first post and epic fail for me!
FYI, I rooted and flashed multiple droid phones to GB in the past with no problem.
I followed the wrong instructions and flashed my Galaxy Tab 7 in with the rooted kernel (i have the wifi only version)
I am unable to get into download mode or boot up. When i hold down the power and volum controls, I get the LCD backlight turned on, but nothing else.
Same thing with the power button alone. Once i release the button, the light goes off.
It doesnt look like windows or Odin is even seeing the device when connected. I think I'm boned

It does sound like it is bricked, if you are interested I can un-brick this for you send me a PM if you are interested.
well, fortunately for me, i just got this today and called up circuit city saying "uh, i think my uh...ipad type thing... galaxy something is broken" lol
put on the old "i r dumb in tech" routine and am getting a new one shipping for next day service (for free)
Appreciate he offer though, however, I do have a question.
Does this work at all for wifi only? Or is this strictly GSM?
I thought the rooting files were optional and THAT part was GSM needed
nope...you can only flash roms that are made for Wifi only models...GSM roms will not work on Wifi only models due to differing infrastructure....furthermore wifi only model has downgraded CPU as well as GPU and Bluetooth

To answer your question if you got the wifi only version, then thats it.
GSM version are T-Mobile and AT&T and also has wifi as well and
CDMA version would be Verizon and Sprint and wifi.
There are several different reasons to root:
1 - Installing a different flavor / version of Android
2 - Enabling cellular phone dialing
3 - etc, etc
Just be carefull when you root

yeah, i screwed up.
I dont mind the weaker cpu and junk as it is a gift for my brother (he is the best man at my wedding), but I wanted to root, get rid of bloatware and throw on GB (gb is rockin on my droid), then throw on launcherpro and some other things. You know, but this nice and smooth and junk.
But I killed it. Wont happen with the next one as it doesnt seem like there is any type of gm rom for the wifi only model

Ask me any questions you might have about ATT pure and i will be more than glad to answer it for you here
Im looking to buy a pure in a week and unlock it for tmobile. Would i be better off unlocking it and having to work around the ATT ROM (I did this with my pantech duo and its not fun.) or install the stock Topaz ROM from htc. and if I do the latter (the best option all acounts) will I have to install any extra drivers the pure?
I am a newbee. I am just coming over from my Touch HD T8285 and need to know how to HSPL. I have read the thread but it keeps giving me a connection error. I am pretty familiar with flashing on my polaris, hd, tilt, but I am having a hard time with the pure. Any help would be great.
Came over from a moto q, how do I change the colors of the touch flo icons and bar, I already found where to change the start bar and the lower bar but touch flo is still att blue. Do I have to make a custom rom or edit some registry settings or what?

IIRC you will only get edge on this if you jump to tmobile. If you use the ATT rom, you will probably have media net setup automatically and it might be a pita to try to setup.
Maybe I read the specs wrong on the frequencies though

You'll have to install a new theme that overwrites TF3D.
I just got my phone upgrade to HTC pure from ATT. I have bought the unlock from http://www.htc-unlocks.com/ ( Olipro ) .Everything went well for unlocking but when I restart the phone it went to dead. After HARD reboot shows as:
Security unlocked
TOPA210 32M
SPL-1.33.01 iMex
MicroP-Topaz (LED) v11
TPMFG DATA
512,555 190,897
191,208 833,208
833,899 calibrated
Can Someone here help ?
Thanks!

How do you "reset" the Pure.
My old Tilt had a hole for the stylis to reboot it.
The reset hole is in the stylus housing, a small red dot.

no your right about the frequencys. tmobiles 3g is 1700 mhz att is 1900 I think. I dont use mobile internet any way so 3g is not so necessary for me.
You are basically screwed if you thought you would get "3G" on tmob (then again, they don't have good "3g" coverage, so maybe you wouldn't notice).
Return the phone or admit your mistake.
Yea really, I don't see why ppl are buying this phone specifically desiged for the AT&T 3g Spectrum to use on TMO. But, then again TMO does have a unique choice of bands who no one likes to manufacture unless you get it from them. Atleast, Nokia makes AT&T band devices once in a blue moon.
Questions
I am not a newbie, but have some questions re my new Pure:
1 - Is there a program that can map and control all or more of the buttons using push and hold - like hbuttons?
2 - What about making the zoom area usable for special functions?
3 - is there a working TCPMP that can play all .flv files including the on2v6 codec?
I've only had mine for ~24 hours at this point. I had a Tilt before this, but I have a couple questions about the Pure:
1. The TouchFlo screens let you set the wallpaper for the home screen, but the other screens all have the Death Star logo. Is there a way to change that without flashing the ROM? I don't want to flash yet because:
a. it's too soon
b. the HSPL program didn't work.
2. Next to the USB port, there are two holes; one very tiny one above it about the size of a stylus point, and another to the right that is much larger. I'm hoping that the top hole is the microphone, and the one on the right is for a phone strap. Can anyone confirm that? I'd hope not to damage the microphone with my repeated attempts to hang a keitai strap from it.
3. Is there a way to remove the battery icon from the status bar on top? I plan to use a different one that I like better, so having the other one there is redundant.
In return for getting my questions answered, I will check back here and answer others' questions based on my experiences.

