and myself) opted for this is because in the past in the above mentioned thread I would have to add my contributions as a new post and routinely post duplicate threads for anyone just joining. So if a thread is 158 pages long it's a bit inconvenient to ask someone to check on page 83 for my version of the Community Hero Mix. Very annoying. So this is was my idea. Posts 1 and 2 will be for Community Hero Mix Binary100100 version and posts 3 and 4 will be reserved for Nabzilla's new releases. For each new release we simply need to update the post.
This is a work in progress, we appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience and confusion that this may cause. And yes... some of you may want to change the links in your signature fairly soon. To make it easy I had taken the liberty to use TinyURL.com to make one short and sweet. http://tinyurl.com/chmtheme
Update: Nabzilla1990 went and got himself a NexusOne so I doubt that he'll be posting any more updates.

Change log:
I themed the:
ADWLauncher
Camera
CyanogenSettings
Contacts/Phone
DeskClock
Gmail
Messaging
Settings (to include menus and Power Control Widget)
and Framework obviously
I added the modified DeskClock app so that the voice command for "set alarm..." will work and the the clock is now green instead of cyan (night light clock or screensaver or whatever you want to call it)
And I left my own backup of cmparts_ui.xml on the root directory of your sdcard. What does this do? Go to Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, User Interface, Tweaks extras, Import colors from XML. This will automatically set your text in the notification bar to white after you apply and reboot. Do you already have yours set the way that you want it? Simply go here and select Export colors to XML to overwrite the settings that I put there. I did this so that I won't have to explain how to set up the white text after applying the theme.

Just FYI:
In case you are wondering, Cyanogen removed the Gallery3D app because it was causing too many problems. So don't ask me why you don't have it.
In the beta releases for Cyanogen's test builds I had added the themed SMSUnreadCount and HTCMusic. I had noticed that they had came way too close to filling up my /system memory. To prevent complications I decided to remove them and add them as an attachment. Simply install them like any other app.
IMPORTANT! To get the white text in the notifications bar you need to make your own adjustments in Spare Parts. If you don't see it in Spareparts then try this:
Navigate to Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > User Interface > Status Bar Customization
The first person to ask me why the text isn't white will get cyber punched!
Please don't ask me about anything not related to theming. In other words, if something can't be changed by swapping out a png file then it probably don't have anything to do with this theme. Okay? I just don't want to get another 20 e-mails wanting me to add Live Wallpapers or a zoom function to the camera.
If you experience issues installing the theme and are experiencing "boot loops" try installing the rom, allow it to boot up then restart the phone with the power button and flash the theme from recovery. This will help troubleshoot if it's an issue with the theme or your installation of the rom itself.
TIP! As much as I hate recommending it I suggest using adb shell to remove all unwanted ringtones, notifications and maybe even the bootanimation.zip file to free up some space in the /system directory. This will make the flashing process easier.
The ADWLauncher is now the default launcher for Cyanogen's ROMs. Which means if you are wanting stock... ask him for it.
And finally, if you are pleased with the results of this theme and wish to support it please feel free to donate a buck or two. Seriously. I put in a lot of work pushing out updates and I love doing it but I wouldn't mind some coffee or a Rockstar to help me out after my 12+ hours of work.

Ladies and Gentleman of XDA-Developers,
Nabzilla1990 originally helped get the Community Hero Mix theme going and I helped it with the growing. However I didn't get involved in the game until a bit later and I can usually turn out an update within the day of a new CM Rom release. This unfortunately meant that I had to post a new thread to release my updates. But why should we open a new thread for the Community Hero Mix when we already have one? Do we need to have a separate thread for the same theme?
So I decided to create a CHM thread that has both my version and Nabzilla's on the same page. So no more searching back and forth for the link to the themes.
I hope that you all find this a bit easier and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Thank you for your support.

what a great idea and implementation of it! Good job and good luck with your theming!
does this theme work on super d 1.9.3 or will it be available for it? just wondering
Great work, i remember this being my first reson to root my phone... and still is beautiful!
This sounds like a good idea! Having the current version posted in the first post is a much better setup (similar to ROM threads).
This may not be relevant until nabzilla updates his theme, but one thing I've never been able to figure out is the difference between the two versions. Maybe when nabzilla posts his that will become clear.

I don't think that it'll work for SuperD because Cyanogen ROMs have different framework and such. Since I don't use SuperD personally it's asking a lot to port this theme for a ROM that I don't use and couldn't test. As it is now it takes about 4 hours of my time on average to fully port and test the theme. Should I add SuperD, you would be looking at 8 to 12 hours for each release.
I would consider it if the majority of the users request it. But to really consider it you would basically need to convince me to switch to SuperD ROMs. Sorry but I'm just being honest.