It's true. None of the 4 national CellCos (is that a word?) are compatible with one another. The ones that share frequencies don't share technologies. To exacerbate the problem further, Europe uses 2100MHz, which is different from North America. So, if you want 3G to work right, alas, you have to get a phone from your carrier.

1. I connected my phone to the Wi-Fi at my house, and launched Opera. However 90% of the time the browser just simply could not load a webpage. Anything else that require data would not work either (this includes the weather tab). Every once in a while it would load up some data and then it would stop working again. Did I get a defective phone?
2. Like everyone else has asked, is there a way to change the blueish TF3D theme with ATT logo to something else?
3. On the Internet tab on TF3D, when I click Launch web browser it automatically directs me to att.net. Is there a way to change it to some other websites?

Apparently they released the JH2 again but including a SPL fix, so people already on JH2 will need to flash back to JG8 or something, then flash forward to JH2 again to get the new SPL fix
I got JH2 the other day. Yesterday my phone was going retarded, freezing and losing signal when it never had before. Seemed ok last night and today though I haven't spent much time with it today.
GPS was totally out of whack last night, sitting still and my location was jumping all over the place. Google navigation is unusable. Checked compass in GPS essentials and it was fine but in nav it just spins around and can't get it right.
Youtube widget changed. Now shows most viewed on the main bar but video and search buttons are not functioning properly. Right now it only shows the search button. If I search or launch youtube then go back the video button will be there but neither thet nor the search button will work. Wish I had just left it alone.
did you get the update with the spl fix?
and was your 3 button mode working for you before?
if not does it work with the new update?
lol so many questions... and thanks for the replies and the update on the firmware.
Just update dude. Everyone is experiencing various issues regardless of the firmware. I run 3 to 4 times a week using endomondo and the GPS tracks my route almost flawlessly. A few hitches here and there but nothing horrible.
My 3 button combo wasn't working at all and I was already on JH2. Had to do the registry trick to get Kies to flash the new JH2 on my phone and now it works. Upgrading to the new JH2 is the best choice to make, especially if you have plans on using a few mods.
I highly recommend the battery mod available on this forum after you upgrade. The SGS stock battery indicator is horrible and inaccurate, and I rather not waste my homescreen space on a battery widget.
Ya, did the update a few days ago. Three buttons work now and my gps doesnt think im in japan anymore (ya it was that bad) anyway definitely worth the update.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
My 3 button mode worked before the update, I haven't tried it since. I haven't rooted and not sure yet if I will, will see how official 2.2 goes first.
Still losing signal though. Yesterday the girlfriend tried to call me and said she either got a busy signal (WTF) or it just went straight to voicemail.
Today I tried to make a call and had to redial two or three times because it kept losing signal. Def a problem with the phone and not anything to do with reception in my area. Only phone calls though, never lose signal when using data or market ect.
Guys, I'm a bit dense on this subject so please be kind.
I have JH2 on my Galaxy. I can't remember if I updated to this version via Kies.
So far, the 3-button recovery problem has not affected me. I haven't rooted Android (since I don't need SU rights), I haven't yet unlocked the phone (no need) and I haven't attempted any Android system updates. I guess I could be called an average user. I haven't tested the 3-button issue.
What circumstances could arise down the road, which would make it necessary for me to do a 3-button recovery? In other words, is this a problem which could affect all Galaxy owners?
Thanks.

I updated to JH2 prior to the SPL fix inclusion and found it to be better than JG9...smoother and less lag issues. Just make sure to backup everything.

I havent been able to update to JH2 from JG9 (trying to use kies but thats a prize in itself) but I have in the past gotten where I would try to call, and as the call dropped while still dialing it would tell me the radio is off. Or it would tell me im in airplane mode etc.
Now for the last 24 hrs I have yet to be able to make a call, although datta and texting works perfectly fine, every time I make a call it says my radio is off. And the same problem when someone calls, they are lucky if they get a fast busy signal.
Im talking with bell to get a replacement in store, if not I have a 'insurance' plan that'll give me a loaner etc while they ship it out.
Any update on whether your phone is still dropping into Flight mode?
Hi,
I recently updated to Froyo using the registry hack, i was on uk orange jf3 before.
Since being on it i have constantly been struggling with the 3g and the network signal, at first i thought the 3g was disconnecting when i turned the wifi on but then the network signal starting disappearing and it would show the circle symbol with the diagonal strike through it to show that it was not picking up any networks.
I read somewhere that cycling flight mode might solve the issue, but for some reason once i turn on/off flight mode it just hangs at that stage and will not change until after a restart.
I have also tried formatting both the internal and ext sd cards and i have done a factory reset twice.
Nothing has helped, it connects to 3g initially (which shows that it shouldn't be a setting problem?) and the network signal is also fine initially but then after a short amount of time or inactivity or switching on wifi the 3g won't connect and the network signal just dies.
If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it i would really appreciate it.
Having a phone that can't make or receive calls when i need it to is really f'ing me off.
P.s. I have read and searched other topics for help on this but nothing so far has helped.
Might be something like I have? But I got no reply here...

Yer i read your post, what i don't understand is that it was totally fine in 2.1 and now in 2.2 it's messed up, not sure if that is the same for you?
I think it is something to do with it being for Norwegian users not UK and that somehow affects it.
I have checked the apn and it all seems correct, do you also have the issue with flight mode not working properly?
Just found this on an internet search...

Some news on the update to Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S. Currently we are making some changes to get it working better when using Orange signal, and are therefore looking to release the update by the end of November – obviously this is a delay on our original release date but we hope it will be worth the wait!
Kind Regards

Not sure exactly what that means but it sure sounds like this might be the problem i am having.
I would be interested to know if other UK orange users have been having problems?
I would also like to know if it is possible for me to go back to to a previous version so i can actually use my phone.
I am orange uk, and have similar problem at home, but works well at office. Maybe it is due to the barrier of signal. if the signal level is lower than this barrier, only emergency call can be.
I do not know how to do but my friend advised me to update the moderm
My girlfriends D3 has gradually been getting worse with poor reception, dropping calls, not being able to make/receive calls or texts.
Data seems to work fine. This weekend it just finally stopped being able to make calls or send texts from our home.
If i drive a few miles down the road or to a higher elevation i was barely able to call *228 to update roaming.
I can still use the browser over 3G and Wifi, just no tethering, phone or text.
The phone shows 3G and a full signal, but as soon as i initiate a call it drops to 1 bar.
Another thing we noticed this morning is that when calling the phone it goes straight to voicemail.
I had tried changing the Network mode from Global to CDMA yesterday and at one point got an error message saying "No CDMA networks were found. Would you like to switch to Global Mode?"
Phone has been rebooted and battery pulled along with some other diagnostic tests that the verizon techs did over the phone yesterday.
The only thing i had done to this phone was i applied the TBH tethering hack without root over a year ago. It worked fine up until now.
The phone has the latest System version 5.7.906.XT862 and the latest Baseband N_03.18.32P.
Im thinking of reverting the TBH Tethering hack back using the instructions in this post
I spoke to Verizon tech support yesterday and they said there was some trouble in our area, but my Droid X is still able to connect so i doubt thats the issue.
Does anyone think that an OTA update from Verizon may have screwed something up due to the TBH hack being applied?
The GF is frantic about getting her phone back. I can take out insurance for 6.99 pr/month and pay $100 to get her a new phone, but if reverting the TBH hack and maybe rooting and installing a new ROM might help, im all for it.
Any thoughts? ROM advice? Was reading up about the AOKP Build 40 ROM, but wondering if all the hoop jumping will help or if the D3 has a hardware issue that has just got progressively worse.
Wont you help a poor guy keep the peace with his lady please?
I don't think it's that. It's possible that the 3G in the area is good but 1x is crap. 3G is just used for data while calls/texts are used on 1x. What is the PRL versions your phone and her phone have?

My Droid X running on VXLR V2.2.0: PRL 53018
Her Droid 3 Stock w/TBH Tethering Hack: PRL 52996
Just tried updating them both and the PRL's stayed the same.
About an hour ago i was in the middle of backing up her phone and it started ringing. I was able to answer the call and now im able to make and receive texts and calls. There must have been a tower issue. The signal still drops to 2 bars when i initiate a call, but at least its working again.
She says its been flaky for quite a while with dropping calls and texts not getting sent. Im all backed up and was thinking of rooting and trying a ROM on this. Not sure if itll help with signal issues, dropped calls or texts not being sent or received.
She was also complaining about the thing pocket dialing, and other random stuff happening like her browser launching and texts being sent etc. I saw it this morning. I picked up her phone to bring it downstairs and saw that there was a text reply box open with a bunch of jibberish typed in it. She says that sort of thing happens all the time.
Think maybe a good stable ROM might help?
After a little more research i came across Minimoto here at XDA. Minimoto Link
Seems to be the way to go if im sticking to a GB ROM. I see you contributed some to it. Would you happen to know where some step by step instructions for getting it installed on a non rooted D3 might be?
1) Root it.
2) Install Safestrap 3.05.
3) Reboot to it, create ROM-Slot 1.
4) Factory reset and wipe cache and delvik.
5) Flash the ROM.
6) Set her up with goodness.
Though if random crap is popping up, I suspect the digitizer is flaky.