There isn't much difference ever since Nabzilla and I decided to cut out the third party apps that were available in Market due to the requirement of the DangerSPL. Since then the themes are very similar since Nabzilla uses most of my framework files. He may have a different Launcher thus different wallpapers and I think that he might use some different icons in his framework such as wallpaper and such.
When I started to release my themes it was based on Nabzilla's with the exception that I changed the battery icon in the statusbar and lockscreen. I also changed the wallpapers in the Launcher and that was pretty much it. Nabzilla's computer was down and couldn't possibly release an update so I released my own and the CHM-Binary100100 version was born.

Try to remove dusted-donuts? (i had same problem with 4.2.15.1.. after removing it no more fc or lag....)
Bye
Idk
Ya I tried that too but then all I got was a black screen after boot.
Tried the new update pershoot just pushed out too and nothing...
This and call information placement are the only things keeping me from pushing my theme update...

I was using cyanogen roms for the longest and i switched to super d one day and haven't looked back at all....doubt that'll work lol but thanks for the theme and all your hard work

I had the same black screen as you described the first time that it started up with the previous lockscreen (4.2.15) but when I was doing a logcat on ddms I made sure that it wasn't "looping" and it eventually came on, it just took a while. Make sure that it's starting with logcat and just be patient. Otherwise I'll have to take a look later.

With previous versions of this lockscreen, it worked.
I've been trying to update my theme to the newest CM but the lockscreen is giving me problems. Version before new would apply in theme pack no problem but the lockscreen wouldn't show up. Just the regular window.
Now with updated version, I apply and the device boots up to a black screen.
What's going on? I don't understand...

Just wondering... why don't you just use the 4.2.15 that works instead of the 4.2.15.1 that doesn't?

I tried to use your CHM-Lockscreen and just replaced the framework with mine but when the device booted up, I had the regular lock window. Tried the updated lockscreen.zip from pershoot and that's when I got the black screens.
I tried to let it sit and do it's thing on the black screen but it restarted itself. Ya, it's weird.
When I try the latest modified fender port, It won't ever boot off my phone, this is the log output before I gave up.

Binary, a small (and hopefully easy) request: change the data ID for 3G from "3G" to "H" (like CM for the Nexus). It seems like that would be easy, but if it's a total PITA don't worry about it.

Personally I don't like the H which was one of the reasons I started doing my own. I think it's stupid for it to be showing the symbol for HSPA+ when it's only using a 3G connection. It's easy to change but unfortunately it just takes resigning the framework-res.apk file and pushing it over. I suggest using Nabzilla's framework to get it.
Speaking of Nabzilla, where's your version man?

[Release][Program] Universal Theme Porter (Beta)

I've decided to go ahead and make a tool mostly for themers to make their life of porting the endless amounts of pictures from rom to rom. Now, this doesn't mean users cant use this as well, but PLEASE make a nandroid before hand. It's in beta so don't expect it to be perfect. I have an auto updater with it as well so ill be updating it that way.
*** i had no idea there was a working theme porter on here untill after i made this. I tried i think 1.3 and it failed so i decided to make my own. I just came across the 1.0 posted last month.
WILL NOT PORT GAPPS IF ITS NOT IN THE STOCK ROM.
Im currently working on a fix for that, if you want gapps, throw them in the stock rom your self and then port it.
Notes:
This has only been tested on Motorola Droid.
Instructions:
1. Make a nandroid. I don't want to hear whining if it doesn't work and you lose everything. I'm also not responsible if this bricks your phone. Even if it does, you have recovery, then you have SBF.
2. Download, DO NOT simply just run if your using IE (Who uses IE anymore...?)
3. Select the theme as "Select Theme".
4. Select the STOCK rom you are running as "Select Stock Rom".
5. Hit port and sit back and watch.
Limitations:
Only supports Update.zip formats, for now. i may support Meta Morphs in the future.
Only moves .pngs to new rom, Meaning if the theme has custom .xmls in it, it WONT port.
Change log:
Code:
Version: 1.0:
Ability to port themes from one rom to another.
Progress bars on extracting / moving (Title of console window)
Output log on screen (Not great, will work on.)
Version 1.1:
Added Auto Updater.
Added some crash fixes.
Version 1.2:
Fixed bug where if theme has no themed /system/app's it would crash.
Version 1.5 (Initial Release):
Fixed Progress bar on extracting / moving to archive.
Implemented Suggestion/bug reporting system.
Some general bug fixes.
Added audio on port completion.
Version 1.5.1.0
Added options form.
-Change colors of output console.
-Save last used .zips (toggle)
-Play sound on port completion (toggle)
-Fade out on exit (toggle)

Hmm so it will port the default wallpaper xD
Did you heard about MetaMorph? From your description I think it does exactly the same and more and it's some kind of standard in theming world.