Have you heard of digitizer issues with D3's before?
Any recommendations on which rooting method to use?
Do i have to remove the TBH Tether hack before rooting, installing Safestrap or Flashing the ROM?
So i take it your in agreement that this would be a good choice for a stable no frills GB ROM?
the random stuff can be from from a bad digitizer, dirt/grime on digitizer/edge or a software conflict
try cleaning screen around the edge, and/or flash rom/sbf
you need to remove bootstrap before safestrap, tbh hack should be fine
i haven't use minmo, but many have, also you could look at

Thanks sd_shadow I think ill stick with minimo most likely. Too many dam ROMS to choose from!.
Ok so from the hours of reading i did yesterday, i found a working link for motofail. It appears it is the best (or only) way to root the D3 if on 906.
From there i thought i could just install Safestrap 3.05 which i managed to track down as well.
I never installed Bootstrap, so does this even apply? Is there a factory bootstrap included with the D3?
I believe i read that minimoto has its own tethering feature included. So are we sure i dont have to revert the TBH tethering hack?
Some great links in your signature by the way. If the digitizer keeps acting up, i may try replacing it. I did clean it last night and will see if things improve.

Just install safestrap on your safe system after root don't worry about bootstrap.

No

No you do not have to undo the tether hack it is a hardwear hack not a software hack and will work on any rom no matter if the rom already has tethering in it.

SMS/MMS often times is not working (send or recieve). Powering off/on will fix it sometimes, but not always. This happens both at home and at school. On days this happens the battery drains really fast (100% - 9% in ~10hrs). I checked the SMSC using a different phone (LG shows Update/Refresh error) and it is +12063130004. This has been happening on and off, but I switched from stock Messenger app to Textra and it seemed to fix it for ~a month. Turning on SMS over IMS helps, until 3G craps out. It displays 3G in the corner and the signal is still good, but no internet will load. Also calls will not send(occasionally). Any help is appreciated. If you need more phone info to troubleshoot I can try to find it.

Phone Specs:
LG Optimus 4X HD International
T-Mobile US $30 Prepaid unlimited data/text 100 min talk
Android Version 4.0.3
Kernel version 2.6.3.4
Software Version LG-P880-V10e-OCT-16-2012 (can't figure out how to update but that's a different subject)
Signal strength is ~ -95dBm
Mobile network type UMTS:3 or HSPA:11
Ping IPAddr: Fail: IP addr not reachable
Ping Hostname(www.google.com): Pass (usually)
HTTP Client test: Fail: Code: [email protected]
Problem:
SMS/MMS often times is not working (send or recieve). Powering off/on will fix it sometimes, but not always. This happens both at home and at school. On days this happens the battery drains really fast (100% - 9% in ~10hrs). I checked the SMSC using a different phone (LG shows Update/Refresh error) and it is +12063130004. it's tough to troubleshoot that, since almost noone is on ics anymore. i personally only had it for two weeks before flashing leaked jellybean. an obvious suggestion, but do try to update to jellybean. you can always roll back to ics if you really want to. a useful guide for upgrading to jellybean can be found here:

if you need help with flashing/encounter bug, post here so we can help you with the process. good luck :good:

I can't flash. IDK why, but I always get an error message. The closest I get is 98%. Also will flashing erase all my apps/data? (It's been so long since I've tried, I gave up.)

try switching to another usb port on your computer, or try another computer completely. flashing a kdz didn't erase the data, if i recall correctly, but it would be prudent to do full factory reset after the upgrade.

Updated to 4.1.2 Euro Open v20b. Same problem still as far as I can tell. I have Espier launcher, lock, notification (stuff to make it look like iPhone). On the lock screen my carrier no longer says T-Mobile in the corner. Now sometimes it says US if that matters. Help???
where did you get your phone from?
Could be country related baseband issues

Got it off amazon. My sister got the exact same phone from the same seller with the same plan and hasn't had any issues. Could the Sim be damaged or something like that?
In my experience a worn out simcard does affect reception, so if you think it has been a while getting a new one should do no harm
But also you should try and get your hands on the us version of the software rather thatn european, that might also help

Its been under a year since I got the Sim. I just factory reset to see if an app is causing my issues cause I haven't always had this issue on in this phone. I'll try it for a week and see what happens. Also there is no US version because this phone was never offered on the US market. Hence Amazon purchase and Euro Open software