I've heard of people having lots of issues with metamorph over a standard update.zip, and at least in the moto droid community we use update.zip's over metamorph's especially since metamorph was buggy with Froyo for the longest time, I do not know if it still is or not.

Oops, i meant it'll only port over .pngs. sorry for the typo lol
Hey cool, haven't tried it but does it work for porting eclair/froyo themes to cupcake/donut roms ? and vice-versa ? A lot has changed since the firmwares (including some .9 being changed to .png and vice versa). Checkout the last beta i posted, it had support for that, u cud prolly use most of the schemes.
@Brut, correct this is a lot like metamorph but metamorph is firmware dependant whereas this isnt/shudnt be. For eg, title_bar in pre eclair/froyo roms was a .png and now is a .9 png. Metamorph just inserts images and hence would cause problems. This only brings over files if they match and in some cases like my script renames them to match the firmware's naming convention (eg, pre-eclair/froyo didnt have mdpi, hdpi, just plain drawable). Hope that clears the air.
Also another thing that makes these have the upperhand to metamorph is the capability to take a dump of ur phone, put the dump of a rom u want to try and BAM ur theme is ported to that rom. Whereas with metamorph, id have to go out and look for the individual morphs that helped me accomplish the look/feel of my phone.

Hey, i actually have not had a chance to look at donut/eclair themes. My first Android phone was the moto droid so ive never done anything with a donut rom. i will make sure to take a look into that though. Ill go take a look at your latest beta now and see what i can come up with. thanks
Edit: i just took a look at your script and very nice work i have to say also, i may in the future decide to add support to 1.6 and lower to 2.0 +. it'll port most of it over as is except for the .9 and everything that does get ported over wont be resized properly as it does in yours. This should port eclair to froyo fine. ive actually ported over a mdpi to hdpi just fine with this so im assuming it works fine. in anycase thanks for the heads up.

Ahh, ok, thanks for explanation.
But I don't understand, how such tool would work so it'll be flexible and reliable. I mean... it would need to guess what to do. Human could look at files and say: "Ohh, this file was moved here, so I should rename it to xxx.", but what about the computer? How it will know how to port themes to other platforms? Of course you could implement hooks for specific situations as porting between eclair and froyo. But what about custom frameworks from manufacturers? What about changes made by themers? I could add, rename, remove anything I want, so how this tool will know, what I did and how to port my changes to other systems?
Maybe I don't understand something.
Correct its definately not perfect and apks modified more than theming ie smali\xml edit will have to be left out.
Also user must select which firmware theme is and which rom is.
Still its a step up from metamorph imho. In the end the user must recognize a products limitation and react accordingly.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
help please.. i get this error....
Error: Could not find file 'C:\Users\Jason\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EX00.444\port\new\META-INF'.

Just go inside of the final folder and zip all the contents with a winzip, and make sure it zips as a zip file and not a zipx. after you're done you can use a program to sign your zip like RegawMOD Zip Signer v1.0.
The supplied zip file is not flashable for some reason - have had to manually add them to a ROM.
Going to test this out tomorrow. Any success stories?
I'm giving this a run, but I'm trying to port an hdpi theme to mdpi... will let you know the results. All in all, this is really nice work!!!
Unfortunately for me, the theme I wanted to port is giving me issues because it's a UI rather than a theme. I was trying to get DarkEdge on my Eris. I did want to say though that every thing worked beautifully and this is really an incredible resource for the android community.
From me to you on Cyanogentazz [insert latest version here] Eris
This works great now that it get that instant update! Thanks for the work!

[Q] How do you make Themes

I was interested in trying out customizing the current theme on my phone I did install the SDK but couldn't figure out how to do much with it is there a tutorials/ect that gives the basics on how to edit themes I have tried Google searches and they all lead to Docs page which is great for building the software part.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9547446&postcount=2
Has a link to different themes and theme tools. Metamorph is a great "starter" tool to understand how to do the basic mods.
But - it can and will get complicated quickly if you wish to start building your own framework-res.apk
You will need to be able to de-compile and then rebuild it so you can edit the *.xml files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882742 - APK Toolkit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3272435&postcount=1 - understanding *.xml files.
gtg465x posted this interesting write up on tweaking specific *.xml files (this was for Gingerbread mods.. but it should help) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9664604&postcount=77
Make sure your images will work with the ROM you wish to tweak. (Different version ROM's will not be compatible with each other - even for the same build sometimes!)
Well.. good luck - this should at least get you started. Unfortunately I am NOT a developer - I like to hack/tweak/mod my phone and have done some of this. So if you have questions - ask a dev
